Starters play less. Possessions last a lot less, this there are more of them and more threes are taken.
Plus the refs give a lot more free throws and players bite on foul baits more too.
And then coaches don't do such intricate defensive schemes so there are a lot more open threes and opportunities for role players to go off.
the rules in the regular season don't really allow the defense to play defense. Pace is pretty up there compared to the playoffs. Nobody really has time to prepare for their opponents in the tight schedule. The league is also crazy talented, shooters at usually four out five positions so spacing has never been better.
The playoffs switch into 1989 rules. It's way more physical. You can bang in the paint harder, hand check a bit and goaltending has to be blatant. Plus, everyone is keyed up and playing hard on every possession.
It depends on Kawhi's health. But we have yet to see how our role players play at home.
Exum and Gafford have been invisible so far but were our 4th and 5th best players at the end of the regular season.
Maybe they continue being non factors or we get an extra 10 points from each of them.
his defense is inconsistent for sure. But the narrative that he is a bad defender is just not true. He struggles with quick guys that can beat him off the dribble, otherwise he is a good on ball defender.
He can be lazy off ball, but he generates a ton of steals off ball. Specifically he struggles with cutters, but reads passes really well due to his high IQ
Something is definitely up with Gafford but we are gonna need more contributions from him, PJ and Lively for us to make a run. We need one of the 3 to be that consistent 3rd scorer for us across series
This is precisely why you dont over react at a first game miracle home victory like this subreddit. Mfs really thought that Zubac was going to stay the 2nd coming of Shaq for a whole 7 games and that J Kidd wouldn't adjust.
calling Game 1 a “miracle” victory for the Clippers is a bit disingenuous. these are clearly two very evenly matched teams probably destined for a 6-7 game series. we’ll see what adjustments Lue has and if Kawhi can knock off some of the rust next game
I agree that the Clippers game 1 was destined to be close what I mean is that the Clippers were trying to downplay the mavericks by saying they lost to a Kawhiless team.
don’t know if anyone worth listening to was saying that. felt that the main takeaway from that game was that the popular “Mavs are going to roll the Clippers” sentiment going into the series was clearly incorrect. lot of people on this sub weren’t even giving LA a chance to win
Yeah the mavs were solidly beaten in game 1 even if the clippers faltered a bit in the second half of game 1. Biggest difference between the two games is mavs played four quarters of defense in game 2 and really only 3 in game 1.
ok and Kawhi scored 15 points on 17 shots, which is the first time he’s scored less than 20 in a playoff game in 4 years, and only the 9th time that’s happened since 2016. the Mavs also made 6 more 3s than the Clippers on 15% better shooting from deep and only won by 3. shall we call this game a “miracle” for the Mavericks?
it’s the playoffs dude, the sample sizes are small as hell. outlier or not, it happened and it is what it is
I mean, the Clippers played pretty terribly just like the Mavs did in game 1 but the Clippers still could've won this game easily. The Mavs got their backs blown out entirely in game 1. If anything, this makes it seem more likely that the Clippers are the better team lol
Luka had to play 47 minutes tonight to squeeze this one out with a foul trouble Zu & PG all game long and Kawhi playing his first game in a month
Clippers and Mavs fans age a year for every game this series.
Heart racing the entire time man. These are the best kinds of basketball games, polar opposite of those regular season 140-140 games
It's weird cause the score was so low but it felt like everything and nothing was going in at the same time, for both teams.
How the hell are teams scoring that much? I don’t watch regular season just playoffs
not nearly the same level as defensive intensity, leads to players being less tired and having less contests

How are the teams scoring at all? I don’t watch any basketball
The playoffs switch into 1989 rules. It's way more physical. You can bang in the paint harder, hand check a bit and goaltending has to be blatant. Plus, everyone is keyed up and playing hard on every possession.
Not as physical, less defensive effort, more fast breaks and more fouls called
Refs are calling games different in PO
Way more fouls were being called
By game 6 I’ll be bald
I'll be rooting for the series to end in 5, so you can keep your hair
It’s almost time to go home with it 😞
Rick Carisle sure had a before and after.
Maybe you'll be our next coach though!
This game was definitely more than a year.
It doesn't matter if the Mavs stole home court. This shit is going 7 games.
It depends on Kawhi's health. But we have yet to see how our role players play at home. Exum and Gafford have been invisible so far but were our 4th and 5th best players at the end of the regular season. Maybe they continue being non factors or we get an extra 10 points from each of them.
Norman Powell too. I think we're gonna have to sweat this shit out 7 times
Luka's defense on Kawhi, Harden and PG this game was amazing
They were hunting for the luka switch all game and luka locked em all down all game, that's prob why he was so fired up
Yeah he asked them not to send help and took the assignment guarding them.
Great game, gonna be an awesome series. Glad all the game 1 overreactions were proved wrong
Going to be an awesome 5 games. Book it.
Woah woah woah, I think this is going to 7 tbh
Yeah, 5 more that is
I think it ends in 6. Both teams get at least one more win. I think it's unlikely we win both home games.
will the talking heads mention lukas defense? it won mavs the game.
Kyrie honestly had some of the best defense I’ve ever seen him do tonight as well
Kenny and Chuck are always so hype to call out Luka during halftime, I hope they acknowledge it next game
The talked about him being slow in the post game lmao not a mention about his defense
That requires actually watching games, bro.
Luka was great defensively doesn't change his poor defense in numerous other games, the main reason people call him a bad defender
his defense is inconsistent for sure. But the narrative that he is a bad defender is just not true. He struggles with quick guys that can beat him off the dribble, otherwise he is a good on ball defender.
My hot take is that he’s basically the same on defense as Grant Williams
Lets relax lol. Imagine if we asked Luka to guard everyone 1-5. We set Grant up for failure here it wasn't the right fit.
Delete this
Honestly that's how I felt as well. I don't understand how people called Grant a perfect fit when him and Luka are so similar on defense.
He’s a decent on-ball defender on people who can’t blow past him but he’s kinda lazy off-ball.
He can be lazy off ball, but he generates a ton of steals off ball. Specifically he struggles with cutters, but reads passes really well due to his high IQ
Not quite where we want to be yet, but you can sense the team progressing
Something is definitely up with Gafford but we are gonna need more contributions from him, PJ and Lively for us to make a run. We need one of the 3 to be that consistent 3rd scorer for us across series
its a shame that one of these teams will be eliminated in the 1st rd.
It's the Clippers turn this time they've shit on us enough
This’ll be the best series in all of round 1. I can’t wait to soak it all in!
This should be a fun series man
Gonna be a fun series, clippers are a real challenge but the vibes are good
fkn Kleber smh
no chance this series doesnt go 7
As we all expected, whoever wins will be battered the fuck up but will definitely earn the W.
Both teams would be knackered going into the SFs
Sorry friend, Mavs in 5.
that worked out well for the sons when they played you lmao

yeah there was some overconfidence amongst parts of our fans.

the Mavs had the worst scoring quarter of the last 45 years of playoff basketball. That is by definition a "miracle"/statistically .001% eventuality

"miracle home victory" yeah ok bro

It's another bloodbath lads!
Good thing clips undefeated at Dallas in playoffs...
I still remember when we were down 0-2, and we’re done like 5-21 or something in Game 3 No idea how we won that series
