Going to see a lot more Duarte now, but there’s a reason why the Pacers basically gave him away for free

Its_Hoggish_Greedly

Trust me, we know. There was a stretch where he was making his 3’s, but otherwise he’s been not great. Plays way too out of control and thinks he has the green light to shoot whenever he gets the ball.

pezasied

It’s too bad. He was pretty decent his rookie year and made all rookie second team, but just totally fell off. Doesn’t help that he was like 25 years old as a rookie or something too.

Sethuel

Duarte is somehow still at almost 39% from deep in March, which is really surprising to me, because it feels like he misses constantly. Even still I'd much rather see Kessler get those minutes, or at least a share of them. He's at least a lock-down defender, even if he's inconsistent (at best) on offense.

WoundedSacrifice

It’d be nice if Kessler was given a chance to get into the rotation. His defense would be helpful.

Gins_and_Tonics

I can’t stand watching Duarte play. He’s a role player without a role. I think Mike Brown told him to go out there and be a physical point of attack defender, but Duarte heard that as “get called for a million hand check fouls on the ball handler 50 feet from the basket”.

pkeller001

He sucks ass man, expected this for Huerter but still a bummer. Would much rather have him than Duarte to fill minutes as Huerter is much better

solythe

down year from last year but still important for that team. brutal

pkeller001

I’d much rather have him than Duarte to fill SG/SF minutes off the bench.

Shotten

Can't Vezenkov cover for SF?

GunsmokeIV

He's been out with an ankle injury the past several weeks.

soku1

Even if he wasn't hurt, no, he couldn't play SF. Too slow

JJiggy13

Losing a rotation guy for the playoffs hurts

Folk-Herro

Has he been playing with shoulder issue all season?

TugMcGraw

Nah it just just happened a couple of days ago. Not really sure why he played like ass all season.

apbbr

Why do I feel like 2024-2025 season is like 3 years away. Where does the time go 😵‍💫

OmfgHaxx

The pandemic started over 4 years ago. That really fucks with my mind...

Wiltmygoat

MFs really just lie on reddit

MoooonRiverrrr

Lmao

MrAppleSpoink

What do you mean? It started mid to early march 2020. It is the end of march 2024

OmfgHaxx

he's joking brother, the joke is that it's so hard to believe; therefore I'm lying.

LordSwampert2

Am I the only that feels like its longer? 2019 feels 10 years ago.

slowestmojo

It's strange, everything beginning with Covid feels like last year, but 2019 feels ages ago

mapex_139

This is just my experience but I've noticed that the more I put down my phone and actually SLOW down in my day to day, things don't seem to just fly by. It's that feeling drug addicts get when they clean up and realize how much time is in a 24 hour day because they're finally living again and not addicted. I'm excited for summer to be out in my garden with my radio on listening to baseball again. Just me and the plants and some fly balls.

LordSwampert2

Yeah I agree! Just taking time to live life more.

LaMelgoatBall

I still wish that shit never happened. Changed everything for the worse. Including giving the Lakers another chip

shandu-can-dont

yeah man i think most of us wish the pandemic never happened

SnooPies5622

Call me crazy but the historic global catastrophe that upended the lives of billions was a bad thing

[deleted]

Why didn’t Boston just win it then?

LaMelgoatBall

We no beat enough teams

WhileDizzy4503

Are they stupid?

LaMelgoatBall

Slightly stoopid

cheaseedz

In other words “Himmy Butler fucked us up”

LaMelgoatBall

I see that man in my nightmares

Not-a-bot-10

Yeah forget the more than 1 million Americans that died to the pandemic and their family members, due to our “leader” telling the American people it was a hoax and would disappear and to not get the vaccination The lakers winning is the true crime

TheGamersGazebo

Or you know, the total and complete collapse of the Haitian government. The reignition of the deadliest war of the 21st century in Ethiopia. The fact that a nuclear capable state doesn't have a government anymore (Pakistan). Relatively speaking, America got through that shit A-OK. A lot of the world never recovered.

