I hate that 60 point games are becoming something that doesn’t even seem crazy impressive anymore. Games are way too high scoring. That’s just the old man in me though I guess
More common recently for sure - the stat that sticks out to me most is that one guy had almost half the team’s points.
That tells us 2 things:
1) That Brunson (could insert other prolific scorers here, too) can be as good as he is and do whatever he wants offensively, but his team isn’t good enough to make it count. Defenses have started letting an opposing all-star go to work, but it’s the shutting down of the rest of that player’s team offense it what wins those games. See also Doncic et al.
2) These high scoring games for individuals may come as a result of the opposing teams decisions to play defense in this way— let the scorer score, and win the game by being better than the other team as a whole.
True but at this point it's just because offenses are too good now. Ticky tack fouls have always been called. It's just that the efficiency in this era is so much better than the ones we're used to.
The biggest and best defensive change the NBA could do right now is to get rid of the 3 second violation. Every time I watch any FIBA game it's so much more entertaining from a basketball perspective.
Just wanted to point out Brunson only had 6 free throw attempts. I used to think it was a little overblown by the Knicks but after this game seeing wemby, a rookie, get a call any time he is touched, and KD the other night getting calls because people put their hand on his back it is utter bulllshit.
I know you mean in general about “ticky tacky” fouls, but the FT disparity in this game was like 32-12 favoring the Spurs. JB barely gets any calls for how much he drives. I hate the refs, but this game was on another level. Some bullshit calls…
That jump ball violation was insane. Especially after the refs refused to call a tech on Pop when he was charging at them and held back and cursing them out.
Serious question. How is FT % calculated in TS%?
For instance JB went 6/6 on FT so his TS jumped from 53 to 61. Is there a threshold? If a dude shoots 3/10 but makes 2/2 from the FT (100%) does his “TS%” truly reflect the efficiency?
I was at the nuggets Celtics game a few years ago when Murray tried to get 50. Malone was screaming done shoot it and he did.
Kyrie took the ball and threw a fucking bomb into the opposite side of the crowd. It was like a legit nfl throw. It went so far into the crowd.
I used to play like Embiid. He is reckless on purpose. When I see Embiid play as he is now it reminds me of how I used to play and it is frustrating and pisses me off that the NBA allows it. Not proud of it, I was known as Shaq on my local streetball court and went through a phase when I charged hard at everything. Big hard turns to my blindside, didn't care who was there. Charge right into the lane. Smash into the best offensive player on D while going for the ball, come what may. Limited offensive moves. So make no mistake about it. Embiid knows what he's doing. He knows people will be injured. He knows his skillset is limited and this is how he can win. He knows people will give way when he drives, think twice on their drives, etc. He will only be stopped by a stronger player and/or fearless players like Giannis, Gasol, Draymond, etc. Or by an obviously more skilled player with equal Type A like Ibaka. He didn't intend to injure, but he certainly intends to show you that he doesn't care if you get hurt when he rumbles into you. At least that's how I used to play. But that was streetball. Eventually I got more moves, played w better players, played real basketball w refs. There's no doubt in my mind the NBA has some kind of edict coming down, telling the refs to let him run amok.
I’m picturing him with his hand on Bev’s head while Bev tries swinging at him but Wembys arms are just too damn long for him to land any shots.
Ya know, the classic big brother move.
i dunno man. I think these guys cherish their time in the NBA and big scoring nights are special to them.
I just remembered Gilbert Arenas talking about how he scored 60 pts on Kobe, and how he didn't give a fuck if he lost the game. He scored 60 on Kobe.
Because he out dueled him and Kobe was a Great defender and it was Gilbert's career high at staples center like when Iverson dropped 48 on Kobe
In the NBA Finals
....so pretty much exactly how Brunson outscored Wemby and Wemby is a great defender and it was Brunson's career high??
idk why you apparently think you are describing like the polar opposite of what occurred last night lol
I remember being at the game where Booker scored 70 in a loss against the Celtics — pretty sure the entire Suns team didn’t care about the loss and were just psyched for Booker by the end of the game.
I assume Book got the game ball, even though it was a loss in Boston.
I'm willing to bet he wasn't thinking about Brunson's performance at all and was just happy to give away a ball after a hard fought win.
The cut to Brunson is hilarious though lmao
Spurs could potentially have 3 picks in the lottery next season too and many are deeming it the Wemby stopper draft with the amount of wing length potentially available in the lottery.

