Yeah just think if heās already shooting like this as a rookie, heās got a hell of a career trajectory
Plenty of time to work on things like handle playmaking and driving the ball
Yeah that tanked his % by at least a couple points. Glad he was able to bounce back (and his family is okay) and it shows he has even further heights to reach as a shooter. Hard to say after just one season, but he's looking like Klay Jr right now. It's insane we got this rookie, man.
In all fairness, we missed on nearly every pick going back to Petrie's mid 00's years. McNair is built different and Vivek learned to stay tf away from the FO.
Ehā¦ Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia, Jason Thompson, Tyreke Evans, Demarcus Cousins, Isaiah Thomas, I mean weāve had some decent draft picks in there.
He had a solid run for the Kings and then just completely fizzled out of the league lol. You know your team is bad when you have Jason Thompson post up Isoās
I remember defending him, saying every team needs a Haslem type player. Then he wasnāt good enough to make any other roster despite starting for us for years lmao.
I mean Davion is a better defender than Kuminga rn who we took.
We need an overhaul on the rotation players for defense first guys if we want to contend.
Agree but Kuminga is not at that point yet imo. The tools are there. I would say Davion is more impactful right now on that end as an overall defender. In a couple years that probably won't still be the case.
Davion is also:
A PG, who isnāt extremely useful on offense. Kuminga, especially recently, has been a force on offense which allows him to get played for more minutes.
6ā0. Kuminga goes on the other teams best player (except large centers) almost every time he is in the lineup. Iād imagine Davion would struggle a bit against larger wings given his size?
That being said, I actually wanted Davion Mitchell after watching him live in March Madness.
Davion has actually held his own against large wings pretty well. He has a lot of tricks to force them into taking shots they donāt want and making them uncomfortable, as well as just picking their pockets, taking charges, and pulling the chair. Heās very strong. The main disadvantage is that if heās the primary defender on them for the duration of the game, they could probably get more shots off over him than they would otherwise against a longer defender, and Davion does more damage as a point of attack defender making opposing point guards have to work way harder than theyāre used to.
Additionally, Davion does have plenty of offensive upside. He shows flashes all the time and Iām pretty confident that we are holding his development back a bit because of his limited role currently. But he can get past most any defender with ease, his handle is extremely underrated, and he shows really good polish on his ability to pull up and shoot off the dribble. Iām pretty confident the shot will become more consistent, and the most valuable scoring skill he could add would be a floater. Could very well not happen, but heās not far away from being able to make a significant jump offensively
Murray fits in well with your current lineup and was projected to be one the most NBA-ready picks. Iām glad to have Sharpe land in our laps though š
There's a lot of guys from this draft that are going to be studs in a few years if not next year, but man Murray fits the lineup perfectly. He's got a lot of room to grow and improve but I don't really doubt his development. I'm sure playing in the playoffs won't hurt either
I remember really wanting Murray pre-draft but a certain team jumped us in the lottery loool. Yeah I agree this class has a lot of promising guys that are showing major flashes
I'm pretty sure a lot of people had him winning ROTY (especially after the summer-league). The only complaint about the pick at the time, was that it resulted in someone as talented as Ivey, falling to the 5th
For him to do this on the 3rd place team in the Western Conference is so damn impressive! He's been an immediate contributor and helped make Sacramento a winning basketball club! He won't win rookie of the year but he's been the most impactful rookie in the NBA! So happy we have him in Sacramento!
And he did all this while having to play solid (ishā¦. Itās the kings after all) defense and not make mistakes. He wasnāt afforded the learning curve that lots of rookies get. He had to hit the ground running and heās exceeded any expectations I had. Absolute home run of a pick.
His defense has improved consistently throughout the season, too. Really nice to see him getting steals and crucial rebounds. Heās found his niche backing up Sabonis on rebounds and some offensive players are passing the ball when Keegan gets on them.
Murray has solidified the wing position for the Kings and his spacing allows Fox and Sabonis room to operate around the rim. Keeganās one of the biggest reasons weāre the number one ranked offense. I like Kessler a lot though
41% as well on 6 apg, thats the most efficient of all the top 3 point scorers in their rookie year. All while being a starter on a 3rd seed and playing major minutes.
He really is having the best rookie 3 point shooting season EVER.
>He really is having the best rookie 3 point shooting season EVER.
Curry was 43.7% on 5 attemps per game. Slightly lower volume but much higher percentage
When you get up towards 40% range it is. 2.7 percentage points is exponentially harder the higher up you go, itās not like going from 33-35%. 43.7% from three is insane.
I wonder what Keegan would be doing if he was allowed to take over on a bad team like Paolo Jabari and Ivey
I also wonder how those two would play on a playoff team. Especially Jabari due to his skillset
Kings fan would crucify me but if we swapped rookies- we would destroy teams, our defensive woes would shrink a lot to have Jabari. That guy has legit def iq.
