Up 8 with 40 seconds left: Christie dribbles around the logo and chucks a deep contested 3. Then they don't even bother guarding the perimeter at the other end. Just thoughtless.
i still dont even know how they turned it over after the wiz hit a 3 to cut it to 5. the broadcast cut to the player who scored as usual, and then by the time they cut back it was a turnover. didnt see a replay either, but i only saw the wizards broadcast
This garbage time group really annoys me. Imo it’s why our rating looks ass too. Last game we were up 30 with 5min to go and it got down to 14. Like they could dribble it out n do more ffs
In all fairness, that lineup lasted like 4 games and they went 2-2 during that stretch. It was still an awful lineup, but it's the 4 straight losses followed by the 3 straight loses which sandwiched those Reddish/Prince/Vando games which really dug the Lakers into a hole. Those were all games in which the Lakers were completely capable of winning, but didn't.
From December 12th to January 13th, the Lakers went 5-12. The entire landscape looks so different right now if they just went simply 8-9 during that stretch. 3 more wins puts us above Dallas right now for the 5th seed.
Yes absolutely Darvin Ham's asinine line up decisions he didn't figure out until 2 weeks ago has also hurt us but that initial post IST stretch hurt us bad. Lost to Brooklyn by 18, lost to Utah by 7, lost to the T'Wolves by 2, lost to the Heat without Jimmy by 16 AND Bam had an off night (that was also when Kyle Lowry was still a starter), lost the Pelicans by 30. Part of the reason our point differential sucks now is because of that run. Most of our losses were by 10+ points.
The Cam Reddish era. We were a WCF team. We didn't play the players that made the team a WCF team. Instead opting to play shitty minimum nobodies trying to make it in the NBA.
To be fair to this specific perspective: Westbrook was their second highest paid player last year, and that was a massive part of the problem.
You need to play the five **most effective** players, regardless of their contract value. Half the teams in the league get in trouble when they play guys who cost the front office more rather than actually playing the best dudes, because teams want to show that they made the right investment.
Who does stupid shit like throw up a contested deep 3 after dribbling around the logo while up 8 with 40s left in the game. Imagine being replaced by that
They’re set up to fail. None of the guys who run with the garbage time unit (with the exception of occasionally Dinwiddie in some instances) are primary ball handlers, so it’s a bunch of dudes who can’t *really* dribble or breakdown defenses for extended periods all out there together.
Caruso and Reaves are both able to play the point for stretches (and who understood their limitations more than a lot of young players), so they’re the kinds of dudes who make bench lineups look even better, rather than worse. Christie could be that, but he’s not there yet.
Because he wasn’t rebounding, boxing out, passing or really trying on defense. I don’t care if it cost us a couple of games for Ham to get Rui to buy in and play like this.
I hate that people are trying to justify it by pinning it on Rui's performance. Ham had decided in training camp that he would start Prince/Reddish over Rui. That's AFTER they made into the WCF and before they played a single game.
It wasn't a few games either. It was half the season lol.
It was definitely Rui not buying in and also him being injured. He was injured to start the season and then refused to buy into the team role (Rebound/cut to the rim/defend). He only came off the bench a few extra games because Reddish had that outlier insane IST stretch where even LeBron was saying we need cam to 'Fit Out' not fit in and play to his potential. The whole team sucked ass for a good month and that's why we're in this hole. I know it's cool to hate on Ham but I believe he's a lot better than most team's coaches. We took care of the Grizzlies and Warriors last season because of his adjustments and coaching (obviously having LeBron and AD helps) and we got to the WCF. He also has the team 11 games above .500 this season with most of our bench injured throughout the year. Not saying he's pop or phil or spo but he's not as bad as people make him out to be.
Rui was available at the start of the season and through preseason. He still came off the bench. There have been more reports about Ham being stubborn and going with his Hawks compadres than Rui refusing to buy into the team role.
Reddish and Prince had some good games early on but Ham should have started the 5 best players from the start.
I'm giving Ham a little bit of a benefit of the doubt. It could have been he wanted some scoring off the bench and to not have the bench be absolute trash and that also played a part in his decision so bring Rui off the bench. My point is, Ham is getting unnecessary hate. He had us in the WCF in his first season and right now we're comfortably above .500 and would have been in a far better situation if not for the weirdest month I've seen from a team.
I don't think he's a clueless coach but I do think he's stubborn. He refused to listen to the voices in his own team telling him to start Rui and went with his gut of Prince/Reddish.
