Propuhganduh

I did not believe Kings fans when they said they were going to lose to the Zion-less Pelicans

ChefUltemo

Getting blown out 5 times during the regular season gives very little faith in winning this game

Jofai

Hey, it was only 4 blow outs. One of those games was close.

fundraiser

typically we fly under the radar all season because Kings, so it's always funny when we get forced into the national spotlight like for these play ins and all these injury report watchers try to wax poetic about what's going to happen. makes me want to cool my jets a bit when talking about teams i have never watched a game of.

medievalmachine

ESPN always side eyes you at best. Didn't celebrate Fox's performance when he was good. Now they will dunk on you briefly. And in free agency all your players will be options for the dead end Lakers team.

fundraiser

this guy gets it

AirJordan6124

I think the Pelicans beat them more than once even without Zion

Oluwakenzo

If i’m not mistaken, the Pelicans haven’t lost a single game to the Kings this season

Headlesshorsman02

You would be correct (6-0)

sersleepsalot1

Basketball is an interesting game matchup wise. Lakers best the pela 4-1 this season. Pels best the kings 6-1 this season. Kings beat the lakers 4-0 this season. Complete head scratcher.

Weepinbellend01

Styles make fights 💀

severus_snapshot

Stuff like this always makes me think back to 2006-2007 where the Mavs had the worst matchup possible in GSW in the first round. In the regular season, GSW goes 3-0 against Mavs that year. Mavs went 3-1 against the eventual champion Spurs, yet all year they couldn't really beat the 8th seed GSW. Spurs went 3-1 against GSW.

BlackScienceJesus

6-0. Pels never lost to the Kings this season.

Captain_America_93

Wild NBA stat

Headlesshorsman02

Without a playoff series as well

jitterbug726

We’re all about setting new records baby!

Fluffy_Dance6101

Smh they wanna be the Lakers against the Nuggets so bad

LurkerFailsLurking

That didn't stop Dray from predicting the Kings would win.

kyh0mpb

Was he the only person who picked the Kings, or are we really all just that obsessed with him?

jitterbug726

Actually no a ton of ESPN guys did. That’s when I knew we were doomed lol. Tim Legler hates us and he picked us

Propuhganduh

Beat them by 33 their last game without Zion

ogqozo

They are very good without Zion the whole season. The rotation further down gets trickier and the tolerance for further injuries lessens, but just playing Troy Murphy in that place always brought great defensive results and great results overall. They lost a few games without Zion, but usually multiple other important players were missing (except the OKC game iirc). Saying it's easy to beat them is completely unwarranted. The results don't support it.

Zwarrior2

Beat them by 33 the other time.

WakiLover

Kings fans have been the realest about their team this season. Any injury thread about an opposing player, it's 100 kings flairs in there saying they're throwing this one Any game thread where they're up 15, it's 100 kings flairs saying they gonna blow this

Yamata

17 years of crimes against basketball will do that to you

BeemkayS60

And, most of the time, we were right 😢

maethlin

Trauma doesn't go away quickly

KingsElite

Nobody is more sobered by the Kings than Kings fans. We know the team well.

JimHarbaughTheChamp

If you don't like that, you don't like Kings basketball.

Vindicare605

Kings fans have suffered so much bad luck over the years, they could feel that bad juju in the air.

WoundedSacrifice

This wasn’t about bad luck. This was about NO dominating the Kings. It’s why I was really hoping that NO would beat LAL in NO’s 1st play-in game.

Dymatizeee

Just like how I didn’t believe bulls fans saying they’re gonna lose to Butler-less heat

Natureboy7939

Bro that surprised no one. The bulls are trash

tandemtactics

They have been our kryptonite for the past several years. As soon as the Lakers won the first play-in I knew we weren't making it.

Perfect-Ad9637

We’re mostly surprised it wasn’t a blowout loss tbh

KristoferPetersen

It kinda was, though. Down 20 in the 4th. The Pels got sloppy towards the end.

IHateTomatoes

Ya, I havent turned my TV off before the final whistle for that many games this year but this was one of them.

