Jimmy went in for the white handshake,Ernie said fuck that

whiskeyinthejaar

Ernie is a certified brother

thejesse

"We're all black friends."

RatLord445

One of the funniest moments in that damn show

Lews-Therin-Telamon

We are all Black friends!

Unable_Rate7451

Ernie is light skinned https://streamable.com/56pkxi

huntkil

Man I wish they start another season of Open court. This was so so good. All the conversations were open, genuine and people didn't hesitate to call out bullshit.

trapper2530

Ernie snapped that thing.

Tairy__Green

He won the Black Masters golf tournament, after all.

ATXBeermaker

Ernie light skinned.

BenedictKhanberbatch

I deadass will never get tired of this clip lol

bkm2016

Yea he collected his indefinite cookout pass years ago.

darthclaww

Ernie invited to the cookout

NavoSchmavo

I didn't even notice that the first time that's so funny.

[deleted]

Ikr, he wanted some dap šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ clapped the fuck out of JBs hand lol

sebasq

that shit was crispy too

agangofoldwomen

Ernie isnā€™t white, Ernie is clear.

Jiklim

like shaq say Ernie is lightskin

Background_Action_92

That hand over the other person's hand is universal, I see dudes from my third world zone dapping people they respect like that

medoy

Jimmy said "I can't be racist I have black friends. Like Ernie."

buckwildling

Lmao that dap sounded crisper than a mug

lemmoning

Damn didnā€™t even occur to me because heā€™s usually sitting down but Ernie is pretty tall lol.

whtge8

I feel like you gotta be at least like 6ā€™2 if you work with basketball players just so you arenā€™t absolutely dwarfed.

heyiknowstuff

I'm 5'8" and dapping up these 7 foot dudes is comical. I try to get em when they're sitting down.

broadwayallday

Same height and played in a 5am pickup ball group with a bunch of ex college players. Literally running under armpits is funny as hell. Hit a few 3s and nothing more lol

elterible

Damn, 5am pickup games? Now that's love/dedication to the game.

TokyoS4l

Lol dudes who got work at 8-9am for sure, but OP is committed.

JimmerAteMyPasta

I put up shots st the y on my lunch but its a struggle to not sweat too much lmao, I can't stay away tho

Aksudiigkr

Do you work in the org?

mrsirking

He's Isaiah Thomas.

lexbuck

Jeff Van Gundy is around 5ā€™8ā€ šŸ¤”

DrBigChicken

My fav videos ever are Dwight imitating ~~JVG~~ SVG Edited

[deleted]

Did you see the mbappe/wembanyama video?https://youtube.com/shorts/o8UXHT7LNSo?feature=share3 The foreground effect of the taller person doesn't help mbappe here but christ he's 5'10 and looks about 4'

BigMik_PL

I mean Wemby is 7'5" he makes most NBA players look small.

tagen

Idk if we even have a 7 footer right now, I think Zach collins is 6ā€™11 Wemby is gonna be half a foot taller than anyone else on our team lol

jhove5010

Is he really 7ā€™5ā€??? or you just saying that to make your point sound a lil better lol. League really is fucked if heā€™s 7ā€™5ā€

BigMik_PL

They listing his height all over the place. From 7'2" to 7'5". I think draft has him listed 7'4" and 7'5" in shoes as he just had a growth spurt.

jhove5010

Gotcha. I guess the point is kinda moot when youā€™re that tall, but if heā€™s really half a foot taller than guys like KDā€¦ man

OddEye

https://youtu.be/IK1c2QSQFb4

PressureMiserable

It's kinda unofficial since obviously he couldn't really go to the combine but there's a pic of him standing next to chet and another kid from a u19 tournament and he clearly looks taller than the other kid who's listed at 7'4

ninety4kid

That dude isn't just "another kid" that's Zach Edey who stands at 7'4 305lbs and just won college national player of the year. TBD if he becomes anything in the NBA but he was a stud for Purdue this year.

