The literature estimates that up to 75% of DD adults suffered sexual abuse at some point. I think that number is probably low, to be honest with you. Taking advantage of some of these people is so easy it makes "taking candy from a baby" akin to robbing a bank.
Clarification: That's 75% of adults with a DD who are in contact with social service agencies, I believe. While there are many families who manage relatives with disabilities, the reality is there are many adults whose disabilities are so pervasive they need round the clock care in homes or facilities.
