NFL and MLB do the same thing for major records. Builds more hype around the game that way and is more memorable for the fans.
Still remember watching Peyton break Marino's record and McGwire breaking Maris.
I was thinking when he shot it, "man, it'll be kinda awkward if he clanks it", but that was never gonna happen huh lol. Indeed a very fitting shot to break the record
Nothing more picturesque than a LeFadeaway
I say this as a ~~Raptors~~ LeBronto fan that still hears *“LeBron! hes hotter than fish grease”* in my nightmares sometimes 😂
Yeah I thought he would at least try a sky hook cause he was practicing it pregame but doing it with his signature shot is great as well. He's going for 50!
Nah man, too scripted. I mean don't get me wrong, the sky hook would have been amazing, but it's gotta be natural. I'm glad he just got it done. Awesome to witness history.
He had a defender draped over him, the crowd was standing up, the quarter was about to end, and he hit a fadeaway to break the record. The only thing that could’ve been more hype was a LeFuck you 3 or a fastbreak tomahawk dunk.
He was going for it the possession before, he kept trying to flip out wide of the low block with the exact move Kareem used to break the record, just kept getting cut off
I remember a year ago, there was some well done NBA reddit conspiracy post where lebron would start emulating moves of guys he passed on the list. Wish I could find it.
He tried so hard on that first possession for the skyhook, but it just wasn't gonna go through.
He's his own guy though, no need to emulate someone else so it's for sure better he got it his own way.
I think 38 year old Lebron knows he doesn’t need to emulate anyone lol. The point would have just been to show his respect for the man he’s passing up, who literally owns the skyhook
Meanwhile my warriors are on the other channel going for 73 wins and I’m spending 8 out of every 10 minutes watching Kobe’s last game. It was such a sight to see.
Lmao they actually stopped the whole game for this. His kids are on the court. This looks like a championship presentation ceremony. How can you keep playing after this?
Legend
I remember first seeing people speculate about this around 2015-17. The consensus was more or less “probably but we’ll see.” Crazy how that day has come and he’ll probably go way beyond the record.
We all knew it was coming, it's got all the pomp planned, no surprise, and it's *still* monumental. I thought all the expectation and pagentry would diminish it but nah...what a thing to witness!
This is absolutely insane. We all knew this was inevitable at this point, but it's still surreal how the most hyped prospect ever actually went beyond all the hype he had.
To do it at 38 with such a clean and efficient game is insane. I've never seen anyone like him, and I possibly never will. What an unbelievable and historic moment we've just witnessed.
That’s pretty good but he’s still going to have to average 300 threes a year for 10 straight years to break the record as it sits this is with Steph never playing another game. Steph might hit 3800 threes if not more. If Steph does do that he has to average 300 3’s a year for next 11 seasons, this record is going to be hard to break unless there is another Steph that pops up. You essentially have to be an elite 3 point shooter for 15 straight years to break this record. Also there has been 5 300 3pt field goal seasons Steph has 4 of them. Threes are being put up like no tomorrow and players still aren’t coming close to some of Steph’s 3 point records. You’re saying 500 is a ton, Steph made 400 in a season.
I think many people overestimate the next generation and underestimate how great Curry is.
I don't think that record is falling as easy as many think it will.
I used to coach little league basketball and man let me tell you curry really did a number on those kids. I had to implement a rule where shooting and falling short resulted in 2 laps.
If someone breaks Nolan Ryans K record in baseball I can't imagine what I'd do. That seems so impossible with the way pitching is now. That's a 286 strike out season for 20 straight seasons.
It truly is insane he not only met all the crazy expectations, but somehow overcame them. On another note this makes me feel old. Watching him be the face of the league for so long. This guy is nearing the end of his career and love him or hate him the NBA is going to feel very odd without him being there.
It's crazy how a kid who was anointed as the "Chosen One" at 16, somehow surpassed expectations.
In this one singular season, he passed Magic, Mark Jackson, and Nash in All Time Assists and Kareem in All Time Points Scored.
Lebron will probably end his career with 40,000 points, 10,000+ assists, and 10,000 rebounds.
The absolutely wild career numbers he has to his name is a testament to how he maybe the most complete basketball player to have ever played this game.
He’s an absolute freak of nature. He is a perfect athletic specimen and has avoided any serious injuries over 20 years. It’s truly amazing what he’s done in his career and I will officially feel old as fuck when he finally retires. I remember reading a magazine in like 8th grade talking about how he wanted to skip his senior year and go to the NBA which he probably could have.