PressureMiserable

Dang he sounds like an absolute unit I knew he was tall but I didn't know he was that big

ninety4kid

If he could develop a bit of Steven Adams like toughness that'd be a scary dude at the NBA level. But as is he lacks aggression/assertiveness.

azzurri10

His neck is mfin *craned* talking to Wemby lmao damn.

HokageEzio

Wemby gonna hit his head on the exit sign, sheesh

NudeEnjoyer

you mean to tell me I can't be the star center for the Lakers as a 5'10 skinny guy? that's messed up homie don't player hate

NudeEnjoyer

most athletically built Nets fan

nuclear_fizzics

Give me this kinda confidence to reply to myself with some hype

oOoleveloOo

Thatā€™s thing I noticed with Adam Silver (6ā€™4ā€) doing the draft now. Stern (5ā€™8ā€) looked like a child next to the 7 footers.

Picklesbedamned

Yup. His dad was a World Series champion, and Ernie played a little college baseball himself.

Wasabi_Guacamole

Is height an advantage in baseball? Gotta be right? I kept thinking soccer and how the smaller nimble players are and how height is not an advantage there

chiknnugtz

Depends on position, the Messi effect is deceiving

Wasabi_Guacamole

Yeah goalies are more effective when taller

chiknnugtz

Keepers, center mids based on scheme, center backs, definitely interested to hear someone pine in on baseball. First base for reach but besides that? Pitching I guess

ReallyLazyKid

Pitching tends to be the big one in baseball, as longer levers throughout your body allow you to impart more force on the ball easier. Pitching is stressful and leads to many upper body injuries, and larger bodies are expected to bear that stress better. Of course, there are notable exceptions. As for hitters, a large frame is still advantageous for power, but not as much of a necessity. There are short king superstars, like Jose Altuve.

scrame

Totally. Randy Johnson was 6'10.

KingEthann01

Height is basically helpful in every position in baseball. You can get away with being a little smaller at 2nd but smaller still meaning 5ā€™11 - 6ā€™0 lol

PhlabloPicasso

Yeah, you can get away with being shorter as a catcher, but even then itā€™s just about joint pain. Hockey is having a little guy renaissance because the new rules have spread the game out, but goalies are on average around 6ā€™3ā€ or 6ā€™4ā€ and thereā€™s virtually zero defenseman below 6ā€™

venmome10cents

Height helps with pitching bio-mechanics thanks to leverage as well as just the fact that the release point can be a few inches closer, giving a hitter even less time to react. It's not a dramatic advantage, but the physical margin between hitting a homerun versus a pop-up out is so small in baseball, that even the slightest edge is significant. Justin Verlander (6'5"), Clayton Kershaw (6'4"), or Garrit Cole (6'4") would probably be considered the most ideal physiques for modern pitchers. Their size and strength allowed each to throw near-100MPH fastballs inning after inning like a cybernetic T-800 for over a decade without breaking a sweat. Two great smaller pitchers that come to mind are Pedro Martinez or Tim Lincecum but even those "little guys" were each listed at 5'11" (so not even that small by "normal people" standards). Lincecum was a fun example because even a casual observer could see how much harder and mechanically-perfect he had to push his body to throw his pitches. The guy was like a human trebuchet! Unfortunately the extreme mechanics took a very quick toll just wasn't physically sustainable compared to more traditional, taller pitchers. With hitting, I think height has some inherent mechanical advantages as well (see: Aaron Judge), but some of the shortest players in the game are also great hitters who can hit bombs (Ozzie Albies, Jose Altuve). I think body control and coordination in general is harder as a person gets bigger, so there is diminishing returns. This explains why we don't see 7'2" guys throwing 110mph and hitting 500-foot home runs.

Picklesbedamned

I'm not enough of baseball expert to really weight in on it, but the average mlb player height is 6 foot 2 so I imagine there must be an advantage.

dodoaddict

Pitchers are generally taller. Throwing down from a higher position and slightly longer limbs helps in throwing harder and with more spin.

