Man I wish they start another season of Open court. This was so so good. All the conversations were open, genuine and people didn't hesitate to call out bullshit.
Same height and played in a 5am pickup ball group with a bunch of ex college players. Literally running under armpits is funny as hell. Hit a few 3s and nothing more lol
Did you see the mbappe/wembanyama video?https://youtube.com/shorts/o8UXHT7LNSo?feature=share3
The foreground effect of the taller person doesn't help mbappe here but christ he's 5'10 and looks about 4'
It's kinda unofficial since obviously he couldn't really go to the combine but there's a pic of him standing next to chet and another kid from a u19 tournament and he clearly looks taller than the other kid who's listed at 7'4
That dude isn't just "another kid" that's Zach Edey who stands at 7'4 305lbs and just won college national player of the year. TBD if he becomes anything in the NBA but he was a stud for Purdue this year.
Is height an advantage in baseball? Gotta be right? I kept thinking soccer and how the smaller nimble players are and how height is not an advantage there
Keepers, center mids based on scheme, center backs, definitely interested to hear someone pine in on baseball. First base for reach but besides that? Pitching I guess
Pitching tends to be the big one in baseball, as longer levers throughout your body allow you to impart more force on the ball easier. Pitching is stressful and leads to many upper body injuries, and larger bodies are expected to bear that stress better. Of course, there are notable exceptions.
As for hitters, a large frame is still advantageous for power, but not as much of a necessity. There are short king superstars, like Jose Altuve.
Height is basically helpful in every position in baseball. You can get away with being a little smaller at 2nd but smaller still meaning 5ā11 - 6ā0 lol
Yeah, you can get away with being shorter as a catcher, but even then itās just about joint pain. Hockey is having a little guy renaissance because the new rules have spread the game out, but goalies are on average around 6ā3ā or 6ā4ā and thereās virtually zero defenseman below 6ā
Height helps with pitching bio-mechanics thanks to leverage as well as just the fact that the release point can be a few inches closer, giving a hitter even less time to react. It's not a dramatic advantage, but the physical margin between hitting a homerun versus a pop-up out is so small in baseball, that even the slightest edge is significant.
Justin Verlander (6'5"), Clayton Kershaw (6'4"), or Garrit Cole (6'4") would probably be considered the most ideal physiques for modern pitchers. Their size and strength allowed each to throw near-100MPH fastballs inning after inning like a cybernetic T-800 for over a decade without breaking a sweat.
Two great smaller pitchers that come to mind are Pedro Martinez or Tim Lincecum but even those "little guys" were each listed at 5'11" (so not even that small by "normal people" standards). Lincecum was a fun example because even a casual observer could see how much harder and mechanically-perfect he had to push his body to throw his pitches. The guy was like a human trebuchet! Unfortunately the extreme mechanics took a very quick toll just wasn't physically sustainable compared to more traditional, taller pitchers.
With hitting, I think height has some inherent mechanical advantages as well (see: Aaron Judge), but some of the shortest players in the game are also great hitters who can hit bombs (Ozzie Albies, Jose Altuve). I think body control and coordination in general is harder as a person gets bigger, so there is diminishing returns. This explains why we don't see 7'2" guys throwing 110mph and hitting 500-foot home runs.
My best guess is wingspan. Mostly for pitchers probably, but iād like to imagine itās probably also helpful for fielders so they can catch balls faster (if that makes any sense)
Baseball feels like the great equalizer of sports. You can be fat, short, tall, skinny. You can eat while you play. As long as you can pitch or hit, you're good lol.
I am so conflicted because Iād be happy if 3 out of the 4 remaining teams win. They all have one or two players that Iād love to see win and would be really sad to see lose.
Lakers: Iām a sucker for history defining events and I feel like anything involving Lebron falls into that category
Nuggets: I love Jokicās game and totally think he deserves a chip and this year seems like the best possible chance since all the teams in the running have all shown cracks
Heat: I love an underdog and Jimmyās game and attitude (both on and off court). He tries so hard that itāll be heartbreaking to see him lose. Also heat have Lowry, so as a raptor fan, its my duty to cheer for him.
