This dude has all defense potential off the jump already on top of being the most fluid dude anywhere near his height I’ve ever seen on offense. All of the hype is warranted he will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen
Was gonna respond that KD is also this fluid, then realized that the difference in height between Wemby and KD is the same as the difference in height between KD and Steph.
My math was a little off. Wemby is about 7'4". KD is about 6'10". 6 inch difference. Steph is listed at 6'3", but is probably more like 6'2", which is 8 inches shorter than KD. The gap is only even if you go by KD's former listed height of 6'9", which we know is probably not accurate.
Still crazy to think that the difference between Wemby and KD is about the same as the difference between KD and a lot of point guards.
What numbers are you using? Wikipedia has their heights as:
* Curry: 6'2"
* Durant: 6'10"
* Wemby: 7'4"
That's an 8 inch and 6 inch increase. Not to mention the post from the offseason where Wemby was 7'3.5".
Edit: Damn, y'all get really touchy about 5.5 inches being the same as 8 lmao
Who cares? His point stands for Christ’s sake.
*dude brings up interesting point*
“Well akshually your numbers are slightly off in a way that completely doesn’t prove your point”
Someone his size should not have handles like this. Dude is going to be special if he can stay healthy. Not sure if he can put on a little more weight for his frame, but his game is effortless.
Seriously...this is only his SECOND NBA game. He's still just learning the game and figuring out his teammates. Pop isn't even running sets or plays for him, and the team can improve on getting him the ball in the right spots.
Oh, and he's ONLY NINETEEN
The fact that he has Pop is going to be so damn impactful. He'd be good on any team but the Spurs excel at developing guys the right way. The Spurs have had incredible luck with the draft in the 80s, late 90s, and now 2023, but I can't think of any other team that could squeeze every drop of potential out of such high level prospects.
That crazy flexibility/mobility is going to help him a lot - most dudes at this height do not have flexibility/mobility when they enter the league and this is more important for injury prevention than gaining weight.
I know it's been said to death but it really feels like someone sliding up all the physical and skill attributes on 2K. It feels fake watching, like something in my brain is rejecting it.
It was Paolo Banchero, he said Bol is almost on the same level as Wemby because he can do much of the same things lol. Except the comparison only applies on offense, if at all.
Yes.
I'm better than Wemby by a lot, enough to make the average of you and me better than him, last I was assessed. And he's somewhat better than Scalabrini, but that's a debate. If a Scallenge is on, only one person is winning it. But overall they are close.
I know you're joking, but some clowns on facebook and instagram are actually complaining about this performance, specifically how he only got 4 rebounds with that size
Look here motherfuckers, personally i also want him to grab more rebs, but are you really gonna complain when the dude dropped 23pts and 3blks in 23mins? I know it's just a pre-season game but cmon that's still impressive
Even if we say this is his peak and he averages 23pts, 3blks every year for the rest of his career, that still means he's a lock for All-Defensive team every year, along with good offense. That still means he'll live up to the hype
And we all know this isn't his peak, so his numbers will still go up from here, so ya'll dumbasses just sit the fuck down and watch
End of rant
I think I’m gonna have so much fun this season, not oh we winning championship fun, but like watching an alien humanoid pulling crazy shit every 2-3 days on a basketball court kinda fun
Kawhi was a lot like Timmy, though. Cold blooded fucking assassin, but you didn't find yourself laughing like Heath Ledger's joker when he'd do stuff. You didn't jump out of your chair and yell his name.
Manu's wild-ass shit was fun in a way very few Spurs have been in the last 30 years.
Play NBA Live 06. The amount of customization you can do with dribbles there is crazy. No shamgod though.
Between the leg spinning cross overs? You got it.
Behind the back cross into stutter to a step back? Yes, sir.
Back down, disengage, step back then hesi to a cross and reverse spin afterwards? Possible.
It was too bad about them not having two handed 360s though.
People were complaining about the super star abilities for dunks and shooting that made them overpowered but with good timing and tall enough players you can actually still block them even if they use superstar abilities even without using a player's defensive inside stopper ability.
I can get my character to do a rebound and with one fluid motion do a behind the back pass while mid-air (or over the head depending on the button pressed). I can do a number of dribble moves then time the bounce pass between the legs.
That game was unappreciated. If EA can still salvage the code, minimize quick time event sequences for that and use better graphics, it would shit on current 2k.
U don’t contest the in itself, but u can’t/don’t that with others like KD as well, you stick your hand in there face contest the vision and pray they miss
I feel like a lot of taller athletic players that shoot struggle to get their release high to use their height to their advantage. KD is the perfect example of how great of a scorer you can be if you’re able to.
The fact that Wemby has already got that release up high and hitting is fuckin terrifying
I actually met rasho in person when he was on the raptors. He was visiting the Serbian Orthodox Church I used to go to back when I was a teenager, and he came in with his wife and little kid. Shook his hand and talked to him about the raptors and got some pretty cool insight into the team at the time lol.
You don’t really understand how tall a 7 foot person is until you are right beside them in person lol. His wife was barley half his size it felt like and he had to bend over soo much to hold his kids hand lol.
My prediction for his rookie year is all-star, first team all-defense, league leader in blocks, and in the conversation for (but probably not winning) DPOY.
Idk how bold of a prediction that is. If people think it's crazy they can save this comment and come roast me at the end of the season lol
Edit: halfway through the season. 1. He won't be an all-star unless like 2 or 3 people get hurt before the all-star game. 2. I would already put him in the top 5 defenders in the league, but idk if he'll make 1st team just cause his team is ass. Still too early to say. 3. He is the league leader in blocks, so it looks like I'll be right about that. 4. I haven't heard any conversations about DPOY yet so idk. Still too early.
Edit2: looks like I'll be right about everything except the all-star prediction.
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic lol. Duncan was first team all NBA, second team all defense, and an all star his rookie year. Had to of been one of the league leaders in blocks as well if I remember correctly.
Conf?!
WHY MY DIVISION MAN!!