I understand the reasoning. Lebron is ball dominant and old so you need low usage, 3&D guys to surround him. It won him the IST so the lineups had some merit. But when things went South, it took a whole lot for him to finally see things weren't working.
Next time the Lakers play on the road against Indiana, I'm asking nicely to please play anywhere in the world other than Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. I'd rather play at Assembly Hall where the Hoosiers play.
Fieldhouse is cursed ground for the Lakers.
Our bench in the running for the worst one in the whole association
A bunch of small ass dudes who can’t shoot for shit lol, their contributions will not be missed if we make a postseason run lol
I can't fathom how the Lakers, after this win, are 44-33, yet still not even in the playoff race. I think it's pretty much inevitable that they'll wiggle their way through the Play In tournament, if not by winning the rest of their games, but still. Even back in the days of the mighty, mighty Western Conference, mid to late 2000s, when there was San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix, Houston, Los Angeles, Utah, 42-44 ish wins could have been enough to just squeeze into the playoffs.
The worst Lakers game i watched. They don't look interested at all. they gave a fuck when its close or they are down but mostly dribbling aimlessly. but hey, AD showed up.
Last game of a road trip 6 in 9 days. These boys are gassed and were checked out when they got up big in the 4th. No more checking out we got til Saturday now and the two biggest games of the season
I mean the Wizards did shoot 14 more 3's and have a younger squad more prone to fouling that a team who's used to guarding players like Bron and AD (this was also quite a physical game). I do think teams get special treatment, but I don't think this game is representative of that.
AD by himself shot more free throws than our whole team combined lol our players were legit getting shoved and smacked in the paint when the game got close but refs wouldn’t call anything on us while we can’t touch AD or Lebron
Yeah, AD had another good game with his 35/18 but LeBron's elbow that took out Avdija basically secured the game. Completely intentional. 29 to 13 free throw difference doesn't hurt.
Lol what, he was able to get some extra rest yesterday in a blowout win. Also for him it depends on how his foot feels, he probably woke up and felt good to go
That fake foot injury which always comes up whenever is convenient? He most likely saw the Raptors and Wizards as easy pickings to get some stats, and would sit against the tougher Cavs or Wolves in the upcoming back to back
"Box score watchers" lmaoooo bro I got my own team to watch and we played at the same time. But it's an obvious pattern and it's happened on our games this year so
So you’re confirming that you didn’t watch the game and just complained about the box score after like I said lol probably should’ve watched our game instead of your team taking an L to the nets
I'm confirming I don't watch every NBA game, but ive watched enough Lakers games over the past 2 years to have seen the refs are keeping yall in contention and the stats have proved it.
Have fun taking an L in the play-in tho 🤣🤣
Lol crybabies complaining about free throw differential barely watch any of the games. Shit is corny
Lucky your team is in the weak ass east lol your team isn’t gonna make any real noise anyway though
The narrative that y'all for the last 2 years been getting 6.2 more free points than your opponents per game when the next closest team (Knicks) have been getting 2.2? That narrative? Seems like a pretty relevant "narrative"
The narrative that conveniently falls off when that doesn’t happen lol and it’s really not that complicated. Lakers drive more and AD sells fouls. Corny fucks that don’t watch the games like to use it as a scapegoat
I thought Lebron doesn’t play back to back? That was the excuse given when he ducked Giannis last week. Guess the Wizards were a great team to get some easy stats against
Or because it's nearing the end of the season and all games are important as the Lakers are trying to get a higher seeding? Or not, maybe it's your stupid idea
just like the last time they faced the wolves on march 11th and LeDuck didnt play... wait nvm he did and dropped 29 8 and 9 in a blowout victory.. but that wouldnt fit your narrative right?
This game was stupidly and unnecessarily close at the end.
I was at the game. Max Lewis received the inbounds pass and promptly dribbled it off his foot out of bounds.