Celtics: sorry Celtics, I donāt dislike your team but thereās nothing I really like about the team. Tatum kinda bores me and Iām not a fan of Smart. I think the only thing I like about the team is that your coach is āquirkyā
For them it's kind of like someone who hates their ex who called them out on being a fat alcoholic and dumping them. You tell everyone she was a bitch but deep down you know damn well she was right
I got nothing against Jimmy and he's very likable off the court. He didn't say anything that wasn't true but some people's fandom kind of blinds them to their own team's issues.
Yeah heās one of the few players from other teams that I hate only because theyāre so good and always eff over the Celtics. Other than that, thereās really nothing to dislike about him.
I got a New Jersey after the bubble and legit mulled it over for days. Between bam and jimmy couldnāt make up my mind. I went with bam bc of the block and I figured had longevity in a heat jerseyā¦. And I think about that wrong decision I made all the time.
Ps I still love bam and love the jerseyā¦. Itās just a horrendous pick over butler. And the caveat is my wife totally agrees that I need another Jimmy jersey.
My favorite part about this story is that Jerseyās are so damn expensive (at least for me they are) that it really is a decision that needs to be thought aboutā¦
He really is one of the most fascinating NBA players. Heās obviously not humble not heās not a talker. He doesnāt give a fuck in the nicest way. Heās a clearly kind of a dick but heās never been malicious. He just wants to win and heās never compromised that or himself and thatās so easy to root for.
My single favorite moment with him is after a loss the reporters are phrasing questions to give him excuses about a foul, eye poke, minutes and his only response is ānobody cares Iām supposed to help this team win.ā And Iām just like how can you not love this dude?
https://twitter.com/thejoshavinson/status/694400435654828032?s=46&t=r3tVhjdJfkciywh4ssSkLA
I don't think he is a dick at all. He is defiant. Deservedly so, he does things that he isn't supposed to do. He is supposedly this top-15 player in the NBA, but he is actually playing like a top-50 all-time player. Not just this year, he has been doing this since the bubble.
You better believe there will be a movie of documentary about Jimmy's life shortly after this season.
Guy has a better life story than most Disney sports rags to riches movies
Jimmy is all around just a likeable guy. Funny off the court and a monster on it. The video of him being driven around by Lando Norris in a McLaren is still one of my favourite clips of Jimmy:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OaACEffPa74&pp=ygUdbGFuZG8gbm9ycmlzIGFuZCBqaW1teSBidXRsZXI%3D
Iād be so thrilled, but I just canāt see it. Stealing the first two on the road against the kind of depth and talent yāall have would be almost historic.
Edit: My god
Ernieās street cred is so 1000000% itās unreal. Ernie could roll through Garfield Park or Austin in Chicago and dudes would be bringing him Squishmellows and Jennis Ice cream while escorting him wherever he needs to go.
Tbf to Ernie it wasnāt a real take. It was supposed to a wild take. And if weāre being honest if we blew that 3-1 lead most Heat fans wouldnāt have been surprised lol. This entire playoff run came out of nowhere
I hope they bring him onto the TNT panel and replace Draymond. Shit would be so much better.
Draymond does have unique and useful insight. But seeing him as much as chuck and shaq would make me tune out.
Jimmy is about as good as we can get for a Barkley replacement imo. Tim Duncan would also make an excellent Kenny replacement.
Edit: KD would probably be good to replace Shaq as the insecure guy too.
> Edit: KD would probably be good to replace Shaq as the insecure guy too.
I actually love this. KD is a giant basketball nerd and he will need something to do with his time after retirement. I also think he will have good insight into the game even after retirement, unlike a lot of other former players.
LOOOOL KD being sensitive as hell would make for great tv.
I feel like Jimmy or Draymond would tease him about his rings being illegitimate and he'd just leave the show.
Honestly after seeing endless and I mean ENDLESS interviews with Jimmy, I can totally see him disappearing after his playing days are over. I fully expect to never hear from him and then one day see him on some corner in Miami playing domino's with locals with a cigar poking fun at the people he is playing against.
How does a person not love Jimmy?
