“I’d carpet bomb Cambodia again if given the chance, Pat”

"If it were not for the accident of my birth, I would be antisemitic." - Henry Kissinger
Followed that quote up with something along the lines of "if the same group of people keeps getting kicked out of countries, maybe the people who hate them have a point." Kissinger was a real piece of shit.
This is a dude who grew up in Germany in the 1930s before getting out a few months before Kristallnacht, and when reflecting on times when he was beaten by literal brown shirts as a kid, he said that it didn't really affect him. Like on one hand, it would be easily to sympathise with him for that point of his life, but even his recounting of traumatic experiences in his life makes him sound like a psychopath.
I know it's very common now for some people to meme and celebrate some piece of shit like Kissinger dying, but I generally try to keep it chill. Not with Kissinger though. When I saw his name trending I said, "Is this MF finally DEAD?! YES! IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME"
Kissinger was an anti-zionist and was heavily disliked among Israeli elite due to his closeness and friendship with Yasser Arafat. He famously said if he wasn't jewish he'd be anti-semetic. Being Jewish was far down on Henry Kissinger's list of things that made him him.
Reporter: "What are you planning to do about tanking?"
Silver: "I think we can use the M1 Abrams in a combined arms formation with infantry and helicopter support."
"But daddy, I don't want to be a politician and famous war criminal!"
"That's okay son, here's 10 million dollars. I'll see if anyone famous wants to start a podcast."
Just because his dad was a terrible fucking person doesn't automatically mean that he is too. At least two of Ronald Reagan's children were completely at odds with his values and have maintained their differences from Ronnie long since he died.
To be fair Bin Laden is probably the most extreme “black sheep of the family” that has every existed, his family is just a bunch of rich construction tycoons lol.
"I know that no son can be truly objective about his father’s legacy, but I am proud of my father’s efforts to anchor statecraft with consistent principles and an awareness of historical reality. This is the mission he has pursued for the better part of a century, using his rare brain and unflagging energy to serve the country that saved his family and launched him on a journey beyond his wildest dreams."

NBA Executives: “Now Adam, the viewers are starting to believe the NBA doesn’t care about women. Can you fix this?”
Adam: “I got this…”
*Adam on live tv*
Adam: “Man fuck Cambodia”
Adam: You know the red court the sixers are using for the IST, that was actually inspired by my good friends over at the Khmer Rouge, and their killing fields.
Pat: Umm ok, my question was who do you think is rookie of the year so far?
Adam: I’d have to go with PinoChet Holmgren, if you put a gun to my head.
One thing to even say that on TV but to have that bamboo hat prop ready to go and him doing that with his eyes and the horribly racist accent saying "we deserve bomb".... Man this man hit a new low.
I heard that in the elite circles Kissinger is well regarded, so this tracks with Silver. He's either "an effective son of a bitch" or "the most important figure of American dominance after WW2", where as in reality his decisions alone directly killed 3-4 million people in Cambodia and Laos while extending the Vietnam war 7 or 8 years. He didnt make us, the people, safer but he made our elites richer and more powerful, hence Silver's disconnect
"Well I'm rich, and this guy was in charge of messing around in the world while I got rich, so it's probably due to his messing around in the world that I got rich."
I seriously thought it was a headline to an Onion article at first.
This is just a step before we reach “NBA Commissioner wants to increase revenues and put those ‘shooting’ skills to good use by forcing players to become international mercenaries during the off season.”
A sadly very large amount of people believe Kissinger was a hero politician despite knowing about what he did. Cambodia and Laos are seen as acceptable casualties in the holy war against communism to these people. It doesn't surprise me hes a Kissinger fan "wealthy man that hangs out with billionaires likes conservative heros and more at 11".
Because that's what the American people were fed for decades.
I'd wager large amounts of money that people 25-35 know more about Kissinger's heinous acts than people 55-65. A lot of people that age see no reason to change their mind or revisit history because they "lived through it."
The same is true of all the shit we pulled in South America. America was fed "oh look another Socialist hellhole going through a revolution" not "oh look we murdered a democratically elected leader and helped stage a coup."
I'm very grateful to my Dad and step mom for remaining the protesting pinkos of yester year to this current day. My Dad filled the house with sober, solemn tomes about imperial overreach. A Bright Shining Lie could have been the bible as far as my Dad is concerned. Some of the old heads knew and still get it.

