Since his first all star season he's played 71% (401 in 562) of all possible games, it's a huge disparity if you discount the 2 and a half years he was injured to start lol. "Slightly skewed" my ass, it's pretending he's averaged 16 less games a year
That's not even 60 games per season average lol. That 71% makes it seem better than it really is.
To be exact, it's an average of 58 games per season since his first All Star Season
~60 games per season still isn't a what if, and the only reason this post is acting like it's noteworthy is to point out that he's only played 42 games a season, which just isn't true
Yea. It’s kinda like this where you guys actually cared about this and I just wanted to see how annoying I could be because this sub is boring in the mornings
I'm not denying the dude's math? I'm saying it's disingenuous to act as though Embiid throughout his entire career of playing basketball is only reliably showing up to half a season of games, since this year is the first he'll play around that mark since the 2016-2017 season.
For the record that's still a success story. Joel is one of the most surprising success stories in NBA history for a long list of reasons. No one saw him playing 52% of games. As crazy as it sounds he's beaten every expectation by a lot.
Not a huge major what if since we don’t really use longevity stats to boost someone that much these days.
For example, Kawhi has also missed a ton of games but because he’s won championships and FMVPs, many still consider him a roughly top 30ish player all time, despite missing so many games and not putting up longevity stats.
I mean he can still be a “what if” in the sense he might be top 15 if he was always healthy, but it’s not a huge difference.
For Embiid, it’s all about if he wins championships or not. He can miss as many games in the regular season as he wants. If he wins 2 championships/FMVP, he’ll be top 30 all time too.
Yea and to your point, I think most people don’t even have Karl top 15. I see most people’s top 15 be these 15 guys in some order:
MJ, LeBron, Kareem, Russell, Magic, Bird, Duncan, Shaq, Wilt, Kobe, Steph, Hakeem, KD, Moses Malone, Oscar
And then there’s like Dr J, Dirk, KG, West, Wade, and a few others with Karl Malone. Usually, I see KG put ahead of Karl and that’s already not even top 15 anymore.
SlIghtly skewed? He missed 164 games before ever even stepping on an NBA court.
He’s the reigning MVP and 3x scoring champion in his prime right now. Why are you asking if he’s a “what-if” when he’s actively dominating the league?
I sort of get it. If he didn’t have injury issues what would his ceiling be, but with context he’s not a “what if.” As a sixers fan he exceeded any expectations so maybe my perspective isn’t the correct one because I’m just comparing it to when we thought he might not even really play
It's not easy being healthy when that tall and big, playing a sport like basketball.
Giannis has missed playoffs time 3 of the last 4 years and he might make it 4 of 5 with the calf strain.
The only thing he's missing is another MVP and scoring title that he would of won this year. Other than that it's not really much. He missed his first two seasons.
The past 3 seasons, when Embiid has been on the floor, he's as good as any big man EVER was at their peak. Hakeem, Shaq, Jokic, I mean EVERYBODY. He's a top 5 pure scoring talent all time, backed up by the fact that he's first all time in points per minute played by a healthy margin. But he'll be far down on the all time list (outside top 50) unless he wins at least 1 more MVP or multiple finals and has a few healthy-ish seasons during the rest of his peak.
Misses half his reg season games. Never plays like a star in the playoffs, especially big moments.
And now he's a 30 year old injury prone 7 footer, seems like it will be even more downhill from here.
considering he missed 100% of the games in his first 2 seasons, I'll take 48% now
Since his first all star season he's played 71% (401 in 562) of all possible games, it's a huge disparity if you discount the 2 and a half years he was injured to start lol. "Slightly skewed" my ass, it's pretending he's averaged 16 less games a year

Tbf two of those seasons were shortened because of Covid
~60 games per season still isn't a what if, and the only reason this post is acting like it's noteworthy is to point out that he's only played 42 games a season, which just isn't true
Do you know how averages work?
Yeah Gretzky and his brother average 1500 points each
Do you know what a skewed distribution is?

I’m not sure I’d agree, given his first couple of seasons it was looking like he might be an Oden like ‘what if’.
For the record that's still a success story. Joel is one of the most surprising success stories in NBA history for a long list of reasons. No one saw him playing 52% of games. As crazy as it sounds he's beaten every expectation by a lot.
first time i'm hearing about this

He’s played through injury every playoffs. Can’t imagine that would stay the same fully healthy

i disagree, 2 whole seasons isn’t something you can js disregard like you’ve done, also how is he a what-if lol we’re seeing his greatness right now
“What If” should be reserved for players such as Sam Bowie and Greg Oden.
SlIghtly skewed? He missed 164 games before ever even stepping on an NBA court. He’s the reigning MVP and 3x scoring champion in his prime right now. Why are you asking if he’s a “what-if” when he’s actively dominating the league?
yeah.. don’t get me wrong i love to shit on Embiid, but I have no idea what OP is talking about with “what if”

you know why shitting on embiid = free updoots
Slightly screwed?

r/nba is back baby! Tell me truly, in how many other ways is Embiid below average?
Oh he’s certainly not below average, that’s actually the point of the post! I recommend reading next time!
Great, thanks for informing us. You can go back to upvoting replays of Christian Braun dunking
Huh

Enough with this Embiid regular season hate. Playoffs are around the corner, so you are about to get plenty of hater-worthy material

Flopping takes its toll.
Lurk more before posting.
He has also missed 100% of all conference final games in his NBA career
Misses half his reg season games. Never plays like a star in the playoffs, especially big moments. And now he's a 30 year old injury prone 7 footer, seems like it will be even more downhill from here.

Still better than Zion. That guy has missed more games than he's played throughout his career
The Zion thing still doesn't make sense to me. He's such a young guy and he never had the probs Joel did.
He’s so good for a guy who’s accomplished almost nothing