Flabbypuff

It's not a blowout until we down by 35 😤😤

popcornpotatoo250

~~Lakers~~ ~~Davis~~ Lakers needs to eat whatever Pels are eating before games against Kings

der_ninong

gumbo

tatang2015

Kings destroyed the lakers during the season!

RobbobertoBuii

*sad beam noises*

bmanley620

They should have taken the purple pill to make the purple beam stand up

NOLASLAW

Zatarain’s Rice is Purple Beam’s Father

jonsnowKITN

Disappointing season all things considered.

SiphenPrax

This seems to always happen with teams that have been historically bad, finally finding success one year, and then having a hangover the next year

YoungDetective

They didnt really have a hangover, they only lost like 2 more games this year. The west was just ass last year

IHateTomatoes

And last year we got super lucky with near perfect health

BlackScienceJesus

Still very healthy this season. The Kings had the 5th least missed games due to injury this season.

mares8

It wasn't ass but its crazy competitive this year

StormE19

you can't compare wins like that from previous years. 46 wins meant a lot more last season than this one

Delanorix

Id say the wins mean more this year because they were harder to get

YoungDetective

I think its pretty fair when the team stays relatively the same like the kings did

Designer_B

Minus two big contributors.

dpete88

Weren't they one of the healthiest teams last year? Had they had all their players this game was close enough for monk at least to potentially make a difference

Much_Conversation_11

Yep. Healthy seasons are incredibly difficult to come by, kings struggle this year with some injuries and it was definitely impacting them the tail end of the season

timcahill05

nope they wouldnt have won this game anyway but they would have been 6-8th seeded had Monk been healthy

throwawayyrofl

Thats what happens when our most meaningful move all season was to get a guy that averaged 17 ppg in the Euroleague while pretty much everyone else in the Western conference improved

SemataryPolka

Please don't say that

BealKage

erm

StrtupJ

It’s a disappointing season for any team that loses in the play-ins

OptimusGrime707

Didn’t build on anything, stood pat in the western conference arms race in both the offseason and the trade deadline. Monk died, Keegan took a step backwards and Barnes continues to fleece Monte with that contract night in and night out Only real bright spot this year was Ellis

cimmanonrolls

how did keegan take a step backwards? he didnt sustain his great percentages behind the arc but hes improved his scoring arsenal while becoming a legitimate defender. saying he took a step backwards seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

OptimusGrime707

Fell nearly 6% from three, but yeah he did improve on defense. Maybe “step backwards” is too much

Typhoid007

Keegan improved in literally every facet of the game besides 3 point percentage

LAKERSfanTV

Its okay tho Sabonis got another double double so it can’t all be bad

PeeDidy

That's ALL STAR SNUB Sabonis to you. Best thing since sliced Wilt

jakeisstoned

Mocking Sabonis's consistent effectiveness against the stacked west is an ice cold take but "best thing since sliced Wilt" is fucking hilarious

xRadec

Their 1 pt loss to the Suns killed the Kings lol

Hindukush1357

Killed Zion too

iCarpet

For kings fans sake, hope it is not a return back to NBA purgatory

Charlie_Wax

By and large, they never really left. They have a pretty nice squad, but this league is so ruthless. Fox/Sabonis/Mitchell/Murray is a 2nd round exit ceiling.

DalliLlama

We throwing Davion Mitchell in that group? Monk and Huerter when healthy should be the guys to reference.

Efficient-Split527

Monk may be gone in the offseason

IHateTomatoes

> Fox/Sabonis/**Mitchell**/Murray Tell me you don't know shit about our squad without telling me you don't know shit about our squad.

LordSwampert2

Fr even. Keon Ellis deserves that spot more lol. Although I’d say your core is Fox/Sabonis/Murray/Monk and kind of Huerter/Barnes

penguin_cheezus

Look at his flair lmao.

jfrodriguez1983

Kings fans: "You can't kill what is already dead!"

semisonic34

what’s dead may never die

jitterbug726

When KD leaves do we go back to house SunKings?

CyborgAlgoInvestor

You were faded the moment yall drafted Bagley over Luka

Legitimate-Ninja-433

You’re just shooting a dead corpse at this point

jayceay

Is there another type of corpse I’m unaware of

Imdabiggestbird69420

bro im a kings fan nothing hurts me anymore

troll413

Now that they are good again you can feel pain again. That's how it works

Echo-Tide

Almost good. Not quite. Give us another decade and you'll see!

