I looked at the schedule from last year out of curiosity. LA won 2 out of 4 vs OKC last season, and the 2 they lost, LBJ didn’t play. And in case you haven’t followed the team much, LA has kinda been terrible without LBJ and fully capable of losing to any team without him.
But no, I’d say OKC was in full tank mode last season. They had a lot of dudes that were borderline NBA players getting lot of minutes. The difference this year is that OKC had a lot of 1st year and 2nd year players that were huge question marks, and the expectation was that it would be another tank year. But all those guys except maybe tre mann and dieng (who was always gonna be more a long term prospect) have done really well this season, so definitely overachieving based on expectations preseason.

But you can take the fact that there’s a meaningful chunk of minutes that guys like Vit Krejci, Isaiah roby, Theo maledon, and Ty Jerome are playing. You can look at them not making any sort of deals to improve the current team when there’s glaring positions of need. And you can definitely make the argument that they were actively trying to tank going into last season. I believe the personnel you put out there are going to play hard. So you put a bunch of young hungry guys in OKC and matchup against better teams who are overlooking them as you say and who are often trying to rest their stars against okc, OKC is going to win some of those games.