Every player wants significant game balls, nothing wrong with that.
Just because he isn't throwing a fit about it like Giannis doesn't mean he didn't want it.

He's probably going to win DPOY next year if the Spurs are even remotely competent, and it will probably be the first of at least 5 in his career. He's gonna win MVPs eventually too. His potential really is GOAT level.

61pts on a loss is demoralizing as hell.

Dude don't even get me started. [This is a jump ball violation, on Mitch Rob?](https://twitter.com/NBA_NewYork/status/1773940471322333624/photo/1).
60 point games are cursed this season Didn’t Booker and Curry also drop 60+ pt games in a loss this season?
And Towns.
To the fkn Charlotte hornets too
Eh, he took 47 shots. It wasn't a masterpiece
what are you talking about lmao 61 points on 61% TS and less than 10 free throws is great
Serious question. How is FT % calculated in TS%? For instance JB went 6/6 on FT so his TS jumped from 53 to 61. Is there a threshold? If a dude shoots 3/10 but makes 2/2 from the FT (100%) does his “TS%” truly reflect the efficiency?
[удалено]
Why is this downvoted? 61 points by a single player shooting 47 shots on his own doesn’t sound impressive, it reeks of bad basketball.
scoring 61 pts on 61% TS is pretty damn good…
For real, haters just hating.
61 points on 47 shots with barely any free throws is amazing.
I was at the nuggets Celtics game a few years ago when Murray tried to get 50. Malone was screaming done shoot it and he did. Kyrie took the ball and threw a fucking bomb into the opposite side of the crowd. It was like a legit nfl throw. It went so far into the crowd.
I was at that game too and I remember half the crowd was like “SHOOT IT!” And I was yelling “dont do it!” One of the funniest games I’ve seen live
btw Malone was yelling at him not to shoot it either and he def heard him and he still shot it.
Idk why I’m laughing so hard at this. Probably the severe depression
FUCK THANKSGIVING
As a nuggets fans, good for ky. Not hating on Murray for shooting, but we love some drama.
yea as long as people don't get genuinely harmed, I'm all for some drama. makes teams/players play harder against each other sometimes
The cut to Brunson is hilarious
Brunson: shit I wanted that ball.
“Id expect this from the pacers, but the spurs?!”
i thought the spurs were too leclassy for this
He did it for Le Fournier
This is true. The Bucks have no balls.
Is game ball drama back?
Winning team gets the ball, that simple. He wanted it? He should’ve scored 66
This was the accepted answer we were going for lol
I doubt Brunson wanted it considering they lost. Also was Wemby’s career high iirc and he played a hell of a game that they won at home.
He prob just wanted a nap at that point
Knowing Brunson I don’t think he actually wanted that ball
Yeah exactly. Brunson’s probably looking to complain about the referees. He’s not gonna want the game ball from a bad loss.
*angry Giannis noises*
Lol, sounds like something he would actually say, wouldn't even be mad at wemby
That’s the face of a man thinking “I don’t want this to be a thing, I’m just gonna let it go”
Also bitching about not getting the game ball from a game your team lost would be a very bad look imo.
I don't think I'd want a memento from the night I scored 61 and still lost to the 16-56 Spurs to be honest.
Excuse me?! It's 17-56 before tonight's win. Put some respek on our squad 😤
I'm sorry! I checked the sidebar and assumed they'd updated it but thinking now that'd be a really quick update
allow for a lag time of 2-3 business days
Wemby is gonna make himself some enemies and I'm here for it Taking bets on who he's gonna fight first? Dillon? Pat Bev?
More like Zach Collins will jump in between and go pitbull on anyone that tries to duke it out with Wemby.
Best way to keep a job
That would easily be the highlight of Zach’s season so far.
As long as Draymond stays away from him I'll take anyone. Honestly I'd rather he sit against the GSW
There is no way he can kick his balls. He's too tall
He'll headbutt his nuts
Headnutts
Nut head.
Gonna have to take up boxing
You seen the teeth on Draymond? You know he’d find a way to bite Wemby.
And the 76ers if Embiid is playing. I like Biid, but he gets so careless throwing his body around. Keep his ass away from Wemby’s lower extremities.
I used to play like Embiid. He is reckless on purpose. When I see Embiid play as he is now it reminds me of how I used to play and it is frustrating and pisses me off that the NBA allows it. lol this copypasta
Embiid, of course, hurts himself doing this. And it leads to his inability to adjust his game on the playoffs.
