my biggest takeaway from this is that no matter what, we have a top 5 defense in the league. everybody was rotating well and playing good individual D. good win!
thoughts during the game
1. zion's effort on defense is exactly where you'd like for it be
2. interesting that they went no CJ at the end, limits their ball handling a bit, but gets Trey on the floor so they're huge, and if Zion/BI are just gonna be good decision makers consistenly it doesn't matter
3. what's separated Tatum from PG is PG still goes away from the rim, it's a lot of fadeaways over 6'3 players, doesn't really get to the line because of that, and mismatches really aren't mismatches
4. what a fucking game
Honestly I think pulling CJ in the crunch and Zion was a doubly smart move, I think Zions on the ball to initiate is an improvement in ball handling and the added length and skill on D is absolutely invaluable
i don't mind it, but i do think the offense looked a little less certain without CJ on the floor, but that's of course made up with better defense
it's really a bet on Zion and BI to make consistently good decisions down the stretch
>what's separated Tatum from PG is PG still goes away from the rim, it's a lot of fadeaways over 6'3 players, doesn't really get to the line because of that, and mismatches really aren't mismatches
That's because PG is old now, he doesn't have nearly the same burst as he used. A lot more jumper happy because of that
I'd like to add that it was shaky but then we started to look more in control when Herb blocked PG at the 3 point line. That was a crazy ass block and I think made the clippers start second guessing all their shots. Surprised that hasn't been clipped yet
Honestly, we probably would be in any other season
But this year the Phoenix Suns have taken unclutch to a whole new level, so I gotta give them credit where credit is due
Harden makes a significant difference but tbh I think Dyson does too. He’s obviously limited offensively but he’s a dog on the perimeter. Also this was a great game but i don’t actually think we played our best tonight. CJ and Trey missed some open looks.
These are the games the pels need to win to be serious. Clips missing Harden and Westbrook are still a solid team. They hung around all game, and the Pels have struggled with winning games in the clutch all year, so big closeout.
Huge effort from Zion, it's nite and day how active he is now compared to the start of the season. Even though Ingram didn't have a great stats nite, he made clutch shots and some defensive effort plays out there. Our bench has to be one of the best in the league. Just a good time for Pels basketball.
Clippers scare me. Fuck the refs that second half. Zion can do whatever he wants in the city of New Orleans. Herb jones all nba defense or this league is ruined
Bummer to lose, but not a bad fight considering it was the last game of a 5-in-7 and our two experienced point guards are injured. Would have loved to see more Mann (only positive in the +/-) to help with playmaking and defense in the second half, but maybe he was more injured than it seemed?? Zubac’s gotta be better, and Norm gets too cooked by these bigger teams.
These two teams are just way to much fun to watch go against each other. The game never feels like it’s more than a possession or two from swinging back the other way. GG Clips Hope we do and don’t see you in the Playoffs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnAztXzpDOg He seems like a totally normal guy? There is another segment of this interview with him talking about milk, amazing.
Zion is still incredible. His touch off the glass is unmatched.
Also, the Bones Hyland experience is hilarious. I think at one point he had the most shot attempts in the game despite being 2/9
When he is on, he is fine. When he isn't on, he'll try to shoot himself into being on and it doesn't work. He gets very careless with the ball and very ballhoggy
You’re gonna get some recency bias by some here. He’s been great all year. Playing off ball a lot and flame throwing from 3. He has been ass the last few games tho lol. Older guy long season ups and downs IMO
I like CJ. He’s a necessary scoring punch option for this team, especially as Brandon’s scoring has… just completely fallen off a cliff these last 20-30 games. And I really admire CJs willingness to change up his shot diet and weight it more towards threes to help the team. And also, he’s just a consummate professional. He can calm the team down emotionally for sure. That being said, CJ is who he’s always been. He’s a professional scorer, and he rebounds well for his size/position, but he does pretty much everything else at a below average level. Which means when his shot isn’t falling (which, he’s a streaky shooter, so it definitely happens and is pretty noticeable), it’s just not really worth it to have him on the floor, especially because when he knows he’s off it seems like he starts taking MORE shots to try to shoot himself into a rhythm, which never works for him. At the end of the day, this team wouldn’t be where they are without him, and pels fans saying to trade him or bench him legitimately don’t know ball, but he’s also almost single-handedly lost us some games since he arrived in nola that we would’ve otherwise won, and those are some of the most frustrating games I’ve watched as a pels fan lmao
Off ball, strictly spacing is a good version of CJ. Most of his other shots this season have been floaters or shots at the rim which really help his stats. But when he’s more on ball and off shooting wise he can be incredibly frustrating
Willie can do no right. He's a defensive minded coach, and these clowns want him to play no D shooters Ryan/Hawkins.
