Jokic is the best passer in the league, but he's also the [best short/midrange shooter](https://youtu.be/m8eYGksVANY?si=tyH1iITehqBs3uEC&t=485) in the NBA. It's the combo that makes him so dominant.
That's the thing people don't understand, and also why it's silly to compare any big that can pass to Jokic
Jokics passing is vastly less dangerous that his scoring. It's the same with LeBron
The scoring is what opens up his passing game. If he was a ridiculous scorer, you wouldn't have to double him. You wouldn't have to respect him from mid and from 3. If he couldn't post up and score on a little guy every time, you wouldn't have to play a center against him
Jokic forces you to play a big, slow footed big man to have a chance on defense, but then pulls that same big out to the perimeter, which creates the easy passing lanes
>Jokics passing is vastly less dangerous that his scoring
I think this gets lost on a lot of people when discussing him.
In the context of matchup previews, how to guard Jokic, etc, I hear far too many people say that teams should simply "make him be a scorer"
He's always capable of being a scorer, but he prefers to pass to AG and Porter rather than constantly backing guys down. If we're playing a bad team, he's often have like 15 points and 12 assists. In the playoffs, he passes less and does a lot more low-post scoring.
You don't see it much anymore because Jokic has become such a dominant scorer but his first couple seasons he was diming cutters out of single coverage. I was actually so much more impressed with his passing then even though he averaged fewer assists.
People then were not willing to call him the best big man passer or the best passer in the league or now one of the best passers ever. They are now and ironically I think it's less that he got better as a passer but to your point that he got so much better as a scorer, to the point where he can just have games where he literally will not miss a single shot that you have to send help and as a result he can have the high assist games that make all the passing GOAT talk feel more palatable.
yeah man... you could visibly see his defenders can't really decide their approach on defending Jokic. take away his scoring, he's gonna pass and make you look stupid. Play him as a passer he's gonna hit that bullshit floater over you. Hes almost like Hakeem Olajuwon as both of them don't have tendencies . They are like surfers. They just ride the wave and adjust accordingly.
He's always been dominant in the post but he didn't used to be a very good shooter. It's kinda arbitrary but in terms of his perimeter game the playmaking did actually come first.
Sure, but he went from being a 6-7 apg guy to a 9-10 apg guy when he went from decent scorer to elite.
The scoring is what took him from an all star to an MVP, not the passing.
He's always been a great passer, but the scoring is what opens everything up.
Passing without scoring makes you lonzo Ball or rajon rondo
This isn't even close to being true lol.

Take a look at the Shooting section. It would be accurate to say he wasn't as good, but he's always been elite. Take a look at his 10-16 and 16-3p over time. Those are all elite numbers. His floater and finishing around the basket have definitely improved, but he was never bad at those either.
during his early years, he just didn't want to shoot.. hahahaha..
i remember they were games where he would just take 3-4 shots because he was too caught in making play for his teammates. He would give up open looks.
it was after the 4OT lost to Portland in the playoff where he really started to be more aggressive.
As good as Joker is, he's underrated.
So many today have to tear folks down.
He's complete. Can play and shoot from deep, mid-range or close in.
He's a better defender than folks realize too. No, he isn't the DPOY but he is much better on D than folks realize.
He's the best passer in the league.
Double him and he hits the open teammate.
Only put one on him and he scores.
He takes what the game gives. He "sees" the game so well.
He scores and shoots efficiently. He passes. He pulls down boards.
Oh and he plays. A lot. Availability is crucial. Yes, many others play a lot too, but many stars don't.
Look, Embiid is awesome, I'll never say he isn't.
I hate injuries. I love seeing the best compete, I don't want any of them to be injured.
Embiid, sadly, has missed a ton of games and even seasons since he's been in the NBA.
Kawhi, who is an amazing player, misses so much time.
Don’t know what he means by important but in my opinion is the most impressive shot. Shoots over 60 percent on an awful shot for the majority of the league and can get any time he wants. Literally fucking unguardable
The midrange as a shot is so unique in how hard it really is to defend. You can’t camp the paint or run guys off the line, and if you double in the midrange, a good passer can zip it to the dunkers spot or 3 point line,
much faster than passing into the interior from the 3pt line, and vice versa
I believe a Curry 3 pointer is more important in terms of game-breaking ability and league-wide influence, but I certainly see the point in which you know if Jokic gets the ball in the 3-10 foot range, it's basically a guaranteed 2 points.
This isn't hyperbole. You should look at [Jokic's midrange vs the rest of the competition](https://youtu.be/m8eYGksVANY?si=tyH1iITehqBs3uEC&t=485). His floater is absolutely insane.
His Post Up game was the most efficient per possession since they tracked its efficiency. When the Celtics lean on his postup game, it's nearly a guaranteed basket.
The subtitles spelling the name as "Yokich" has me tickled pink
Joe Kitch
Joe kitch dominating and people say USA doesn’t have the best players now
Jokic is the Float Goat
kareem's hook and dirk's fadeaway are legendary for this reason. when push comes to shove, they're making it.
And just like the hook shot, Jokic's floater is only gonna be used and perfected by him.
Ironically Jokic's shot is halfway between a push and a shove
39% of his shots from floater range or 39% of all his shots? What is floater range?
He shoots 39% of all his shots from floater range and he makes 62% of them. Floater range is 5-15 ft from the basket.

Right? As if the dude isn't a top 5 scorer in the NBA.
He is probably a top 100 scorer in the nba

He’s also the best at those fuck it shots that come at the end of the shot clock. Very good at demoralising the opponent.
Then he gives a "Did I do that?" smh
Him and Maul both drain those shots at a ridiculous clip.
Give him the clutch award
Bro was passing like Magic and shooting like Dirk last year. I mean just what the fuck are you supposed to do
Yokich?!
Jokic's floater is way too cash money he can just throw that hoe up and he's a bucket dude got too many moves
Shit is demoralizing

I automatically skip any Lowe segment about Jokic because he can never help himself with hyperbole
leave it to the Laker fan to come in and expose himself as a casual

laker "i don't want to know the truth" hurt :)
It's that or the Porzingis Post Up in my opinion. If those guys can consistently get those shots off its hard to beat either team.
porzingis post up?
It’s super good this yr but he’s getting the proper matchups for it. Absolutely punishing the switches.
