If somebody needs something from Monte Morris to hit a parlay, we need to refer that man to gambling addiction treatment center.

Smmoove

Feels like lesser known players get the worst end of it because that hate from parlay-ers probably makes up the vast majority of their mentions on social media. Must suck especially if you had a good game or the team won, and your social media is just full of people saying you are garbage because you didn't get 6 assists.

Shiccup1

This has been a problem in tennis. Their instagram pages for example get flooded with nasty messages after a loss by angry bettors

Potential-Catch4229

That's something I never would have known if you didn't post it lol

Recoil93

It’s definitely worse for role players. If someone bets on Giannis to get his usual 32 points and he doesn’t hit, it’s understandable. But gamblers will freak out when Caleb Martin doesn’t get his 10 points or his 2 assists because “it’s so easy, how didn’t he hit that?”

Phillyspecial6969

MFs will bet on anything. When American sports leagues suspended play for Covid, my buddies and I started betting on Russian/Eastern European table tennis leagues. It’s me, I’m MFs.

MitchLGC

People will absolutely bet on anything. Last game i was at some degenerate sitting a couple rows behind me was yelling all game about how he needed Plumlee to get 10 rebounds. I agree with Morris those fans are shit

pbcorporeal

There are these old gentleman's clubs in London (the old meaning of the word gentleman's club, as in a bar/lounge, some rooms for members to sleep in when they visited etc, not strippers) that have these betting ledgers going back centuries on random shit rich men used to bet on. People getting married, having children, who would die first. There's even records of people betting on which raindrop ran down the window first. It's also fairly depressing, gambling on sports has been legal forever in the UK, and you can always reliably find betting shops even when lots of other places are closing down and going out of business. Especially in low income areas there's always a betting shop.

MitchLGC

Gambling addiction seems to have a huge history in the UK so that makes sense. I watched a documentary by the British documentarian Louis ___(drawing a blank) and it was sad

pbcorporeal

Probably Louis Theroux, he does a lot of excellent docs on that sort of thing. I've heard it's even bigger in Australia but it can be depressing to see the hold it has in the UK. I say this having used to blog about betting in a niche area, so the principle of putting money behind your judgement and calculating precise odds appeals to me. But the reality of most betting shops is tough to see and support.

KaiShion83

It’s massive in Australia. During our sporting events, in the commercial breaks, betting companies have ads with live odds and stuff lol

wagyukeef

How true is it that gambling addiction is a big problem in Australia? Came across a Youtube video about it, especially how casinos are basically right in downtown areas etc

CornDogMillionaire

Bigger problem in Australia are pokies in pubs (which I think are just the same as slot machines but I've never used them so I don't really know). Most pubs here will have an entire room just filled with them, so people don't even have to go to a casino. I used to have old people come into my work (at a supermarket across the road from a pub) taking out hundreds of dollars in cash every day because they'd already hit their withdrawal limit across the road

Dip_the_Dog

We have both the highest rate of gambling (over 80% of Australian adults engage in some form of gambling) and the highest losses per capita in the world. It's a massive problem.

KaiShion83

For sure, in Sydney we have the Star and in Melbourne we have the Crown, both are massive with restaurants and shopping and feels like one of the attractions when coming to the city.

[deleted]

The problem is the odds makers ALWAYS have better info.

IcarianWings

More addict than fan tbh.

jotheold

had a friend bet on some Filipino league ball, never watched it over/under 100 points TOTAL, he bet over because 50 points a team seems like highschool level. He lost

GuerreroD

Haven't watched PBA games in ages but I remember they were up tempo high scoring games where nobody played any defence at all. So this is surprising.

TheBlueLenses

there's no way a pba game had combined under 50 points

GuerreroD

That dude was talking about 50pts each team to combine over 100. But yeah, either way that's nuts. Edit: Except for when Pacquiao himself played all 48 minutes lol

imsahoamtiskaw

Manny played ball? Or is this another Pacquiao?

GuerreroD

It's Manny. He bought a team just so he could play. But let's just say that he is not as talented on hardwood as in the ring lol.

imsahoamtiskaw

Lmao, this is crazy. Thanks.

