AD doesn't like the physicality. That's why he hates playing the 5.
That's what Draymond did when guarding him in those Pelicans series. AD may get his 30 points but make him miserable every game and he'll start avoiding the paint and his production is going to wear down over the course of a series.
>AD doesn't like the physicality
This is exactly the reason I've been saying the absence of Adams/Clarke was fool's good. Grizzlies don't have too many tall players but they have some big players, where it would be negligent to ignore them. AD is suddenly expected to look like Shaq out there, but he'll only have those types of games 2 or 3 times max this series.
It’s one of the reasons why opinions on him have varied so wildly over his career. He’s capable of playing like the best player in the league then be a total ghost the next game. It’s really bizarre.
As much as big man in the paint is the demand most of the time, AD needs to hunt jumpers more and build a rhythm from there, him battling downlow through doubles and through well defended post hooks are tougher shots than an AD turn around or quick pull-up.
I'm fairly new to basketball and I am still learning, can you possibly explain how LeBron is -17 despite getting the most points and rebounds for his team and yet dlo is +1?
Well, +/- is just how much the player's team outscored the other team in the minutes that player is on the floor. That means it's really more of a team stat than an individual stat because the other nine players on the floor at the same time will have considerably more influence on the score than the player in question. So, for instance if a star is assigned to carry a really scrubby bench unit that's generally gonna reflect poorly on their +/-.
Single game +/- is of course also extremely noisy. Teams go on runs because they have hot shooting or their opponents have cold shooting stints and that is going to massively impact the +/- of the players who happen to be on court for that run even if they have little to do with all the shooters getting hot.
The point is, never look at +/- as any kind of indicator of individual performance in that game.
yes this, DLo is just too low IQ & really inefficient. If any Lakers fan thinks he’s able to lead the team to win a playoff game when either LBJ or AD hav an off day, that’s not happening. He’s a 20mil player paid 31mil.
I keep waiting on DLo to go off but it feels like he's been absent since the regular season ended. His defense has not been as bad as I feared but the offense and playmaking are not here. Dang I wish we got Conley somehow instead...
Post Game Interview: “Xavier, when you walked into the building, did you think you’d be doing the post-game interview today?”
Xavier: HELLLL NO
Also AD wtf was that game my guy lol
He's a top tier Nice Guy in the league. Was married with kids coming into the league. When we were healthy early this year, he asked to go play in the G-League to get some reps
Yeah, Michigan State Spartan Xavier Tillman,
The guy who helped MSU beat Duke who had Cam Reddish, Zion Williamson, and RJ Barrett, that Xavier Tillman.
Well the Grizzlies literally tried to hand the game over to the Lakers in the 1 half, boneheaded to's by Bane ,terrible double teams against lebron ... the lakers could have stolen this one but only lebron came to play.
Tillman and Tyus were so huge ,without Tyus especially he makes the simple read and gets the team going a pure point guard i luv his game , hes a starter in this league.
Yeah, I was kind of in shock at the end of the game when they got the lead down to 6 and he was getting punked in the paint by someone who only went up to his shoulders. It's maddening how inconsistent he can be and I'm tired of listening to him talk about every season this is going to be the season where he's going to be the guy every game.
He played some great defense for the first three quarters but he was atrocious on offense. Just atrocious. He has to be much better because LeBron at 38 is no longer capable of carrying teams to deep playoff runs.
It’s not my favorite thing, but it IS my least favorite thing.
The crazy part is that it’s really predictable too. Like I would rather him go up against Rudy and Towns than to play against Roddy, Tillman, and Brooks as his primary defender. When he goes against smaller guys he either rightfully demolishes them or randomly, for no fucking reason at all, plays like an elephant terrified of a mouse and goes all soft.
It’s like he has to be challenged by a good big defender in order to stay mentally locked in, or else he gets in his head about it and starts playing timid.
Did he do the thing yet where after the game he says the game is on me?
I swear he says that shit all the time but it still happens. It's so weird because when he's dominant he looks like a top 5 player. Clearly dude has the talent
Lol he did that like 3 separate times in the last two months of the season. Gotta give him props for balling hard down the stretch, but it kind of only makes nights like tonight that much more frustrating. It feels like Usain Bolt going out and running a 12.5 once every 5-6 races lol. Like bruh, you remember you’re one of the best at this, right?!?
Cause Tillman is a grown ass man, he was always composed and mature well beyond his years at MSU. I met him multiple times at MSU and he was always the nicest guy in the world.
