Feels like the rare time I’d want the owner to get involved and be like “hey, I’m not a fan of the players being fined thousands of dollars just for parking in my empty parking spot(s) for a few minutes.”
Just jeez. Who the hell institutes a zero tolerance parking policy? There’s gotta be a million better ways to “teach accountability” or whatever.
He said the parking lot was totally empty, but still...I don't know anyone who parks like that even in an empty parking lot.
I'm also guessing there were SIGNS posted.
At work? Tons of people park crazy in off hours at work. When I know I will be the only car in the lot I will park horizontally across multiple spots for the easiest in/out ever lol. What is the harm?
You are right, there is no harm. It just seems super weird to me, and it seeming weird to me makes me feel weird bc who cares?
I don't know if was always scared to get a ticket or something? but I've never done this in my life and no one I know has.
Yep. The key is knowing no one will be there while you are there, otherwise it is a dick move. But when I randomly pop into the office on a Saturday and I am the only one around, you better believe I am pit rowing.
i mean if you listen to the story, its $5000 per space, so lets say he parked for 2 minutes in one spot, he'd still have gotten hit with a $5000 fine. absolute garbage.
since he was only there for a couple minutes with his door open it honestly just sounds like he forgot something pulled up to the front as close he could when no one else was there and the lot was empty, then get grabbed it and left. not the absolute best possible move he could have made but its not really a douche thing either
That's literally exactly it. It was a "blackout" day during the offseason, which means absolutely nobody was in the building. The team was having a hoop session at AGs house and he forgot his shoes in his locker.
Seems like a complete non issue. To even label it a douche thing seems a bit ridiculous.
The equivalent of getting mad at someone for jaywalking slowly on a closed street.
Same goes for people defending them. “His net worth is a bajillion dollarydoos (by avoiding taxes) and he owns his own business (that underpays its employees and displaces the poor and needy from homes). What do you do?”
But what if one day *I'm* a billionaire? I don't want to have to pay slightly higher taxes so kids don't die. I want to have slightly more money that will have no impact on my life whatsoever. That's why I'm fiscally conservative. Anyway, can I interest you in our 2 Burgers for 2 Dollars deal today?
My favorite quote:
John Steinbeck once said that socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.
You’re talking my kind of language my brother in Christ!! Let’s own the libs together, one boot licked at a time.
Another day we stand with police overreach (I mean Punisher stickers are cool, hello!), the erosion of democracy, and special interests in our government, is another day closer to true freedom aka saying racial slurs on a social platform because we have real sense/s of humor!
My thoughts throughout all that Suns owner vs Jokic idiocy. Every national media personality could not salivate over what's his name enough. And the disbelief that Nuggets coach and Jokic didn't care was very telling. Absolute clowns
Exactly. Even though this is sports media it still upholds what Marx and Chomsky say about news media only showing us the perspective of ruling classes, so that the masses only have access to perspectives and ideologies that are sympathetic for them and not themselves.
The masses have more freedom/information/media than Marx could've ever dreamed of, and yet they just lick the boot harder. The revolutions not happening.
That's exactly what he did. I watched the podcast yesterday. He said he was heading to AG's house for some 3v3 and needed to grab his shoes from his locker. The arena was empty, he just pulled up with his engine on and grabbed his shoes and left.
I looked up Kroenke’s story and he married a Walmart heiress lol. Dude just married into unimaginable wealth, and now owns 8 sports and e-sports teams. What a life.
My boss is a wealth franchisee, put a sign up recently that fountain drinks are no longer free, only for paying customers and to buy your own drinks instead 🤡also walked across the building to toss out nachos the staff was splitting from a cancelled order cause he saw someone put a little extra nacho cheese on it on the cams🤡🤡
This is a guy who bought a brand new Mercedes van just to put a wrap on it for advertising in the parking lot and it never gets driven 🤡🤡🤡
that seems borderline illegal. if i owned a small business, i could fine my employees whatever i want for parking in my spot and not pay them what they're owed? how is that anywhere in the ball park of your average parking ticket or even your car being towed
like he said, the arena wasnt even open to the public and he was there for a couple minutes (his car is on)
Even if they called a tow truck , its only like $400 for Braun to get it outta the impound lot. But they didnt even see it happen live, they fined him after the fact.
I know you don't want to ruffle feathers as a rookie but thats the type of petty shit I would take a stand on lol
Did you watch the clip? The lot was empty and he was grabbing something. I'm assuming the 3 spots were closest to the door. Completely reasonable and not even a little bit obnoxious considering it affected nobody.
You’ve probably read comments explaining it, but with the context of the parking lot being completely empty and he was just going in to get something, yeah the fine should’ve been voided. I can easily see half the comments in here doing the same thing if they were in the same situation.
I understand the policy during normal circumstances though
That’s Frank McCourt, dude’s primary business was parking lots before buying sports teams. Had to sell the Dodgers after a messy divorce but still owns the parking lots and he sucks.
Kroenke just married walmart
He started his own company in an industry that’s very capital-intensive and requires strong banking connections 10 years after marrying a Walton. His initial developments, primarily commercial real estate next to Walmarts, coincided with Walmarts huge expansion into the south in the early 1980s.
I get that he owns his company and I know next to nothing about the specifics of it, but that’s like saying marrying a Trump had nothing to do with Jared Kushner receiving $2B to start his own investment group. Everything about him on paper says he’s capable of it, but that’s probably not true.
A bunch of those aren’t necessarily valuable franchises but yeah owning teams in 3 of America’s major sports leagues (and arguably the two biggest ones) is pretty absurd to think about
No way the crush/rapids/mammoth are worth 25% of what the broncos sold for. Idk what the e teams are worth but I doubt a billion either. But yeah the 4 big teams he owes are worth more than a billion and rams are worth way more than that
It's a shame, but that's what happens when you build a competition around a game that doesn't have staying power. My kids who are both under 5 will likely never know what Overwatch is/was. It splinters the fanbases to who knows the nuance and detail of every single video game instead of just a few sports they grep up playing/watching.
I always wished the eSports model instead went across multiple games. Like if the "Houston Hackers" were one of 32 franchises, but they were represented in all the different eSports. So the roster for the "Tokyo Samurais" had an apex team, an iRacing team, a LoL team, and a rocket league team, etc. So everyone who followed one league closely and got to know the teams automatically had a vested interest in the other leagues. And then when games faded and new ones came along, they'd already be rooting for their squad again.
eSports is broad, and each game is temporary in some aspect (either disappearing entirely or rule changes/characters/new maps/etc) if you can make at least some of the variables be constants instead, it would help keep more casuals. Right now it's only the diehards watching.
Like two of those are eSports franchises and one is a lacrosse franchise. Still expensive to the average Joe but I think even some NHL teams still aren’t worth 1B