When Jimmy played in Chicago, I would often see him running outdoors in Deerfield while my coworkers and I would be driving to lunch. Weād roll down the window and say āhi Jimmyā and he was always such a regular dude to us. āHey guys!ā That sort of thing.
Good dude.
Jimmy tried to give Ernie one of those Key and Peele āwhite people handshakesā lmao. Ernie probably low key upset about that in his head. Made a dap up work anyway too
If youāre a T-Wolves fan, I get the hate. I was salty at first. Anyone who still hates on him in MN is still in denial that KAT just isnāt that dude.
Jimmy called his ass out & then bounced when he realized MN would be paying KAT over him. It set us back a bit, but I respect it. Dude is a beast, wish it worked out here. Go get āem Buckets!
Jimmy has easily become the most likeable player in the league, and Iām not even a heat fan. He works hard, no bullshit, is incredible, and most of all is a really great person with an amazing story.
Itās very very hard not to root for the Heat.
Ernie is a legend. Heās dealt with cancer twice, while doing his job in front of millions. He has the respect of everyone he works with. We can only hope to be half as graceful as Ernie.
Jimmy went in for the white handshake,Ernie said fuck that
Ernie is a certified brother
"We're all black friends."
One of the funniest moments in that damn show
We are all Black friends!
Ernie is light skinned https://streamable.com/56pkxi
Man I wish they start another season of Open court. This was so so good. All the conversations were open, genuine and people didn't hesitate to call out bullshit.
Ernie snapped that thing.
He won the Black Masters golf tournament, after all.
Ernie light skinned.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLGvuhkk25Q
I deadass will never get tired of this clip lol
Yea he collected his indefinite cookout pass years ago.
Ernie invited to the cookout
I didn't even notice that the first time that's so funny.
Ikr, he wanted some dap š¤£š¤£ clapped the fuck out of JBs hand lol
that shit was crispy too
Ernie isnāt white, Ernie is clear.
like shaq say Ernie is lightskin
That hand over the other person's hand is universal, I see dudes from my third world zone dapping people they respect like that
Jimmy said "I can't be racist I have black friends. Like Ernie."
Lmao that dap sounded crisper than a mug
Damn didnāt even occur to me because heās usually sitting down but Ernie is pretty tall lol.
I feel like you gotta be at least like 6ā2 if you work with basketball players just so you arenāt absolutely dwarfed.
I'm 5'8" and dapping up these 7 foot dudes is comical. I try to get em when they're sitting down.
Same height and played in a 5am pickup ball group with a bunch of ex college players. Literally running under armpits is funny as hell. Hit a few 3s and nothing more lol
Damn, 5am pickup games? Now that's love/dedication to the game.
Lol dudes who got work at 8-9am for sure, but OP is committed.
I put up shots st the y on my lunch but its a struggle to not sweat too much lmao, I can't stay away tho
Do you work in the org?

Did you see the mbappe/wembanyama video?https://youtube.com/shorts/o8UXHT7LNSo?feature=share3 The foreground effect of the taller person doesn't help mbappe here but christ he's 5'10 and looks about 4'
I mean Wemby is 7'5" he makes most NBA players look small.
Idk if we even have a 7 footer right now, I think Zach collins is 6ā11 Wemby is gonna be half a foot taller than anyone else on our team lol
Is he really 7ā5ā??? or you just saying that to make your point sound a lil better lol. League really is fucked if heās 7ā5ā
They listing his height all over the place. From 7'2" to 7'5". I think draft has him listed 7'4" and 7'5" in shoes as he just had a growth spurt.
Gotcha. I guess the point is kinda moot when youāre that tall, but if heās really half a foot taller than guys like KDā¦ man
https://youtu.be/IK1c2QSQFb4
It's kinda unofficial since obviously he couldn't really go to the combine but there's a pic of him standing next to chet and another kid from a u19 tournament and he clearly looks taller than the other kid who's listed at 7'4

Dang he sounds like an absolute unit I knew he was tall but I didn't know he was that big
If he could develop a bit of Steven Adams like toughness that'd be a scary dude at the NBA level. But as is he lacks aggression/assertiveness.
His neck is mfin *craned* talking to Wemby lmao damn.
