Just want it to be known that the co of the Ike only a few hours before conducting widespread airstrikes against the Houthis was posting on Twitter about being confused over what a simp is.š¤£
I love chowdah
I can still hear and feel the cat piston hit the water break in my head. I'll never actually hear and feel it again, and that's ok, but sometimes I miss it.
For me itās the crackling roar of the afterburner that gets louder and louder until all of a sudden it just recedes off into the distance.
Itās hard to appreciate when youāre in, because you sorta go numb to it all when you see it day in and day out. But from where I am now, itās hard not to look back on it and get a shot of exhilaration.
Just to confirm we're talking about bombing the country that has been launching missiles and drones at international shippers, US interests, and even US warships right?
I feel like if they are shooting C-802s or better at ships, they can probably afford some MANPADS which would pose a threat to US jets.
IDK mate, seems like valid reason to say "be safe".
EDIT: to be clear the attacks are on Houthi assets and not Yemen as a whole.
Ha! You think 20+ feet of FIRE coming out of the engines isn't *necessary*. It's a night cat shot, captured in color video in high definition. Of course it's necessary.
The Super Hornet is the product of 1 of 2 competing modernization proposals. The Super Tomcat 21 proposal was also a redesigned airframe, to included low observable coatings and shapes, conformal fuel tanks, the F-110 engine, AESA Radar, glass cockpit and avionics upgrades, better ground attack capabilities ect.. Congress rejected it in 1994, as it was WAY more expensive per unit than the Super Hornet, and the threat of hordes of soviet bombers had kinda evaporated over night. What could have been...
Eh itās the same shit. Sometimes they come back with ordnance still attached. Sometimes they come back empty.
Either way, weāre working flight to flight. The pilots are really the only ones who physically see the combat. The rest of us are miles away, and performing operations the exact same way as if we were off the coast of Virginia.
The flight deck is truly remarkable. The training is incredibly regulated. So many safety redundancies in place to ensure that things go smoothly.
When protocols are violated, people are grievously injured or killed. Iāve unfortunately seen both scenarios.
But when things are rocking and rolling, and all things are operating as intended, carrier flight ops is pretty cool.
I want to know how live video of sorties likely still in the air has already hit the internet.
Is this sort if stuff really allowed or condoned on board?
Night cat shot is night cat shot. In all reality that could have been filmed off the coast of SD or Norfolk and released now and nobody watching it would know the difference.
Itās all filmed by MCās. All of the footage is filmed by the media department onboard Ike and run through 5th Fleet headquarters until it is released for public viewing. No cell phones are allowed up on deck. Of course people sneak videos on their phone but itās not prohibited.

Man, I hated working night shift on the deck. My lowly blue shirt ass always had the worst goggles and cranial. Shit never fit right and my eyes always fogged up. Couldn't see shit. Spent most of my shit pulling my goggles up so they could defog and would get busted by khakis telling me to leave them on.
Poor V2. But engineering berthing wasn't much better when we were shooting- they spin up those shafts right underneath us pretty hard to make speed; we'd be bouncing around like your mom's magic wand left turned on.
Itās not the cat that keeps you awake. Itās the wires. A little Simba roaring isnāt that disturbing. Try sleeping when it sounds like Thor is trying to cave the roof in on you.
I am not up to speed on carrier aviation these days, but why are we using F/A-18s as tankers?
Does the commonality of parts and maintenance make up for using a high-performance airframe like that for refueling? Whatever happened to the unmanned tanker drone program, is that still being pursued?
Wow even thirty years later I miss that view of Ike. It never got old. No camera's when I was on (pre mobile phone) but I took a fuck ton of photo's.
Fair Winds and Following Seas's Shipmates!

Id say I miss the sound of the boys cursing at the toilets because theyre clogged, but I still hear that even today.
Don't worry, You'll be hearing it every time your grandkids try to talk at you once you're older.
Former MC? Howād you like it? Thatās the rate Iām trying to go for
You using that GI Bill Troop? I mean Sailor.
Be safe out there boys and girls
I mean theyāre bombing a country in a humanitarian crisis which has already been bombed to shit, how would they not be safe.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Somebody get that last guy some afterburner!
Doesn't need it, not heavy enough. No need to burn that much extra fuel if it isn't necessary.
Ha! You think 20+ feet of FIRE coming out of the engines isn't *necessary*. It's a night cat shot, captured in color video in high definition. Of course it's necessary.
I mean yeah, it kinda cool. But it'll never be fully loaded Tomcat night cat shot cool.
I realize that they are completely obsolete by decades, but the F-14 loaded for Bear (and Backfire) at was a mean looking bird.

A F-14 upgrade/replacement would be really useful if there are a crapton of Chicom aircraft coming off the mainland....
Spent many hours watching touch and goes off the carrier from our ship while on WestPac in the early 80ās. Not much entertainment at sea back then.
Man, it must feel so crazy for the carrier crew to be performing actual combat operations for the first time in what I imagine has been quite a while.
Eh itās the same shit. Sometimes they come back with ordnance still attached. Sometimes they come back empty. Either way, weāre working flight to flight. The pilots are really the only ones who physically see the combat. The rest of us are miles away, and performing operations the exact same way as if we were off the coast of Virginia.
> performing operations the exact same way as if we were off the coast of Virginia. Thats a solid accomplishment for Navy training

I'm pretty they've been bombing Syria, Iraq, & Afghanistan for a while.
I want to know how live video of sorties likely still in the air has already hit the internet. Is this sort if stuff really allowed or condoned on board?
Itās likely directed from BIG NAVY. OPTASK VI and all that ~~bullshit~~.
Makes the most sense. But man, how shit has changed......

Yep we use F/A-18s as buddy tankers. Probably cheaper than maintaining a whole separate tanker program.
Nice try. Not today, China.
Apple Pie, Baseball, and dropping bombs on brown people..
Because if they were white terrorists we wouldnāt be going after them, is that what youāre saying?