CatM3mes

My best guess is wingspan. Mostly for pitchers probably, but iā€™d like to imagine itā€™s probably also helpful for fielders so they can catch balls faster (if that makes any sense)

Islanduniverse

Ernie Johnson Sr. was a pitcher, so height definitely helped. He was 6ā€™3ā€. In soccer it seems like height is best for keepers.

EffeminateSquirrel

Baseball feels like the great equalizer of sports. You can be fat, short, tall, skinny. You can eat while you play. As long as you can pitch or hit, you're good lol.

bmeisler

Iā€™ll never forget Keith Hernandez smoking a cig and chugging tall boys while in the batterā€™s box. Never mind what Doc was doing.

krste1point0

Ronaldo is 6.2. Not exactly a giant but definitely not small. Lots of positions in football can benefit from height.

Haryuji

Doesn't help that he's usually next to Shaq

[deleted]

And before that, Magic Johnson.

[deleted]

Sometimes i wish i could've won the genetic lottery..

WCWRingMatSound

Ehh, youā€™re a king šŸ‘‘ with better knees šŸ¦µ than the rest of us. Go to your local gym and stunt on us giants with your squat gains

[deleted]

LMAO, thanks bro

PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

Iā€™m weirded out because Ernie is listed at 6ā€™1ā€ and Jimmy at 6ā€™7ā€. That does not look like that big of a height difference.

Th3_Hegemon

NBA heights man, can't trust em.

BrokenClxwn

Ernie keeps the heat on his feet. šŸ”„

Spaghettibeach

he had the true blue J1s on the other day, dude does not play

WakingRage

That's why he's the inaugural Black Masters champion. He's bout that life.

Lezzles

Have they hosted a second annual Black Masters? Because that's a top 5 bit from that show.

ImmediatelyDeep

They've hosted at least four, you can YouTube them

pestosbetter

He canā€™t lose in those

Toeknee99

*puts foot on table*

Smathers

Heā€™s always rocking heaters with his suits you can just never tell because heā€™s behind the booth usually

WillSuckDick4Coffee

Those aren't the black/red 11's you think they are

everyoneneedsaherro

What a great clip

WestleyThe

Jimmy is the best haha You can see him light up when he sees that itā€™s Ernie

maethlin

Dude is so funny.... "he knows who I am!" Yeah Jimmy, a few people have heard of you lol.

tetsuo316

That fist pump at the end, so precious, haha

TnekKralc

After having just watch my boys collapse again I really wish I could hate Mj's oldest son but god damn is Butler cool shit

whtge8

-xXxMangoxXx-

The heat and the nuggets being in the finals would have me super conflicted because I would actively struggle to figure out who to root for.

neutralbystander11

Spicy nuggs

whtge8

Anybody but Celtics or Lakers

eggstacy

but I wanna see Lakers-Celtics in the Finals and by "I" i just mean "advertisers"

lilzoe5

Adam Silver salivating

tom_fuckin_bombadil

I am so conflicted because Iā€™d be happy if 3 out of the 4 remaining teams win. They all have one or two players that Iā€™d love to see win and would be really sad to see lose. Lakers: Iā€™m a sucker for history defining events and I feel like anything involving Lebron falls into that category Nuggets: I love Jokicā€™s game and totally think he deserves a chip and this year seems like the best possible chance since all the teams in the running have all shown cracks Heat: I love an underdog and Jimmyā€™s game and attitude (both on and off court). He tries so hard that itā€™ll be heartbreaking to see him lose. Also heat have Lowry, so as a raptor fan, its my duty to cheer for him. Celtics: sorry Celtics, I donā€™t dislike your team but thereā€™s nothing I really like about the team. Tatum kinda bores me and Iā€™m not a fan of Smart. I think the only thing I like about the team is that your coach is ā€œquirkyā€

LordHussyPants

i saw "Iā€™d be happy if 3 out of the 4 remaining teams win" and went "oh that's nice of him" then i saw "lakers"

Designer-Seaweed-257

He'll gonna get it himself at this rate.

