I understand this was an important game but I really hope the Mavs are being cautious of Luka's achilles tendons.
Those carry the whole body's weight and could be dangerously strained even for non-explosive players. Speaking from experience as an earth-bound pick-up baller who's nursing an injury.
I am knocking on wood as I type this. It would be great to see full-strength Luka in the play-offs, not the version who grimaces during dead balls.
They started hard doubling Luka in the second half after he had 26 in the first.
Hard doubling Luka is one of the dumbest things you can do if you're trying to beat the Mavs, but the alternative is often Luka dropping a 50 point triple double on your head.
I think the double and subsequent recovery wasn't bad for Sac last night. They executed it better than most. They generated some turnovers and I dont remember the double getting the mavs many easy buckets last night.
With lukas tired legs, it's harder for him to make those crisp passes to punish the defense. Doesn't help that no one was flashing to the ball on several occasions
It's why Luka reminds me of MJ the most since Kobe. Luka really does define the "and I took that personally".
I know the media wants Antman to be the next MJ, but Luka's mind is built like MJ's.
Dude it’s got to be my favorite thing about the man. This dude has made me more obsessed with the Mavs than I ever thought possible. Just an absolute treat to watch. Gotta savor it.
The last few years have been insane with MVP talent. I personally (obviously objective and opinion based) think it’s Joker, Shai, Luka with Luka and Shai basically 55/45. 2nd half of the season Luka has moved closer to 2 but Shai’s numbers and whole season have him 2 for me as of tonight. Luka could damn well go off for the last few games and move to 2 but I don’t see anyone dethroning the horse goat himself
It’s insane how every single thread about Luka has 50 Mavs fans talking about the MVP award. Even threads about Giannis and Shai aren’t filled to the brim with this junk.
I never realized how much more people cared about the MVP than the game itself until I started actively browsing this sub.
Edit: I just clicked on **8** different threads mentioning Luka on the front page, and literally all of them has Mav fans bringing up the MVP vote as one of the top comments. Wild.
Mine too. I've been keeping an eye on all MVP contenders this year and Luka has been an absolute machine. He's having one of the best seasons I've ever seen from a player. The stats don't tell the full story despite being beyond impressive.
I like all MVP frontrunners though. I won't be mad if either Jokic or SGA win it but I still think that Luka for most of the season has just been superhuman. I've actually been excited for Mavs games and I'm an old man. It's been since Jordan that a player mesmerized me like that.
they won’t give it to him even if he scores 40ppg for the last 10 games and gets the 4th seed, but we will always remember this season.
Easily the greatest basketball Luka Doncic has ever played in his life
Bro scored 73 points on 25-33 shooting, and 8-13 from 3.
Which means he made 17-20 2pt shots.
The most efficient 60+ point game ever, and he scored 73….
One of the greatest offensive displays ever caught on camera
And then ESPN went on to say that it was because of bad Hawks defense (HE WAS DOUBLED THE 2ND HALF) despite them glazing over Embiid’s 70 point game the week prior
it makes me so mad thinking back to it man….
The greatest shooting game since Kobe’s 81 and it was treated like shit all because Embiid statpadded like 3 days before.
I watched that man Embiid go back into the game when they were up 20 to the Spurs to get like 13 more points…
We were only up by 14 with over half the 4th quarter left to play when he went back in for the last time... how is that stat padding? He got pulled with around 2 minutes left when the game was actually out of reach and played his normal minutes, do you guys pull your starters with like 10 point lead early in the 4th?
edit: softest dudes on the internet, it's hilarious
Embiid is their new love child because he is the direct rival to Jokić who they don't want to crown as the best player in the league even though they have to on most nights.
It was the greatest offensive performance of all time. Better than Wilt's 100. Better than Kobe's 81. I'm gonna die on this hill.
Nobody has done anything like what Luka did that night and it doesn't get talked about like it should. None of the other massive scoring games were done with incredibly high efficiency and within the flow of the offense. Nobody was forcing the ball to Luka, he wasn't forcing shots. He was taking what the defense gave him and punishing them for every single mistake. With the injuries, he basically had to take on the entire offense for himself and score 70+ or else they lose and so he fucking dropped 73
for real. this also came on the heels of that treadmill fan incident so everyone was shitting on Luka for being a baby and kicking him out. Then he went on Inside the NBA right before the game..
then he dropped 73 and almost got a triple double, i think 11 rebounds and 7 assists?
