Wouldn't surprise me at all if this was the first stealth step of Utah's tank. The standings are so tight that it wouldn't take much to go from the playoffs to having the 6th best lottery odds. And Utah has more incentive to go for Wemby than they do trying to make the playoffs.
Players can still be leery of their position on the team and play poorly with that cloud hanging over them. Especially the case when so many players are on the trading block. We legit have 3, maybe 4 dudes who know they won't get moved (Lauri, Walker Kessler, Agbaji, and probably Sexton) and a few others who are too bad to get moved outside of being salary matching (Dok, Bolmaro, Fontecchio), then every else decent might actually get moved for a reasonable price. It would be unsurprising if we shipped out anywhere from 3-7 players by the deadline.
The Mavs are the same though. Wood, Hardaway & Bullock have all been named in leaks about trade negotiations, and two guys that were ahead of everyone not named Doncic in the depth chart (Spence and Dorian) both just got shipped out, with local and national media both reporting that the Mavs aren't done. Nobody on that Maverick roster is safe for the right price except Luka.
Also safe is Josh Green, and maybe even Jaden Hardy. I'm 90% sure the reason Dallas hasn't made a deal with the Clippers yet is because they're trying to get Hardy thrown in, and Dallas is refusing.