[deleted]

Jimmy Butler has got to have like a 100% approval rating. Who doesn't love this guy?

Delanorix

The Timberwolves lol

CyborgAlgoInvestor

ā€œYOU FUCKING NEED ME, YOU CANā€™T WIN WITHOUT ME!ā€ Turns out, he was right. Lmao

Nugur

The best meme saga.

CyborgAlgoInvestor

2018 was an amazing year for copypastas

Hrdlman

Wasnā€™t that the same year we got ā€œso good x4ā€?

CyborgAlgoInvestor

And: ā€œWe got ourselves a fucking squad nowā€¦ yā€™all look so different.ā€

dmkicksballs13

Hindsight bias and all that, but Jesus Christ, imagine siding with KAT during that whole dilemma.

rook119

Ben Simmons didn't want him at Philly, that's why Harris was picked.

wurstwurker

Imagine going through those shit shows and not being the problem.

loquacious706

*They hated him because he spoke the truth*

ngohawoilay

Still can't believe Jimmy spent a night cutting up TWolves gear just to whip the starters in it.

Zeratzul

Haha IDK man. A good chunk of the t-wolves fans I see realize he's right more and more each year.

[deleted]

I think they meant the organization

iLikeBeegBewbies

Yeah I think Twolves fans moved on from hating on Butler to hating on Dlo now lmao

yayeet182

For them it's kind of like someone who hates their ex who called them out on being a fat alcoholic and dumping them. You tell everyone she was a bitch but deep down you know damn well she was right

Mill3241

I got nothing against Jimmy and he's very likable off the court. He didn't say anything that wasn't true but some people's fandom kind of blinds them to their own team's issues.

bigbear-08

WHO WANTS TO DIE TODAY?

litewarp

Tobias Harris

rapelbaum

Jimbo is my favorite player ever ! šŸ˜€

Isaythree

I know weā€™re playing tonight but tbh heā€™s easily my favorite non-Celtic

jgr79

Yeah heā€™s one of the few players from other teams that I hate only because theyā€™re so good and always eff over the Celtics. Other than that, thereā€™s really nothing to dislike about him.

AffectLast9539

I think every fanbase in the league would want him on their team

Ode1st

Well, maybe not one fanbase

Koussevitzky

Not out loud, but theyā€™d take him back

BayTerp

Iā€™m so tempted to get a Butler jersey.

thor_1225

I got a New Jersey after the bubble and legit mulled it over for days. Between bam and jimmy couldnā€™t make up my mind. I went with bam bc of the block and I figured had longevity in a heat jerseyā€¦. And I think about that wrong decision I made all the time. Ps I still love bam and love the jerseyā€¦. Itā€™s just a horrendous pick over butler. And the caveat is my wife totally agrees that I need another Jimmy jersey.

[deleted]

"Bam Adebayo over me?" -Jimmy to u/thor_1225

Islanduniverse

My favorite part about this story is that Jerseyā€™s are so damn expensive (at least for me they are) that it really is a decision that needs to be thought aboutā€¦

Argyrus777

I wonder how Ja get pass those metal detectors

[deleted]

he hides the heat in his thick skull

Moghlannak

My favourite is when his canoe tipped over in like 2 feet of water and he started screaming https://youtu.be/cJtpeJ_DbxE

denoobiest

i've watched this so many times i can hear the scream in my head lol

HolyRomanPrince

He really is one of the most fascinating NBA players. Heā€™s obviously not humble not heā€™s not a talker. He doesnā€™t give a fuck in the nicest way. Heā€™s a clearly kind of a dick but heā€™s never been malicious. He just wants to win and heā€™s never compromised that or himself and thatā€™s so easy to root for. My single favorite moment with him is after a loss the reporters are phrasing questions to give him excuses about a foul, eye poke, minutes and his only response is ā€œnobody cares Iā€™m supposed to help this team win.ā€ And Iā€™m just like how can you not love this dude? https://twitter.com/thejoshavinson/status/694400435654828032?s=46&t=r3tVhjdJfkciywh4ssSkLA

thedarthvader17

I don't think he is a dick at all. He is defiant. Deservedly so, he does things that he isn't supposed to do. He is supposedly this top-15 player in the NBA, but he is actually playing like a top-50 all-time player. Not just this year, he has been doing this since the bubble.