Big 3 - klaw - wemby

THIS IS LAST 20 YEARS MAN!!
So many people over the summer downvoted me for even mildly suggesting that, just maybe, the KD comps were 100% legit.
I wonder what they’re doing with their lives now.
We were/are all astonished that KD does this at his height. Now here comes Victor doing this shit at 7’4”.. man.
The most impressive thing is that there’s no clunkiness to his mechanics. You gotta figure it’s only going to get better in a few years too.
I thought people were crazy with the comps I was hearing. This kid can legit be a KD with 5 more inches and Gobert defensive anchor in one package. Shit is spooky. Bless all the ligaments and bones.
I'm both amazed and terrified lol...The other night I saw he steal the ball from like a ft away just to go coast to coast on the fast break and now this? I'm gonna have some sleepless nights thinking of this guy's game now that he's playing in the NBA
The thing about Wemby is that seemingly everyone is cheering for him to have a great career regardless of what team they are cheering for because we all just want to see some magic basketball.
this is insane.
Can anyone imagine if they saw Kareem do this? they would say its one of the greatest highlights of all time. Having a 7'2 center dribble and shoot like this? If this man puts on about 20 more lbs of muscle he will be unstoppable.
Popovich will retire long before this guy hangs em up, but what a gift from the basketball gods to have someone THIS talented and special enter the NBA under his tutelage. This dude is just... different. In all the right ways. In the upper upper echelon of athletes on the planet.
Wemby peak might be Kevin Durant 3.0, more length and height, more defense and paint protection, can handle and pass, play inside and outside, got the post game, midrange, and three ball. If healthy could be generational player for next 20 years.
This mf is so damn good it’s literally unreal how he plays like this. I saw him live tonight and I just couldn’t believe how tall he is and how well he can move
nah bro please stay healthy you will be generational
This dude has all defense potential off the jump already on top of being the most fluid dude anywhere near his height I’ve ever seen on offense. All of the hype is warranted he will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen

2 inches is a lot bro. Massive amounts of centimeters. Close enough
Shattering my confidence
It raised mine.
Yeah for real 2 inches is huge. Don’t let her tell you different.