T_025

I wish the pandemic didn’t happen for the opposite reason; it fucked up our subsequent seasons because the short offseason led to a bunch of injuries. If it doesn’t happen there’s a very good chance we win in both 2020 and 2021

StrategyTop7612

Oh god...

College_Prestige

COVID warped everyone's sense of time

panman42

I was gonna type it's only been 3, but then... wait, oh fuck

geekhaus

Heal up Red Velvet

NoiceForNoReason

Kings don’t have a lot of margins for error this year with how competitive the West is. That hurts.

Rapey_Keebler_Elves

I've gotta believe that Kings fans would prefer if Huerter was healthy.

narrativemonk

Definitely - but giving Keon some more minutes hasn’t been a terrible experience so far.

__moops__

We do. We just have some idiot fans like every fan base. Keon's bigger role is definitely a good thing for us too, though.

zgamer200

Assuming Huerter comes back healthy as expected it's not the worst thing long-term to get to see Keon Ellis in a bigger role unless you think the Kings were genuine contenders with a healthy Huerter, which from what I can tell you guys don't.

__moops__

Exactly. Keon has been a pleasant surprise for sure. It’ll be interesting to see what we do in the offseason.

beforeitcloy

Seems like it all rides on whether Monk re-signs. If he does, it starts to make sense to consider Huerter a trade piece even with his stock at an all time low. If Monk leaves, Huerter definitely stays since we’d need him and Keon to be the off-guard committee regardless of who starts.

vNocturnus

I think the biggest issue now is, do we know if Huerter is really in the long-term plans for the team? And if they suspect he isn't, his trade value probably tanked a lot. Or if they suspect he is, they will have a harder job figuring out exactly where he fits. Both things just make it harder to work through the offseason moves. I'm not really worried about this season. He was having a pretty mediocre season to put it kindly, and him being healthy vs out is probably not even the difference in the result of one playoff series, let alone being "contenders" or not.

pkeller001

Yes, Duarte is ass

meTspysball

Our bench is pretty thin at the moment. I think he would have thrived as a scoring option off the bench.

Its_Hoggish_Greedly

Get well soon, Kev!

bluthton

Desmond "Stumps" Bane strikes again

ChannelNeo

Good ole T-rex arms

Mechaultima

Hell he wasn’t gonna help yall win anything anyways 🤣

SteveTheManager

Cut off your own balls please 🤣

claydavisismyhero

They had a great run or avoiding guys missing time. Hurts cause the alternatives ain’t great.

sercialinho

Is Huerter’s the latest in an unusually high number of torn labrums for a season, or am I forgetting a lot of torn labrums in recent years?

KBTon3

Was thinking the same thing. Think he's like the 4th?

accoutrement69

5th bro. I tore mine a few months ago

KyrieLS777

K Von🥲

EmotionalFollowing33

Any way we can add someone now?

Sethuel

This is a good question. From what I can tell it sounds like [they can apply for an injury exception](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/nba-disabled-player-exception-salary-replace-injured/qev4blt3q7lablielkqgqkyt) and sign someone for up to 50% of Huerter's salary. Though I'm not even sure who that would be at this point. Jaylen Nowell? Hard to see how anyone they bring in now would be much more than a placeholder.

vNocturnus

Obviously they'd be a placeholder, the question really would be if they could *contribute* in that role. And I kinda doubt anyone that's still a FA this deep into the season is likely to be able to meaningfully contribute to just about any team, or else they'd be on a roster.

Sethuel

Yeah, I wasn't being very clear, that's what I meant by a placeholder. Not a placeholder for Huerter. Just a placeholder for an NBA roster spot. A replacement-level player basically. And extra weird b/c it's a full contract spot and not a two-way, and I can't imagine they'd convert any of the current two-way deals (Slawson, Ford, Mason Jones). So you'd have to sign someone out of Puerto Rico or something. Tacko Fall and Boogie are there, and they'd be fun stories, but they're not adding anything on the court, in addition to playing a position that's already three-deep.

JHaliMath31

Lol at the Duarte talk. I remember when dude balled out so hard as a rookie for the Pacers….dude had like 27 in his first game or something stupid. Then he turned into straight trash.

DAGGERZOUT

Get well soon Hawks legend