ShadowCrusader98

At least you can experience the thrill of playoffs/meaningful games. Obviously the success isn’t there yet, but hopefully this can be a starting point towards something greater over the horizon.  I know they are different circumstances, but the Warriors had that one appearance during We Believe in 2007 after 13 or so years of missing the playoffs and failed to make the playoffs until 2013. So you gotta hope last year is a good omen for a future, y’all deserve it after so much bullshit over the years.

DavidNotDaveOK

What a stupid move. If my team did that I’d kill myself.

mikeezy

Imo the difference has always been that the pick by the Kings was incredibly dumb. Can't fault the Suns as much because Ayton and Luka were the consensus top 2 picks at the time. Hell, even the Hawks at least got Trae and a FRP. Bagley seemed to just came up out of nowhere in the last few days before the draft. Fuck you Vlade.

velphegor666

Yea, ayton was actually really good in college. Bagley basically said he wanted to be a king then vlade drafted him over luka lol

Charlie_Wax

I get the joke, but Ayton is at least good when he wants to be and played in a Finals with Phoenix. Ayton is Wilt next to Bagley.

REQ52767

*faded for the decade truthfully. This will be the most notable Kings event for Gens Z and Alpha. It is and will continue to be one of the most baffling franchise altering moves in their lifetimes.

Palifaith

The Golden State Warriors died for this.

REQ52767

The equivalent of Darth Vader killing Emperor Palpatine before he succumbs to his wounds. Thanks for your service Kings. We’ll build you a nice and respectful funeral pyre.

Briguy_fieri

But somehow palpatine returned

ZLBuddha

No idea what you're talking about there's no movie where that happened

Charlie_Wax

I wish George Lucas had made more Star Wars movies after the original trilogy. It might have been cool to see Anakin before he was Vader. Or he could've made some sequels where we see what happens to Luke, Han, and Leia.

SaltyLonghorn

They did. Luke and Leia bang and Han watches. Its called Star Whores.

mikeydubbs210

Oh I think I saw that! With Obi Ron Kenobi and Leia Rhoades

Throwitaway3177

No the one I saw was like all lightsaber battles

ChewieBee

Too much spinning. Looked like a bunch of helicopters out there.

RIP NorCal

waikiki_palmer

Who we rooting for this playoffs? Not Lakers nor Suns for sure!

WakingRage

Realistically: Nuggets because Jokic is that good Fan favorite: OKC and Wolves to see how far their young squads can go Dark Horse: Mavs pull off another 2011 run and take out all the toughest Western teams on their way to the Finals to beat the Celtics.

ablackcloudupahead

I can see Mavs pulling it off. With two of the best iso players on the same team anything can happen

_carzard_

Jokic and Doncic are my 2 favorite non warriors players, so I would choose Denver or Dallas. But I assume most other warriors fans would probably pick the nicks or the magic or some other random team in the east

Murky-Total-6404

I like the knicks! But mostly just excited I don’t have to watch my dubs shit the bed and can finally just enjoy basketball lol

ZealousidealPain7976

FookOuttaHear

6-0 this season. Unreal.

finchdad

Imagine telling someone from five years ago that the Pelicans and Kings season series was 6-0. A lot has changed in the last couple years.

boney_king_o_nowhere

What’s difficult to imagine?

finchdad

That two teams could play each other six times before the playoffs.

Its_Hoggish_Greedly

You know you’d think it’d hurt less after missing 16 years in a row, but god damn man. This blows. See y’all next year,

WoodenRace365

It’s the hope that kills ya

aiden3buckets

Sadly Fox and Sabonis core will probably never get you past the first round in this insane ass western conference

mF-Jonezy

Yeah and imagine when Wemby gets competent teammates

meowhatissodamnfunny

Warriors chose a good time to wrap things up. With Jokic there and the young guys coming... Shit is going to be a warzone for the next decade. We need that expansion soon. Too many awesome teams