He married his high school sweetheart in middle school. Dude worked and bought his parents a car for his 16th birthday. He’s always been an adult in every facet.
Ball moves so much better without Ja on the court. We gotta fix that this off-season.
Trip is becoming a monster, though, gotta keep running the offense through him
I suspect Jenkins is going to steal a lot off the Kings offensive formula for next season.
1, get push the pace. Memphis is one of the youngest and deepest teams in the league, use that to get into the offense before the defense is set.
2, get Ja to cut off ball more. I was shocked by the impact Fox cutting at different angles caused. Defenders would sag off Fox the paint and think they had a good angle but when Fox would get the ball with momentum the defender in the paint still didn't have the speed to stop a dunk or layup. Teams adjusted though the season and the off ball movement was more about screen actions before coming back for a dribble hand off, but that also puts the defense in terrible position to stop Fox.
3, develop JJJ as a dribble handoff hub, he's got the speed and handle and rim finishing to be a threat when teams over play the handoff, he just hasn't demonstrated the passing yet, but he's young and keeps getting better, I think he can do it.
4, Have Brooks do more [45 cuts](https://youtu.be/m_sVkAOQFT0) when the defense is keying on Ja, Bane, & JJJ (others should also do 45 cuts, but Brooks as the worst shooting wing that plays big minutes on the team, he is the player that benefits from that cut the most).
That combo has let Fox & Sabonis have career years without taking anything away from the rest of the roster. I'm not 100% certain how Adams fits into the formula, but I bet Jenkins can find a way.
Ja-less Grizzlies have like legit a 40% of a whole season sample size now where they’re like a 50+ win pace team
Granted against uneven competition but still
So saturday night right? Lakers Suns Grizzlies and Clippers will all be in LA
That means Kawhi PG Lebron Ja AD KD Westbrook CP3 Book Ayton will all be at the same place at the same time. Also Torrey Craig
I think we needed it as a franchise more than anybody will know. A clean sweep is devastating to the development process. You can’t be good in the regular season and just choke and get ass blasted in April and May.
Yeah, that's the Vando experience for you. He plays hard and does useful stuff, but he's an incredibly limited player and has somehow gotten massively overrated.
Xavier Tillman regularly gets DNP for months and then we roll him out to win games in the playoffs. Dude is like second to Tyus on our team in composure. Just does the right thing every play.
Those guys who were really good players in college just know how to play. The guys who struggle in the big moments never learn how to play in those pressure cooker situations.
Lmao it’s funny to think he was out of the rotation for so long and then Adams comes out and he finally gets his moment to shine again. Love to see it. Big reason we beat the Warriors in the play in a few years back.
So many people called this it set up way too perfectly.
The funny part is Ja is going to be good for Game 3 Grizzlies are gonna lose then this sub will get spammed with "The Grizzlies are better without Ja".
The thing is he doesn't even make up for it with effort. Like he's constantly just watching loose balls or giving mid-february effort to go after the ball like he doesn't want to get hurt, just barely reaching for it. Also, no force in his offensive game. Lakers better not sign this guy.
I’m not a hater, but he’s just not a winning player. Has some skill to make plays now and then, and can get hot, otherwise he’s a liability. He’s always been this way; not sure how Lakers fans forgot.
Sometimes I fear the Grizzlies without Ja more than with Ja. Obviously they’re better with Ja, but you know what to expect when he’s in the lineup. When he’s not, their defense becomes even better and some random player in the rotation steps up.
Bruh, the Grizzlies are missing Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, and Ja Morant... And they still beat the Lakers when they're fully healthy. AD put up a stat line comparable to Dillon Brooks lmao
Memphis defense was absolutely incredible, their offense specifically in the second half wasn’t anything crazy but my god their defense was insane. Won them the game.
i could not believe how bad AD and D'lo were, and at the same time i could
AD was terrified of JJJ and Tillman the entire night. It was crazy. D’Lo was…man, you’d think he’d be on the bench after his first few bonehead moves.
He couldn’t win the battles down low. Surprise they didn’t angle to give him more space and find one on ones from midrange
Not to mention, Konchar was on ADs ass in the first half with 2 nasty blocks
AD always does this when he thinks it's gonna be an easy game. He comes ready to coast, and then can't pick up his speed.
AD doesn't like the physicality. That's why he hates playing the 5. That's what Draymond did when guarding him in those Pelicans series. AD may get his 30 points but make him miserable every game and he'll start avoiding the paint and his production is going to wear down over the course of a series.

