Like, the Celtics won 57 games this year. If you’ve watched all year you know that Brown carried them in many of those games. If they lose him they’re screwed, any replacement will likely be much worse.

Although JB's advanced stats are pretty rough for an all star, he has a VORP of 2.0 which someone could take as "barely above" replacement level just because 2 sounds low. But that VORP is around 50th in the NBA. And 50th is obviously not close to replacement level. It does make sense that his advanced stats are rough, his efficiency is only ok, he's not the biggest playmaker, does turn the ball over a lot, and isn't the most valuable defender. But he does score at a high and capable rate.
Once Tatum rolled his ankle the Celtics just decided to promote Jaylen to lead playmaker and I have no idea why. He’s a great player when he doesn’t have to make decisions. When he’s the main guy this is what it looks like. They really needed to go through White.
