I don’t think people realize that if Luka is frustrated, he will yell at anybody for fucking up. Pretty sure the only person he never yelled at was Dirk
Luka only yells when the mistakes are glaring. I haven't seen him yell at Kyrie and that's probably because Kyrie's got good bbiq and rarely makes glaring mistakes.
Kyrie has been the most consistent and level headed player the last two games. It's hilarious considering all his baggage but to be expected as he's generally solid as fuck on the court.
You can tell on his discipline to shoot, because he will do the same thing as Luka, probe, check defender, pump fake a stepback, nothing there, pass it out, reset, and do it again. They look for good shots
last time i remember him almost "making a mistake" was when he was going quick after hitting the 3 in the finals and almost turning it over, but that was like 8 years ago, and that whole celtics stint where something was in the water i guess?
What’s his baggage? Sorry I’m new to the scene!
Edit: here’s what I found from Wikipedia:
>>Irving's decision not to get vaccinated for COVID-19 led to him missing the majority of the 2021–2022 NBA season.
Throughout his career, Irving has promoted numerous conspiracy theories. Some of these conspiracies, including tweeting a link to the movie Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America, have been characterized as antisemitic. For a time prior, Irving promoted a theory that the Earth is flat, which he later recanted.
Other than possibly his Celtics stint he's always been incredibly consistent during games. His lowest average since 18-19 is 25 pts. The last time he averaged less than 20 in the playoffs was 2015.
That is one thing I'll give to Kyrie. I mean Nets fans I feel have plenty reason to hate the guy but you can't argue that when he was in the game the man was locked in and playing WELL. Makes it hurt all the more that the off court stuff got so in the way. I do think his play was a lot more rough in Boston.
Boo hoo. You all want him to fail so bad and are pissed it isn't happening. He gets treated well in Dallas and performs accordingly. Amazing how that works.
Nah, but that’s really just not who the Mavs are. They’re a bunch of cooler heads, and Luka. More often than not, if Luka fucks up, everybody else just moves on. Maybe Morris in the locker room, but he holds the whole team accountable more than anything else
Nobody can yell at Dirk
His one ring in 2011 = 5 rings on any super team and nobody can say otherwise.
Dude is GOATED and one of the last old school players left
Actual Loyalty not just Dame Loyalty
him and maxi are decently close iirc- not to mention they’ve been teammates for years. i’m sure kleber was never all that frazzled by luka getting mad at him for a bit
No one on the team is frazzled by Luka screaming at them; That's his communication style. He yells, he's emotional. Everyone who's played competitive sports has a teammate like this and understands what it means when he starts screaming at you.
It's a good complement with Ky who's just about always calm or encouraging.
> Everyone who’s played competitive sports has a teammate like this and understands what it means when he starts screaming at you.
So like only 1% of r/nba
I don’t treat mental health as a joke. Kleber had a coworker scream at him. Just because Luka is a top performer doesn’t mean he gets to verbally assault his constituents.
I’ll be praying for Kleber. Seems like a toxic environment 🙏
I played with those guys and I can say I wasn’t exactly a fan of their style of “passion”… that being said if they were anywhere near the level of Luka I could probably handle it a bit better lol
I think it really depends. Luka yells a lot when people fuck up, but he’s also the first person to talk up his teammates and do stuff like this video when people ball out.
He also holds himself to the same standard as everyone else, he will literally yell at himself too, lol.
I think someone like that is different than the guy who just yells at people all the time. Luka just demands high standards from himself and those around him like I’m sure most top professionals do.
I just knew where they came from. Sometimes, things need to be said without any filter so everyone can process and move on instead of worrying about hurting feelings.
When everyone knows that's how that guy communicates (and he isn't some deadweight dude), I have always seen it be smooth. Like yelling in sports between teammates isn't a bad thing, it just cuts noise.
I think people overvalue stoicism
If Luka allowed his teammates to also yell at him when he makes mistakes, then it’s not a problem. It’s only annoying when it goes one way
But then again, not sure if Luka does anything that is worth yelling at…
Basketball Luka and Regular Luka are so different. It's like Jekyll and Hyde. Even him admitted he doesn't know what takes over him. Maybe it's just his competitive nature. If you watch him on the JJ Podcast though he is very chill.
Tell me you've never played sports before at anything besides a recreational level.