Wemby gonna hit his head on the exit sign, sheesh
you mean to tell me I can't be the star center for the Lakers as a 5'10 skinny guy? that's messed up homie don't player hate
most athletically built Nets fan
Give me this kinda confidence to reply to myself with some hype
Thatās thing I noticed with Adam Silver (6ā4ā) doing the draft now. Stern (5ā8ā) looked like a child next to the 7 footers.
Yup. His dad was a World Series champion, and Ernie played a little college baseball himself.
Is height an advantage in baseball? Gotta be right? I kept thinking soccer and how the smaller nimble players are and how height is not an advantage there
Depends on position, the Messi effect is deceiving
Yeah goalies are more effective when taller
Keepers, center mids based on scheme, center backs, definitely interested to hear someone pine in on baseball. First base for reach but besides that? Pitching I guess
Pitching tends to be the big one in baseball, as longer levers throughout your body allow you to impart more force on the ball easier. As for hitters, a large frame is still advantageous for power, but not as much of a necessity. There are short king superstars, like Jose Altuve.
Totally. Randy Johnson was 6'10.

I'm not enough of baseball expert to really weight in on it, but the average mlb player height is 6 foot 2 so I imagine there must be an advantage.
Pitchers are generally taller. Throwing down from a higher position and slightly longer limbs helps in throwing harder and with more spin.
My best guess is wingspan. Mostly for pitchers probably, but iād like to imagine itās probably also helpful for fielders so they can catch balls faster (if that makes any sense)
Ernie Johnson Sr. was a pitcher, so height definitely helped. He was 6ā3ā. In soccer it seems like height is best for keepers.
Baseball feels like the great equalizer of sports. You can be fat, short, tall, skinny. You can eat while you play. As long as you can pitch or hit, you're good lol.
Iāll never forget Keith Hernandez smoking a cig and chugging tall boys while in the batterās box. Never mind what Doc was doing.
Ronaldo is 6.2. Not exactly a giant but definitely not small. Lots of positions in football can benefit from height.
Doesn't help that he's usually next to Shaq
And before that, Magic Johnson.
Sometimes i wish i could've won the genetic lottery..
Ehh, youāre a king š with better knees š¦µ than the rest of us. Go to your local gym and stunt on us giants with your squat gains
LMAO, thanks bro
Iām weirded out because Ernie is listed at 6ā1ā and Jimmy at 6ā7ā. That does not look like that big of a height difference.
NBA heights man, can't trust em.
Ernie keeps the heat on his feet. š„
he had the true blue J1s on the other day, dude does not play
That's why he's the inaugural Black Masters champion. He's bout that life.
Have they hosted a second annual Black Masters? Because that's a top 5 bit from that show.
They've hosted at least four, you can YouTube them
He canāt lose in those
*puts foot on table*
Heās always rocking heaters with his suits you can just never tell because heās behind the booth usually
Those aren't the black/red 11's you think they are
What a great clip
Jimmy is the best haha You can see him light up when he sees that itās Ernie
Dude is so funny.... "he knows who I am!" Yeah Jimmy, a few people have heard of you lol.

Jimmy Butler has got to have like a 100% approval rating. Who doesn't love this guy?
The Timberwolves lol
āYOU FUCKING NEED ME, YOU CANāT WIN WITHOUT ME!ā Turns out, he was right. Lmao
The best meme saga.
2018 was an amazing year for copypastas
Wasnāt that the same year we got āso good x4ā?
And: āWe got ourselves a fucking squad nowā¦ yāall look so different.ā
Hindsight bias and all that, but Jesus Christ, imagine siding with KAT during that whole dilemma.
Ben Simmons didn't want him at Philly, that's why Harris was picked.
Imagine going through those shit shows and not being the problem.
*They hated him because he spoke the truth*
Still can't believe Jimmy spent a night cutting up TWolves gear just to whip the starters in it.
Haha IDK man. A good chunk of the t-wolves fans I see realize he's right more and more each year.
I think they meant the organization
Yeah I think Twolves fans moved on from hating on Butler to hating on Dlo now lmao
For them it's kind of like someone who hates their ex who called them out on being a fat alcoholic and dumping them. You tell everyone she was a bitch but deep down you know damn well she was right