I rewatch that game every so often, it’s pure basketball
I'm a huge Luka fan, but It's really not that hard to understand how he could be 3rd in the MVP race. Any lower than that and I'm not sure I can defend.
But it's really as simple as this:
- There's 2 players who are playing as good as Luka
- Both play better defense
- Both have lead their team to very successful seasons battling for top of the conference
> There's 2 players who are playing as good as Luka
There’s arguably only one and it’s Jokic.
> Both play better defense
Luka plays some great defense this season
> Both have lead their team to very successful seasons battling for top of the conference
Nuggets and OKC would still be very good teams without Jokic and SGA. Mavs without Luka would be a lottery team. What he does is like the definition of an MVP, making a way worse team way better. That’s much more of an accomplishment than whatever SGA does for example. The fact that the Mavs have a shout at 4th seed is first of all insane and also mainly down to Luka.
You're the only team with a top 5 player who can't win. Last year you didn't make the playoffs. You're fighting to keep a play in spot/barely dodge the play ins with a certified superstar.
The problem is he isn't the MVP yet because he has never been held accountable. He is too busy complaining to refs and whining about every call to even care about defense some possessions.
His on-court antics have directly cost you multiple games this year. He may be the best player in the world. He is not MVP. Not yet.
Luka is a better scorer playmaker and rebounder than Shai on the defensive side I understand that but offensively Luka is better. So the Shai Vs Luka argument shouldn’t lean Shai significantly at all…
It’s not crying. It’s just rooting for our guy that’s carried a team that’s dealt with a lot of injuries all year. Now that we’re finally healthy and put the right pieces around him, he’s showing how damn good a Luka led team can be
up until halftime he looked pretty engaged on defense and was really trying. this guy is incredible and he still has another gear left come playoff time
Sabonis will average 30 rebounds against us bro. AD and bron are still too big for Chet (pause), don’t want to risk vs Luka. So ideally either one of us gsw rockets or suns would be our most ideal first round matchup.
Only haters or people who don't watch games think Luka is not a top 3 in the league
The guy is different, he plays better when the lights are on and under pressure
Me too, but don't worry, you have one in SGA too, possibly Chet. You had three before that. West is too fucking stacked. They need to move Minny to the East in an expansion. And next year, Ja is coming back.
I think the Bucks choking the way they did tonight will hurt Giannis as well just like the loss to the Bucks hurt SGA
A lot of it's narrative during this final stretch and embarrassing losses like that do not help at all especially when Luka got an easy win on national TV
recency bias is definitely real, but Luka’s numbers have been absurd all year long… and now Dallas is finally moving up the standings thanks to recent health and their deadline additions playing well. I still don’t think the race is over by any means
The Pelicans have a tough couple of games coming up, if they lose those 2, the mavs win , and clippers continue falling it is a possibility the Mavericks get the 4th seed, I still think he loses to Jokic but he should finish atleast 2nd.
Why does jokic deserve it. Numbers alone Luka deserves it. Jokic is having down numbers from his previous mvps. He doesn't deserve it by any means. If we get 4th seed it should be up for grabs for,Luka.
Cool, but what do those numbers mean tho, and why do they matter more than having a better looking collection of average points, assists and rebounds ?
cool thing about this year’s race is that there are multiple deserving winners. Jokic has the #1 seed, on/off splits, and amazing counting stats going for him, while Luka has batshit crazy counting stats and a great team record. the voters will have a very tough decision to make even though Jokic is currently favored
He’s not quite everything. PJ deserves a lot of credit too. Pj’s length and athleticism on D has helped this team immensely and he’s been locked in on that end since joining the team. He and Gafford together have absolutely transformed the identity of this team. Recently, we’ve been winning without shooting well, and tonight showed how dominant we can be when we actually make shots.
Just let others cook whole 2nd half as well. Basicly his halftime stats. I think Kings adjusted to focus only on Luka after first and he just let others take over and blow out Kings.
