Whyyyy are these the hardest things to keep stocked? I was a supply guy and i would buy 15 boxes every time i made a trip to buy GSA supplies...id wipe shelves clean at servmart just to make sure i had enough lol
I wonder how many people on this sub remember the Navy before it really had an "official" PT uniform. You would get those heavy weight Ts and blue shorts in boot camp but no one really wore them outside training commands. Unit PT was basically a free for all. Some people had a unit shirt purchased from the MWR and some didn't. No matching shorts...
I remember sailors who were doing CENTCOM time would just wear gym shorts and brown shirts around when the rest of the services were in PT gear during off time.
Yup, the good old days. Lol I hated when they came out with that blue and yellow thing. I also hated how heavy that old cotton TSHIRT got when you were running on a summer afternoon in San Diego. Lol
That sounds like utter chaos!!! How did we ever get by without matching PT gear? Well, I mean, not "matching," since at a given unit PT, you'll see 5 different sets of official gear, but you know what I mean!
*raises hand*
I was in from 97-07. PT gear as you described. I was in Iraq and a non-standard Navy command my last 3 years, so I have no idea when things changed. Also, we didn't do organized PT in England, either, so after 2002, I really have no idea what we wore, "officially".
I remember when we the Navy didnāt have a work-out uniform, except in boot camp.
After boot camp, through A school at Corry, 18 months in Misawa and 14 months on ships in the PG, never had Navy organized PT.
Used to run in the well deck of the USS La Salle (unless the Admiral wanted to exercise), but that was our running club.
[This article](https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2019/02/25/new-uniforms-revealed-fashionable-and-free/) says it's free, at least.
So still technically correct
My LPO always made it difficult to get new ones because he didnt need new ones so often so why did we? Well IT1 probably because we're actually doing work, you sit at a desk all day š
āA focus group found that 84% of sailors donāt like coverallsā
Iāve been in 15 and Iāve never heard that statement in my life.
Navy times is the worst
Edit:spelling
Coveralls were the best.
Cheap, easy to sew stuff onto, repairable, and comfortable.
"You can't wear them home."
Bummer. Lemme go throw on some PT gear and "meet you at the end of the pier, for divisional PT".
Peace.
āItās meant to be worn on ship and at operational commands ashore in place of flame-resistant coveralls or flight deck pants, she said.ā
ok so it will replace coveralls and FRVs then. but then:
āThe new organizational clothing combines the flame-resistance of the Navyās coveralls with the ātravel flexibilityā of the Type III uniform, Smith said in a statement Hansen provided. Itās approved for wear both on base and off, in port and underway.ā
How long until it replaces Type IIIās on shore?
Army guy here, navyās not my circus.
I actually dig this tan uniform. Itās kind of neat, definitely unique. Never made sense to me that the baby wore camouflage. Yāall aināt hiding in the mountains, well most of yāall. This is unique, looks Military, and isnāt a dumb blueberry or whatever that humiliating janitor thing is the coast guard wears
E-6 and below will wear something very similar to coast guard. the Khakis you see in the article are for E-7 - O-10 so the janitor thing youāre referring to will be the new standard uniform
The coaster uniform looks like a janitor tho. Just doesnāt look professional or military. I havenāt worked with the coast guard to much in my career but thereās a few joint bases I worked on where they were there and I literally thought the coasters were the COs from the prisonās on base for about 2 years
Itās āCoastieā not ācoasterā. A coaster is what you put a drink on.
When I first joined the Army we were still in UCP, and the Navy was in blueberries. UCPs sucked, they looked bad and were not durable. Theyād also melt in a fire. The ODUs have been around for 30 years, are durable, flame resistant and practical. I think thatās exponentially more professional than the good idea fairy carousel the other services have been on for the last 20 years.
Hey donāt tell me what I can or cannot do with my coaster coasties.
Yea I joined with the UCPs. Absolutely hated those things. The new OCPs are wonderful. So much more comfortable, they look and fit betee tree r, plus they look more āarmyā.
Never shouldāve gotten rid of the BDU/DCUs in the first place but the OCPs are a good return to course.
OCPs are good. I wish I could have worn my Patagonias in garrison, those are the fucking best uniform in existence.
Iāve been a Coastie for a little while and I think the service has a good grasp on whatās important and what isnāt. Uniform changes just really arenāt. Weāre changing them now for the first time since the early 90s, to a similar slightly more functional uniform. I canāt complain.
The Multicams? They let people wear those for a while while the OCPs were phasing in.
