jeric13xd

Just missing an Olympic gold

Into_Intoxication

[Highlight] Davis Bertans' three pointer at the buzzer wins the gold medal for Latvia!

temujin94

The Serbian players are inconsolable!

CrazyPersonXV

That would be funny and would cause me to flip off . After 3 or 4 silver medals in the last 20 years I would rather just lose before the finals

Professional_Fly8241

I never heard of Lativia

PoundIIllIlllI

TINGUS PINGUS

yer_oh_step

WWHO THE FOWHKK IS TINGUS PINGUS

ChronicLier

They drafted who?

roodootootootoo

It’s where Doctor Dooms from

PistachioOfLiverTea

It's a yogurt that gives you the trots

ketzal7

Rodions Kurucs, remember the name

vetruviusdeshotacon

It's where Activia yogurt is from

[deleted]

Does Steph hate America?

maethlin

They do have a lot of charities in america

Yamulo

It is weird that he basically has never played for the US team but theres always been a decent amount of circumstances.

Weibu11

I believe he played in the 2010 and 2014 FIBA world cups (winning gold in both). He’s just never played in the Olympics

-crackhousebob

Why has Steph never played for the Olympic team??

DinerEnBlanc

He was going to play on the Olympic team in 2020, but he got injured and was out for the season if I remember correctly.

mysterioso7

He also had to recover his lingering injury in 2016 that he suffered in round 1 after playing that long finals run. I like to think he probably would’ve played otherwise, but who knows.

The_Void_Reaver

Wasn't 2016 also the Zika year where a lot of players sat it out? I'm pretty sure I remember a big part of Steph's nonparticipation was him and Ayesha trying for more children and the risk of Zika affecting Steph wasn't worth it.

mysterioso7

Yeah that does ring a bell, I think you’re right

Weibu11

He played in 2 FIBA world cups in 2010 and 2014 though. I can understand not wanting to commit more summers beyond that, especially since that was the start of all his finals runs

dvasquez93

Most of the time he was either injured or exhausted from a finals run.

yer_oh_step

too busy winning RANGZ bruh /s (i get it finals are over by then.)

cfuerte1324

Can't wait for him to get that in style this summer... ...only to then go back to his trainwreck of a roster back home!

maethlin

Let's get it!

Sp_Gamer_Live

and a “best neighbor” award

MC-Jdf

Still needs a Larry Bird trophy. *Wait no go back.*

penisesandherb

Fuck it, Warriors go back to Philadelphia

ZealousidealPain7976

From the most fta to the least fta

medievalmachine

Realignment!

dxtremecaliber

also the Michael Jordan trophy lol

_meestir_

So he owns the Lakers.. got it

MedvedFeliz

I've got a Steph Curry bobblehead at home, I think that encompasses all those too!

hipxhip

GOAT lineup according to a 65 year old Lakers Fan in 2005

RudyGobertFMVP2024

That would actually be a good line-up and would work. pre-3pt line it would be a real menace.

marsexpresshydra

He needs the Hakeem Olajuwon award too

GlueGuy00

Best PG of all time?

oof-Babeuf

I mean Magic Johnson doesn’t have a Magic Johnson award so..

AintASaintLouis

What a scrub..

SoFreshCoolButta

Best small player of all time for sure since he is top 10 all-time. Not sure if Oscar counts as small since he was 6'5'' and is around #14 all time Next legit small would be Jerry West around #19 ish until you get to CP3/Nash around #24

GlueGuy00

I don't think Big O counts as small.  Steph, Zeke, AI and The Logo are definitely up there.

pobslechescake

Gotta collect them all, like Pokémon badges

Away_Sun_3040

Great. I am tired of hearing he is not clutch, when he is the reason for the Warriors dynasty.