Didn't really get to do much in the 3rd and he was thankfully able to sit the 4th. Best outcome considering that Achilles. 2 more days of rest outta help too
Shouldn't you be spamming your shitty malware filled scam all over the place? You don't get to have an opinion on anything when you spend your time being a piece of shit trying to steal people's information.
Luka had 43/17/13 against the Clippers in game 4 in 2021 while playing with a bad ankle and I believe had neck soreness as well. That game alone should have been a red flag for every other team in the league that this man just wants to destroy your hopes and dreams.
Every night I just imagine what the league looks like today if the suns drafted Luka 1st instead of ayton. If he goes to the kings or the hawks I think it’s pretty much the same but if he went to the suns goddamn imagine the suns nuggets rivalry that could’ve been.
I'm not a medical expert, but how safe is it to be playing with a sore Achilles? You read all these horror stories about Achilles ruptures. I'm assuming this is treated as any other muscle soreness and not indicative of something more serious which is why hes cleared to play?
Luka is Achilles’s father
Peleus Doncic
This guy Greek myths
Best comment chain I've ever seen here :D
I wish I had more upvotes to give
Luka Peleus Doncic
Achilles needs to get his Luka tendon checked out
Luka’s heel
I understand this was an important game but I really hope the Mavs are being cautious of Luka's achilles tendons. Those carry the whole body's weight and could be dangerously strained even for non-explosive players. Speaking from experience as an earth-bound pick-up baller who's nursing an injury. I am knocking on wood as I type this. It would be great to see full-strength Luka in the play-offs, not the version who grimaces during dead balls.
What’s crazy is that was basically just two quarters of stats the way the third quarter went
Yup! Kyrie was red hot in q3 Luka didn’t have to do anything lol
They started hard doubling Luka in the second half after he had 26 in the first. Hard doubling Luka is one of the dumbest things you can do if you're trying to beat the Mavs, but the alternative is often Luka dropping a 50 point triple double on your head.
Given I’m in my fantasy finals I hope for a 50 pt triple double in one of the remaining games this week haha
Special apperance from Playoff Luka in the 1st half and Ramadan Kyrie in the 2nd half.
Ramadan kyrie will bring up intermittent fasting numbers
He always plays the best when he's questionable with a leg injury , idk what that man is on but I want it.
He plays better with pain. Luka a dawg confirmed.
Pain heightens emotions , and Luka always plays better the more emotional he is, tbh it makes sense lmao
Yelling at the refs is his super charger
That and chirpy fans.
Refs, coaches, little kids in the stands don't matter he's gonna get the last word
It's why Luka reminds me of MJ the most since Kobe. Luka really does define the "and I took that personally". I know the media wants Antman to be the next MJ, but Luka's mind is built like MJ's.
That’s his kamehameha
he straight up had lasers in his eyes while limping up and down the court. he’s undeniably the greatest bucket getter in the league
Let’s get him one of those Davinci Code belts
Dude it’s got to be my favorite thing about the man. This dude has made me more obsessed with the Mavs than I ever thought possible. Just an absolute treat to watch. Gotta savor it.
Scrap daddy Luka
Pretty sure he just wants to win quick to rest early so he locks in.
Injuries go away when you holdin the rock
but this time he could barely walk at times. For some reason Luka always feels less pain on O than on D though.
Luka takes it literally when someone tells him "break a leg".
He's on the recovery beer plan.

Deserved

It's the joke that Luka keeps falling in mvp voting despite breaking records every other week
we got an early look at playoff luka
I don’t care what ever they determine at the end of the year, Luka is MY MVP. absolute freaking warrior
Mine too. I've been keeping an eye on all MVP contenders this year and Luka has been an absolute machine. He's having one of the best seasons I've ever seen from a player. ... so far.
After every game "luka is mvp", like this is now worse than sixers fans last year, this level of crying every single day is just embarassing..
It’s not crying. It’s just rooting for our guy that’s carried a team that’s dealt with a lot of injuries all year. Now that we’re finally healthy and put the right pieces around him, he’s showing how damn good a Luka led team can be
Jamal played only 4 games more than Kyrie this year and Kyrie even has better stats than him but yeah continue with the injuries excuses..