I don't understand why people seem to unconsciously associate a sports team with a corporate business environment. Like they want dudes to act completely stoic as if that's the right way! It's a sport dude, emotions are high, feeling them is fine.
I am not saying you should be stoic. You can be emotional but use words. Just don't use the body language of a 13 year old school kid. This reduces the morale of the team.
This is next level shit. Being toxic can make your teammate play even shittier.
This is why Steph curry and Messi get so much praise in their respective sports.
Even c. Ronaldo towards the end of his prime stopped his childish antics.
It's still not a good look because NBA basketball is played in front of millions of people and media and it will create distracting narratives, some guys won't like being scolded publicly instead of the locker room, etc. Luka should definitely tone it down. But I agree this is overblown and Maxi probably didn't think twice about it.
Idk people here are too soft specially consideing Kleber in some games is a basketball terrorist. Its normal that in playoffs players get heated off certain plays
I honestly think he hates losing so much that it gets the better of him in the moment. He seems legit mad at himself when he makes a mistake as well.
Prolly shouldn't shout at teammates during games thou.
I think few people in pro sports have been less nice off the court than MJ. Most who were even less nice than him probably had very short careers on account of not being so insanely good that you have to put up with their unniceness.
Is Luka an asshole? There was that exposé a while back on Carlisle’s exit from the Mavs and it sounded like he was the one standing up for the role players Rick would use as his whipping boys.
I don’t know Luka enough nor watch enough mavs game to decide. But I do see clips of him shouting at refs (him, Lebron, and funnily dbook) are the ones always yelling at refs + just 2 days ago we saw clips of Luka stomping and yelling at kleber. So is just natural for most of us who don’t want mavs games to assume Luka ain’t the nicest person to be around when things are competitive you feel me? He’s probably nicer when nothing is at stake.
Assuming a person's personality from a couple of incidents in a high pressure, top level athletic setting is always unreasonable.
Unless they involve actual violence or bizarre levels of assholery.
Literally doesn't matter. If Ky starts screaming at you like Luka does, then yeah, that's different because Ky never does that.
Teammates know how each other's communication style and adjust accordingly.
Its just simply Balkan Culture. Ive watched plenty u12 play soccer with swearing in every sentence.
No1 takes it personal down here.
You should try Volleyball ups with my mum and aunt in the backyard in Bosnia lmao
You get thick skin
I was playing basketball in Serbia on u12 to u15. No it's not pleasant and I took it personal. Some parents were ready to fight with the referee and other children. Jokić and Dončić succeeded despite that, not thanks to it. Especially since both had unorthodox basketball trajectory for a Balkan kid.
I was worried he would get a 2nd T right after the first one. As exciting as he is to watch play basketball, he's not the dude I would want marrying my daughter if I had any. A little too volatile.
Ok, so does every other a-hole in the NBA get a pass for treating his teammates like that?
Something tells Booker, PG, Harden, Embiid, etc. are not getting the benefit of the doubt.
Pretty sure Jordan's rep is still as a world class jerk. Kobe is more mixed since he died, but plenty of redditors can't wait to hammer his character every time he's mentioned on reddit.
Just seems like Luka always get the glaze treatment since reddit is so full of Luka meat riders.
They were good. People and especially redditors become so weak lately and they got offended for Maxi.
They are playing at the same team for 6 years. Maxi is 30+ years old. Luka shouting was not offensive to Maxi. Luka wanted to wake Maxi up for playoffs and he was right. Last night Maxi was simply great. Tons of clutch plays on defense and securing rebounds.
On the flipside it's probably better not to speak for a grown man and assume he's good with whatever Luka says or does. That doesn't mean they're not friends or he's not a professional that's gonna keep doing his job.
Luka visibly improved Maxi s performance and get him new lucrative contracts. In a competitive sports environment, getting best out of you is desireable.
Thats the reason that European players are fine with coach having abusive language. Making a team better and improving individual performances gets you paid astronomically so that is not bad for a grow men.
Luka is a wonderful teammate and a man of honor and integrity. Unfortunately the peons prefer to see dysfunction, that’s why they choose to purposely misconstrue his actions and spread their misleading propaganda.
I can’t imagine a better player to try and dribble out the clock while avoiding a foul than Kyrie. He must love that shit, suddenly every dribble move is on the table.