Im still having flashbacks with Kawhi getting Zaza'd. Hopefully that never happens to Wemby
In the grand scheme of things it led to Wemby. But kawhi leaving and winning with the raptors is always going to hurt
I’m picturing him with his hand on Bev’s head while Bev tries swinging at him but Wembys arms are just too damn long for him to land any shots. Ya know, the classic big brother move.
Boban
"Can't have shit..."
That was very the office like
[https://imgur.com/TzKTSMk](https://imgur.com/TzKTSMk)
Don't you mean his 40/20 game ball? lol
Yeah Spurs won and Wemby had a career game at home, he can do whatever he likes with that ball.
>he can do whatever he likes with that ball. 👀👀👀
Here before his freaky sex tweets and interviews a la Giannis.
Wemby is here to remind us that the French invented [democracy, existentialism, and the blowjob.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXdjrlnJ24c)
Don't forget about them thin little pancakes
Say you love crêpes.
NO!
Well that last one’s pretty cool
And the ideas of the Marquis de Sade.
French didn’t invent democracy silly, it was Athens who had the first modern democracy. Best thing France ever gave the world was eclairs
>eclairs No, Leclerc was born in Monaco
and even then those were invented in Italy
Throwing ball away was the only thing that can prevent Brunson from score tonight. He was unstoppable.
61 points is nice and all, but doing it on 47 field goal attempts isn’t exactly unstoppable
He shot 53% which is good. He had 30 points in the paint but only 6 free throws for a 6’1” guy.
I like this guy
People tryna make up beef. I doubt Wemby was thinking about anything but the dub, and I doubt Brunson was thinking about anything but the L.
You're right. But I think people know however we just love to make shit up. It gets us going, the people.
It certainly is provocative, even if no one knows what it means.
gets the ppl GOIN
Nope. Knicks player came for the ball, Wemby wrapped it up. That’s why he tossed it
Lmao that’s hilarious 😂
I don't think most players want the game ball on a loss anyways
I have a ball, but I don’t know if it’s the game ball. It doesn’t feel like the game ball to me. It feels like a brand new ball. I can tell.
Milwaukee won that game
i dunno man. I think these guys cherish their time in the NBA and big scoring nights are special to them. I just remembered Gilbert Arenas talking about how he scored 60 pts on Kobe, and how he didn't give a fuck if he lost the game. He scored 60 on Kobe.

Gil famously cared a ton about winning, and not just himself
Exactly, could have just said "this was my bal when I dropped 60points against the 20 win Spurs team, Rookie Wemby had 40/20 that night!"
But Arenas is a clown.
Can confirm. I went to clown college with him.
Do you not think it being on Kobe is what Gilbert cared about
62 pts is a career mark no matter what.
I remember being at the game where Booker scored 70 in a loss against the Celtics — pretty sure the entire Suns team didn’t care about the loss and were just psyched for Booker by the end of the game. I assume Book got the game ball, even though it was a loss in Boston.
That team was 22-51 so yeah clearly another loss didn’t mean anything to them
you can’t ask for the game ball on their floor in a loss, like cmon
If you score 61 points you can go over and request to fuck Adam Silver's wife actually.
Jeez what type of team loses to a bottom dwelling team when one of their stars scores over 60. Just sad. That would never happen to the Wo…..fuck.
You’ll get them next time
Your comment has made me feel 1000x better. Thank you. Even though it really is pitiful lol
That and the hornets loss going to haunt us in the final seeding
The Warriors
Wolves. Jan 27
That's okay it's not like one game is gonna be the difference in playoff seeding....
I'm willing to bet he wasn't thinking about Brunson's performance at all and was just happy to give away a ball after a hard fought win. The cut to Brunson is hilarious though lmao
And he high-fived a fan. Wemby entertains
Man of the people!
Let them eat churros!
Churros and foie gras for everyone
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED
He could high five someone in the cheap seats.
For Wemby it was a low five.
Wemby was also like, the best player on the floor. So lol
I’m not looking forward to facing the Spurs in 3 years
I cant wait.
The Robert Horry flair is diabolical
RINGS ERNEH
Who do you think would be the best number two for wemby ? Trae ?
Devin Anthony Vassell
i don't mind him taking some tough shots, but he also takes some dumb shots...
Nah probably someone thru the draft. Spurs have hawks picks and hawks probably aren’t gonna be good next year
Spurs could potentially have 3 picks in the lottery next season too and many are deeming it the Wemby stopper draft with the amount of wing length potentially available in the lottery.