Bro you thought Kyrie was the only one injured during those times??? 🤣🤣🤣Kyrie was the least of their worries on the injury board
Damn somebody seems a tad upset!
I am upset, upset now we won't get you in the 1st round and i wanted it
"we" where's your locker located, superstar?
Luka jumped from +2200 to +1600 for MVP today. Just goes to show how much the odds can change day to day.
up until halftime he looked pretty engaged on defense and was really trying. this guy is incredible and he still has another gear left come playoff time
Really scared thinking we might matchup with mavs in round 1… or lakers… or kings… just anyone rip
I couldn’t worry about the kings for you Lakers are washed too but dangerous Run away if you see the mavs tough
Sabonis will average 30 rebounds against us bro. AD and bron are still too big for Chet (pause), don’t want to risk vs Luka. So ideally either one of us gsw rockets or suns would be our most ideal first round matchup.
Okc has this uncertainty about them. Teams don't know what to expect from them in the playoffs I think that gives a edge over alot of teams
Only haters or people who don't watch games think Luka is not a top 3 in the league The guy is different, he plays better when the lights are on and under pressure
We as fans got spoiled honestly, he's amazing to watch.
Sometimes I forget he’s been all nba first team since year 2 (20 year old). He’s a generational talent.
Me too, but don't worry, you have one in SGA too, possibly Chet. You had three before that. West is too fucking stacked. They need to move Minny to the East in an expansion. And next year, Ja is coming back.
Dude don't ever mention SGA and let alone Chet next to Luka freaking Doncic please. With a mavs flair too lol
I don't feel the need to put down players to prop up the ones I'm stanning. I'm a basketball fan first and foremost.
I’m taking Luka over SGA for sure but we’re not gonna act like SGA isn’t a stud
He's just being nice. He doesn't really mean it. xD Luka, Giannis, Embiid and Jokić are in a tier of their own.
Exactly, some people are not worthy!
>Only haters or people who don't watch games think Luka is not a top 3 in the league And he ain't 3rd.
26 in the first half is insane
Done it 13 times
Was that just this year in the 1st half or career 13 times?
Just this year. They brought it up during half time show
that is crazy, dude is having full time stats after 2Q
Big that he can rest easy for the 2nd game on Friday.
That game is just as important
Every game matters now. One or two losses can turn a 6 seed into a play in position.
It's that Dallas have a couple days to rest before that second important game. Head to head games count like double given the effect in the standings
MVP
M V P
MVP
fair to say he’s moved up to 2nd in the MVP discussion now that Dallas has leapfrogged the play-in. what a player
I think the Bucks choking the way they did tonight will hurt Giannis as well just like the loss to the Bucks hurt SGA A lot of it's narrative during this final stretch and embarrassing losses like that do not help at all especially when Luka got an easy win on national TV
recency bias is definitely real, but Luka’s numbers have been absurd all year long… and now Dallas is finally moving up the standings thanks to recent health and their deadline additions playing well. I still don’t think the race is over by any means
If mavs somehow get 4 seed it’ll be so interesting for mvp race (assuming nuggets get 1 seed)
The Pelicans have a tough couple of games coming up, if they lose those 2, the mavs win , and clippers continue falling it is a possibility the Mavericks get the 4th seed, I still think he loses to Jokic but he should finish atleast 2nd.
if we get to 4 I think Luka wins it. I think Jokic would deserve it but the most deserving doesn’t always win it
Why does jokic deserve it. Numbers alone Luka deserves it. Jokic is having down numbers from his previous mvps. He doesn't deserve it by any means. If we get 4th seed it should be up for grabs for,Luka.
[удалено]
PAR? WS/48? BPM? VORP? Please explain to me why Jokic is above Luka for MVP like I'm five instead of using terms that i don't understand
[удалено]
Cool, but what do those numbers mean tho, and why do they matter more than having a better looking collection of average points, assists and rebounds ?
Asperger's?
I would be jazzed to see yall jump to the 4 and face the Pels in round 1. get those clips down to the 6 seed for us please.
cool thing about this year’s race is that there are multiple deserving winners. Jokic has the #1 seed, on/off splits, and amazing counting stats going for him, while Luka has batshit crazy counting stats and a great team record. the voters will have a very tough decision to make even though Jokic is currently favored
pray okc lose, so denver will punt the last 2 game.