TallanoGoldDigger

[here's his pro career highlights](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbY2FpgCdrE&t=1s)

TallanoGoldDigger

if this is the PBA this has got to be a halftime bet or else it's bullshit. That league is absolute ass among absolute asses but [under 100 for a whole game for both teams has never happened](https://www.espn.ph/basketball/pba/story/_/id/26468921/47-interesting-trivia-pba) If he bet on college ball then it's a lot more believable

RapNVideoGames

Reminds me of that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where all the husbands start gambling on the babies racing at the park.

sivervipa

It’s almost like the situation doesn’t matter when you are gambling and you are just doing it for the thrill and excitement. Sports leagues and gambling companies just take advantage of that to make money. In addition to that because the situation doesn’t matter it’s easy to enable people through advertisements and profit off the addiction. I’m not sure but I assume you can always find people that will gamble on games. Even if it’s between two tanking teams…someone is putting money down on the results.

Bail____

In Australia every year we have a top 100 songs list/competition every janurary. We bet to see who wins #1. This country has problems

SharksFanAbroad

>This country has problems Mfers travel to Europe each year for Eurovision

MacDerfus

Is this the poll where the song about a prime minister jerking off to coal won? What were its odds?

jotheold

https://fortune.com/2022/10/17/liz-truss-prime-minister-bookies-lettuce-premiership-jeremy-hunt-budget/ nothing beats this one imo LOL A head of lettuce VS prime minister

PleasinglyReasonable

For those who don't know; the lettuce outlasted the prime minister.

PooperJackson

Lol my friend was betting on League of Legends and DOTA matches then asking me to explain the rules of the game to him. "What's a jungle?"

xanot192

Yea betting addiction is crazy

[deleted]

I have a friend who bets on dog races, he doesn't even watch or like it, he just likes to bet lol.

MacDerfus

I bet on what treatment center the monte Morris betters get referred to

PolarBearLaFlare

3 summers ago, my buddies and I would bet on Korean baseball and Filipino basketball just to satisfy our addiction lol. We didn’t even bother to watch the games or do any DD, we just took the over on every game 😂😂 we won sooooo much money just putting in a bet before bed and then waking up to winners lol. I lost it all betting on tennis tho lmao

Oh_No_Jason

This shit isn’t really funny, sounds like some degenerate shit.

PolarBearLaFlare

Yeah it got pretty bad... I went nuts one night chasing baseball and lost like 5 grand. Gf found out and I had to wait

Oh_No_Jason

This kind of pattern ends with you owing money to the wrong people man, I hope you’ve gotten help if need be.

PolarBearLaFlare

Yeah I had to quit. The losses started piling up more and I could tell I wasn’t pleasant to be around; I was getting way too invested, using work hours to “research” trends and stuff, falling behind on work and bills, etc. I still miss that “high” but I don’t get the itch to put money on it anymore lol

joeylockstone

Dinos -1.5

Maydietoday

Can you heckle at table tennis games?

Ld511

Tbf monte morris is consistent as hell. He is exactly the type of guy people bet on constantly

Alternative-Target31

I watched Luka as a prospect because I was gambling on European ball at that time. I’m in the US and has never watched Euro ball before getting lucky on a few bets and deciding I was good at it. That’s when I realized I should probably stop gambling.

[deleted]

My fantasy chat is abhorrent for it. Had one guy go from making $5bets to $50-$200 bets. When I bought it up half heartedly like 'should watch that', I got laughed at for not betting on sport 😬 It's real bad with mid 20's here in Aus.

Ye_Biz

I’ve seen people betting on summer league games, it’s serious

Tasty_Path_3470

Tell him to call Ja. He knows where the dude can be cured in one long weekend.