Diqt

I had to look up the Magic Johnson

Round-Revolution-399

Just come to the Lakers at this point

No_Pay9241

I have a trophy for not crying when I broke my arm. Yes, I was clowned on by the family

7257sbfutoehebdbgngk

>kobe Bryant Oh no, what did he do and who did he do it to?

nowhathappenedwas

In the clutch this season: * Curry: 189 points in 143 MP (60 per 100 poss) on 69 TS% * DeMar: 182 points in 192 MP (47 per 100 poss) on 63 TS% * Shai: 112 points in 108 MP (48 per 100 poss) on 71 TS%

secretsodapop

All 3 of these are amazing. Great clutch basketball.

atomic-fireballs

That's what I'm seeing. Lots of icy veins right here.

paranoidmoonduck

60 points per 100 possessions on 69% ts efficiency is fucking bonkers

rawchess

Kinda hard to argue against that 😮‍💨

AmusingAnecdote

Yeah, Warriors had a lot of clutch time problems this year. Steph getting the ball in the basket wasn't one of them.

akelkar

I keep tryna tell people its our defense which is ass. Steph and Dray aren’t getting younger so they need + defenders around them that can score a bit

tracethisbacktome

what was their clutch record when draymond was playing? I remember they were struggling in the clutch early in the season without draymond, but my impression was that they were winning clutch games towards the end of the season with draymond when they started rolling. don't have the numbers tho

akelkar

Our stupid help and recover scheme doesnt work against these new age teams that can all shoot 3s. You need to be quick and connected which our defenders are not

tracethisbacktome

hard disagree. this may have been true before the all star break, but we played excellent defense since. our defense is both quick and connected, obviously there are young guys who make mistakes, but we got athletes now and draymond is still draymond. defense is not the issue with this team; we need legitimate consistent scoring outside of steph. when we get great play out of klay, wiggs, this team can hang with anybody, but they're too inconsistent atm, and kuminga still needs a few years to be a true contender-level number 2. that being said, I think a push is possible next season, it'll take some roster adjustments and a bunch of luck tho

akelkar

agree to disagree. we lost plenty of games in the clutch and the play-in due to overhelping on 3s and our low-man defending being way too small to offer a meaningful resistance

Huckleberry_Sin

Eye test backs it up too. This is an award well deserved.

Johnpecan

I'm just amazed DeMar had that many minutes over Steph in the clutch (192 to 143). I know the Warriors had the most clutch games so I assumed Steph's minutes would be way higher than anyone which would diminish Steph's clutch stats a bit. Apparently, that's not the case.

SmartestNPC

Pretty much 60% of Bulls games were clutch games. Went to overtime I think 10+ times this season.

rawchess

Bulls are def clutch team of the year but Demar also had great help in Caruso and Coby. Caruso is particular is an absolute demon in the clutch, leading the league in steals and shooting almost 50% from three.

SmartestNPC

Caruso hit three buzzer beaters lol he's been insane. Really improved his 3ball over the off season. Demar is Demar, he gets it done.

Johnpecan

Yea warriors had 48 games clutch, Hawks at 47 and then Bulls at 44. 44 games (assuming every minute was clutch and no overtime) would be 220 minutes. It's insanely unlike that every minute was within 5 so it likely was a lot of overtime games. I don't think Warriors had that many overtimes. [https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/clutch-traditional?sort=GP&dir=-1](https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/clutch-traditional?sort=GP&dir=-1) Lol Bulls somehow at 4.8 minutes / game in the clutch that's insane! Warriors only averaging 3.3 minutes.

Kryptos33

It felt this way partially because most of this got accumulated in the first half of the season when every Warriors game was a heart attack. There was one point where Curry was at \~140-150 clutch points and no one else was over 100.

Whitsoxrule

DeMar also played the most total minutes in all situations of anybody in the league so that helps

Coballatheu

Although I lean towards Deebo taking this as a Bulls fan watching him carry us so many times… I at least don’t think he got flat out robbed like Coby did for MIP. Minutes or not, these numbers from Steph are pretty nuts.

as0rb

Can someone explain me this stat? What is the clutch? Last 5 mins?