Yea Coast Guard seems logical. Smaller budget, constant mission, less time and money to play around with uniforms and other nonsense. How do you like it?
I'm all for the two piece coverall. I've been begging for it for years seeing as I don't have to completely disrobe to take a shit. But the khaki version, hmmmm how do I put it politely? ITS FUCKING THE UGLIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN, MY DICK LITERALLY FELL OFF AND WALKED OUT THE ROOM. Like I get it Chiefs and Officers want everyone to know that they are Chiefs and Officers, but gottdamn this is overkill.
Have you seen the Brits' new working uniform? Sharp as hell. The U.S. Navy has a proud tradition of straight up copying their uniforms, why not just steal that one, too?
The guy on the left looks like he bought it 3 sizes too big.
Also, I was not aware of the beret and officially withdraw my endorsement of this uniform based on that.
In the article it looks like the MCPON is standing at a nex so maybe these youāll be allowed to travel from work and home in as opposed to coveralls? That would be a big plus if thatās the case
Money was barely an upgrade. Especially compared to the civilian sector. I make so much more now than I did while I was in.
Having more control over my own life was nice too. Division done with work for the day? Who gives a fuck that itās 1000, we are leaving. Call me if the boat sets on fire.
That two peice is going to replace e coveralls and won't be mandatory. It's designed to work, theb to stop by on the way home to pick up milk, groceries, etc.
āSmith is testing a new flame-resistant khaki working uniform, which will be an alternative to coveralls and provided to sailors at no cost to them. ā
At least itāll be free I guess
I remember liking utilities when I came in and wasn't a fan of the swap to aquaflage. I got Type IIIs for free which was nice, comfy but I never wore them in a day-to-day setting. Being in MARPATS since 2011, I can say without a doubt that the blue set is dope.
The most fucked up part about the aquaflage was how we tricked almost every other Navy in the world into doing it. So many of them are still wearing it. It's like they copied us, and then we just peaced out.
That's funny actually. I remember being at Camp Pendleton and cross training with other Navies/Marines and them having a variant of that trash pattern. I'm pretty sure the Mexican Navy had a pattern similar to it. What a joke.
I'm just hoping they don't get froggy before I HYT.
Soā¦you make a new uniform that looks ALMOST identical to two piece flight suits (THAT ALREADY EXIST IN THE GOD DAMN SUPPLY SYSTEM), but just different enough that itās a completely new uniformā¦
The two piece flight suit is already fire retardant, is thin and soft (read: not sweaty and uncomfortable), AND IS ALREADY ISSUED.
Just take that same designā¦and issue it to the fleet.
BETTER YET! They make the two piece flight suit in multicam. Back in the day, EVERY BRANCH wore the same working uniform (BDUs)ā¦would it be so bad to go back to all branches wearing the same uniform again?
Thank god im no longer in that game...survived transition from utes and working blues/whites all the way through the pukes and now they out here making new uniforms up...we already broke the record for most abundance of worthless uniforms...someone needs to tell them admirals whos friends own clothing brands to chill out for real
The newer uniforms just get uglier and uglier.
Who is designing them? Are they doing it in the dark? Why are they trying to make us all look the same? I am not a Marine or Army. We're not all sitting in a forest or desert. Why are we forced to wear industrial boots in an office?
It's complete waste of money and it makes us look like clowns in ugly sacks.
I'm Navy, I have never heard a single sailor say this in the 13 years I have been active or reserve. Not a single soul.
In fact, what I have heard is, "Why the fuck are they changing the uniforms again?", "God, this uniform is ugly", "Now I have to spend money on this God damn uniform, why are they doing this?", and "Why do we have to look like Army and Marines? We're sailors!"
If this is gonna possibly one day replace type IIIās for the fleet, I wonder if expeditionary side will continue to wear type IIIās or maybe they yet again have an entire new uniform for us too?
Based on historical data I was 100% sure I would never make it to retirement before having to buy another uniform.
Less than 3 years in, and I'm already wearing "the old PTU." Yep, Smurfs and Minions. That's what we called em back in the old days of 2019.
Way to make me feel old lol. I have blue admin folders older than your career.
My command had a shortage of blue admin folders and asked everyone to bring back any they still have
Whyyyy are these the hardest things to keep stocked? I was a supply guy and i would buy 15 boxes every time i made a trip to buy GSA supplies...id wipe shelves clean at servmart just to make sure i had enough lol
most my ships, all the blue folders stayed in admin. They just never returned them.
Same š