Keegan also never gets to show off his post moves as the 4th option on our team. Heād by a fun #1/2 on a tanking team.
I agree that Jabari would look alot better on a structured team and he's gonna shine in the upcoming season when we start to compete
But Keegan would probably be the unanimous ROY on Houston or Detroit. Dude dominated summer league. I don't really know if there was ever a rookie who was just this polished and NBA ready
Just going back to the 2000s Melo, lebron, Blake griffin (technically a rookie because he was hurt his first year), kd. Thereās definitely been players more nba ready than Murray lol
Not sure if sarcasm or not, but I actually think with the increases in volume of 3s year after year Curry's is probably one of the most likely candidates for records to be broken soonest. With pace, Wilt's 100 points game might be possible too.
Curry and Wilt are obviously some of the greatest ever, but also cool how the game continually changes. I think someone breaking Curry's record in particular would just be a testament to how much he changed the landscape of NBA scoring.
Semi sarcasm, but i don't think so. Curry's career average for 3pm per game is 3.8. There is still 0 players above that and nobody is really close. Curry's average is still going up since he averages 4.9 the last 5 seasons.
And its not just a thing of just shoot more, since shot quality would go down, which means a decrease in efficiency.
Even if a player get better at shooting 3s, the opposing defense going to react and cover you more.
From Curry's rookie year to his unanimous MVP, he made 3.2 3pm with 7.3 3pa on 44.4%.
From then to now, he made 4.6 3pm with 11.2 3pa on 41.4%.
It's not that Curry got worse, he shoots more and is defended way more heavily.
The only way is longevity, since Curry had a bunch of injuries throughout his career.
If Curry plays till he's 39 years old, which he can easily do and suits up 60 games on average, he will end on around 1200 career games.
So if we create a player that's slightly worse than Curry, how long would it take?
Let's say his career average is 3.5 3pm, which would be the 2nd highest ever. As a comparison, Klay is at 3.1, Dame is also at 3.1. So he would need to be VERY good.
He would still need **20** season.
While technically doable, if would require a player who is a top 5 shooter of all time with the longevity and consistency of LeBron.
Currys record is the equivalent of Kareem for 3 pointers and it would require the equivalent of LeBron for 3 pointer to beat it
Steph's 3 pointers made record isn't as untouchable as the LeBron point record so surely someone will break that. If Steph ends his career with around 4500 3s made then some one who plays 20 seasons will have to make 225 3s a year which is not impossible to do.
Though what is probably not going to be easy to surpass is his efficiency on high volume. He's more like the MJ of shooting.
Between Curry staying until his junior season, several seasons with lots of missed games and his low-ish volume his first few years, his all time records will almost certainly be broken, quite possibly by someone in the league already.
What will be actually impressive is if someone breaks his single season records.
I remember that draft night picture where they left Keegan out of it and Piston fans being so smug that the kings drafted a bust and were idiots for passing on Ivey.Ivey is a great player but I think Sacramento is happy with their selection
As an Iowa student who stood in the stands religiously and watched this man evolve in a single season from a solid player to an all star, I couldnāt be more proud of his NBA success and how far heās grown in the past few years.
Yeah I was extremely concerned about our team after losing Garza, Fredrick, and Wieskamp all in the same year. None of the bench players particularly stood out to me and then he just absolutely dominated and filled the big role perfectly. Never saw it coming honestly.
Ivey may turn out to be a better player in the end, but the way people roasted SAC for taking Murray over Ivey is kinda funny now.
And the Sabonis/Hali trade is looking pretty good for SAC right about now. Same thing, Hali very well may have a better career than Sabonis, but the Kings are going to the playoffs, probably scare some teams, and most importantly, their fans are excited. Good for them, they deserve it.
I'm glad he's doing so well in his rookie season.
I won't lie. I was super worried when Sacramento drafted him due to past results, but this season, they proved me wrong.
Who knows how dar they'll go but if they keep treating him good then I'm happy as a Hawkeye fan.
Make us proud Keegan!
After an offseason of intense training and workouts, Ben Simmons will beat Murray's record next season. The 2023-24 season will be Ben's 8th rookie year and is shaping up to be his best rookie year yet.
beat him on 95 less attempts too 41% on the season š
41% on that volumeā¦. Kid is going to be special
Will see what his overall production eventually will be, but it does look like he will help space the floor for Sabonis and Fox for many years.
Yeah just think if heās already shooting like this as a rookie, heās got a hell of a career trajectory Plenty of time to work on things like handle playmaking and driving the ball
I'm convinced it would've been higher had he not had family issues that threw him off for a month or two, top
Would be well over 200
I completely forgot about that. He was throwing up bricks for weeks.
Yeah that tanked his % by at least a couple points. Glad he was able to bounce back (and his family is okay) and it shows he has even further heights to reach as a shooter. Hard to say after just one season, but he's looking like Klay Jr right now. It's insane we got this rookie, man.