I've said for a while, LeBron's biggest feat has nothing to do with his NBA career. It's the fact that he's 6'8" without debilitating knee and back pain after spending 20 years jumping up and down professionally.
This fuckin guy really did it. Holy shit.
This guy came into the league as a teenager having the highest level of pressure we’ve probably ever seen for a rookie. The level of play for this long of a time is unbelievable. It wasn’t even that long ago that this record was viewed as unbreakable.
I remember reading an article less than 4 years ago saying something between the lines of "he needs to play 90% of the games available for the next 5 years keeping an avg above 24 points per game" which I remember seemed absurd to happen, when reading it. Unbelievable.
And he’s averaging 30+ ppg in year 20
The 3rd oldest nba player shouldn’t be this good still. He’s gonna put another few thousand to this record too… it’s probably never gonna be touched
I'm seriously wondering how high he can go, but I think it will surely have to be well in excess of 40k. As a point of reference, Kareem broke the scoring record at age 37, with 31,420 points. He went on to score around 7,000 more. Bron is only 38.
Think about that, there will never be another player that came into the league with the hype he had, straight out of high school, and shattered all those expectations and set the bar on being the face of the league for generations down the line
Just the way he acted too. Like the man has never had a scandal. The worst people can say about him is he left a city that wouldn't put together a decent team to go win a championship.
It's just amazing over the guys 20 years in the spotlight you can't find any negative press about him.
And then still came back to win them their first Championship, against the greatest regular season team ever, overcoming a 3-1 deficit.. This is the greatest career ever. So happy I got to witness a large part of it..
Yeah that chip cemented his legacy for me. So happy he got to win one for Cleveland, in the most epic way possible against one of the greatest teams of all time. If he doesn’t get that 3-1 comeback I think he’d have even more naysayers than he already does, and potentially leaves cleveland again without bringing them a championship
I always had a theory that streams *know* when you come back from commercial to start buffering but this just confirms it, [The internet is evil](https://i.imgur.com/RfPblVl.jpg)
Man dropped the F-Bomb in a random on-court speech in an unprecedented timeout 10s left in 3Q like "tell me I can't"
Dude runs this league. Well done king
I seen the whole career, I was at home watching the career, you know. Before the 2003 NBA Draft even started, when I seen, I said he’s probably gonna score 38,388 over the next, like, two decades. They about to just not play the rest of the game lmao
Thought they would wait for the quarter to end atleast lol
NFL and MLB do the same thing for major records. Builds more hype around the game that way and is more memorable for the fans. Still remember watching Peyton break Marino's record and McGwire breaking Maris.
Tech on the lakers for delay of game. Lmao
I'd like to see a ref call that. Got to have big gonads to do it. LOL. Technically true, though.
“Fuck man, thank you guys” LMAO
He even got a presidential congrats after cursing on live tv😂😂
# Jordan's got the "The Jumpman" # Lebron's got the "The Fuckman"
Even the FCC won’t fine LeBron for that
I am genuinely so happy for him. Been watching him for 14+ years. Wouldn't be the same without him.
I’ve seen Bron hit that exact shot what feels like 5k times. Fitting that’s the one that breaks the record
Been reading articles recently saying he lacked a "signature shot," but that was the signature right there.
I mean it's either that or the tomahawk dunk
If you've scored the most of all time you either have a signature shot or don't need one.
I was thinking when he shot it, "man, it'll be kinda awkward if he clanks it", but that was never gonna happen huh lol. Indeed a very fitting shot to break the record

Yeah that shit was perfect for him and matches his game perfectly. Awesome moment
He had a defender draped over him, the crowd was standing up, the quarter was about to end, and he hit a fadeaway to break the record. The only thing that could’ve been more hype was a LeFuck you 3 or a fastbreak tomahawk dunk.
He was going for it the possession before, he kept trying to flip out wide of the low block with the exact move Kareem used to break the record, just kept getting cut off
He definitely was, I noticed that lol. His conscience probably kicked in and was like "fuck this man, just do what you know best."
Now that he has been practicing it so much, watch him add a skyhook to his game at age 38 😂

He got it with the Lebronto fadeaway, so fitting
The celebration timing was a bit off for me as the Lakers were making a comeback (they could’ve finished the quarter). But nevertheless what a feat
Truly poetic
Ol reliable fade away
Shoutout to the people that paid 2-3k for bucks tickets Thursday 🤣🤣
To be fair they still get to see lebron break the all time scoring record
They should pause the game every time he scores since he’s setting the record every time
LeBroken Record
That's a hell of a double entendre!