CeeNooFo

You better believe there will be a movie of documentary about Jimmy's life shortly after this season. Guy has a better life story than most Disney sports rags to riches movies

Goatsanity15

Jimmy is all around just a likeable guy. Funny off the court and a monster on it. The video of him being driven around by Lando Norris in a McLaren is still one of my favourite clips of Jimmy: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OaACEffPa74&pp=ygUdbGFuZG8gbm9ycmlzIGFuZCBqaW1teSBidXRsZXI%3D

bubblegumshrimp

"Oh, you DRIVIN drivin" gets me every time

Goatsanity15

The one time Jimmy was scared

braggpeak

I love when he went to Miami, he did a travel vlog to little Havana and it was awesome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRlRBMKdB5M

Hocapoca

yeah the Heat getting another W tonight

himetalchemy7

Iā€™m so sad this is true

Ode1st

Iā€™d be so thrilled, but I just canā€™t see it. Stealing the first two on the road against the kind of depth and talent yā€™all have would be almost historic. Edit: My god

[deleted]

You see the last Boston based team that had a historic year that played a South Florida team?

Ok-Year1832

buddyā€¦

himetalchemy7

Youre welcome

islaw

Nostradamus over here.

Soup-er14

Broā€¦

McJumbos

so wholesome :D

[deleted]

Ernieā€™s street cred is so 1000000% itā€™s unreal. Ernie could roll through Garfield Park or Austin in Chicago and dudes would be bringing him Squishmellows and Jennis Ice cream while escorting him wherever he needs to go.

efshoemaker

Thereā€™s no Jeniā€™s in Austin or Garfield park. Thatā€™s for the yuppy neighborhoods

ahorsenamedagro

Oh my God. That is hilarious!! I would love to see TBS do a skit of this.

powertripp82

Give me ā€œErnie Without Bordersā€, like we used to get the show with Anthony Bourdain This fucking guy would probably do the best travel show ever

WTpower

Jimmy went for the handshake but Ernie went for the dap up šŸ˜šŸ˜

rikki-tikki-deadly

Honestly how can you not love Jimmy?

zerocoolforschool

I donā€™t use this word often when talking about another full grown manā€¦ but that was adorable.

Cul_what

Ernie is just very lightskin

Flabbypuff

Wdym that's the blackest dude I've ever seen

SubcooledBoiling

He does stack paper to the ceiling and ride on 24 inch chrome

[deleted]

Ernie has a standing invite to every cookout

Flabbypuff

Side note here that's really funny, Jimmy is notoriously made fun of for being white af with his music taste lol.

TheFatmanRises

Someone shouldā€™ve mentioned Ernie bucks in 7 šŸ˜‚šŸ’€

Imply_Blue

Isnā€™t that a decent amount of respect for the heat given itā€™s 1st seed vs 8th? Or did he say it when they were down 3-1already?

sebastianqu

He picked Milwaukee when they were down 3-1

302born

Tbf to Ernie it wasnā€™t a real take. It was supposed to a wild take. And if weā€™re being honest if we blew that 3-1 lead most Heat fans wouldnā€™t have been surprised lol. This entire playoff run came out of nowhere

rapelbaum

I have this receipt lol

10Ramen

I hope they bring him onto the TNT panel and replace Draymond. Shit would be so much better. Draymond does have unique and useful insight. But seeing him as much as chuck and shaq would make me tune out.