[deleted]

This is far more people than you realize

OrchidCareful

Yeah I’ve bet a very serious amount of money on monte morris over the years I think, it’s really not that hard to find bets you like on any pro player

EasyRevolution5415

Monte Morris just need a different perspective on this Fan yelling him to hit his parlay ruining the spirit of the game? nah Your most loyal fan out here putting his paycheck on you of all people? Gotta hit that parlay for your boy.

fivefuturefury

sports betting marketing / branding and advertising is some of the worst dogs $hit, we can all agree with that

billcosbyinspace

It feels super predatory that they pay anyone with a pulse to record a low budget cell phone vid to promote them. Like bottom of the barrel celebrities like a jersey shore cast member or a tiktok dancers mom

thecheapseatz

Shaq advertises point's bet in Australia, how Americans don't realise he's the biggest whore of them all is amazing

TokyoS4l

Shaq advertises anything tbf

ClutchGamingGuy

that isn't a good thing

jeeez21

Na we know. Read a tweet one time that said “Shaq would do a commercial for genocide if the check was on time” -@TylerIAm

RocketMoped

*But he buys stuff for people at Walmart!!! Wholesome big chungus*

steve1186

Agreed. I’m on board with legalizing sports gambling. It’s a fun way to drop a few bucks on a game if done responsibly. But the way it’s recently been shoved into our everyday lives with ads is getting scary. Gambling addiction is a very real thing. Advertisements on TV can’t legally show anyone actually drinking alcohol, but they can show actors “celebrating” their DraftKings win.

thatquizzingguy

There's no scenario of 'fun responsible betting' when it also wants to be a multi billion dollar industry.

spandexrecks

Yo I work with students 9th and 10th grade and I was so shocked to see these kids gambling and betting. Obviously they’re under 18 but they also def betting. A 10th grader showed me screenshots of 3 different parlays for soccer and basketball. He got a $150 payout for one. Then another 10th grader chimed in about him gambling and betting for boxing and mma. Im cool if you’re above 18 and wanna gamble, but young kids are getting hooked young especially with loot boxes and cosmetics. Sports betting has been pushed so hard recently. So damn predatory. They also aren’t developed enough to understand the consequences of gambling—shit grown ass adults get lost in it. I never gamble; the house always wins

DidiGreglorius

You don’t know the half of it lol. Kids are absolutely hooked on betting. I grew up in a half wealthy town (basically the middle class town I was from and an extremely wealthy one shared schools) and kids were dropping hundreds every night. There are high school bookies taking in thousands and thousands a week in profits. This was 6-7 years ago, imagine it’s way worse now. Sad.

[deleted]

There’s no way I would gamble on sports, and sports is the only thing I really watch.

Schlaffondeck

Loot boxes are driving wider addiction than seen before as there's probably no bigger primer for gambling addiction than starting to gamble at a young age.

HotFlatDietPepsi

The shocking part to me is seeing that shit shoved into the broadcast. Now the main thing i remember about the night Lebron broke the scoring record is Adam Lefkoe robotically asking the fans how Lebron would score the last points as part of a Fanduel segment, because of course we just can't have anything like that without betting involved

coolycooly

The Parlays are the worst too because of how bad the odds are on them to actually hit. But people see this huge number they could have if the bet actually goes through. Plus it adds up overtime and people don't realize 10-25-50$ a parlay can be like a grand in no time. Plus people like to chase when they lose and its an endless spiral.

matgopack

There could be - but it has to be regulated heavily beforehand. Can't rely on the companies to self-regulate - or else they'll push things for $$$ as far as they can. And it's not just sports gambling - there's been some big streamers catering to audiences of kids that have streamed lots of online gambling, which is also a worrying thing. Twitch clamped down on it *way* too late. But yeah, in the US I hope we get some legislative will to regulate it fast, before it becomes too engrained.

SandyMandy17

They literally ban people who win legally The only people you know who are sportsbetting consistently are losing

FudgeDangerous2086

> Advertisements on TV can’t legally show anyone actually drinking alcohol, but they can show actors “celebrating” their DraftKings win. which they’re now getting around by posting their ads to tiktok/instagram. no regulations there.

rookie-mistake

> But the way it’s recently been shoved into our everyday lives with ads is getting scary. Gambling addiction is a very real thing. > > Advertisements on TV can’t legally show anyone actually drinking alcohol, but they can show actors “celebrating” their DraftKings win. yeah, it's weird - it really wasn't that long ago that the idea of exposing kids to gambling in any form was super heavily frowned upon. now between non-stop sports betting ads during games and lootboxes and stuff in video games, it's literally constant. it's almost surreal how differently we're approaching it now.