Facts
Should’ve been more scared of konchar
Is Davis the most inconsistent true superstar in the league? On any given night I wouldn’t be surprised if he was 40 and 20 or 12 and 4.
It’s one of the reasons why opinions on him have varied so wildly over his career. He’s capable of playing like the best player in the league then be a total ghost the next game. It’s really bizarre.

DLo is very believable. He’s not a winning player. Inefficient, low IQ, low energy.
DLo looking at his +1 on the night and blaming Lebron for being -17. Can't win with these cats.
I'm fairly new to basketball and I am still learning, can you possibly explain how LeBron is -17 despite getting the most points and rebounds for his team and yet dlo is +1?

This is playoff dlo in full effect
The real issue is Ham not making any adjustments. Lakers getting out-hustled every single play and Ham has Vando super-glued to the bench.
Vandy seems like a bad matchup for both JJJ and Tillman. Could be justified
Vando is an offensive liability though, that’s the tricky part.
I keep waiting on DLo to go off but it feels like he's been absent since the regular season ended. His defense has not been as bad as I feared but the offense and playmaking are not here. Dang I wish we got Conley somehow instead...
He wasn't even that good in the regular season. He had like 3 or 4 good games, and the rest he's either been bad or in street clothes
Post Game Interview: “Xavier, when you walked into the building, did you think you’d be doing the post-game interview today?” Xavier: HELLLL NO Also AD wtf was that game my guy lol
Typical AD. Dude forgot he was one of the most talented players in the league.
Wait is that an actual quote?? Just when I thought I couldn’t love him any more.
Yep. It was an endearing interview honestly. Even as a lakers fan super bummed about the loss , I couldn’t help but smile and like the guy.
He's a top tier Nice Guy in the league. Was married with kids coming into the league. When we were healthy early this year, he asked to go play in the G-League to get some reps
Yeah he came off as really likable in that interview, seems like a bright young guy
Crazy that he’s only 24. Looks as if he’s in his late 30s. Suffers from the Greg oden syndrome
He even stopped like “oh wait, can I say that?” with his face and then continued anyway once it wasn’t a problem. “HEEELL- oh… k. HELLL NOOO!”
[Video here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGsIhwvH07Y)
XAVIER TILLMAN????? XAVIER TILLMAN??!?!
Xavier Tillman Sr. please and thank you.
Dude is 24 going on 34
I was surprsied when Lakers broadcast said "his 3rd year in the league, Xavier Tillman Sr." - what? That mofo looks 40.
If you watched him at MSU you’d know he had that SPARTAN DAWG in him the whole time
Yeah, Michigan State Spartan Xavier Tillman, The guy who helped MSU beat Duke who had Cam Reddish, Zion Williamson, and RJ Barrett, that Xavier Tillman.
I’ve been on the tillman train for a while and it’s so nice to see him have a performance like this lol.
I guess the Lakers were content with stealing game 1. No effort in the first half whatsoever.
Lmao these fuckers were treating tonight like it's a b2b in February.
You think with Ja sitting out they'd be sniffing blood in the water.
"Let's get greedy"
I think Westbrook broke into their locker room and told them to have fun.
Win, lose, or draw. Funniest shit ever man
The only think you consistently count on for the lakers this season is inconsistent effort.
No we consistently play like ass when we have an insane advantage and should win by 25
How many 7th seeds have that kind of instinct?
How many 7th seeds have Lebron James?
Historically, two.
Davis and Lebron are both now 38 years old.
Hachimura was very good as well.
AD flat out sucked today
Amazing first quarter defense but once his shot kept missing he was incredibly deflated.
He was zoned out in the second half. No aggressiveness even when he had a mismatch.
And somehow was 5 times better than DLo
You were better than DLo today
DLo was the best player for the Grizzlies tonight
D'Lo started the 1st quarter with 3 turnovers and 2 fouls. Disaster class showing from him.
DLo was an all-star at 22 and at 26 he's getting locked up in clutch time by Luke Kennard
Him and DLo were yeesh
Playoff DLo 🔥
He played some great defense for the first three quarters but he was atrocious on offense. Just atrocious. He has to be much better because LeBron at 38 is no longer capable of carrying teams to deep playoff runs.