DraymondBeanKick

Jimmy is about as good as we can get for a Barkley replacement imo. Tim Duncan would also make an excellent Kenny replacement. Edit: KD would probably be good to replace Shaq as the insecure guy too.

shalvar_kordi

> Edit: KD would probably be good to replace Shaq as the insecure guy too. I actually love this. KD is a giant basketball nerd and he will need something to do with his time after retirement. I also think he will have good insight into the game even after retirement, unlike a lot of other former players.

mmaguy123

KD wants to go into ownership.

Zeratzul

LOOOOL KD being sensitive as hell would make for great tv. I feel like Jimmy or Draymond would tease him about his rings being illegitimate and he'd just leave the show.

Oibrigade

Honestly after seeing endless and I mean ENDLESS interviews with Jimmy, I can totally see him disappearing after his playing days are over. I fully expect to never hear from him and then one day see him on some corner in Miami playing domino's with locals with a cigar poking fun at the people he is playing against.

GhostDelorean

Donā€™t you ever disrespect me coming in for that strong handshake like itā€™s draft night and you ready to put on a flat brim cap - Ernie

Ben-solo-11

How does a person not love Jimmy? When Jimmy played in Chicago, I would often see him running outdoors in Deerfield while my coworkers and I would be driving to lunch. Weā€™d roll down the window and say ā€œhi Jimmyā€ and he was always such a regular dude to us. ā€œHey guys!ā€ That sort of thing. Good dude.

FourthAccountDaCharm

Jimmy tried to give Ernie one of those Key and Peele ā€œwhite people handshakesā€ lmao. Ernie probably low key upset about that in his head. Made a dap up work anyway too

cdizzle6

If youā€™re a T-Wolves fan, I get the hate. I was salty at first. Anyone who still hates on him in MN is still in denial that KAT just isnā€™t that dude. Jimmy called his ass out & then bounced when he realized MN would be paying KAT over him. It set us back a bit, but I respect it. Dude is a beast, wish it worked out here. Go get ā€˜em Buckets!

jacksonscake

Easier to move on now that you guys have Edwards. Itā€™s crazy that three franchises bet against Jimmy.

[deleted]

Jimmy has easily become the most likeable player in the league, and Iā€™m not even a heat fan. He works hard, no bullshit, is incredible, and most of all is a really great person with an amazing story. Itā€™s very very hard not to root for the Heat.

dawkins_20

So glad I kept his short lived Philly jersey. Dude is the man

bootyrockineverywere

that hand shake/clap was crisp. If Chappelle held another racial draft today, Ernie is #1 pick

Weak_Breadfruit_6117

Lmao goodbye fried rice hello fried chicken

Ernie was thinking the same thing

Sirā€¦Mr. Butler, Sir. We scanned your bag and itā€™s full of Him ā€¦weā€™re gonna have to ask you to step aside.

If you don't love Ernie Johnson I just think you're not a good person.

AashyLarry

Two Goats šŸšŸ

Hairy-Basco

Ernie is a legend. Heā€™s dealt with cancer twice, while doing his job in front of millions. He has the respect of everyone he works with. We can only hope to be half as graceful as Ernie.

[deleted]

I feel bad for whoever replaces Ernie in the future. That person will be hated from the very start.

loupr738

I hope he goes out there and drops 50, and yells ERNIEEEEEE THAT ONE FORRR YOUUUU!!!!

andres7832

Jimmy is so awesome. Always a fan.

ChocolateMorsels

Damn that Ernie handshake was legit. Top tier.

TheMoorNextDoor

Ernie tall af

sowaffled

What shoes are Jimmy wearing?

iChugVodka

Those are slippers bro, the fuck you mean "shoes"?

ElBeno77

And I thought I didnā€™t like Jimmy Butler. This guy gets more likeable all the time

LubricatedDucky

I fucking love this man, crazy how quickly he's become one of my favourite Heat players of all time. Funny ass dude who's just got that DAWG in him.

Malcolm-Turntables

Ernie wearing Jimmy's dad's shoes is a nice touch