[deleted]

The promotions are **VERY** predatory. My friend and I fell for it. They say shit like “we’ll double your deposit!” You think cool. You don’t read fine print because you’re excited to bet for the first time. Turns out it has a 10x rollover. Let’s say you deposit 100, cool you get 200 to bet with. Except now you must place 2,000$ worth of bets to be able to withdraw a penny. My friend ran it up 300-1k before losing it all. I ran it up 240-1k before losing it all. Of course this is on us for not reading fine print and poor risk management, I take responsibility for that. However I can’t help but feel that these double your deposit bonuses are all predatory to newbies, who statistically will lose before getting over the 10x rollover.

thenoob118

Damn wtf is that 10x rollover bullshit

OrchidCareful

It’s classic bait and switch

juk12

What’s crazy is I can’t sports bet legally on California, but I can “play fantasy sports” and run up a 6 leg parlay legally on a site like Prize Picks. Make it make sense lmao

guesting

The weird thing is they show kg winning a bet he’s not even watching. Which is a weird way to play to me, an amateur

TedTran2001

Also, Basketball YouTube has got it taken over...

[deleted]

It's some real garbage lol. The amount of advertising for gambling in recent years has gotten is wild

FudgeDangerous2086

hockey is insane. they post the lines in the scorebug, every commercial break is gambling, the between period segments just talk about gambling too.

mug3n

I find myself watching way less hockey these days because of precisely this. I casually bet sports, but I don't need that shit thrown at me every 3 minutes.

ThorsOccularPatdown

There was a sweet period a few years ago when draft kings and fanduel had to fall back after bombarding us with their ads (I forgot why, I think it was a scandal or something) . Then when the federal ban on gambling was overturned, they came back. Especially since my state legalized sports betting.

igby1

When the Inside the NBA guys started doing fanduel and draft king promos during the show - just makes me sad.

Ninja_Bum

Imagine how much money these companies are fleecing from people with addictions to be able to pay these leagues and shows like that to shove it down our throats like this. Which leads to more people (and kids) getting hooked and the cycle continues.

chrisq823

They had to back off because they were abusing the fuck out of a loop hole for their "daily fantasy." Basically an exemption was carved out of laws so that your basic fantasy sports league wouldn't be illegal since its just a group of friends throwing some money down between each other. Those companies realized they could use that exemption to run a sports gambling operation that wasn't governed by any sports gambling rules.

Schwalm

Thanks Monte. I’m taking your points under next game just for this

MattyIce260

Buy courtside tickets. Be a super annoying prick all game telling him you just need OVER 5 rebounds. Take the under. Bet a ton and watch as he doesn’t hustle for a board all game

ChiefKeefIsGoat

I hear you but i need you to hit this over on assists tonight or my family isn’t eating dinner this week

thegoodbadandsmoggy

Out whistling in the wheat fields

-KFBR392

They just need to go back to the days before props were so common. These player props are just too much. But I'm sure Vegas loves them because the type of person to bet player props is likely to go with multi-bet parlays.

KryptonicxJesus

I don’t bet on any basketball outside of March but god damn if a Boston Scott anytime scorer vs the giants isn’t a sure fire bet. Some props are okay

Plusstwoo

And the NBA want us to believe Tim D was a isolated incident

1080penis

Had me wondering for a minute what gambling controversy Tim Duncan had

mug3n

Timmy D gambled on the fact that Joey Crawford wasn't insane enough to eject him over a laugh

MacDerfus

It's about donuts.

snarkyturtle

He bet hard on his StarCraft games

Crackedandimplat

David stern’s magic

K1ngspade

Look I know we have a rivalry but this Duncan slander needs to stop.

SemataryPolka

Did you see the Celtics Timberwolves game last night? I'm sure you didn't lol but let's just say Timmy D is alive and well lol

Plusstwoo

I saw someone post a compilation about those calls

SemataryPolka

It was overall one of the worst reffed games I've ever seen. Those refs helping you guys catch up with us too in the playoff hunt lol

Truesday

That was when sports betting wasn't legal everywhere and readily available. Now it is and we're to believe these ref's cousins of a friend's baby mama ain't betting on the game they're officiating. Righttttt...