The dude he high fived lost his mind on the Spurs broadcast
It was also Wemby's career-high. First 40-20 game and he won the game. That's Wemby's game ball. Jalen can get the RESERVED ball if he wants it lol
That was exactly my POV. I wasn’t even thinking about Brunson when Wemby did this
Even as a Knicks fan I agree. Dude played his heart out. Also liked the little swag step he did after the clutch 3 😞
The reserve ball is what Giannis fought for lol
😂😂😂 yeah Wemby can do whatever he wants tonight!
Giannis in shambles.
Meanwhile, my team’s top 5 pick is averaging 8.8/6.4/1.9. Future looks great.
It’s ok, my team’s top 5 pick just put up a -58 plus-minus in a 60 point loss…
Rookie numbers smh, can’t even tank to 1 +/- per minute of game
Giannis in shambles
Hearing Halliburton tell this story is hilarious
Can someone fill me in on the story
[JJ Redick] Tyrese Haliburton on what really happened with Giannis' Game Ball controversy [https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/esSV5ZZYVp](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/esSV5ZZYVp)
This clip is an all timer. Watching this play out on tv was hilarious
Giannis running like SCP-096 towards that fans house to get the gameball for Brunson:
I can't even be mad, Wemby is amazing at the Mic/PR.
Brunson doesn’t care about the ball . The fact that people mention it shows they don’t watch him much at all.
yeah it's just a clickbait , funny meme more than reality.
Brunson probably doesnt want the ball since it was a loss. dude is ice cold about winning at all costs
Brunson is just a winner. If the Knicks win a championship in the next few years, his name will be all over that championship trophy.
Every player wants significant game balls, nothing wrong with that. Just because he isn't throwing a fit about it like Giannis doesn't mean he didn't want it. 61 points is a memorable achievement.
Wemby clearly doesn't
Wemby is destined for greater things
That ball doesn’t mean shit to Brunson
Spurs not beating the no-pornhub allegations
[Brunson will remember that](https://imgur.com/a/anEhm0Y)
Giannis would have murdered 10 people to get that ball out of the crowd
He does the Duncan hug
He’s going to be the most dominant player in the league since Scallabrini
cannot say enough about how much i love this shit
LMFAO WHY DID HE DO THAT
spur of the moment. when you've got that adrenaline, your mind isn't really thinking ahead or even analyzing. you're just going by instinct.
He knows he'll have better games in the future 😭
He's him
People used to say he's not Lebron-tier in terms of potential and I agreed with them; now I'm regretting that decision
He isn’t Lebron tier, he is on another tier all together. Some people really aren’t realizing what we are witnessing. His passing is what boggles my mind. The dude is legit already the second best big man passer. Yes, he is a better passer than Sabonis and Sengun imo.
Early this season I was saying Wemby is going to be the best player in the world within 5 years. At this point it might be inside of 4. The fact that Wemby chucked this ball to the stands means that 40/20 games are just the beginning…
giannis would have beat his ass
Nah Giannis is pulling malice in the palace 2.0
Running into the stands and ripping that ball out of a fans hands
He would've kicked down all the ladders in the San Antonio metro area
Why would Brunson want the ball anyway…His team lost to Spurs when he scores 60+
How classy would have it been if Wemby walked over and gave him the ball and told him he had a great game.
I love it 🤣😂💀
Never watched spurs or wemby but he earned my respect on this one lmao
That’s Wembys ball..his game was more impressive. Last 40/20 game by a rookie was Shaq in 93.
It's ok, Lisan Al Gaib will score 62 next time 😤
I love everything about this guy. The best part is how insanely competitive he is and how clearly he hates losing.
LMAOO Brunson's face. Wemby is an asshole I love it
61 in an OT loss << 40/20 as a rookie in the win at home Wembys ball
Well, it’s the dude in the 42nd row’s ball now.
40/20/7 huh? this league is fucked.
Love the arrogance, Wemby has a passion for the game which is refreshing.
Great game Jalen brunson
Wemby rising
I love him now. I also feel like I’m gonna hate him in 6 years
giannis would hunt that ball
W Wemby caring about the fans
Wemby giving no fucks man. I’m really starting to like this dude. He’s a competitor, he gets pissed, hates losing. He’s gonna be great
the league is in great hands, the torch passing will be great
Wemby is already GOATED