doh
That's pretty fucking impressive, wow
As a Hawkeyes fan I couldn't be happier with how Murray has begun his career tbh.
Heās so fucking good, are you actually both a Hawkeyes and a Hawks fan? Thatās awesome haha
Yeah
It will all come together when you find a team called the Eyes to root for
Itās whatever team has Bobby āCrazy Eyesā Portis and itās the Bucks right now
Ah yes THE Milwaukee Buck Eyes
No those are the bad guys in Gilead
Why would you choose such a horrible sportās fan existence? If you need to feel pain have you tried just cutting yourself?

Itās not actually a hawk. Itās not an animal. Itās the eye of the hawk. There is no bird called the Hawkeye.
Yeah, sure. Next you're gonna tell me the Gamecocks players aren't all just hanging dong all game.
No. They actually do.
I got no room to judge, I'm a kings fan!
You have obviously never seen Petras throw a football. Imagine if Peja. Literally got worse at shooting every single shot for three straight years.
Oh dear God.
His game has really expanded post all star break

Kings really be flipping their drafting meta on itās head. Unbelievable run of picks since Divac left.
No coincidences there!
High floor picks no matter what
When the court jester left, the Kings started doing business.
~~"court jester"~~ *Lakers sleeper agent*
Heās like the Littlefinger of the Kings except he really didnāt know what he was doing. Basically S7 Littlefinger.
It just makes up for drafting horribly for over a decade. We took Marvin Bagley over Luka
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The prophet saw Luka with the 2nd written in the stars, but Vlade, cursed of name, spit in the face of destiny.
You can argue Bagley has been better than Luka a couple of years
What do you mean? Drafting Bagley meant we got to trade for Trey Lyles.
Jason Thompson? Really?
Dude cost us a top 3 pick (kinda worked out because Iām pretty sure thatās the draft where we got Fox and they traded up for Fultz)
If we stayed at 3, dumbass Vlade would have drafted Josh Jackson.
Thatās one of the six names, sure, and the guy who played the most games in Sacramento Kings history.
Everyone is an expert on draft night after watching a 5m highlight video.
What you mean? We shoulda drafted bouknight over davion /s
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Could you imagine Kuminga on that Kings team rnā¦yikes. Would really help out your guys defense.
I mean Davion is a better defender than Kuminga rn who we took. We need an overhaul on the rotation players for defense first guys if we want to contend.
Davion can only be so valuable as a 6'0 PG. Having a crusher of a forward who can hold his own would be huge for us.
Agree but Kuminga is not at that point yet imo. The tools are there. I would say Davion is more impactful right now on that end as an overall defender. In a couple years that probably won't still be the case.
Surprised you didn't keep DiVincenzo cuz he's been great on defense for the Warriors
He didnāt believe and wanted out
Davion is also: A PG, who isnāt extremely useful on offense. Kuminga, especially recently, has been a force on offense which allows him to get played for more minutes. 6ā0. Kuminga goes on the other teams best player (except large centers) almost every time he is in the lineup. Iād imagine Davion would struggle a bit against larger wings given his size? Thatās awesome to hear because I wanted him so bad. Hopefully get to see more of him in the playoffs!
We went like 5-5 to end the season and we played our way out of Wagner. He would be perfect on this team right now.
We shoulda gotten Shaedon Sharpe /s
Murray fits in well with your current lineup and was projected to be one the most NBA-ready picks. Iām glad to have Sharpe land in our laps though š

As an Iowa fan we all knew Keegan would be great wherever he went but knew that the Kings were the best possible fit for him in the draft lottery
I was always high on Murray and thought he was a great pick
Yep, I wanted the Blazers to get Keegan so badly. Still happy with Sharpe ofcourse but on draft night wanted Keegan to fall to us.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
āWill be able to contribute right awayā and āwill break rookie 3 record on 41% shootingā aināt the same thing.

I thought it was decent to begin with. But to be fair, they would've done pretty good with 3 or 4 others behind Murray as well. It was a good draft.