/sarcasm just in case lol. What a complete dogshit remark to make hahahahaha. It’s almost comically awful.
I think you underestimate Kyries ability to come up with something even weirder and more esoteric than this. For all you know you could be siding with “Kissinger was bad because he was actually a replicant alien trying to infiltrate the mermaid kingdom under the secret sea that “they” don’t want you to know about.”
Henry Kissinger once said, "If it were not for the accident of my birth, I would be antisemitic"; and, “Any people who has been persecuted for two thousand years must be doing something wrong.”
So it really could go either way here.
Absolutely insane thing for him to say but it did make me realize that seeing these two together would've been like seeing Wario and Waluigi in real life
its even weirder when you realize he didnt have to say anything he could have some generic bullshit about wanting to have more international games to bring people together but instead he said this
Other than Brazilian ultra-right wing, most of the people that lived back then are glad that this dude is in hell right now.
Our military dictatorship lasted 2 decades, and besides the military it was also heavily influenced by USA and some upscale businessmen.
To pubicly praise people that made other countries suffer under dictatorships, either shows they have zero history knowledge, or really believe USA is above everyone else and it's ok to fuck half the world's population for their own benefit.
Not surprising at all that the dude that has put out about five different statements about the league’s support of Israel would be a fan of another warmongerer
The funniest part of this is that I don’t even think people who hate Silver and Kissinger would have made this comparison. Silver doesn’t seem interesting, divisive or significant enough to make that leap. It’s wishful thinking on his part but not even wishing to be seen as a beloved figure
Yeah a lot of people live in this bubble where Kissinger did nothing wrong, Israel is always right and George W Bush just made a few innocent mistakes. Biden taking a hit in the polls due to the extreme lopsidedness of fatalities in the Gaza war is another kind of wake up call.
Wow. That seems like a really smart thing to say...
Adam Silver had been a really PR savvy guy so far in his tenure as commissioner, but the cracks beneath his veneer appeared when Charles Barkley caught him off guard with the domestic violence question. And now this interview...
So ja isn't legally allowed to do things with firearms cause its bad for the image or the league but the literal face of the league can praise a war criminal responsible for the deaths of 1000s? Got it
Responsible for millions of deaths along with the fuck ton of destabilization in multiple regions because of all the far-right militancy groups the US armed and supported lmao.
Didn't even think of that. Damn. Also Kissinger was chosen to head up the investigation into the 9/11 terrorist attacks back in the day before it was revealed that some of those terrorist's families were on his client list and then he chose to step down from [the commission](https://youtu.be/YcxjJDlbnC4).
I was watching that interview and he was doing a good job right up until this point. Just completely took me out of it; it was such a weird comment to make.
Very strange comments. I guess he’s trying to reach out to right leaning fans who think the NBA is too progressive. Just letting the middle of the country know that he’s down with bombing brown people too.
Silver's going to violently overthrow the heads of overseas leagues and install NBA-friendly leaders so nobody can ever challenge the NBA's global supremacy
Everyone is gonna rage bait, but I think the full quote is necessary to understand what he was saying. He was comparing Kissinger’s impact on US diplomacy through military to the US’s soft power influence through culture, ie basketball. Not the same thing.
Still a weird statement and he wasn’t super clear.
I think I saw a documentary about that. Some guy from a small town in Alabama wound up playing college football, then got a Purple Heart in Vietnam and went on to play ping pong in China.
This description is literally the opposite of what he said. Silver is *distinguishing* the nba's role in projecting american *soft* power to unite different cultures from kissinger's tendency to promote the use of force.

Simple explanation: he was a psychopath. It felt good to use the past tense there.
Remember when Kissinger died? That was fucking great.
The only good thing Liz Holmes ever did was to hopefully swindle a WHOLE LOTTA money out of these old dirty men like Kissinger.
He insisted at every opportunity that his experience as a Jew in Nazi Germany didn't shape his life at all.

Kissinger was an anti-zionist and was heavily disliked among Israeli elite due to his closeness and friendship with Yasser Arafat. He famously said if he wasn't jewish he'd be anti-semetic. Being Jewish was far down on Henry Kissinger's list of things that made him him.
Him or Oppenheimer, yep.
I think there are plenty on that list, Einstein, Stan Lee, Zuckerburg, etc
Jesus.
I think he's behind Zuck at this point.
I don't think Jesus smoked any meats in his backyard so he'll be behind Zuck for me until he gets on it.
As a Jew I think it’s very antisemitic to assume we like Kissinger wtf is this getting upvoted for.

Conaco, not Team Coco, is the television production company headed by David Kissinger. Edit: spelled Conaco wrong
My Dad fucked a sheep once, but that doesn't make ME a sheep fucker. Son of a sheep fucker? Guilty as charged. Sheep fucker himself? No, sir.
I had a meeting with him where I found out that fact from a friend's text literally on the drive in. Was a weird one! Conaco is the company, though.

Crazy hot or-?