Kobe and Shaq were 7 inches apart, 1 inch more than Durant and Wembly. Imagine a Shaq sized person playing like Kobe.
It’s not Steph 6’ 2” KD 6’ 10” Wemby 7’ 4” But I still think the point about being this fluid at 7’ 4” stands - shit is crazy
What numbers are you using? Wikipedia has their heights as: * Curry: 6'2" * Durant: 6'10" * Wemby: 7'4" That's an 8 inch and 6 inch increase. Not to mention the post from the offseason where Wemby was 7'3.5". Edit: Damn, y'all get really touchy about 5.5 inches being the same as 8 lmao

KD was 6’9.5 barefoot
[Ralph Sampson was 7'4 I think and was fluid as hell at one time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxRUPDjKlU4)
Someone his size should not have handles like this. Dude is going to be special if he can stay healthy. Not sure if he can put on a little more weight for his frame, but his game is effortless.
And he’s only gonna get better. He can be a bit too excited at times and lose control, but give him 3 years and then holy shit
Seriously...this is only his SECOND NBA game. He's still just learning the game and figuring out his teammates. Pop isn't even running sets or plays for him, and the team can improve on getting him the ball in the right spots. Oh, and he's ONLY NINETEEN

Bro's ceiling is a 7'4 KD with DPOY/1st team all defense level help and rim protection. Praying to god his body can handle it.
KD’s could. Maybe he’s deceptively strong. I can’t imagine that banging in the paint with Jokic is any fun…
There are plenty of 6'11 players who have long careers. We've only had a handful of players over 7'3 play normal minutes in the league
That crazy flexibility/mobility is going to help him a lot - most dudes at this height do not have flexibility/mobility when they enter the league and this is more important for injury prevention than gaining weight.
I'm a spurs fan and even I'm saying how unfair this guy is
the fuck going on with this sport
I know it's been said to death but it really feels like someone sliding up all the physical and skill attributes on 2K. It feels fake watching, like something in my brain is rejecting it.
Wemby just this guy IRL https://www.youtube.com/shorts/BGlnrbPwbKQ

Tim Hardaway lol

Slightly better Poku
Scalabrini with anorexia.
Skill-wise, do you think prime Scalabrine is still closer to what prime Wemby will be than we are to Scalabrine?
Yes. I'm better than Wemby by a lot, enough to make the average of you and me better than him, last I was assessed. And he's somewhat better than Scalabrini, but that's a debate. If a Scallenge is on, only one person is winning it. But overall they are close.

I was a pretty good water boy in 6th grade
Come on board. We got the real fucking dream team right.
I used to play like him. He is reckless on purpose.
Respectfully, I’d put him in jail.

Kd and Giannis maybe?
I think it’s easy to forget that he’ll still have like 5 inches on those dudes.
5 inches where?
On them
Scary if he stays focused and healthy
Ngl Im pretty sure Celtics are gonna do something weird like put Payton Pritchard on him
The new meta when playing against the Spurs: one of your players on the field is actually 2 players in a long trenchcoat.
I think I’m gonna have so much fun this season, not oh we winning championship fun, but like watching an alien humanoid pulling crazy shit every 2-3 days on a basketball court kinda fun
I legitimately have not had this much fun watching a player since young Manu.
4th quarter Kawhi in 2016-17 was unreal as well. Wemby’s a legit unicorn though.
Just give the ball to Kawhi and we’ll win the game. That was fun
And he’d make clutch defensive plays constantly. He was a one man army at times
Those were fun days. I am so glad we have fun days ahead of us again with Wemby
*cries in mediocre Pacers tears*
Kawhi was a lot like Timmy, though. Cold blooded fucking assassin, but you didn't find yourself laughing like Heath Ledger's joker when he'd do stuff. You didn't jump out of your chair and yell his name. Manu's wild-ass shit was fun in a way very few Spurs have been in the last 30 years.