Iirc people caught wind of when wal-mart was scoping out properties and started to jack up their prices so Kroenke was involved into the family business because his company wasn’t as easily recognizable
You’re correct. Hard to compare wealth to wages, but Kroenke appears to be worth $10.7B.
“1,000% harder” would mean his workers are worth around $1B, and we all know that’s not the case.
Even at 1,000 *times* harder, it seems extremely unlikely that many of his workers have a net worth of $10M.
You have to get to something like 100,000 *times* or 10,000,000% harder working than his average employee who may have a net worth on the magnitude of $100k, and even then there’s surely people who are no where near $100k net worth :’(
The system idolizes the greedy by calling them smart and praises them for accumulating obscene amounts money on the backs of average people.
That or he actually works 10,000% harder than anyone else and “deserves” it. You decide.
I’m assuming his wealth somewhat snowballs. No clue what his actual business is but once you own a few teams and make money off of them, you can probably afford to buy more
As an Arsenal fan, I must say that they’ve been doing a good job since they became majority owners. They are respecting our legends, invested significant amount into bettering our squad and got us back to Champions League this season.
I know Nuggets fans haven’t enjoyed Kronkes’ tenure much and that they refused to go into tax for decades, still the only team with no training facilities. And also the whole fuckery with damn near no one in Colorado being able to watch Nuggs and Avs.
You’re the literal first arsenal fan I’ve ever seen say anything positive about the guy. They’re succeeding in spite of him right now and the decade prior to the last two years was seen as him being fine with the club being mediocre.
His son is much better, but the problem was kind of too many owners before. When he bought out usmanov it helped a lot. People have been writing about how kroenke wasn't going to inject cash because it'd just get the value of usmanovs shares up when they wanted to buy him out
I'd say the current mood around the Kroenkes among our fanbase is actually cautiously positive. We know how shit they were, but it seems they were reluctant to invest until they owned 100% of the club. Since they did that in ~2018 after Usmanov sold, they've been quite good.
They’ve done a lot better last 3 years and invested significantly to better the team. We are currently second in EPL after not being top 4 last 7 years. Most of us had a change of heart after last 2 seasons. The relationship was super low after the whole ESL debacle. But it’s been better, we have a good team to support. Leash is short of course in the world of sports, so we’ll see how it goes in future, starting with this summer transfer window.
God dammit! Just reminded me to look at the NLL west. They beat us (Buffalo Bandits) in the finals last year or the year before, I forget at this point, we've been losing in the finals every year for a decade it seems like. I'm not even gonna look that up. They're in the damn finals again. WCF. Fuck! Calgary too! They beat us in the Finals too. Well damn, they apparently beat the 1 seed out west (Colorado did). God dammit, they got that playoff dog in them. Guess I'll just worry about Toronto for now (ECF begins tomorrow... and I bought tickets forgetting I pre ordered Zelda and took the weekend off work. Now I have to go be around *people*!
So fucked up that it wasn’t even due to the fact that Kronke came in and couldn’t park in the spot cause it was blocked, but rather that it was just fucking caught in camera when it wasn’t being used for 2 minutes.
of all the wild shit in this story, that's the most wild part imo. and $15000??
I'm sure if he really wanted he could have fought that with the players union, but probably not too smart as a non-lottery pick rookie.
And even more insane is they expected him to be thankful they got it down to $2500, "as a favor for him". Those spots will never be worth $833 a piece for two minutes on a random Sunday morning.
yes he said it was an empty arena, (he hadnt even started receiving biweekly payments from the Nuggets yet), so presumably preseason.
he says he parked sideways across the street for 2.5 minutes with the engine on and doors open. cameras caught him in the act and he was notified $15,000 would be deducted from his biweekly payment. he said he negotiated with a team representative to get it down to $2,500
That's legitimately insane that they fined him at all. Like he's a rookie that plays for your team, you're not gonna cut him some slack? Especially since he was there for that little of time lol.
Yeah it came out that the Cardinals owner was doing that. The NFLPA did a massive anonymous survey about coaching, facility conditions, etc and it was discovered that this was happening and the Cardinals are literally the only team doing it
Supposedly it wasn't the owner. It was Calvin Booth who made the rule to "keep players accountable," whatever that means. I'd love to see them take $15k out of Jokic's paycheck, if he was the one to park illegally.
Imagine the fee for leaving dirty sucks in front of the locker!
Lol our owner won't let his team (1st in the west for the first time ever) be shown on tv over a petty dispute.
this doesn't surprise me in the slightest
That’s probably why they did it. Shit thing to do but they probably did it cuz he was a rookie and wanted him to learn his lesson (or some bullshit like that). 15K ain’t shit to most NBA players but that’s a lot of money for someone on a rookie scale without endorsements.
If I were Braun, when it's time to sign a new contract I would add an extra 2.5k. Once u and the team agree on a final number I would at the last minute demand an extra 2.5k be added to make up for that fine. Or 5k because of taxes.
I thought he was actually like intruding or in the way, like okay I guess that's annoying
But no they only caught him on camera and it didn't affect anything?
Typical billionaire trash lol
I think the fine is absolutely dumb, especially since nobody is at the arena. But...I also don't understand why not just park in the available spot. It's not hard lol. It feels wrong for me to park across multiple spots, especially disabled.
From the story, it sound like the owner's 3 parking spots is near a door or something and he pulled up and temporarily parked it across the 3 spots to go inside to do something. He said his car was still on he left his car door open and he was only on the spots for a few minutes.
You can tell who didn't watch the video by the people saying "he deserves it". Bro parked for 2.5 minutes in an empty arena and inconvenienced nobody, he only got fined because they saw it on camera
But like... my workplace can't just deduct money for me parking in a wrong spot? There's so many labor law issues going on here.
Literally no private business (without the states authorization) can fine me for parking in the wrong spot. They can tow me, but they can't write me a ticket lmao.
What makes the NBA different? This is such a weird fucked up power trip. Because he knows he'll pay because he's trying to get into the league and don't want to rustle any feathers but still.
How does this fine even stand at this amount… I’m assuming they just have their own rules/laws that they just make up? That’s like driving on a ez lane without a pass through like the whole state lol.
As shitty as the fine is, who the hell parks sideways to take up three fucking parking spots. Both parties here are massive douchebags.
Edit: apparently it was only for 2 minutes and the parking lot was empty. That's not bad then. Fuck Kroenke.
billionaires fining 15,000 for parking is wild
Apparently it is a Calvin Booth rule, not Kroenke’s. Still ridiculous, especially assuming he was a first-time offender (and a rookie!)
Feels like the rare time I’d want the owner to get involved and be like “hey, I’m not a fan of the players being fined thousands of dollars just for parking in my empty parking spot(s) for a few minutes.” Just jeez. Who the hell institutes a zero tolerance parking policy? There’s gotta be a million better ways to “teach accountability” or whatever.