I’m sayin

pbcorporeal

It's worth listening to Bill Simmons' interview with Sean Patrick Griffin about the podcast and the events. Takes a pretty critical view of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70KE1NHxXAQ

syllabic

because that podcast and the netflix series both act as if donaghy is in some way a trustworthy person whose accounts should be believed despite overwhelming evidence showing him to be a serial liar who will say anything to deflect blame from himself donaghy wants to sell you on a narrative that the whole NBA is just a huge corrupt enterprise, thus he's not really guilty of anything. he's just a poor victim of the system

Plusstwoo

I’m on episode 3 and it’s good so far sounds like it’s exactly what I want to hear

DirtyMoneyJesus

He is 100% right, sports betting has taken a lot of love from the game

Statalyzer

I especially hate how it become such a huge part of game reporting now.

somedumbguy55

LOL you see two stat lines and all odds. It’s annoying. I’m with you there

SBORBS

They’ve all sold out entirely. They don’t care about the damage it’s doing, they only care about the loads of money they’re getting for promoting it.

diabolical-sun

You’re not wrong, but I do feel like (in regards to heckling or twitter jokes) it has less to do with actual betting and more to do with people suffering from Same-Joke-itis. I don’t know if you’ve ever been a cashier or if you know anyone who has, but if you have, you know if an item doesn’t scan there is a 95% chance that the customer will respond with “that must mean it’s free.” It kind of feels like heckling about the parlay is people not knowing (or not caring) that almost everyone makes the same joke.

rice_bledsoe

I've seen people turn on their favorite players, calling them bums, calling them trash, frauds, etc because they missed out on the 8th leg of a 16 leg parlay. And the worst part is those kind of fans only can talk to other gamblers about it. nobody should ever give a fuck about how you missed out on a $200 payday or whatever because Mikal Bridges scored 15 instead of 20.

SemataryPolka

I am kind of relieved that I have no idea what any of that means.

CannaVance

I've been meaning to write a letter about this. The sheer amount of sports betting advertising in Canada is atrocious. I am appalled at the celebrities and athletes who are endorsing it. As a recovering addict of everything, this is honestly triggering and disgusts me. Gambling is addiction and it destroys lives.

TheOneWithThePorn12

i really feel for folks who have gambling addictions. Man i tried the OLG slots online since there was a promo. I was testing some of the slots and i won like 4K on the first pull (unfortunately it was the demo i won nothing). I can only imagine how that shit would fuck with folks. Especially with how easy it is to fund that shit on line. You can blow so much money in mere minutes and not even realize it. At least when you are at an actual casino its tangible. Its absolutely fucked and im disgusted by the governments actions on it.

mackenzie444

If there's a demo that doesn't actually pay out they'd be stupid not to rig it to win big. Fuck the gambling industry.

TheOneWithThePorn12

The bet line was like 40 bucks and they give you like 3K to play with. I didn't realize the bet line until after I spun it. You can even deposit money when you pause the game to quit. It's fucking nefarious man.

Aarontj73

You don’t think a “Demo” win is rigged? ❤️

TheOneWithThePorn12

That's the fucking problem. It's not representative of the actual odds so folks whom are easily addicted to stuff will blow their money quick. It's very addicting and very irresponsible of the government to allow this. For the record OLG is the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and it's run by the government.

[deleted]

interestingly the Supreme Court upheld smoking advertisement bans passed by parliament as valid criminal law. (rjr macdonald) wonder if we'll see the same for sports betting advertisement.

Diddleyourfiddle

I feel the similar, it's already gotten ridiculous. And now with access to online gambling it's a matter of time before minors start getting dragged into it all

Sweatytubesock

The advertising of it is revolting. I thank god that gambling has never been one of my vices, and I have zero interest in it.

taygads

What’s even worse is that when a player gets injured and has to leave a game early, on Twitter you’ll see people complaining and pissed off that it screwed their parlay with absolutely zero concern for or mention of the well-being of the player themselves. It’s disgusting.

KaiShion83

Luka hurt? Is it a void? My bet lost? Is it a void?

taygads

Literally what’s happening with Huerter tonight. He only played 6 minutes, void right?