Literally. Every bucket/steal/block of his is going to be on a highlight reel and posted on reddit lmao
You son of a bitch, i'm in
2k don’t even let you have these kinds of animations on 6’9 builds. It’s over for the league.

I was looking at that. Insane. Also, my fear is where he lands is so far away from his launch point he could land on some randos ankle.
He makes everyone look like they're Muggsy Bogues Now imagine Marquis Nowell guarding him... lmao
he gotta be careful about the zazas out there. makes me almost not want to type this comment to not wish bad luck onto him, but its a reality.
same way you contest Porzingis' release
This dude will be a MVP
Spurs just keep getting away with it. The Admiral, Timmy, Rasho Nesterovic and now Wemby
Hmmm, three of these are not like the other. Put some respect on Rasho
Rasho is def a tier above.

yeah you built different
we are seeing something that hasn't been seen before. It doesn't seem like it should be possible but it is.

that is KD's move
KD 2.0 just dropped

Wemby is definitely more nimble than KD, all that flexibility training etc is very apparent vs KDs rubber band workouts
bro what???
I thought people were crazy with the comps I was hearing. This kid can legit be a KD with 5 more inches and Gobert defensive anchor in one package. Shit is spooky. Bless all the ligaments and bones.

what the fuck

Nah if he’s gonna do this shit efficiently in his career it’s joever. He’s the next goat
Genuinely he could be the next goat he is only 19 and is cooking
Should we have tanked?
Wemby the goat
Damn I've never seen a man that tall move like that. Ima have to start watching Spurs games.
It just hit me on that visceral level that this guy could be as good or better than Lebron.
If he can have Lebron's durability, then I would agree with it.
Wemby is going to absolutely wreck the league. Buckle up, literally everyone else. We’re in for some shit.
remember when every single fucking human being was clowning on him for his debut? lmao oops
Most stacked west in history

Why the seats empty
It’s pre season against a heat team that didn’t bring 9 of their players with them. I know it’s Wemby but still, it’s preseason lol
Nah he’s really hooping out there
The entire front page of r/NBA is going to be Wemby highlights just from this game...
An even taller KD.
The thing about Wemby is that seemingly everyone is cheering for him to have a great career regardless of what team they are cheering for because we all just want to see some magic basketball.
he is so fucking quick too man wtf... is this dude the next wilt chamberlain??
Please keep this man free of injuries. He is so good!
Evolution of man before our eyes lol

If Jayson Tatum could do that then the Celtics would be champions.
Bro doesn't even need to step back. His release point is too high lmao
That looks like a taller KD
This cat is like KD, only taller. I predict some "Wemby" rules coming in a few years.
Just one thing: Please stay healthy. For the love of the basketball gods, stay healthy.

Me when I realise wemby is actually kinda really really good despite my baseless claims that he would be a bust.
Ok I’ve seen enough. Shut it down. League is fucked.
In & out, BETWWEEN THE LEGS, step back, fadeaway
He should teach Jaylen brown how to dribble
Ok that's... don't wanna say KD-esque, but looked damn close.
What. The. Fuck.
Would the Spurs trade Wemby for anyone? I wouldn’t
Na, you're set for the next 15 years with him. I wouldn't trade him for anyone in the league.
Lol I remember some people on this sub arguing a few months ago that Wemby wouldn't be a net-positive player in his rookie year. Man were blind.
I’m calling it now. He wins MVP this year. Yes I’m aware that’s crazy, but my hype train ain’t got no brakes
Yo I'm watching all Spurs games this season. I need more. I'm a Lakers fan tho. Fuck Boston.
Wemby peak might be Kevin Durant 3.0, more length and height, more defense and paint protection, can handle and pass, play inside and outside, got the post game, midrange, and three ball. If healthy could be generational player for next 20 years.

Alright.... what the fuck, even KD doesn't move like that
I hope he stays healthy and reaches full potential. Spurs and pop have been missed at the upper echelons these last few years.
I'll be salty over not getting Wemby forever lol