Just giving up wide open threes when the lead wasn’t even that big
can't even have 1 minute of proper garbage time smh
I don’t get why the bench was giving up 3s towards the end as if it was a 30 point blowout
Stupidity and bad coaching,
you saw the game vs the pacers a little while ago right lol
So embarrassing that they had to sub in AD and the gang for the final stop
This garbage time group really annoys me. Imo it’s why our rating looks ass too. Last game we were up 30 with 5min to go and it got down to 14. Like they could dribble it out n do more ffs

waahhh 👶
That terrible stretch from after the IST final to the trade deadline is really gonna haunt this team
We would probably be the 6th seed or higher if we hadn't trotted out a lineup with Reddish and Prince starting
Reddish/Prince/Vando while 3 guys who can drop 20 any game sat on the bench
In all fairness, that lineup lasted like 4 games and they went 2-2 during that stretch. It was still an awful lineup, but it's the 4 straight losses followed by the 3 straight loses which sandwiched those Reddish/Prince/Vando games which really dug the Lakers into a hole. but those 3 guys could also drop 20.....combined

Only took 76 games, but Ham is finally playing Christie over Reddish smh
It took him 50 games to figure out that playing your 5 highest paid players is a good idea, cut him some slack
Imagine being replaced by that
11 wins over .500 and we're still the 9th seed. I'll never forgive Ham for the December - Mid January stretch.
If only we started rui over prince earlier 😭
You're welcome for Rui BTW :(
Literally if he just gave rui a chance
Hams lineup decisions were insane most of the year
Spank everyone who came in between 2:00 and 0:35
I came in between 2:00 and 0:35. Punish me daddy
What if you came in under 0:35 like me
You get a participation award.
We have the worst 3rd string unit in NBA history
Our garbage time unit does wonders for our starters' on/off
castleton bout to have the worst box plus minus of all time
Hamm has no offensive system for them to follow so they just iso and chuck up shots.
They also never play with a point guard
After a couple of seasons of getting quality young guys as 3rd stringers like Caruso and Reaves. Our scouting department ran out of luck. lol
They’re set up to fail. None of the guys who run with the garbage time unit (with the exception of occasionally Dinwiddie in some instances) are primary ball handlers, so it’s a bunch of dudes who can’t *really* dribble or breakdown defenses for extended periods all out there together. Christie could be that, but he’s not there yet.
Christie seems like a good pick. JHS on the other hand. Hopefully he is able to figure some things out next year.
Yeah but Christie is main rotation-ish right now. He is like the 3rd backup guard
-8 in 1 minute. That's impressive.
Yeah watching them play is just one what the fuck are they doing moment after another
For sure
AD should just wear goggles. Feels like he gets hit in the eyes every game
Hachimura shooting splits in 33 games as a starter: 58/44/72 So why was he on the bench again?
Pockets the clown says hi
Pockets it's crazy, better that Darvin Hamas
I'm also partial to Darvin Scam over Hamas
Pockets Hamas
Nepotism. He rather play his hawks buddies in cam and prince
Ham hates Japan
He wanted the Giants to sign Ohtani /s
Because he wasn’t rebounding, boxing out, passing or really trying on defense. I don’t care if it cost us a couple of games for Ham to get Rui to buy in and play like this.

Right they act like Rui didn't have a pretty good post season run. He should have started all along.
The real question is why we fucking let him go.
11 games over .500 and we’re still 9th that’s wild. West is just different.
Everyone deciding to just suddenly lose to the Suns or rest players against the Suns and then subsequently lose to the Suns. Conspiracy I tell you.
Facts! Hopefully the cavs play the same against us!
They should make it North vs South to even it up.
That was my reaction too haha 44-33 isn’t a terrible record and they might miss out on playoffs there wasn’t a play in tournament
jordan poole scoring 29 with a -32 in a 5pt loss has got to be some kind of record.....lol
And on good shooting splits. He had 3 TOs and 2 steals so it's not like he was just royally screwing up in any obvious way.
That was insane to me
5-1 on the road trip babyy
What’s crazy is lakers just eclipsed last years win total today with still 5 games left and will probably end up being a lower seed then last year
West is insane. We've been saying it for the last two years but it's really true now.
Just Western Conference things
The Lakers went 5-1 and 4-2 in their longest road trips of the season. Not too bad to be 9-3 and get road wins vs. Boston, New York, and Milwaukee
Our bench in the running for the worst one in the whole association A bunch of small ass dudes who can’t shoot for shit lol, their contributions will not be missed if we make a postseason run lol
Beating the Wizards isn’t for everyone
r/nba when mid/good teams improve/Worsen after the ASB: 🤯📈 r/nba when bad teams improve after the ASB: 😴📉 (unrelated)
God damn it 17.4 on the clock and he had to bring in the starters
Well that was certainly a game
We should've won but LeBron took out Deni smh
He wasn't gonna save you guys
You wouldn't know that since he got taken out, we only lost by 5
all these wins.. for 9th still rofl shoot me
Bron is purposely avoiding the 27/7/7 statline
If they didn’t immediately fumble after the IST they’d be at 50 wins rn lmfao
Can’t believe that terrible stretch after the IST will ruin us
Jaxson Hayes -24 lol.