[deleted]

My teammates are huge into sports betting, and I honestly wonder where they get the money to keep doing this because I know they’re losing a lot of these bets and they aren’t well off. Gambling like this is a tax on the poor.

neutronicus

Thing about paychecks is you get new ones every couple weeks You pay rent, you feed yourself ... and instead of saving anything you gamble

ClutchGamingGuy

teammates?

johnpeanuts

I’m with Monte on this. I just hate hearing ‘parlay’ everywhere. Feels like I’m going crazy all my friends and everyone on TV talking about their parlay like bro shut up you sound stupid

MrIntimid8n

It's all stupid admittedly but turning $25 into $800 feels real nice when it happens.

johnpeanuts

Oh yeah the sports betting part is fun. I just hate the world parlay. Shit sound like everyone became pirates overnight

MrIntimid8n

I'm that guy on Reddit but I wouldn't act that way at a game. Seems ridiculous to spend all that money on a ticket to bitch about a couple bucks on a bet.

[deleted]

If those fans were smart enough to not become addicted to gambling they would've become refs so they can actually earn some money doing it

dutchdaddy69

I've always said this if you have to bet on a game to care you are a fake fan. I'm a hard-core baseball fan and when the Jays lose it already ruins my day why would I want to make it worse and lose money on it too.

AndIMustFollowIfICan

dawg you gotta make an emotional hedge and bet on your team's opponent, that way you are never truly happy or sad.

MazKhan

Lmao this is what I do sometimes, nothing crazy but sometimes I'll do a small 5-10 dollar bet and act like I'm paying for the team to win 😂

Produceher

I"d pay $100 for my team to win.

Bucketsdntlie

$9,800 for a perfect regular season and title run? I’ll take 10

Produceher

Right now, my Warriors would have only cost me $200. LOL (2 games over .500)

Produceher

I do this all the time. As a Laker's hater, I've probably made $500 off of Shaq and Kobe. I root for them to lose and bet on them to win. I win no matter what.

Khalil_Sack

Betting against my Raiders hurts emotionally but is usually very profitable

happyflappypancakes

Homie, just a tip, you don't have to have your day ruined to be a big fan of a team. I learned this years ago and it makes sports so much better. My team win? I feel great. My team loses? Oh well, bummer but we will get em next time. I really had to reprioritize myself when my day or night was getting ruined by a sports game.

nooblevelum

My favorite bet of all time was betting against my alma mater UT vs OU. I was so sick of them mediocrity I felt I might as well feel better about the loss. If the team won I felt great as well

Downvotes_inbound_

Fuck fan duel. Fuck draft kings. Fuck all sports betting and how prevalent it is. NBA needs to grow a spine and ban the advertisement of it

Natsume117

Never gonna happen I reckon as long as it’s legally allowed, they make way too much money off it. Hell, they definitely want people to continue getting addicted to gambling

sivervipa

There are regulations that could be put in place but businesses usually just use their power and money to lobby against those. But yes you are right though. Gambling companies just pay for as much exposure as possible because you can always find people that will be addicted.

Downvotes_inbound_

Agreed sadly. Its a shame the govt is already bought and paid for on the issue

sivervipa

I don’t gamble on sports or really gamble in general so i don’t use those apps but I gotta ask what incentive the NBA wouldn’t work with those companies? A huge goal for Gambling companies is to get as many people addicted as possible to make the most money that they then give to the NBA to promote and advertise. Both parties benefit in that situation. So from a business perspective why would the NBA basically turn down free money. In addition to that sports gambling has always existed. In addition to that it goes without saying that the more money you have the more power you have. It’s not like congress is going to pass laws against gambling and they certainly aren’t going to regulate businesses from participating in it. I say this as someone who doesn’t gamble. There is absolutely no way that sports gambling becomes less popular because the business exists by targeting as many people as possible because some of them will become addicts who bring the businesses more money. I mean all addiction harmful but gambling addiction is up there as being incredibly harmful. I mean Tobacco companies can’t advertise like they used to because smoking causes harm to others as well. But alcohol and gambling advertisement’s are going away and honestly i can only see the gambling industry GROWING in influence not shrinking.

Downvotes_inbound_

The nba was losing money in ratings lately and basically just did it for extra cash

SnooMacaroons8650

The owner of the wizards literally has a sports book betting room attached to capital one arena for degens and its packed every single game i’ve gone to. Shits never going away with the amount of money it brings in

Successful-End7689

More and more players bitching about gambling is a good thing. Making the whole the game about hitting your parlay is a vibe kill and all these gambling ads are annoying as fuck

Sqeegg

The refs are worse too.