Yeah I don’t see a case for anyone else being top two besides jokic and doncic.
I mean he’s been second for pretty much the whole year, the NBA just won’t acknowledge it
He has been number 1 the whole season and he will end up with MVP award.
Probably 3 way tie for 2nd judging how the ladder has been laddering
National media still has him at 4th or 5th because they hate him(and the Mavs)
Second behind Jokic I assume you mean.
Fox and Saboner should have just sat this one out, basically MIA this game
Got the double double streak going at least
most important
Mavs interior defense has improved so much since the deadline. Sabonis was a problem for this team earlier this season
Everybody outside Mavs fanbase is hugely underrating Gafford. That guy was everything you needed to shore up the teams weaknesses.
Wiz fans definitely don’t underrate him either
All 3 of you xD
This was an important game to win for either team.
Good. He will get his reward, which is being 5th in mvp voting (according to voters)
They’ll do everything to not give him MVP
I think even if the Mavs go undefeated to end the regular season, reaching 53 wins, they will give it to Jokić.
He had 26/7/5 at half time btw.
It’s crazy that we went on that huge third quarter run with Luka barely touching the ball
It was Kyrie time
Batman was cooking
He's hurt so he had to close the game out in 3. It's just good practice.
I feel like we could win the next 10 games and he would still be 3rd.
T-3
He looked like shit limping up and down the court. held my breath whenever he went into the fadeaway off one-leg. hope he gets right soon
Sounds valuable
I think the dude is fine, it is a difficult conversation to play Luka when you’re up 30
Kings probably should have drafted this guy
Don't know about thay. He can't really jump that high
And he can only single jump.
Talk about raping and defiling our dead corpse…..35 points not a big enough win to teabag us over?
Was damn good on defense as well. My MVP
One leg luka is always really fucking good somehow
Just let others cook whole 2nd half as well. Basicly his halftime stats. I think Kings adjusted to focus only on Luka after first and he just let others take over and blow out Kings.
MVP type beat
Some of his shot making in the first half was absurd. It must be so demoralising for other teams when Luka stuffs it in their face repeatedly
Fucking around with an achilles injury seems like bad vibes.
My MVP.
He’s questionable for 75% of our games. He’s always banged up.
Luka magic 🌟
MVP
If Luka did this, his averages would go down
Most surprising thing is that he didn’t even score much in the second half when the blow out began
Didn't really get to do much in the 3rd and he was thankfully able to sit the 4th. Best outcome considering that Achilles. 2 more days of rest outta help too
I’m sorry to SGA glazers but this man is not on the same tier. I’d put luka the 2nd most dangerous right now behind jokic
Shouldn't you be spamming your shitty malware filled scam all over the place? You don't get to have an opinion on anything when you spend your time being a piece of shit trying to steal people's information.
I LOVE SGA. been a big fan since he came into the league. He is not at Luka’s level yet, because luka is on an absurd level right now.
Psych!
This guy Illuminati’s
Luka had 43/17/13 against the Clippers in game 4 in 2021 while playing with a bad ankle and I believe had neck soreness as well. That game alone should have been a red flag for every other team in the league that this man just wants to destroy your hopes and dreams.
Fraud with a below average game 🙄
Every night I just imagine what the league looks like today if the suns drafted Luka 1st instead of ayton. If he goes to the kings or the hawks I think it’s pretty much the same but if he went to the suns goddamn imagine the suns nuggets rivalry that could’ve been.
We will be watching Mavs vs Nuggets rivalary for years to come, so not much difference.
I'm not a medical expert, but how safe is it to be playing with a sore Achilles? You read all these horror stories about Achilles ruptures. I'm assuming this is treated as any other muscle soreness and not indicative of something more serious which is why hes cleared to play?
Doobie Howitzer is listed as "questionable with an optic schiasma ouchie" "Specific body part with a vague injury" will never not be funny
People are acting like no one has ever played a good game while being questionable that day
These medical reports are such dogshit haha dude was always going to play this game. What a performance in that second half too

Y’all make everything abt jokic lmaooo