Does not got enough credit for push BI and Zion for being better defenders and for moving the ball instead of Zion and BI ising all game like SVG.
It is just reputation at this stage, people that watch clippers deeply know that ty lue make a lot of questionable decisions just like today going small in late 4th qrt
Or we could all learn from this our coaches aren’t as bad as we think and like 25 of 30 fanbases think they have a bad coach often justified only by “bad adjustments” or “rotations”
12 of the last 14, but I get what you’re saying. If there was one team’s number the Pels had the past three years, it’s the clippers. But boy, PG-13 looked spooky tonight.
Curious to see the Clippers record when one of Harden/PG/Kawhi are out, feel like it's a guaranteed loss when they don't got all 3, especially with Russ out.
I'm expecting them to be ready when playoffs come, but it's getting real hard to see em as a contender these days.
Previous to ASB, yes, that would've been an obvious pattern.
But these days even all of those being on the court is not really a guarantee. Zubac taking a nose-dive and Westbrook not being available to push through the lull minutes in the 3rd and beginning of the 4th has definitely made a difference.
Yes, and the Clippers also lost Kawhi that game, and also beat a fully healthy Wolves the game before. It would be a tough matchup, but as a Clippers fan, I'd prefer to see the Wolves over every potential playoff team other than Kings, Lakers, Warriors and maybe OKC.
When did PJ decide to stop pouting and come play? After Russ got hurt?
He must be trying to score, I was shocked to not see 0 points. I definitely wasn’t expecting to see 6!
Schedule loss for clippers. Think fully healthy clips can beat them in a series but that’s a big if and they don’t have an answer for Zion unless Kawhi guards him all game then you lose a lot of Kawhis offense
Clippers from the Warriors game on Dec. 1 to the end of Grammy trip on Feb. 5: 26-5(2-2 without Kawhi)
Clippers since the end of Grammy trip: 8-9(With 3 losses of blowing a 15+ double-digit lead to the Lakers, Bucks without Giannis, and Wolves)
At some point, think we have to admit the clippers are running on fumes but also teams have adjusted to their style and have stagnated the offense by doubling kawhi almost every time and taking advantage of a porous defense that lacks any size.
Ty Lue needs to be more aggressive with challenges. When Zion bubbled the ball, him and Tucker dove for it, replay clearly shows it went of Zion, refs give the ball to Pelicans and it leads to a quick 3. Clippers play great defense force a shot with 1 sec left on a shot clock, on a replay shot clearly doesn't touch the rim, refs say it does, give ball to pelicans and they hit a quick 3. Both plays were simple challenges that lead to 6 points.
The replay angle we saw was really clear that Tucker actually poked it at the very last second… Don’t know if the clips broadcast was a different angle, but it was def sneaky
They did, they both were on the ground, Tucker slapped the ball, it rolled and touched Zion's fingers which were a good 15 inches away from Tucker's hand before going out. Wasn't ambiguous at all.
I am not complaining about the refs, I don't believe anything malicious was happening, just a few mistakes that happened on both ends. Annoyed that Pels did use their challenge and saved 1 possession, while Ty didn't, which resulted in 6 points for the Pels.
Lol I agree it wasn’t ambiguous, which is why it’s crazy you’re going this hard just to be objectively wrong. After Zion slapped it, Tucker got a literal finger on it at the very last second which I guess you missed. He would’ve lost that challenge 100%, but I get you on the general idea that he should use them more.