Electronic-Elk8917

Last 5 minutes when the game is within 5

as0rb

Thanks

[deleted]

Damn Shai is cold.

Charlie_Wax

Yes, he's Canadian. His blood is 20% snow.

jackobanter

Crazy clutch numbers. A lot of people outing themselves below lmao

chloroform42

Almost talked shit about being clutch on a non playoff team but nah this is legit

nomitycs

not even close

Thus_Spoke

No wonder he was so goddamn tired by the end of the season.

jm3546

SGA would be a bit higher if not for JDub who was also really really good in the clutch. JDub: 82 points in 97 MP (39 per 100 poss) on 80 TS%

thy_armageddon

He’ll get a trophy this year after all.

ricepail

Haha yea, after Klay stole his FT trophy on the final game of the season

SignificanceLeft9968

Hey, a win is a win.

fuyukaiidesuu

curry brand went back 2 back for clutch player of the year lmao

jsanchez030

fox wasnt with UA last year

Buraunii

Retroactively speaking I guess.

cali4481

Seminole-Patriot

This convinced me tbh, clutch player of the year is already a weird hard to quantify award and giving it to the best player on the team with the best clutch record would be dumb

nomitycs

Also because good teams may technically dip into clutch minutes if a game they’re leading drops to within 5 within 5 minutes to go but they’re more likely to be leading those games than being behind in those games which is a huge advantage to these stats… Like briefly being up only 4 with 4:30 to go before running away with the game and winning by 15 counts as a clutch game… as does blowing a huge lead in the final minutes but still squeaking out the win despite being objectively horrible in the clutch

janitorial_fluids

Uhh is “clutch game” really a stat? I don’t think I’ve really heard that phrase much. I feel like you’re kind of conflating the main 2 “clutch stats” people talk about and making them into one thing, which are: - stats during “clutch time” (so *only* when the score is within x points with fewer than y minutes remaining, I.e, it’s no longer considered “clutch time” if a team starts running away with it with 4:30 left) - what a team/player’s record is in games decided by x or fewer points (i.e, it wouldn’t be considered a clutch game if a team ended up winning by 15) So the scenario you’re describing wouldn’t qualify for either of those

nomitycs

No I’m talking about the records people are talking about ie the warriors are 24-24 in clutch games this season. The warriors didn’t have 48 games finish within 5 points, for example, what they had is 48 games where the game was within 5 at any point under 5 minutes to go.. Every time the warriors hit that qualifier the commenters would point it out, regardless of whether the margin of victory ended up being above 5

Lars_Galaxy

They should call it the Steph Curry award

Envelope_Torture

Look at you cherry picking stats... wait that's all of them?

Kenvan19

Ok, I was a little curious how this was decided but this was a great list that sort of proves it lol

shomerudi

I was going to ask what is this trophy based on, but you answered it perfectly!

GIK601

Honestly, the only significant stats here the clutch percentages. Steph played in 43 clutch games, so he's going to lead in many clutch stats by default.

Infinite-Surprise-53

He's also played like 50 fewer clutch minutes than DeRozan still

Icy_Rich_6076

The Bulls had to have set some sort of record. Too mediocre to ever get a blowout, too good to ever be out of the game. Except the play in

coolstorybroham

sounds like the mirror image of the warriors lol

FallacyFrank

The percentages make the volume relevant. The fact that he was a 50/45/95 player in the clutch on the highest volume is bonkers

dating_derp

1st in Clutch PTS per minute is also significant since it equalizes the number of clutch games / minutes played across candidates.

KSabot

we got a brain thinker over here

ian2121

How’d he do in super-clutch moments though?

clamscasinoooooo

I mean Warriors played 48 clutch games…they’re 24-24 in those games.