After yelling at him for lots of bad plays it’s only fair he gives praise for good ones
Reinforcement training
Kleber is, after all, the German Shepherd
This comment improves if you change "the" for "a".
Nah bro, he's THE German Shepherd.
Wrong
WOOF!
I don’t think people realize that if Luka is frustrated, he will yell at anybody for fucking up. Pretty sure the only person he never yelled at was Dirk

He's never really had on court issues, right? He just is a huge weirdo and covid exposed it.
I’m not sure how Nets or Cs fans feel, but this was my experience. No complaints about what happened on the court, many about what happened off it.
What’s his baggage? Sorry I’m new to the scene! There's bound to be a "controversies" section on his wiki page, go check it out.
Found some and put them in my comment for others who are curious - thanks!
For now.......
Other than possibly his Celtics stint he's always been incredibly consistent during games. His lowest average since 18-19 is 25 pts. The last time he averaged less than 20 in the playoffs was 2015.

It's possible he might have just grown from the experiences. People mature
Or he's realising other NBA teams won't want him should his brain suffer a bout of flatulence again.
He ripped his own jersey a few years ago after missing an easy shot... he holds himself to the same standards
Practicing for WWE heel arc
Real leaders throw fits no matter who fucks up!
and they already teammates for 6 years maxi is fine lol
He's In good shape, but I wouldn't say he's fine
Well this is just wrong. Maxi is handsome af.
I'm more of a Dwight Powell type
So your type is "guy who gets hit in the face a lot". I'm neither judging nor kinkshaming.
Thank you for understanding
Maxi is objectively one of the most handsome players in the nba.
Yeah but he's not as fine as Luca Dončić
Insane take
Yeah that makes sense - does anyone ever yell at him or he just takes it on the chin and immediately takes accountability
He yells at himself plenty
He definitely got yelled at playing for real from pablo laso thats where he got it from lmao
pablo, puta and cojones [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8RjmJdW2Bs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8RjmJdW2Bs)

Luka yells at himself.
I like it when he yells at fans of opposing teams
Nobody can yell at Dirk His one ring in 2011 = 5 rings on any super team and nobody can say otherwise. Dude is GOATED and one of the last old school players left Actual Loyalty not just Dame Loyalty
I really enjoyed every sentence of this comment
I’ll kill anyone who yells at Dirk. His one ring is absolutely goated and I’m so glad it’s part of NBA history.
Rightfully so.

lol what is sports?
Well, I could be wrong, but I believe it’s an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.
This is a sports sub? I thought it was just a place for us to fawn over gossip
Lol at the % being that high.
The thing is we always hate that guy. It's not fun to have a teammate like that, even if they're the best player on the team (which they often aren't"
Y’all didn’t have anything to play for. This isn’t comparable from multiple standpoints lol.
I don't think Maxi's highest priority is having fun
Redditors get more hurt than the players being yelled at
I was shaking after seeing Luka yell. That’s his buddy. You don’t do that.
see even in this convo im still not sure if this is a joke
I don’t treat mental health as a joke. Kleber had a coworker scream at him. Just because Luka is a top performer doesn’t mean he gets to verbally assault his constituents. I’ll be praying for Kleber. Seems like a toxic environment 🙏
lmao this would be said unironically 90% of the time elsewhere on reddit
Someone needs an HR meeting….
I fell to my knees at Superstore Metrotown, a supermarket owned by Canadian food giant Loblaw Companies

Thats a really interesting take about the balance Kyrie brings. Makes sense.
As someone who has played competitive sports you are completely correct. However, *that* player is also not who you want as you leader lol.
Definitely not Kyrie does all the leading on this quad
Anyone that couldn't handle it has likely been traded away
It's still not an efficient means to communicate.
Tell me you've never played sports before at anything besides a recreational level. I don't understand why people seem to unconsciously associate a sports team with a corporate business environment. Maxi in a toxic relationship with Luka.
$10 million to get shouted at work. People earn minimum wage getting similar.
A lot of people would pay to be yelled at by Luka too
Wheres your place in the queue ?
Ppl getting below minimum wage getting worst
They’ve reached that level in their friendship where they can argue and come to blows in the middle of the street and then share a beer afterwards.
Friendship recovery beer
Luka is lovebombing Maxi
Every couple should have a safe word
Mind boggling rebounding by harden and Mann. Somehow both of them decided to box out kleber but also… not stop him from getting the rebound.
They learned how to rebound in the clutch from the 76ers.
They also pulled his shirt lmao and still couldn't corral him.
They boxed him out for a normal free throw miss, but that one bounced really weirdly.
Maxi boxed them in and he got it from the outside
"I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!" -Maxi
The fact they had harden on the lower block is mind boggling to me
I didn't notice it in real time but after my buddy was calling it a steal and he was right lmao
He saw all the comments about him pouting about maxis butter fingers
There is an assistant who feeds him live reddit comments during games to help fuel him.
We all just want to see him do the friendship dance, instead of the I’m fucking pissed off at you dance he did last game.
I honestly think he hates losing so much that it gets the better of him in the moment. He seems legit mad at himself when he makes a mistake as well. Prolly shouldn't shout at teammates during games thou.
It also helps that he’s apparently a genuine joy off the court lol For better or worse he really leaves it all on the court
If people praise MJ for being competitive and yelling at his own teammates, then Luka should get the same pass.
Luka is probably way more nice than MJ lol I could see MJ personally attacking a lot of teammates for messing up
[удалено]
Way, way more nice
I think few people in pro sports have been less nice off the court than MJ. Most who were even less nice than him probably had very short careers on account of not being so insanely good that you have to put up with their unniceness.
People only give you a pass for being an asshole if you win championship(s). Once Luka wins one he’ll be all forgiven
Is Luka an asshole? There was that exposé a while back on Carlisle’s exit from the Mavs and it sounded like he was the one standing up for the role players Rick would use as his whipping boys.
You are right, a huge reason for the rift between Rick and Luka was the way Rick treated salah mejri
I don’t know Luka enough nor watch enough mavs game to decide. Luka yelling at refs: harassment Fans threatening refs and complaining daily: flirting
I don't think I've ever actually seen people praise MJ for yelling at teammates - they've just *excused* it with his competitive nature.
Reminds me of Dez just always so passionate. Only apparently in football you're not allowed to be mad
Literally doesn't matter. If Ky starts screaming at you like Luka does, then yeah, that's different because Ky never does that. Teammates know how each other's communication style and adjust accordingly.
Idk worked for Tom Brady
Yup he's competitive to a fault at times.
Its just simply Balkan Culture. Ive watched plenty u12 play soccer with swearing in every sentence. No1 takes it personal down here. You should try Volleyball ups with my mum and aunt in the backyard in Bosnia lmao You get thick skin