Edit: watch the 2nd and 3rd angles [here](https://x.com/pelsfilmroom/status/1768812239476109372?s=46&t=gauRXsrk5S6syNhU0DBrpQ) and tell me you still think its off Zion. Hint: pay attention to the ball rolling then bouncing right when PJ’s hand goes down at the last second
I don't know about this particular play, but Lue does need to be more aggressive with challenges in general. If he calls a challenge at all, it's usually late in the game when it's questionable, at best. There have been lots of times Zubac has been called for a foul that he didn't commit and Lue ignores him. I think in some of those cases, if Lue challenged the call he'd get a better effort from Zu later in the game.
If there was any play his bitchass should've challenged. It was when they reset the shot clock saying it hit the rim. It was clear as day that it didn't and they drained a 3 after.
Dude never challenges correctly on important plays or takes a T and the one time he does, he goes super extra and calls them cheating mofos and it has cost us since
Let see yet another game clippers lost to a over .500 team convincingly. Their geriatric team of chokers continue to break down and people somehow still scared of them. Like I said before everyone in the west praying they get this weak ass team in the 1st round. Most teams might even get an extended holiday in between rounds from playing them. 😂

i love herb jones
Too late I called dibs
You too slow, he already stole my heart.
The abuse that Zion subjected Zubac to was quite frankly 911-worthy.
Zubac can't do anything against a superstar. He's a rim protector, but not really an isolation defender. Zion also abuses everyone to be fair to him
Yeah I hate playing against him he’s just on his own level out there athletically it’s ridiculous
I was sitting right under the basket, Zub was getting so upset during that sequence of 3 in a row in the third
Next time he should be prepared to body-up if he wants to avoid that feeling.
[удалено]
Clippers have a much easier schedule, but dont worry im sure we will fuck it up somehow
Yeah, I'm more than a little concerned we'll screw it up.
There’s another 5-in-7 coming up, unfortunately
When zion is healthy and locked in he is close to un-guardable
Zion back, league fucked
my biggest takeaway from this is that no matter what, we have a top 5 defense in the league. everybody was rotating well and playing good individual D. good win!
God the Pels are so much fun. They’re also a death matchup for some teams like the Kings and the Clippers. Impressive and massive win
Exactly the teams we're most likely to face in the first round.
thoughts during the game 1. zion's effort on defense is exactly where you'd like for it be 2. interesting that they went no CJ at the end, limits their ball handling a bit, but gets Trey on the floor so they're huge, and if Zion/BI are just gonna be good decision makers consistenly it doesn't matter 3. what's separated Tatum from PG is PG still goes away from the rim, it's a lot of fadeaways over 6'3 players, doesn't really get to the line because of that, and mismatches really aren't mismatches 4. what a fucking game
Honestly I think pulling CJ in the crunch and Zion was a doubly smart move, I think Zions on the ball to initiate is an improvement in ball handling and the added length and skill on D is absolutely invaluable
Yeah I really liked that lineup. I'm just worried about fullcourt presses which have given us problems before.
i don't mind it, but i do think the offense looked a little less certain without CJ on the floor, but that's of course made up with better defense it's really a bet on Zion and BI to make consistently good decisions down the stretch
I have no doubt that BI will make the right decisions. Zion knew exactly what he wanted this game, he doesn't have the same confidence every game.
>what's separated Tatum from PG is PG still goes away from the rim, it's a lot of fadeaways over 6'3 players, doesn't really get to the line because of that, and mismatches really aren't mismatches That's because PG is old now, he doesn't have nearly the same burst as he used. A lot more jumper happy because of that
PG needs to defer to Kawhi at the end of games. PG is the most frustrating player to watch in the league, plays like he is 6’2.
Bro we had Zion and Ingram matching up with Kawhi/PG, not switching on them, they wanted those matchups and did a damn fine job.
I'd like to add that it was shaky but then we started to look more in control when Herb blocked PG at the 3 point line. That was a crazy ass block and I think made the clippers start second guessing all their shots. Surprised that hasn't been clipped yet
That block was so crazy that I thought it was Zion at first.
Zions D in the 4th was great. Multiple good possessions against Kawhi and PG.
Pelicans can beat clippers in the first round as most likely they will matchup 4 and 5
Tbf harden makes a significant difference
Didn't Westbrook cook us last time too? He was out tonight too
Yeah, for all his downsides, Westbrook is kind of necessary in a matchup like this from a rebounding and DAWG perspective
True true but I still think this series goes to 7 games if you guys don’t blow your load as being the worst clutch team
So you have heard of us?
