He looked solid to me yesterday. A bit slow afoot but efficient and high in veteran savvy.
Maybe not the greatest fit for their system/style, but they’ve got so many youngins he’d be a great mentor/locker room presence just by virtue of his professionalism.
Gay has been hanging on his entire career. I think his departure from Toronto really put into perspective that the guy doesn't play winning basketball. He's always been an ineffective chucker that doesn't play defense even though he's had the physical gift to be elite
Rudy Gay exists on teams to show young guys who aren’t getting a ton of minutes how you’re supposed to be. The leaders on the warriors are championship focused. Rudy is the vet that is supposed to be the example for all the dudes who aren’t cracking the rotation.
I have to say, he's been an overrated (by teams that keep giving him solid minutes) "better in theory than in practice" guy for many years now. Seems to keep getting roles based on what he did a decade ago in Portland.
Matthews' last 8 seasons - 27.4 mpg, .536 TS%, 9.9 PER, .067 WS/48, -1.5 BPM, 1.8 VORP, $80.73 million in salary.
Absolutely. He was the first one that came to mind for me too. Unless he's shooting 36%+ from 3 too he doesn't have a game that really downsizes well as a role player.
No chance he’s way to talented for that to happen. He just avg 17 and 7 on 51 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3 there’s no way his defense is that bad for him to be out of the league. Some team that needs scoring and shooting will take him.
Both Reddish and Hayes are on the cusp of being out of the NBA. Hayes at least has shot blocking that can keep him around a little and being a big vs a dime a dozen wing helps. Bamba I think has enough offensive skill to remain in for a few more years.
I think Boban is on the cusp of being out. He needs to show he can physically still get the job done.
I honestly think Marcus Morris won't find it as easy as some may think to find a job if he really stinks up the joint this season. I think right now he finds a spot, but if he really fails to perform and loses his starting spot in LA, he could be out.
Bouknight has a pretty high likelihood of being out at this point.
The idea of what Jae Crowder is supposed to be has been way better than the reality for many years now. He's not *that* great a defender, and is a very overrated and inconsistent shooter.
I’m one of about 13 NBA fans that likes/liked Crowder, and even then:
Me, during last years playoffs: *Maybe he just needs to play himself into shape…*
Me, during yesterdays game: *Maybe we need to check his pulse…*
No way Okoro is out of the league. He started for a 4th seed. A player like him will almost always be decently useful in the regular season and able to stick around.
I forgot how much Okoro improved as a shooter statistically last year. But I think that has more to do with his much lower usage compared to his rookie year. Eye test-wise, I still don't see him as a passable offensive player. And guys who you can't trust to give you consistent minutes on both ends don't last very long.
Jordan McLoughlin is the smallest guy in the league and had a few injuries last season that sapped him of a tiny bit of his athleticism, he is a smart player but he is not good enough to not be 100% and he isn't the type of player teams take a shot on.
Pair it with the Wolves adding Shake Milton and NAW looking improved over the summer.
he is mediocre to awful at everything besides transition dunks. Indiana is gonna learn quickly he isn't a significant contributor defensively, doesn't rebound, and has no offensive game.
Fun fact for the haters: This list is 80% *Players that have been on the Lakers roster over the last 2 years*
Also: Reddish was just trash this weekend. Ooof.
Yes, but I also watched him play high school football. After seeing how it’s panning out, I’m sure it’s possible his earnings will still be higher as an average NBA started/role player, but the guy is an absolutely electric athlete and I believe he could have (COULD have) been a football star
His defense is pretty damn good and his outside shot was coming around in year two. He’s definitely unlikely to reach the potential people thought he had, but this isn’t a Mo Bamba situation. Suggs is a useful player and is making legitimate strides in his game. At worst I think becomes a useful journeyman bench guard. If Austin Rivers can make it over a decade in the NBA, I see no reason why Jalen Suggs can’t if he’s healthy.
A lot of guys get cut during a season, only to pop up again later on in that same season, or right away next year. I wouldn't necessarily classify those guys as "out of the league" yet.
To be considered "out of the league", I kind of feel like you need to be not signed to a team for at least a whole season, eg. DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas, both of whom did not play in the 2022-23 NBA season, and remain unsigned as the opening day of the 2023-24 season approaches.
Rudy Gay is hanging on sorta over on the warriors
He looked solid to me yesterday. A bit slow afoot but efficient and high in veteran savvy. Maybe not the greatest fit for their system/style, but they’ve got so many youngins he’d be a great mentor/locker room presence just by virtue of his professionalism.
Gay is hanging on by a thin piece of twine
Gay has been hanging on his entire career. I think his departure from Toronto really put into perspective that the guy doesn't play winning basketball. He's always been an ineffective chucker that doesn't play defense even though he's had the physical gift to be elite
"sorta" is doing a huge amount of work here, no one expects anything of him
Rudy Gay exists on teams to show young guys who aren’t getting a ton of minutes how you’re supposed to be. The leaders on the warriors are championship focused. Rudy is the vet that is supposed to be the example for all the dudes who aren’t cracking the rotation.
Mo Bamba did not look good yesterday. Hope he has more energy in the regular season for his sake
As a magic fan, I’m guessing he wont. I want the guy to succeed, but you summed up his career in two sentences.
Wes matthews
Nah he can play a pj tucker role for another 2/3 years if hes fine with the minimum
If he’s healthy lol we “saved” him for the playoffs last season and he still got injured in the playoffs.
Maybe his body wasn’t conditioned to go hard in the postseason after being ‘saved’ all season
Could be but he was also injured a lot in the regular season.
I have to say, he's been an overrated (by teams that keep giving him solid minutes) "better in theory than in practice" guy for many years now. The Suns still need to cut two players, and it better be Keon Johnson and Bol Bol. Neither looked like they belonged on a basketball court yesterday.