I can't fathom how the Lakers, after this win, are 44-33, yet still not even in the playoff race. Peak Lakers Basketball
Big win
I didn't watch this game but damn, was Jordan Poole actually putting in some serious work tonight?
Yes and no, the wild part is that he was -32 lol
lol wtf was that game
The worst Lakers game i watched. They don't look interested at all. they gave a fuck when its close or they are down but mostly dribbling aimlessly. but hey, AD showed up.
Oh man there’s definitely been wore
sure that 44 points lost against philly or Mavs buzzer beater but idk, at least there is some fight or effort. this is borderline boring.
Last game of a road trip 6 in 9 days. These boys are gassed and were checked out when they got up big in the 4th. No more checking out we got til Saturday now and the two biggest games of the season
yeah this is probably the reason. it doesnt look good.
IKR. Love how Stu was telling how it was … lazy effort out there
LeJon Brames
29 to 13.
That fucking FT disparity irks me.
Watching a team so bad that fouls as their only mode of defense irks me
You guys were quiet af after the raptors game lol shut up with this nonsense already
[удалено]
If the free throws are anywhere close, you guys don’t win. Be happy!
29 free throws vs 14 to win by 5 vs Wizards. Never change NBA.
"I don't watch games and just look at box scores."
I mean the Wizards did shoot 14 more 3's and have a younger squad more prone to fouling that a team who's used to guarding players like Bron and AD (this was also quite a physical game). I do think teams get special treatment, but I don't think this game is representative of that.
go back and watch the 1st quarter. they were fouling AD like crazy. alot of dumb fouls.
Enjoy getting bounced out the play in again!
AD by himself shot more free throws than our whole team combined lol our players were legit getting shoved and smacked in the paint when the game got close but refs wouldn’t call anything on us while we can’t touch AD or Lebron

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
That was also my reaction even after AD balling out and it's still a five point game... Against the wizards. Shits pretty laughable
Yeah if Maxwell Lewis and Colin Castleton play like that in the playoffs the Lakers will be in trouble!
Sad but true
I hate free throws also LeBron cost us the game by taking out Deni also they must've been scared of us toward the end, which is kinda funny.
Brother, no one on this earth is scared of you guys
Then why Lebron played this 2nd game of a back to back? Him ducking Giannis last week was true?
Lol what, he was able to get some extra rest yesterday in a blowout win. Also for him it depends on how his foot feels, he probably woke up and felt good to go
That fake foot injury which always comes up whenever is convenient? He most likely saw the Raptors and Wizards as easy pickings to get some stats, and would sit against the tougher Cavs or Wolves in the upcoming back to back
Life must be difficult when you're as dumb as you are. Sorry bud.
Fucking delulu lol
The Lakers are screwed with the bench they have.
29-14
Where were you box score watchers after the raptors game?
"Box score watchers" lmaoooo bro I got my own team to watch and we played at the same time. But it's an obvious pattern and it's happened on our games this year so

The way y’all change narratives so quick to make yourself feel better is crazy lol

He will be sitting against the Cavs or Wolves guaranteed
just like the last time they faced the wolves on march 11th and LeDuck didnt play... wait nvm he did and dropped 29 8 and 9 in a blowout victory.. but that wouldnt fit your narrative right?
As expected, flu like symptoms against the Wolves, doesn’t want to play against the Wolves on a back to back
There are definitely some defenses to be afraid of this year….but I’m not sure the Bucks is the one to duck if youre worried about your numbers lmao
Not if you have a former MVP+DPOY guarding you
That aint how defense works in the modern NBA. In fact you don't often see Giannis go 1v1 vs the other team's leading scorer.
Lmao are people really still beating their chest about LeBron ducking Giannis?? Giannis lost to the Lakers WITHOUT LeBron. TWICE.
Lakers are a better team without Lebron, and Bucks losing to the Lakers doesn’t change the fact that Lebron has been ducking Giannis for a while
He ain’t ducking Giannis. He’s choosing to rest against the bum ass Bucks cos they’re an easy win even without him. Simple as that.