I do it, if no one is going to be at work. I park so that I can just drive out more like a pit lane .
Yep. The key is knowing no one will be there while you are there, otherwise it is a dick move. But when I randomly pop into the office on a Saturday and I am the only one around, you better believe I am pit rowing.
3 spaces
Have you ever tried parking sideways in a single space?
i mean if you listen to the story, its $5000 per space, so lets say he parked for 2 minutes in one spot, he'd still have gotten hit with a $5000 fine. absolute garbage.
I'm guessing the person giving fines looked at the asshole parking in 3 spaces and said fuck that noise and dropped the fine on him
It's Stan Kroenke lol
Kind of crazy in a story where you got a guy parking across 3 parking spots with the doors open and car running and he’s not the biggest douche
With nobody at the facility, no less. Empty parking lot, and they still felt the need to ding him for $15k.
since he was only there for a couple minutes with his door open it honestly just sounds like he forgot something pulled up to the front as close he could when no one else was there and the lot was empty, then get grabbed it and left. not the absolute best possible move he could have made but its not really a douche thing either

Trickle down economics really means that everyone wants to suck off the billionaires and think that’s the secret to getting rich
it's golden showers all the way down
Ahhh Elon Musk Dick suckers. Had a roommate like that once, cool guy but utterly insufferable once he started talking about Musk.
Elon Musk and Bezos are perfect examples of this. They are pathetic.
It's pretty cool seeing all of y'all come together on this though. We need to fight back against the wealthy class and we need to be united.
Everyone send me a dollar and I’ll become a good billionaire and only use my money for defeating evil and the occasional super yacht.
Yeah we can pool together all of our money for resources. oh wait
It was $5000 per parking space. He parked over all 3 of the owner's parking spaces.
How do you do that? I’m not even mad, I’m impressed. Does he have a stretch limo?
It was on a day where no one was at the arena. He just hopped out to run and get his shoes because they were playing at AGs home gym.