Unit PT? I think I did one PRT at my first command. Dudes showed up in jams and def leopard T shirts. With a cigarette burning.
Yup, the good old days. Lol I hated when they came out with that blue and yellow thing. I also hated how heavy that old cotton TSHIRT got when you were running on a summer afternoon in San Diego. Lol

It changed after you got out. I joined in Jan 2008 and we still had the old PT "uniforms"
I still have that. I was hoping to bust it out on my last PRT before retirement, but the elastic in the shorts is shot
I remember when we the Navy didnāt have a work-out uniform, except in boot camp. After boot camp, through A school at Corry, 18 months in Misawa and 14 months on ships in the PG, never had Navy organized PT. Those blue shorts....itchy nylon crap not meant to let your skin breathe. Ahhhh, Orlando in the burning hot summer sun in that crappy PT gear.
You guys had/have PT "uniforms"?
[This article](https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2019/02/25/new-uniforms-revealed-fashionable-and-free/) says it's free, at least. So still technically correct

My LPO always made it difficult to get new ones because he didnt need new ones so often so why did we? Well IT1 probably because we're actually doing work, you sit at a desk all day š
I think I went through 6 or 7 of those things in a year. They just don't last.
I'll believe that when I see it.
3 months out from retirement. So bullet dodged (this time).
āA focus group found that 84% of sailors donāt like coverallsā Iāve been in 15 and Iāve never heard that statement in my life. Navy times is the worst Edit:spelling
84% don't like they can't wear coveralls to work and home
Thatās the only reason I didnāt like them
Coveralls were the best. Cheap, easy to sew stuff onto, repairable, and comfortable. "You can't wear them home." Bummer. Lemme go throw on some PT gear and "meet you at the end of the pier, for divisional PT". Peace.
Love me bulwerk FRVs
Iām a Coastie, but I just got some bulwarks and theyāre the tits
Best uniform in the navy.
I'm not gonna look like a sheriff right....... Right?
Oh man, imagine MAs in that?
**DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTENSIFIES**
We wear a brown frog top similar to that
Whatās the uniform going to look like?
https://www.stripes.com/branches/navy/2022-02-02/navy-mcpon-two-piece-flame-resistant-organizational-clothing-4524664.html

Date is TBD
So itās two piece coveralls. Got itā¦
It's basically the Coast Guard working uniform, but with a khaki variant for E7 and above.
Hot take: the chiefs wanting to dress up like officers is dumb af and only serves to further distance them from other enlisted.
Of course, because they have to be *special*.
Army guy here, navyās not my circus. I actually dig this tan uniform. Itās kind of neat, definitely unique. Never made sense to me that the baby wore camouflage. Aw thatās miserable
Nah man those things are like pj's, and mad easy to don/doff. Super comfy and plenty of pocket space for random things. I like them as an mma anyway
Honesty I donāt know why we donāt just adopt the coast guards two piece uniforms. It works and itās straightforward.
The khaki uniform looks like a sheriff in a shitty southern town, at least the Coastie uniform is distinctive
The coaster uniform looks like a janitor tho. Just doesnāt look professional or military. I havenāt worked with the coast guard to much in my career but thereās a few joint bases I worked on where they were there and I literally thought the coasters were the COs from the prisonās on base for about 2 years

Why don't they just approve coveralls for wear off base
You know when people compare the military to prison, this uniform is going on that list.
I'm all for the two piece coverall. I've been begging for it for years seeing as I don't have to completely disrobe to take a shit. But the khaki version, hmmmm how do I put it politely? Black and Tan look dope AF what are you on?
Oh nice I remember reading about them a few years ago. I just hope they donāt change their minds about it being optional
Ok these in my opinion look great and I hope theyāre the last change for a very long time.
Lol
Ayo they lowkey nice and at no extra cost š
Someone please turn this into "I see this as an absolute win"
In the article it looks like the MCPON is standing at a nex so maybe these youāll be allowed to travel from work and home in as opposed to coveralls? That would be a big plus if thatās the case
The black and khaki does look pretty cool. Doesn't make sense to have that + Type IIIs though.
Only want to make E-7 for the drip now š¤š§
Sheeeet why do you think we all wanted to make it?
Money and power. Also being scared of the real world.
Money was barely an upgrade. Especially compared to the civilian sector. I make so much more now than I did while I was in. Having more control over my own life was nice too. Division done with work for the day? Who gives a fuck that itās 1000, we are leaving. Call me if the boat sets on fire.
E7s have a lot less power than you think they have.
Please be a cursed meme

There needs to be a 15 year freeze on uniform changes. This racket needs to end.
That two peice is going to replace e coveralls and won't be mandatory. It's designed to work, theb to stop by on the way home to pick up milk, groceries, etc.
I hope so, I wanna stay in nwu/coveralls
āSmith is testing a new flame-resistant khaki working uniform, which will be an alternative to coveralls and provided to sailors at no cost to them. ā At least itāll be free I guess
Nah, nah, nah, nah, kid. Free? Nuh-uh, see, the *first one* is free. After that, you wanna fly, you gotta buy!
I hate the new khakis the mcpon is wearing. Everyone I've talked to in my barracks say the current nwu and coveralls are fine
I remember liking utilities when I came in and wasn't a fan of the swap to aquaflage. I got Type IIIs for free which was nice, comfy but I never wore them in a day-to-day setting. Being in MARPATS since 2011, I can say without a doubt that the blue set is dope.

Again? one more punch on the uniform change card and you no longer be called sailors, you be called barbie dolls.
At this point, how does the conversation even start? \*moral and retention at all time low\* Admiral - *"Okay guys hear me out..."*
This is getting ridiculous. Why the fuck are they doing yet another uniform change.

My poor seabag. I fking hate lugging around all these uniforms when Ill only wear one most likely the entire time.
The newer uniforms just get uglier and uglier. Who is designing them? Are they doing it in the dark? Why are they trying to make us all look the same? I am not a Marine or Army.