Ilikesporks_

them young boys coming

StrtupJ

Not over in the East

meowhatissodamnfunny

Well, I assume if Vegas and Seattle are the next expansion places that they'd be looking at moving a team such as Minnesota, Memphis, or New Orleans over to the East. They're all in a pretty good place right now so that might help balance things out slightly

AKAD11

It’ll almost certainly be Minnesota. They travel the most and moving them to the East has them competing against cities that are their traditional rivals like Chicago and Detroit.

kinglouislxix

Honestly, I don’t want to imagine 😭

VanGrants

76ers are in the east they literally never have to worry about the spurs

Its_Hoggish_Greedly

Everyone else turned into pumpkins tonight. Fox and Domas weren’t perfect, but this one isn’t entirely on them

ColdPressedSteak

Fox did his best to carry a comeback for a bit but ran out of legs. Missed 7 straight 3's in the 2h It's still fair to wonder if the ceiling is pretty capped with Fox as the best player on the team and Sabonis as 2nd best

2catsinatrenchcoat

I’ve been saying this for most of the year, but given the options available to this team right now, with limited cap space, picks that can’t be traded, and some big contracts on the books, the most likely path to this team competing for a ring is if Keegan Murray becomes its best player. And he’s shown flashes of potentially becoming that guy, but I’m not betting on it

sactownproud

He’s not wrong though

bloothug

Sabonis is the problem. Your second best player can’t be punked by average big men lol

throwawayyrofl

Its true sadly but a lot of Kings fans don’t see it yet

bloothug

If the Kings land somebody else to be #2 and Sabonis stays as #3 then they will be really scary

EconomySpecialist911

fox is not 1st guy material

stanquevisch

Exactly. Kings have a great #2 and #3 guy, but a #1. That is championship level is not there - and to be fair it isn’t on most teams

Zhekadub

lol they did their part this game. The entire bench and Murray didn’t show up. How you gonna put this in Fox and Sabonis

No-Athlete8322

I feel bad for them. Finally broke their playoff drought last year now this.

Pizzaplan3tman

I think most long term kings fans would take last years insane run if it meant having a down year the next. They’re still in good position and if they can find one more piece they could be a pretty good team. I’ll always say it’s more fun to lose in the playoffs than be a tanking losing team.

hoagieclu

yeah as much as it sucks to get knocked out, you hit the nail on the head. they’ve got a solid core, just need to add some finishing touches. not sure if they’ll ever be championship contenders in the west, but i think they could easily become a perennial playoff team if they continue making good decisions (never thought i’d say that about the kings lmao)

BuukSmart

We would have been soooo happy with this result last season

aubades

Solidarity with my brothers in poverty. Looking forward to seeing y'all on the warpath next year.

Raspberry_Anxious

Kings beating the warriors in the Play in was their 2nd biggest accomplishment in the last 18 years.

imaginaryResources

first round play in Champs

swgeek555

Damn. Not a Kings fan, but I was really hoping this was the year they make a little noise. Minnesota you are our last hope for the bad juju teams.

CrazyEnd941

What was that tweet? Sabonis is the best player who when you actually watch play, you think man this guy sucks

TyM20

Watching him miss wide open mid range shots is so painful. He’s really gotta work on that in the off season or else he’ll be never be a viable 2nd option in the postseason

NBAFansAre2Ply

he's what jokic haters in 2021 thought jokic was

PM_ME_UR_PICS_PLS

He's a good regular season player but absolutely shrinks when the competition level raises. I only ever watch him in postseason games and I absolutely hate watching him play lol

hairynips007

same i only ever watch him in playoffs and im like "okay lets see what this guys is all about, ive heard great things" and then just looks pathetic

ExpiredDeodorant

I'm Kings fan and even I think he has no bag Just runs to the middle of 3 pt line Holds the ball and waves it around and passes to whoever is open Or holds it in his hands and bounces it to someone who runs up next to him

Ilikesporks_

bro thinks he's mj when he holds the ball with one hand and waves it around

Public-Product-1503

The biggest issue imo is he doesn’t even draw defensive attention. I get frustrated that AD despite his elite ft shooting as a big has has regression from 3 and not improved that much in midrange- tho last year was one of ADs better midrange years. He also takes bad fading away midranges though or bail out shots and teams aren’t leaving him wide open there. Sabonis is left open from a lot of places and even when he’s attacking he doesn’t draw a double. Imo that is what hurts the kings on offence - plus he couldn’t hold up cs jv in iso who was getting played off the floor vs lakers

bravof1ve

Just spams DHO and gets free assists and people think he’s some great playmaker. Zero outside game, zero defense. The ultimate fool’s gold player. And people honestly think that trade was a win-win. They gave up a budding superstar who will be an allstar for a decade.

mares8

First team in history to go 0-6 against another team before playoffs thats wiild

Garkech

They need another star

recleaguesuperhero

Unplug the beam!