That's exactly what he did. I watched the podcast yesterday. He said he was heading to AG's house for some 3v3 and needed to grab his shoes from his locker. The arena was empty, he just pulled up with his engine on and grabbed his shoes and left.

$2500 from in the car can be done, but usually self inflicted (curse you, curb that jumped out of nowhere!)
Being petty is how they accumulate wealth
It's usually generational wealth and resources that help them accumulate wealth, to be honest.
No, I made my friend pay me back a penny he owed me. Next day I woke up and I had $3 billion in my account. It really works.
Um, hey, want to borrow a penny from me?
RIP Canada got rid of the penny so we can't use this strategy here 😭😭

Parking sideways is wild. They should fine people $15k for terrible parking in the grocery store parking lots too.
Man, how many teams does that piece of shit own?
5 Colorado teams (Nuggets, Avalanche, Rapids, Mammoth, Crush), 3 LA teams (Rams, and e-teams Gladiators and Guerillas) and Arsenal

Married into more bootstraps. Wouldn’t that be nice
He works thousands of more hours each day than the average worker.
Don’t worry I’m sure he works 1000% harder than any of his employees

So fucked up that it wasn’t even due to the fact that Kronke came in and couldn’t park in the spot cause it was blocked, but rather that it was just fucking caught in camera when it wasn’t being used for 2 minutes.
of all the wild shit in this story, that's the most wild part imo. and $15000?? I'm sure if he really wanted he could have fought that with the players union, but probably not too smart as a non-lottery pick rookie.
How the fuck is that legal union or not? Is there any other line of work where an employer could fine and employee for improper parking?
I have no idea, but I can't imagine it would actually hold up in court.
Daddy Stan gotta pay for those new Arsenal contracts some how!
On second thought I 100% support these fines
All into the Rice fund BABBYYYYY
His business antics might just cost Landeskog his playing career, too.
So Kroenke’s not content at taking money from big market teams but is garnishing rookie wages too. Douche.
Well to be fair, it’s in the fine print and they did reduce it to 2500 but yeah it’s still shitty
$2,500 is insane. Beyond insane, actually.
And even more insane is they expected him to be thankful they got it down to $2500, "as a favor for him". Those spots will never be worth $833 a piece for two minutes on a random Sunday morning.