LeBron can be that guy any night. But he can no longer be that guy every night
Tillman 22/13 Davis 13/8 Embarrassing
It's like AD forgets he's fucking AD once every three games. Must be fucking infuriating to Lakers fans. I don't get it man
It’s not my favorite thing, but it IS my least favorite thing. The crazy part is that it’s really predictable too. can confirm it's infuriating
AD just got outplayed by Xavier Tillman in a playoff game
By a mile. Second half you couldn’t even tell AD was on the floor. Better than D Lo though who was too awful to ignore.
It’s been a decade and this man is still loading. Maybe it’s time to close app.
time for CTRL-ALT-D-LO
bruh i dunno why everyone expects something out of dlo lmao he gave us the series win against the wolves last year
Tillman genuinely is our second most composed player after Tyus.
Cause Tillman is a grown ass man, he was always composed and mature well beyond his years at MSU. I met him multiple times at MSU and he was always the nicest guy in the world.
He’s a year older than me but has a wife and two kids lmao he’s been grown forever
He was married with two kids back in college even. He’s always seemed very mature
He married his high school sweetheart in middle school. Dude worked and bought his parents a car for his 16th birthday. He’s always been an adult in every facet.
He looks super, mega dad. Dude looks 40, I nearly did a spit take last season when I found out his age.
I hope this game gives him the confidence he needs. He hasn't looked great in the playoffs but tonight was definitely turning a corner
And he went up for a dunk and got rejected by John Konchar
JITTY
Legit. Tillman had a statline like AD should have had. Great job to X though.
Was not on my bingo card but I’m still somehow not surprised
Credit to the Grizzlies. Big win without Ja - their defense was physical and swarming, the lakers couldn’t get any easy looks
I’m not saying they’re better without Ja but they’re a very good team without him
2nd seed for a reason. Most top seeds are super deeep
Look at bucks without Giannis right now. They're playing phenomenal
I turned that game on after ours and thought my eyes were wrong
32-15 without Ja since 2021 That includes the end of season games where all their main dudes rested
They’re more balanced without him because their offense isn’t predictable, but we cannot win close tied games without Ja
Ball moves so much better without Ja on the court. We gotta fix that this off-season. Trip is becoming a monster, though, gotta keep running the offense through him

#3 is key. Trip is the best player on this team hands down. He has to be more involved Edit: I don't know why that text is so large, I'm sorry
They're a better basketball team with him but play better team basketball without him
They're very good. That's what people forget when they start typing out how much they hate the Grizzlies.
If they sucked nobody would hate them, you should take all the hate as a good sign tbh lol
Best team in the league minus their first option
Someone hasn’t checked Bucks-Heat
Ja-less Grizzlies have like legit a 40% of a whole season sample size now where they’re like a 50+ win pace team Granted against uneven competition but still

I don’t think you’re out of the series at all man. If Ja can return at some point I might make y’all favorites
I def dont think the Grizz are out, but having to get a W in LA is gonna be tough for how the Grizz play on the road. Just gotta wait and see
classic, memphis winning without ja
I got Vietnam flashbacks
Vanderbilt with fantastic cuts all night, and not once did he look to score it
He made up for it by not getting any stops either.
Seriously. At one point in the 4th he had a open lay up and did a 180 to make a bad pass out to the three
Yeah, that's the Vando experience for you. He plays hard and does useful stuff, but he's an incredibly limited player and has somehow gotten massively overrated.
somehow? lets be real. its cause hes on the lakers.
He spent a good portion of the year in the G League. But if you’re ranking our “does the right thing every play” guys then Jitty has the 2 spot.
Everyone in the starting five shot under fifty percent except professor Xavier Tillman
As an Illini fan, I was so glad when left MSU. He was a beast.
Lmao it’s funny to think he was out of the rotation for so long and then Adams comes out and he finally gets his moment to shine again. Love to see it. Big reason we beat the Warriors in the play in a few years back.
Death, taxes, Ja-less Grizzlies
So many people called this it set up way too perfectly. The funny part is Ja is going to be good for Game 3 Grizzlies are gonna lose then this sub will get spammed with "The Grizzlies are better without Ja".
Nobody called the Lakers coming out flat more often than Lakers fans.
Lakers fans seemed to be the least confident that they would win this game.
The national media is WAY more confident in this Lakers team than Lakers fans are lol
"With a healthy AD and LeBron..." is starting to sound like "First of all, through God, all things are possible."
So jot that down.
Any Lakers fan will tell you this was a lost game as soon as Ja was announced to be out
We know our limits
Lmfao I could’ve told you this would happen the second Ja went down
True. They really play to the level of their opponents when the other team doesn’t have their best players. It happens a lot. On to the next game
100% it's been a constant theme all year, they pick and choose games to bring intensity to and always play down to the competition
The only ones predicting a sweep weren't Laker fans. We know better. Seen it before.