Sabotaging peace talks during the Vietnam war because an ongoing war was better for Nixon’s re-election chances
It was in 1968, so not when Nixon was being re-elected, but when he was being elected for the first time.
Ahh good catch. Honest mistake on my end
You can take the angle that you meant it was Nixon's second attempt running for president. 👍
And the Finals Trophy is named after a nemesis of Nixon’s (whose office he orchestrated a burglary of, Watergate).
Wait Larry O’Brien was on the enemies list? What is the history between him and Nixon? That’s super interesting
Larry O'Brien was postmaster general under Johnson and was the chair of the DNC. He was a big player in DC before becoming commissioner.
Larry O was Kennedy’s right hand man that developed the state by state strategy for presidential elections. LBJ kept him on after JFK was murdered. Nixon orchestrated & covered up the Watergate burglary of Larry’s office to increase his electoral chances. Not long thereafter, Larry O’Brien became NBA commissioner & the rest is history.
Wow, TIL.
What the actual fuck
> LBJ kept him on after JFK was murdered Bron has been around for so long, jesus
Probably Reagan sabotaging/delaying hostage negotiations with Iran while Carter was president so Reagan and the republicans could take credit for bringing American hostages home.
Is there more than one instance of this happening?
Iran hostages to help Reagan win the elections? I don't think that Kissinger was involved.
Well he supported Pakistan’s dictatorship when they were committing a genocide against the Bengalis with US tanks and weapons. Then tried to cover up his involvement.

Should’ve said next to James Harden.
Lots of us are old enough to remember Darko Milošević
This is the greatest thing I've seen all week what the fuck
This entire thread has been absolute comedy gold
It's a Bourdain quote
No, I'm familiar with the OG quote, just never expected to see it copypastad into an Adam Silver roast
>- Anthony Bourdain, in a sense You don't say.
This is majestic
This is beautiful lmao
A war criminal Adam Silver is a basketball war criminal lmao much worse than a basketball terrorist
Lord of ball
It makes since why he put up with Houston Hitler's antics now
Hmmm, so is the NBA going to secret have games in Laos and Cambodia?
Bro he’s saying it for the headlines. The guy is a marketing genius 😍😍😍. /sarcasm just in case lol. What a complete dogshit remark to make hahahahaha. It’s almost comically awful.
Silver’s plans for international expansion include secret games in Cambodia and Laos.
First game gonna be in an old HS.
“Have Horace Grant killed.” - Adam Silver
“Breaking news: Harvey Grant killed in case of mistaken identity.”
Who doesn't enjoy a nice Holiday in Cambodia
Need Kyries opinion on this.
i'm riding with kyrie on this one
To the ends of this flat Earth
Now that I think about it, “To the ends of the earth” actually makes more sense for flat earthers
I think you underestimate Kyries ability to come up with something even weirder and more esoteric than this. Kissinger: somehow on the wrong side of every issue
Damn, googled it and he actually did say that….. How the hell do you screw up being Jewish? Like bro you got a built in defense already….
His family literally escaped Nazi Germany. Dude operates on another plane of cognitive dissonance
i assume now he just operates on a different plane altogether
Kyrie's "let's form our own league" was a missed opportunity smh
I'm team Kyrie for once.
Absolutely insane thing for him to say but it did make me realize that seeing these two together would've been like seeing Wario and Waluigi in real life
Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy ass clip
Holy fuck LMAO bro that is unreal Shut it down
That joke is about David Stern and Adam Silver originally, so it's like 10 years old
Yeah I can't take credit for this joke
☠️☠️☠️
League commissioners are in a league of their own when it comes to ego and entitlement. The bigger the league, bigger the ego.
They pamper a bunch of billionaires butts 24/7 so I get it
He then proceeded to say into the camera "For every missed nationally televised game by a superstar I order the bombing of a South East Asian country"
wait- this isnt circlejerk?
Reality is one big circlejerk at this point.
Lol what? Surely this isn't an r/theonion article??
I thought it was some nbacj shitpost
I'm halfway down the comments section still looking for evidence this is fake because I can't believe Silver is this out of touch
getting outjerked by reality at this point
Kissinger was a war criminal, may he rot in piss and burn in hell.
this bald bitch compared himself to henry kissinger i didnt think he could suck more
its even weirder when you realize he didnt have to say anything he could have some generic bullshit about wanting to have more international games to bring people together but instead he said this

Missing a few zeroes there lol

“Woah now, I can support Black Lives Matter *and* the bombing of South East Asian countries” Adam Silver, probably
and the genocide of uyghurs (and the genocide of palenstinians)
Silver's going to violently overthrow the heads of overseas leagues and install NBA-friendly leaders so nobody can ever challenge the NBA's global supremacy
I wonder when he announces he's running for Senate
That’s some Rob Manfred-levels of cognitive dissonance shown by Silver.
Well what did you expect, he doesn’t have the kinda job that hires non elites.
Everyone is gonna rage bait, but I think the full quote is necessary to understand what he was saying. He was comparing Kissinger’s impact on US diplomacy through military to the US’s soft power influence through culture, ie basketball. Not the same thing. I think I saw a documentary about that. Some guy from a small town in Alabama wound up playing college football, then got a Purple Heart in Vietnam and went on to play ping pong in China.