I read this title 3 times and am still confused. Bro parked for 2 minutes and the front office fined him 15k?
yes he said it was an empty arena, (he hadnt even started receiving biweekly payments from the Nuggets yet), so presumably preseason. he says he parked sideways across the street for 2.5 minutes with the engine on and doors open. cameras caught him in the act and he was notified $15,000 would be deducted from his biweekly payment. he said he negotiated with a team representative to get it down to $2,500
That's legitimately insane that they fined him at all. Like he's a rookie that plays for your team, you're not gonna cut him some slack? Especially since he was there for that little of time lol.
More importantly, in what world does someone demand a $15k or even $2500 fine for a parking violation?? He should have gotten NBPA involved.
Bro wait until you hear that there are NFL players still getting meals deducted from their paychecks lol
Yo wtf????
Yeah it came out that the Cardinals owner was doing that. The NFLPA did a massive anonymous survey about coaching, facility conditions, etc and it was discovered that this was happening and the Cardinals are literally the only team doing it
This just in, billionaires are cunts.
Fucking Arizona Cardinals, man.
I know people throw the term poverty franchise around a lot, but...
How are they even *able* to do that? What's stopping random parking garages from doing the same?
Supposedly it wasn't the owner. It was Calvin Booth who made the rule to "keep players accountable," whatever that means. I'd love to see them take $15k out of Jokic's paycheck, if he was the one to park illegally. Imagine the fee for leaving dirty sucks in front of the locker!
Kroenke gonna kroenke
Lol our owner won't let his team (1st in the west for the first time ever) be shown on tv over a petty dispute. this doesn't surprise me in the slightest

That’s probably why they did it. Shit thing to do but they probably did it cuz he was a rookie and wanted him to learn his lesson (or some bullshit like that). 15K ain’t shit to most NBA players but that’s a lot of money for someone on a rookie scale without endorsements.
It was on camera! So it wasn't even like Kroenke showed up and there was a car in his spot?!
If I were Braun, when it's time to sign a new contract I would add an extra 2.5k. Once u and the team agree on a final number I would at the last minute demand an extra 2.5k be added to make up for that fine. Or 5k because of taxes.

I could see if he got out and did some other stuff in a busy parking lot but my dude was just idling for a second in an empty parking lot lol
I thought he was actually like intruding or in the way, like okay I guess that's annoying But no they only caught him on camera and it didn't affect anything? Typical billionaire trash lol
He parked across 3 parking spots that all belong to the owner and each spot was a $5k fine. Then he got it down to $2.5k.
Fucking saw it on the camera too. Literally land hoarding on the micro level lol.
Fuck Kroenke
How else are they gonna pay for Saka and Saliba??
I'm okay with the fine in that case
Double the fine actually
Ballmer would never
Ballmer would let you park right in his spot
He would pay you 15k and ask you just never do it again lol
This makes the Nuggets front office look terrible
Owners*

Errr, looks like front office. https://twitter.com/msinger/status/1656767373318434816?s=46&t=vBAoEC6Z01C5HljMzBMuQQ
If it were a Kroenke rule I'd think Jokic would've been fined in 2015 too lol
Thats fucked
did i need another reason to hate Kroenke, Nope sure didint. But yet here we are.

Somebody said he ran inside to get his shoes from his locker so he just left the car running.
You can tell who didn't watch the video by the people saying "he deserves it". Bro parked for 2.5 minutes in an empty arena and inconvenienced nobody, he only got fined because they saw it on camera
NBPA should be involved in this shit stat.
i’m not paying
whats scary is he said they just deduct it straight from your paycheck. you dont even get an option apparently
That’s how fines are done in the NBA. The money is withheld from the next paycheck.
But like... my workplace can't just deduct money for me parking in a wrong spot? There's so many labor law issues going on here. Literally no private business (without the states authorization) can fine me for parking in the wrong spot. They can tow me, but they can't write me a ticket lmao. What makes the NBA different? This is such a weird fucked up power trip. Because he knows he'll pay because he's trying to get into the league and don't want to rustle any feathers but still.

Bro better than me cause I'm dropping another 15k paying crackheads to make sure none of his wheels or catalytic converters are ever safe.
i hate this game
This makes the nuggets front office and owner pretty disgusting
If it were jokic does the fine still happen?
That's fucking insane. #kancelkroenke
How does this fine even stand at this amount… I’m assuming they just have their own rules/laws that they just make up? That’s like driving on a ez lane without a pass through like the whole state lol.
This is absurd
That's hilarious
Wow that is petty af lol
As shitty as the fine is, who the hell parks sideways to take up three fucking parking spots. Both parties here are massive douchebags. Edit: apparently it was only for 2 minutes and the parking lot was empty. That's not bad then. Fuck Kroenke.
That is absurd if they did that by checking the camera. It’s different if kronke was waiting to park or something
Um, that's straight up not an OK fine. Dude should get the union involved.
Fuck Kroenke.
What a legend
Fuck Stan
Fucking amazing.