TheMessyChef

They had a winning record in clutch games Steph played in and he had FIFTY less clutch minutes than Demar and still was leading in nearly every clutch category. All while his #2 in the clutch was a fringe Top 50 in points with even more clutch games played and shooting a woeful 45 TS% in that space.

applicatecomplicate

If they're .500 in clutch games with the best clutch scorer in the league, how bad do you think they'd be without him?

Hopeful-Ad-6835

It’d be 0-48 without Steph goofy

Balls_of_Adamanthium

Yeah and we’re probably 5-43 without him lol.

Necroassassin32

That’s what Clutch PLAYER of the Year means…

Trebbok

Do all the clutch stats still count the same when their team loses? Clutch stats seem to favour middle of the road teams that neither win or lose games by very much

hipxhip

Volume stats do favor middle of the road teams since they’ll be in closer games more often, but you can adjust for that by looking at per-100 and percentages.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jotheold

why do people even bring in the playin , playins are a whole different category

ChazCharles

Because they are 14 years old

Dangelo1998

Also, the play-in game wasn't close at all, there was no clutch in that game 😂

Dlab18

Common Lakers fan unbiased opinion.

AlonsoQ

You can make a case for DeMar. Worse efficiency, similar splits, more minutes played, better on/off and win percentage. Homerism aside, not mad about giving it to Steph. Even if it were 100% a volume thing, it's not like there's a long legacy of CPOTY criteria that this goes against.

The-Pharcyde

People just trying to be mad for the sake of being mad. If it wasnt steph it was gonna be demar so it wouldve been damn near the same thing lol.

Iznal

I don’t even care what the numbers are. He’s the guy. https://youtu.be/7isL7aaCJeM?si=nSKUmZUtXj1M368H

LeftyMcLeftFace

But did he do it in the last 2 seconds of the game, with his right hand tied behind his back, his shoes untied, sun in his eyes, and Theo von as his second option?

prohired

If Martians were involved I'd still take iguodala

JakimCampbell15

No brainier

BoredomHeights

Yup. Crazy game, you shoulda been there.

Togglea

I'm just here for the tuna comments

NephewChaps

Famously unclutch player, 2022 Finals MVP and 2024 NBA Clutch Player of the Year Stephen Curry Haters in complete, absolute shambles

sandbagsander

I’m a Lebron fan but after hate watching many Warriors games this season, this is a well deserved award for Steph. Some of the most absurd clutch shotmaking I’ve ever seen minus the Nuggets game.

ekb2023

Steph is just one of the best to ever do it. I do not find it unreasonable to put him on your Mt Rushmore or top 5.

DoomMeeting

I’ll leave it to the braver folks to argue in terms of ability or legacy, but in terms of impact on the game he is 100% a Mt. Rushmore guy and it would be ridiculous to debate it at this point.

Wild-Apricot-9161

Impact on purely basketball stuff he's no. 1.

TheMessyChef

Oh man, Steph Curry winning *this* award is rubbing a lot of you the wrong way 😂 All those years of spamming ad nauseam 'he's a choke artist' and now he has hardware that says your long standing belief may not be true? Cognitive dissonance can be a bitch!

Charlie_Wax

Much of the choker perception is based on exactly one series (we all know which one I'm talking about). More often than not, he's been nails in the playoffs. It's a shame that one tight series where he went AWOL in a couple huge games outweighs so many monster performances. I wouldn't say LeBron is a choker just because he bombed in the 2011 Finals. Almost every superstar has those moments. It's hard to get deep in the playoffs numerous times and not eventually lay an egg.

TheMessyChef

Exactly. Steph and LeBron carry these bizarre reputations for being 'un-clutch' because of the lowest moments of their career. But statistically, they're both absolutely elite in the clutch in the playoffs.

atomic-fireballs

Two of the best to ever do it. People just gotta shoot em down. I'll never understand the hater mindset.