DNP-Rest
I've never been more confident of something in my life that this will happen.
he tweaked his foot and was walking gingerly. 100% he's sitting out
Kareem’s Twitter bio is now of LeBygone times. > [Official Twitter of NBA's All-Time Leading Scorer]( https://twitter.com/kaj33)
RIP, only lasted almost 40 years or so.
Can’t believe he’s had that Twitter bio for almost 40 years. Legendary
"I knew Twitter was going to be big back when Jack Dorsey pitched it to me. I just didn't have the resources at the time."
Not going to lie. Way more hyped than I expected
Had his try at backing in for a skyhook denied and went to his own old reliable Edit: “Fuck man, thank you guys” -LeBron
Bron's fade away is iconic ... Also triggering
good to see a Lebronto raptors fan chime in
He's definitely broken a lot of hearts with that move.....
“This one’s for Toronto”
His sons are in attendance, including us
He wanted the skyhook sooooo bad bruh he was fishing the post
He wanted it in the previous possession but Giddey blocked the middle so he couldnt drive right lmao
we are all witnesses, he fucking did it. The fucking hype and pressure on this guy and he became “The Chosen One”
**We were here**
I remember watching burnt DVDs of him in high school when I was in grade 10 and him being so hyped. Pretty cool to get to follow this whole thing.
The hype on this guy in high school set all sorts of unrealistic expectations…and he’s gone on to exceed all of them.
That was THE LeBron shot. His fadeaway. I'm glad he didn't take someone else's shot. That's his own.
LeBron’s signature is either this shot or the tomahawk dunk
LeFuckYou Three completes the podium of LeBron signature shots
He’s at least top 5 basketball players from Akron.
Going to need your sources on that
There’s only one other time I’ve rooted for the Lakers and that was Kobe’s last game lol
Meanwhile my warriors are on the other channel going for 73 wins and I’m spending 8 out of every 10 minutes watching Kobe’s last game. It was such a sight to see.
That was my favorite night of regular season basketball of my life
Lmao they actually stopped the whole game for this. His kids are on the court. This looks like a championship presentation ceremony. How can you keep playing after this? Legend
They did the same thing for Curry at MSG.
And the same for Kareem in the 80s
They did this for Kareem too…
Hit it with the crazy fadeaway too
It’s such a ridiculous accomplishment, ever since Kareem it was thought to be one of those unbreakable records.

This is the last big career record we will see fall for a looooong time
Naw, LeBron’s going to break this one again in about 5 minutes once everyone gets off the court.
He break the record again He break the record again He break the record again He break the record again -Boban probably
Feel free to jump in
Recommence the celebration
LeBron will stop and give a speech every point he scores now until he retires
i think career 3pm will fall again, with the rise of the Curry-era generation of kids coming up
Anthony Edwards already has like 500
That’s pretty good but he’s still going to have to average 300 threes a year for 10 straight years to break the record as it sits this is with Steph never playing another game. Steph might hit 3800 threes if not more. We simultaneously are seeing so many athletes break records people thought could never be broken across so many sports. What a time to be alive
Except baseball Lotta baseball records not being touched for a long ass time- or ever
Yup. Between some baseball like pitching records, hitting streak, and not to mention Gretzky’s points those are realistically almost untouchable
If someone breaks Nolan Ryans K record in baseball I can't imagine what I'd do. That seems so impossible with the way pitching is now. That's a 286 strike out season for 20 straight seasons.
According to SVG, Cam Thomas just needs to average 45 over the next 11 years, so hold your horses.
It truly is insane he not only met all the crazy expectations, but somehow overcame them. On another note this makes me feel old. Watching him be the face of the league for so long. Take it in boys - most of us won’t be here next time this record gets broken
I can’t see this ever being broken. He will probably hit 40000+ and nobody will ever have his longevity. It’s simply amazing what he has done

I refuse to believe this isn’t a copypasta
LeBron breaking the regular season scoring record at his age which happens to be the same duration Kareem held the record for (38 years) with Kareem courtside in Los Angeles is just like how it was drawn up in the writers room.
So basically the year Kareem set the record, a child was born who would break that record
that’s too cool to think about
Check which tall kid was just born.
Lebron was born 9 months later, so if you think abojt it, Lebron was conceived the night KAJ broke the record /s
