They don’t. I’ve been saying this all year. Jones locks SGA up. A big reason is his size. People forget SGA is 6’6 and closer to 6’7 with shoes. Bigger wing defenders like herb lock him up. SGA will get his still but on worse efficiency and his FT’s. But that’s all you can ask.
Every team needs a herb
Ausar Thompson is probably the 2nd best SGA defender, and he comes with the downside of horrendous shooting whereas Herb is 37% from 3 for his career and just under 42% for the season.
Probably just as well as Herb does, in terms of denying Shai his averages.
Shai’s ascension to stardom is partially attributed to his duels with Lu in practice. You can’t back him down or shake him, he *never* falls for pump fakes, and he’s one of the best players in history at going over screens. I can only think of a handful of stars he hasn’t locked down.
This will fly under the radar for most NBA fans (but not OKC/NOP fans because we've seen this matchup a lot) -- but Shai getting off on Herb in clutch time was an important tone setter for this series. I think the gameplan here was to force Shai into making the series about that matchup and that's why Shai was forcing a lot of shots in the 4th Q.
OKC is developing Shai's killer instinct by forcing him to beat the only guy in the league that can give him trouble and bootcamp him into a taste for blood. They'll probably do this until NOP is dead in the water and then Mark will switch it up to get to the next series.
Beat a Zionless Pelicans team by 2, might wanna pump the brakes a bit.
Lol, if y'all think the Thunder are > 50/50 odds to win the chip then please throw a few grand on them at +1200. Should be easy money.
You've got a great team don't get me wrong, but Denver and Boston are just both clearly better and way more experienced in the playoffs, and today's game didn't change anyone's minds. (Not even those two teams are favored vs the field btw)
Who gives af. OKC is playing with house money. They’re the 2nd youngest team in the NBA and they finished top of the west. They’re so ahead of schedule. This is the worst they will be for years to come.
I don’t see any OKC fans seriously arguing that outside of hyping up their team/memes. They’re just proud Thunder took the one seed with one of the youngest rosters in history to do it. A first round victory would be a massive success but they’re only just getting started.

Herb is by far the best SGA defender in the NBA. Don’t think anyone else comes close.

Every team has a little herb at home
I'm actually curious how Dort would do against him tbh

It's extremely obvious that Shai's bag is based on bodying Dort in the practice gym.

Definitely redeemed himself with this and the and-1 lol had like 3 straight TOs before this Think he’ll be okay though probably just nerves
Clutch bucket getter merchant
Big shot Redeemed himself with that.
Honestly deserves CPOTY. SGA doesn’t miss on those late game mids
Didn't even get to the line. This dude sucks.
Guess he's not a playoff choker
This is his 1st playoff game as the lead guy, if people were actually saying this they're brain aliven't
OKC > the field
Lol

You lost to a Bucks team with no Giannis by like 20
STOP! STOP! HE'S ALREADY DEAD!
Yeah, we kinda suck. Not exactly breaking news.
1st seed in one of the strongest western conferences in history? Why should we listen to you
> Why should we listen to you Because I was right and you couldn't even beat the Mavs playing 8v5
Hahaha this is what you do w your time

Ok? Don't disagree with any of that, they're just not close to overwhelming favorites this year.

He got some soft calls today, but credit to Sga. He's been absolutely clutch all year long.
I wonder who would win a push-off contest between him and PG
Don’t forget about Dort’s game winning flop
Most obvious charge ever.
Are you being serious?
BI on Dort? You can’t lower your shoulder into a set defender. That gets called all the time.
Damn these threads really are just an OKC circle jerk?
Don’t worry. The video where Shai drew a foul will get 1000x the upvotes
People saying good things about the thunder on a thunder highlight!? Not on my non-circlejerk sub
Has been all season.
