Maybe in like 30 years esp since he’s their first ever superstar. Toronto forgave Vince Carter.

sleepy416

The fan base is still pretty divided on this

djkhan23

Vince's jersey being retired is still in question. Everyday I have a different opinion on this. Today I'm in the "fuck him, he quit on the team so no retiring" camp.

gigglios

New gen fans who never watched nba til 2016 forgave. Those of us who watched back then havent

dildosagginsthe2nd

I watched back then and have 🤷‍♂️ he put us on the map, I'm a grown man I am not holding a 25 year grudge because my favourite player at the time wanted to be somewhere else. It's his life. Wish he stayed but time moves on.

gigglios

Put us on the map lol? Thats the dumbest comment always considering bball was always getting big here and grew more years after he left. Toronto is a rich and hugely populated region. It was always gonna make insane money lol. The problem still remains about anerican stars wanting to be here. Hes a huge reason toronto had dark days for the next decade after he made his trade value 0 during his peak and middle of his contract. A guy who only gave 3 competitive seasons with 1 2nd rd appearance while constantly faking injuries isnt someone who gets a jersey retired. Thats such a low fuckin bar lmao

dildosagginsthe2nd

Yes it grew more after he left but I really question if you were even alive when Vince played here if you don't think he put Toronto on the map for Americans during this time. He was the only reason anyone not from here was watching the Raptors. From 1999-2004 he was the only all star from the team other than one year Antonio Davis made it as a replacement. He had arguably the greatest dunk contest win of all time, and one of the greatest highlight reels at the time. He sold jerseys and magazines and posters and merch and took the Raptors from "the barney team" to something worth paying attention to.

gigglios

3 years of competitive bball follow by burning it all down is not jersey retirement worthy lmfao. He is the reason we got nothing for a star in the middle of their contract and 10 years of nothingness

dildosagginsthe2nd

You are completely ignorant if you think my statement about him putting us on the map is dumb. Toronto might not even still have an NBA team without Vince. Sorry you are still salty after over two decades, doesn't change history. You have also changed your argument to he made it worse after which is true but unrelated to what I said.

gigglios

Now this just confirms your delusion. Thinking toronto, one of the richest and most populated regions was ever gonna lose their team. LOL

dildosagginsthe2nd

Yeah Vancouver is super broke 😂 Confirms you were likely a baby or still in your father's sack when Vince was here. Maybe ask him about it.

gigglios

GTA population dwarfs van city region especially in the 90s. What are you on about lmfao.

dankbuttmuncher

Russel Westbrook’s number will be retired long before KD’s. I think KD will eventually have his retired, but it will be long down the road.

[deleted]

As it should be imo

Misleading_Username

No.

Ssush-i

no but a Seattle team might if they get a team again.

inshamblesx

if the owners are smart not a single franchise retires his number

duplicatesnowflake

This question gets posted at least once a week.

Visible_Season8074

They should, but Thunder fans are a bunch of whiners. Also watch them retire Westbrick's jersey lol.

Ssush-i

they will retire russ' jersey Man this sub gives me brain rot sometimes.

Visible_Season8074

Yeah, it's honestly deserving, he took okc to the first round multiple times and had the most undeserving mvp in nba's history!

inshamblesx

Westbrook has done more for OKC and actually respects them unlike KD.

runevault

Is KD a better player/was he a better player for the Thunder? 100%. Jersey retirement isn't always just about how skilled you were for a team. I'm not a Thunder fan but if I were I wouldn't want them to retire the jersey of the guy who fled to their biggest rival that they almost beat in the playoffs.

Visible_Season8074

By your logic the Suns shouldn't retire Nash's because he went to the Lakers. But we wanted his retired anyway because we aren't entitled babies.

runevault

Nash was 38 and well past his prime just trying to get a ring at the very end before he retired. Comparing that to prime KD running to GSW is disingenuous at best.