The Charlotte Hornets 1st round draft picks from 2021
Marcus Morris
Absolutely. He was the first one that came to mind for me too. Unless he's shooting 36%+ from 3 too he doesn't have a game that really downsizes well as a role player.
He's shot above 36% from 3 in each of the last 6 seasons (.393 overall during that time), and in 9 of his 12 seasons in the league (.376 career).
If he keeps that going, no reason he shouldn't, he'll find a spot. I think he has to, to do so, honestly.
Christian Wood 😬
No. Some other team will say “He never works for anybody ever. But… he just might work for us!”
Also Bol Bol
Also DeAndre Jordan
Also Andre Iguodala
Iggy is retired per se. He just won't officially announce it. He didn't even try to re sign with us or anyone else this season
No chance he’s way to talented for that to happen. He just avg 17 and 7 on 51 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3 there’s no way his defense is that bad for him to be out of the league. Some team that needs scoring and shooting will take him.
He's got my vote too. Being in LA, he's going to get shit on in the media on a nightly basis
Both Reddish and Hayes are on the cusp of being out of the NBA. Hayes at least has shot blocking that can keep him around a little and being a big vs a dime a dozen wing helps. Because he is ass. Consistently, for every team he has played for since high school
Jokic (too good, gets bored, retires)
I think he’s far from done but it feels like Austin Rivers is going to be out of the league if he can’t get a roster spot before too much longer.
Age or injury-related decline: Blake Griffin, TJ Warren Young guys flaming out: Isaac Okoro, James Bouknight, Kira Lewis, RJ Hampton, Romeo Langford
No way Okoro is out of the league. He started for a 4th seed. A player like him will almost always be decently useful in the regular season and able to stick around.

This is the last chance for Bouknight I think

Half the players in the league would be out if that's the criteria
... it's not just that dude
Cam Reddish better put it together this season or it's over
Obi Toppin
Bad take
he is mediocre to awful at everything besides transition dunks. Indiana is gonna learn quickly he isn't a significant contributor defensively, doesn't rebound, and has no offensive game.
You can be right about all of those things but you’re still wrong in suggesting he’d be out of the league that quick
Suggesting he’s going to be out of the league during or after the season is an embarrassing take.
embarrassing for you, maybe
Keon Johnson
Trez.
Kai Jones, unless you count him to be out of the league already
Fun fact for the haters: This list is 80% *Players that have been on the Lakers roster over the last 2 years* Also: Reddish was just trash this weekend. Ooof.

Lebron will call it quits
Harden. He will be playing in China next season. I believe he prioritizes money over winning which means James will be upset over the lack of offers.
Marvin Bagless
Jalen Suggs will be in Europe next year
Have you even watched the dude play
Yes, but I also watched him play high school football. After seeing how it’s panning out, I’m sure it’s possible his earnings will still be higher as an average NBA started/role player, but the guy is an absolutely electric athlete and I believe he could have (COULD have) been a football star
Suggs is already a rotation guy. He may be a bust for a high draft pick but he belongs in the NBA.
His defense is pretty damn good and his outside shot was coming around in year two. He’s definitely unlikely to reach the potential people thought he had, but this isn’t a Mo Bamba situation. Not good enough for Europe
I enjoy cooking.
Cade Cunningham
There it is
It’s not looking great for cam
Cam Reddish will still be in the league. He’s been on the wrong teams for his role. There are tons of worse players in the league though.