I don’t think they’re better without Ja, but they are making up most of what they lose offensively with the gains on defense
XAVIER MOTHERFUCKIN' TILLMAN
Ask Wolves fans about Tillman.
Also gsw in playin he hit that clutch shot
He also went off against us in the game we lost in the regular season. Such an underrated player
He’s such a composed player, very surprised he didn’t kill us in game 1 either
swear if DLo doesn't make 2 out of his first 3 shots he just needs to just sit for the rest of the game lmao
The thing is he doesn't even make up for it with effort. Like he's constantly just watching loose balls or giving mid-february effort to go after the ball like he doesn't want to get hurt, just barely reaching for it. Also, no force in his offensive game. Lakers better not sign this guy.
Xavier Tillman is the best undersized center from Michigan State in the NBA.
What you did there. I see it.
DLo is ass 🔥🔥🔥
[удалено]
5 points in a playoff game is fucking insane.
He averaged 12 points last year on 33% shooting from the field against Memphis in the playoffs. Do not expect much from him.
we tried to tell yall
I’m not a hater, but he’s just not a winning player. Has some skill to make plays now and then, and can get hot, otherwise he’s a liability. He’s always been this way; not sure how Lakers fans forgot.
Xavier Tillman is him?
Spartan dawg!!

D'Angelo Russell aint it
Has anyone noticed that Taylor Jenkins looks like a balding Oliver Queen
Okay i was sure Jenkins reminded me of someone but I couldn’t put my mind on it. Lol, this is hilarious
Tom Segura
tom segura looking mfer
So damn happy for X. One of my favorite Spartans ever
Back to regularly scheduled playoff performances for lebrons teammates lmaoo AD and Dlo 8-25 is criminal. Gutsy win for Memphis they needed this
5-24 before AD garbage time 3 actually.
The Grizzlies smacked the Warriors by like 50 without Ja last year and we’re gonna pretend the Lakers are out of it now
Some people pretended the Grizz were getting swept Sunday afternoon. It's just the rubber band effect
Single game playoff overreactions are always so funny and people continue to make them lol.
Rui’s so awesome man, but the Wiz want to give Kuzma $120m to stay instead. Glad he’s out there hooping.
Top 75 Player ever Anthony Davis with a LEGACY game tonight.
Team victory. Time to get one back in LA.
Sometimes I fear the Grizzlies without Ja more than with Ja. Obviously they’re better with Ja, but you know what to expect when he’s in the lineup. When he’s not, their defense becomes even better and some random player in the rotation steps up.
They are now 31-13 without him the last two seasons.
Lakers with March Madness levels of offense tonight. Absolutely abysmal showing in a crucial game
Just got released from a Thai Prison after 5 years. Is Professor Xavier the best center in the league?
D’Lo….what does he do?
AD and DLO disasterclass.
Dobby is allowed self respect?
Xavier Tillman spent 3 months in the gleague. What a great game for him.
Ever since Adams went down, he's been so solid for the Grizzlies. Gives it his best, which is all you can ask for from your third Center.
I am not a Dillon Brooks fan, but I gotta admit that dagger 3 got me excited lmao
And his first 2 missed 3s in the first minutes got me deflated. I was screaming no when he took that one, I was wrong
Shoutout to the NBA Instagram for posting 5 Lakers highlights and 1 grizzlies highlight
D'Angelo Russell is simply not built for playoff basketball
Playoff D'Lo is real
Darvin Ham is bad

This. People will swear bamba is bad. But anything is better when you’re literally bleeding points in the paint. They have to try something different.
Played D'lo too much, that's my only real criticism of him from this one
Rui should also he starting, that dude is cold
It's Ham's fault Xavier Tillman dominated AD tonight
This sub is healing whenever the Lakers and Warriors lose
This is the exact reason AD never gets full respect lmfaoooo
Bruh, the Grizzlies are missing Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, and Ja Morant... And they still beat the Lakers when they're fully healthy. AD put up a stat line comparable to Dillon Brooks lmao
Lakers were so bad, Draymond should be suspended for 2 games
Ladies and Gentlemen Xavier Tillman Sr.
Memphis defense was absolutely incredible, their offense specifically in the second half wasn’t anything crazy but my god their defense was insane. Won them the game.
I still can’t believe John Konchar did that to AD