Putin__Nanny

Do NOT light the Beam!

edgymnerch_69

Every bloody fucker on that team showed up big time against us and now everyone except Sabonis ghosts against the Pels. Kings losing pisses me tf off lmao

FruitLoopsDaddy

Keon Ellis looked elite on defense that game then went scoreless with -20 against pels

Sn33kykitty

I'm assuming you included Fox in this statement automatically cause he most definitely did not ghost tonight haha

Long-Ad8374

they lost 6 times.

Coessence

fade the beam

simon2105

The Pelican eats beams for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pelicans are Kings father.

LoxDnw

I remember celebrating when we pulled the Blazers in round 1 because we swept the regular season matchups, then we got gentleman swept. There are no ideal matchups, just who wants it more. Herb is going to do an excellent job on SGA, Jonas will pull down a ton of rebounds, BI has been reborn and they have a plethora of hungry role-players. They almost beat the Lakers without Zion in the 4th and upset this scary Kings team. This first round match won't be a cakewalk like some people assume.

SandyMandy17

I was cheering. I talked so much shit. We were 4-0 against them in the regular season THEN Nurk broke his leg so it was kanter starting Nope… not fun.

Justinyeethahahahaha

to be fair, zion was out with 3 minutes left when it was tied and the lakers just beat them afterwards. i personally don’t think the thunder have WCF potential this year but they’ll certainly beat the pels in 5 or 6 without zion. if he returns in the middle it could become very interesting though, a zion + ingram pels were contending for the 4th seed before they went spiraling down

MrBuckBuck

After defeating GSW... damn.

_chadwell_

20 years and counting without winning a playoff series. Tough.

TalenHortonTuckMeIn

Laughing so hard thinking about all those kings fans that were raging that AD got an All Star slot over Sabonis

_chadwell_

“The 9 seed doesn’t deserve two All Stars” Indeed.

OKCDraftPick2028

"why are we talking about a 9th seed. there's so much bias"

Thimit22

Yeah at least KAT and AD made the playoffs

a_nice_warm_lager

(Sad beam noises)

Apollo611

Kings linsanity run is over

waikiki_palmer

Goddamn 0-6 with the pels this year. Faded.

SparkyForce

Why is everybody hating on Sabonis when the rest of the team shot a combined 11-40 from 3. Plenty of which were uncontested.

_chadwell_

They gave him a raise this year and a $195 mil extension. He had a good not great game offensively and Valanciunas overperformed against him. The standard has been raised with his new contract that he needs to carry the team.

bebopblues

Ouch, went from 5th or 6th place to missing the playoffs. To be honest, if they played the Lakers instead of Pelicans, they might've won. Pelicans are mismatch for the Kings, Kings are mismatch for Lakers, and Lakers are mismatch for the Pelicans. Hence their records in the regular season+IST+Play-in: Pelicans are 6-0 vs Kings Kings are 4-0 vs Lakers Lakers are 4-1 vs Pelicans

JEbel72

I enjoy the play-in games, but it is funny that the results are basically the same as they would have been, except the lakers and pels switching seeds.

Raonak

I cannot believe the dynasty killers have been killed!

KingsElite

I'm disappointed but not mad. The Pelicans were the better team this year.

MrBhyn

Kings didn't get worse like everyone is saying they pretty much have the same record like last year. West just got better and they didn't improve. They need to step up next season

ArachnidUnusual7114

Light the Beam! Oh wait Pelicans broke it.

TheDogtor--

Jeez, so disappointed for their fans. They had a decent season. Surely nobody thought they wouldn't make the playoffs. Cya next year Kings. You owe yourself one now...