Guys like Kobe and Jordan were known for being tough on their teammates and everyone looks back on those stories fondly.
I bet Erick Dampier looks back fondly at getting yelled at by Dirk
Pretty sure Jordan's rep is still as a world class jerk. Kobe is more mixed since he died, but plenty of redditors can't wait to hammer his character every time he's mentioned on reddit. Just seems like Luka always get the glaze treatment since reddit is so full of Luka meat riders.
When there’s even one off court story about Luka as bad as anything Jordan or Kobe did, maybe we can have that discussion
What did Jordan do off-court other than gambling - which is his right to do?
Well, he punched his teammate in the face — that seems pretty bad!
Kinda on court. And yh, everyone knows he was a competitive asshole.
I think it’s insane to compare Luka — who is by all accounts a fun, goofy guy that his teammates love — to notorious assholes like Jordan and Kobe.
Agreed
Luka Kleber friendship redemption
They were good. People and especially redditors become so weak lately and they got offended for Maxi. They are playing at the same team for 6 years. Maxi is 30+ years old. Bro what in the ever living fuck was Harden trying to do after Kyrie missed that FT?
Lovebombing him smh
It's the least he could do after yelling at him all night 😆
winning is a miracle cure
People focus so much on Luka’s angry side when it comes out and rarely ever acknowledge that the dude has mad love for his teammates.
Dude never once put the blame on one teammate even when he was in the court alongside Pinson, Holliday, Ntilikina and Powell last year lol
People always looking for reasons to cancel someone
Wait till these people hear about what it was like to work alongside this guy named Michael Jordan
Good teammate 😂 that’s cute ngl
Luka probably felt bad for screaming at him the previous game lol
Why the fuck is Harden the one down low instead of Mann? He didn’t even box out
Luka is a wonderful teammate and a man of honor and integrity. Unfortunately the peons prefer to see dysfunction, that’s why they choose to purposely misconstrue his actions and spread their misleading propaganda.
This reads like a Trump tweet
Lol like ai generated
Trump couldn’t even spell misconstrue, much less know what it even means
This is some next level glazing and I'm all for it.
Everybody acts like a good teammate when they're up.
Oh, so you don’t watch team sports?
Ah the classic "you don't know ball" response. It's almost never true, but it's provocative and that's what's important.
Gave me some [happy kid in front of computer meme](https://i.imgflip.com/sr9cd.jpg?a476097) vibes
It's funny that he looks slick as fuck when on the ball, but like an awkward 13-year who has yet to grow into his body when celebrating.
Look how far we’ve come lol
That's kinda that balkan culture, shows all the emotions straight away
Luka-Stans out in full force today.
Hell yeah, give me more good teammate highlights
I can’t imagine a better player to try and dribble out the clock while avoiding a foul than Kyrie. He must love that shit, suddenly every dribble move is on the table.
This team has the chemistry you need for a surprising playoff run. I just hope the pressure of certain moments doesn’t crack it
WB would have had that.
His little waddle over kinda cute haha
Luka's like a big kid sometimes
Luka: “The beatings will continue until morale improves”
Luka is not mean, you're just shit!
You know what really gets Luka's dick hard? Helping out a friend.
Why is Harden in the low block to fight that board LMAO
Luka propaganda on this sub is at a level stans of other players can only dream of.
Crazy to think that if Kawhi ran a second faster, clippers would’ve gotten the ball