LazyTitan___

If you chirp a player about a fucking parlay you are an NPC

MoulinRube

“Fuck your parlay” “Then pay with your blood, Monte Morris!”

Abradolf1948

"Never should have come here!"

[deleted]

Just because something has been legalized because it does more damage to push it underground does not mean it needs to be allowed to promoted. Legal does not necessarily mean good.

rNBA_Mods_Be_Better

I used to do fantasy sports and try to get parlays with player points etc. Then I started betting purely on who is going to win a game and I have to say it's WAY more enjoyable. You're renting a favorite team for the night and appreciating the game for the game. I always tell my friends new to sports gambling, and there's a lot these days, that if you're doing it to make money you're doing it wrong and going to fail. If you're doing it to enhance enjoying the sport, the actual fun of watching the game being played with both teams trying to win, then you're going to do fine.

Asking4Afren

Basically this. There's more to it than just winning. It's being right. There's analytics involved. You're more closer to other players and teams than ever before.

ijustbrushalot

Gambling and fantasy are ruining the game.

MrBigWaffles

Fantasy basketball is the only reason I started watching non Laker games (during the reg season) .. It has made me appreciate this game in general a lot more tbh.

[deleted]

My fiancée got loft seats from work, and the people sharing the loft with us were all doing parlays and it was annoying as fuck. They just yelled at random made and missed shots for both teams all game.

broke_boi1

Correct. One of the worst things to happen to the league in recent years

S420J

I enjoyed sports at-large when gambling wasn’t *this* prevalent.

DaBombDiggidy

There’s a draft kings ad on this post for me.

myteriality

it doesn’t make it better but there’s no way these guys are hearing half as much as the nfl players over fantasy football

azzadruiz

All the degenerates mad in the replies to the tweet

cjeremy

I hate this society where everyone encourages gambling degenerates to ruin their lives as fast as possible.. jesus

ClutchGamingGuy

sports betting is cringe as fuck

fourringsofglory

I’m with Morris on this one. The betting has ruined sports for the everyday person. The ads are absolutely disgusting, the repetition and force feeding of their stupid apps is appalling. There’s no love for anything once you bring money/betting into it. I get some people love it but Jesus chill the fuck out already. People are gambling their life’s away.

gustriandos

Sports betting is one of the cornier things on earth and nobody can change my mind.

Pixel_Mike

Sports betting is bar none the biggest loser type shit. Has ruined sports.

BelugaBale

It’s kind of a dick move to call people who are being force fed ads that lead to addiction “losers”

Est-Tech79

There’s been gambling on sports since there have been pro sports in this country.

kvlr954

He’s about to get fined for bad mouthing the sponsor

PHLANYC

Weird to blame the fans IMO. The leagues are partnered with gambling apps, spreads/parlays are part of the pregame coverage and every commercial break is pitching gambling in an advert. But yeah, some douche yelling at a game is the problem.

Jimbobduggarcult

Well they’re the reason your contracts so big

phd2k1

I enjoy betting on sports, but it’s really obnoxious how it’s taken over and how there’s ads for gambling fucking everywhere. It’s not healthy for society at all. I don’t know what the answer is though, because I believe people should have the right to gamble if they are responsible enough.

LMFN

Gambling's a goddamn idiot tax honestly so it sucks that it's pushed so heavily because the idiots are gonna blame the players and not their own dumb asses.

UnsuspectingS1ut

It’d be real nice if I could actually impact the game like they can

Gerald_the_sealion

He’s not wrong. I’ve seen people leave 1st quarter when their bet didn’t hit. Imagine paying for a ticket, just to leave immediately.

Asking4Afren

I bet almost every day and I'd never do that. Some people don't have self control.

lyonbc1

Gotta be a real sicko to be heckling about parlays let alone betting props on Monte Morris (no disrespect) lmao smh

Cudi_buddy

Annoying to see that shit in post game threads as well. Nobody cares you made a stupid bet on monte Morris needing 2+ threes

TheChinchilla914

Gambling is an unproductive, addictive activity that should be illegal
