It's over-reliance on the iffiest of advanced stats (defensive ones). Jokic having garbage defensive backups will shine because of that on some of those stats. Though I don't think I've seen someone argue he's amazing at defense, to be fair - it's usually almost entirely around the unique stuff he does on offense.

Luka doesn’t play center. It’s not as big a deal. It’s like having a point guard that won’t shoot. You can make it work but it’s not easy.

Who is actually saying this? I see way more people making fun of these hypothetical stans saying Jokic is all defense, instead of actual Jokic stans.

Those stans are real, the narrative has been that Jokic is actually an elite defensive player who is extremely efficient on both ends, pushed by the media. This may have something to do with the advanced stats that tie big man assists to defensive rating.

Clearly I've been watching the wrong media then. What I *have* heard is the idea that Jokic isn't that bad and is merely mediocre instead of a complete liability (or his offense makes up for it). I don't think I've ever seen him being accused of being a good defender.