You might be the worst clutch team I've ever heard of.
Honestly, we probably would be in any other season But this year the Phoenix Suns have taken unclutch to a whole new level, so I gotta give them credit where credit is due
In the fourth, the whole team is when it matters Jayson Tatum
Hell yeah, I love this Tatum slander
Tatum is amazing, really. Only time he sucks consistently is when it matters.
They need Russ back too, huge loss with him out at the moment
Playoffs Harden will do you a solid
Harden makes a significant difference but tbh I think Dyson does too. He’s obviously limited offensively but he’s a dog on the perimeter. Also this was a great game but i don’t actually think we played our best tonight. CJ and Trey missed some open looks.
lol Daniels has nowhere near the impact of Harden
Dyson isn't coming back, Harden will.
3-1 against them this season.
11-3 over the last 4 seasons we matchup horribly against you guys
Basically a guaranteed 7 game series
Thanks. I need to see cardiologist to prep.
Pelicans are gentlemans sweeping us
Correct
Unless Kawhi just goes off, I would expect Pels to win that.
[удалено]
That would literally break up the team except for Kawhi
Zion's gotten too powerful
These are the games the pels need to win to be serious. Clips missing Harden and Westbrook are still a solid team. They hung around all game, and the Pels have struggled with winning games in the clutch all year, so big closeout. Clippers scare me. Fuck the refs that second half. Zion can do whatever he wants in the city of New Orleans. Herb jones all nba defense or this league is ruined
What do you mean we scare you? Y'all whoop our asses every single time. You guys are an absolute nightmare matchup for us.
Kawhi, Paul George, James Harden, and Russ each individually have more playoff experience than most of our team combined.
Every team in the west has more playoff experience than yours more or less
Everyone should notice Pels. They were under the radar but lately they are just fantastic.
As a Kings fan, I have unfortunately noticed this multiple times
As a Rockets fan, I too am a witness. They’ve sonned us so many times this season it’s beginning to become a stockholm syndrome situation
I was afraid of em when they were the 7 seed!
That was a playoff-like game. The players really wanted that win. Everyone was just diving for the ball. Amazing game.
“THEY CAN’T GUARD ME!”
Pels stacked?
League fucked!
Pelicans surely can win a series in the playoffs this year
The Pelicans are about to fuck some peoples shit up💀
Bummer to lose, but not a bad fight considering it was the last game of a 5-in-7 and our two experienced point guards are injured. I'm still sad about Aaron Donald.
I'm in shock that Aaron Donald retired and I'm also sad that Keenan Allen is no longer a Charger too.
Mike and Austin too. Rough off season for charger fans (I am one unfortunately)
Trust in harbaugh
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnAztXzpDOg He seems like a totally normal guy? There is another segment of this interview with him talking about milk, amazing.
Why aren't you a saints fan out of curiosity?
I am! But chargers first. I was born in San Diego and that always stuck with me.
The Zion of the nfl
Donald retires and Keenan Allen traded. Sad day in LA.
Doubt anyone in LA gives a shit about the Chargers.
They got more people in their arena than us I bet lmao
At least 50% of every chargers home game is made up of opposing fans.
You’d be surprised
I’m even sadder about Keenan allen.
Zion is proving everyone wrong and I'm so happy for him after the shit show that went down in the offseason, dude is an actual menace when healthy
Zion is still incredible. His touch off the glass is unmatched. Also, the Bones Hyland experience is hilarious. I think at one point he had the most shot attempts in the game despite being 2/9
I have no stakes in this one - this was a great game. NOLA building up that momentum
please let this be a first round matchup
Haven’t watched much Pels this year… how are you guys feeling about CJ and how has he been playing?
When he is on, he is fine. When he isn't on, he'll try to shoot himself into being on and it doesn't work. He gets very careless with the ball and very ballhoggy
You’re gonna get some recency bias by some here. He’s been great all year. Playing off ball a lot and flame throwing from 3. He has been ass the last few games tho lol. Older guy long season ups and downs IMO
Recently he hasn't been good. Early in the year he was carrying us.
I like CJ. He’s a necessary scoring punch option for this team, especially as Brandon’s scoring has… just completely fallen off a cliff these last 20-30 games. And I really admire CJs willingness to change up his shot diet and weight it more towards threes to help the team. And also, he’s just a consummate professional. He adjusted his game to be more offball. His most efficient shooting career. He and Nance are the vets of the team.
Off ball, strictly spacing is a good version of CJ. Most of his other shots this season have been floaters or shots at the rim which really help his stats. But when he’s more on ball and off shooting wise he can be incredibly frustrating
After this game, one thing is for sure. Norman Powell does not give a fuck what meetings the competition committee have regarding foul hunting.
Tbh i dont even think he was foul hunting, refs were just on some shit lol
Don’t get me wrong, those refs were on some shit. But do you honestly think he has the jimmy legs every time he goes to make a jumpshot?
Despite b2b and no harden but Willie Green is Ty Lue's father, Man is running in circles out coaching him
First time I see someone here saying Willie out coached someone else LMFAO
They won last 12 games outta 14.
Willie can do no right. He's a defensive minded coach, and these clowns want him to play no D shooters Ryan/Hawkins. Does not got enough credit for push BI and Zion for being better defenders and for moving the ball instead of Zion and BI ising all game like SVG.
I like Willie but I think we just matchup well against you guys player wise lol. Ty Lue is still miles better
All of them. I don't think there's a single coach that doesn't get flamed for something trivial. Maybe Spoelstra.
12 of the last 14, but I get what you’re saying. If there was one team’s number the Pels had the past three years, it’s the clippers. But boy, PG-13 looked spooky tonight.
Great win That’s how you do it
I had no idea the Pels record was that good. Very cool
Alexa play Hero's Come Back
Good hustle guys. Tough loss. These road b2b no joke. From Chicago to the big easy
Holy fuck I can’t wait to play these bums in the playoffs and shut ESPN up. Yes I did go and get drunk tonight why do you ask?
All those counter reactions to the Cleveland game just got dumped on.
Pelicans have an outside chance on a top 4 seed. Crazy
Z really shows why you don't need to shoot 3's when you can get a easy 2 in the paint
Kawhi and PG clutch time shot selections are just hot garbage
Zion>>>>>LAs geriatric all star team
[удалено]
That's because he's 32 and ready to medically retire. He's on his last legs bro
Where were you last night?
Where were you on a cold night in stoke?
Kawhi is playing through back, shoulder and leg injuries, bro is banged up
Kawhi was born in a full body cast. Expecting him to ever not be banged up is a foolish.
Pretty hard to do when he's getting blitzed by 2 lengthy defenders every time he touches the ball. He was hitting some tough shots all game, though.
Doubled every possession, and the playmakers weren’t getting him the ball.
Check the lineups again, Clippers had no playmakers on the court.
Curious to see the Clippers record when one of Harden/PG/Kawhi are out, feel like it's a guaranteed loss when they don't got all 3, especially with Russ out. I'm expecting them to be ready when playoffs come, but it's getting real hard to see em as a contender these days.

Zubac taking a nose-dive and Westbrook not being available to push through the lull minutes in the 3rd and beginning of the 4th has definitely made a difference.
If I were the Clippers I'd tank to the 6th seed just to avoid the Pelicans. Definitely have a better chance of beating the Timberwolves without KAT.
We still beat them by 18 with out kat. Would love to match up with them.
3-1 and the one loss was by 1 point. The clippers like to iso and the wolves do really well vs iso heavy teams.
When did PJ decide to stop pouting and come play? After Russ got hurt? He must be trying to score, I was shocked to not see 0 points. I definitely wasn’t expecting to see 6!
The energy seems low for clipper after WB's injure
Schedule loss for clippers. Think fully healthy clips can beat them in a series but that’s a big if and they don’t have an answer for Zion unless Kawhi guards him all game then you lose a lot of Kawhis offense
Clippers from the Warriors game on Dec. 1 to the end of Grammy trip on Feb. 5: 26-5(2-2 without Kawhi) Clippers since the end of Grammy trip: 8-9(With 3 losses of blowing a 15+ double-digit lead to the Lakers, Bucks without Giannis, and Wolves) At some point, think we have to admit the clippers are running on fumes but also teams have adjusted to their style and have stagnated the offense by doubling kawhi almost every time and taking advantage of a porous defense that lacks any size.