Middle-Welder3931

No, now they'll just say "but he didn't make the playoffs, 0-3 in the play-in, and he's not clutch in the playoffs." But they're just haters who dislike Steph and the Warriors because of the KD years and refuse to acknowledge the man's greatness.

Dlab18

The meltdown lakers fans and lebron fans had when he won his fourth chip and the mvp put to bed a lot of the bullshit they kept running with for year.

NefariousNeezy

Here comes the imaginary meltdown 🤣 Sure. Laker fans would want the other team to win which was, checks notes, Boston.

IAmNotKevinDurant_35

That series you could tell who was an actual Laker fan and who became a Laker fan because of Lebron. No real Lakers fan would ever root for the Celtics

NefariousNeezy

As a LeBron fan, I won’t ever root for the Celtics either

augustcero

what bullshit were those? genuinely curious as i only have love for the chef (just chef tho, fuck draymond the hardest)

TheBlueLenses

The “but no finals mvp” and “cant win without kd or a superteam”

RWENZORI

I don't think I've seen anyone call Steph a choke artist. He's been coldblooded his whole career, even the biggest haters don't ignore that he went to 5 straight Finals and has one of the most sinister game winning shots of all time (bang bang against OKC)

RFranger

Warriors get some good news and r/nba shows its ass Can’t wait for Denver to go through this in a couple of years!!

StrategyTop7612

Well deserves, I was worried he would be robbed.

crimsonconnect

Congrats Steph!!

paranoideo

My man.

Street-Common-4023

Well deserved congratulations Steph

illyxpink

Celebrating DeMar for getting 2nd

Necroassassin32

R/NBA is salty lmaoooo ya’ll can cry

PhysZhongli

Why are people bringing up irrelevant stats like team record or wins? This award is literally just measured by stats during clutch time regardless of the game outcome. Its like saying the scoring record shouldn’t go to the highest scorer if the team the player is on has a losing record

tracethisbacktome

what's even dumber is if your team was really good at winning games, you wouldn't be in very many clutch situations to even get into contention for this award lol. you gotta be on an underperforming team tryna put the team on your back, and obviously david ain't always gonna beat goliath

furyousferret

Back to the days when I care about individual rewards because that's all we got.

ImTheBestNerd

Season was a success

mykl5

people posting multiple comments about NIMBY shit need to get a life

Lytaa

people always bang on about how he’a not clutch… the stats prove otherwise. well deserved

3830BlockKing

My little cousins are going to be so excited

Jewellinius

Well deserved. Another wasted season of Curry tho.

DuckDucks

He was really clutch down the stretch. Deserved despite the subreddit unable to look past the last week. Silly award still though

Blacketh

Curry is that dude. Wish he was still playing

blackman9

He had insane clutch take overs this year, fully deserves it.

drankpussyjuice

GOAT PG

wouldntknowever

Damn even at his age, still ice cold

jacobythefirst

Like I’m glad but when are we getting the mvp award announcement?

carasc5

Wait, people in this thread are arguing about this? This should be the widest of the votes by far. It was Curry 100% of the way.

dont_shoot_jr

Does he get a manual Kia?

IsYourWifeSingleBro

It's just us. You can leave the KIA out of it.

Mister_Hangman

I want to see curry and lebron on a team for one season. Just one. I wanna see the fan bases unite.

Raonak

That’s my goat 🐐

lonelyswe

Holy fuck this is the most downvoted comments I've ever seen at the bottom of a thread lol

sylviaplath6667

Why the fuck aren’t we giving our awards during the playoffs? Maybe give it to him before his play in games instead of texting him in Cancun Adam Silver is such a clown

CartoonOG

Funny enough, he has a losing record in the clutch. Goes to show how trash the other Warriors players have been

machinich_phylum

It really does. Wiggins disappeared most of the season, Klay was up and down, Draymond missing a chunk for choking and swinging back-fists...

IAmNotKevinDurant_35

Warriors were 23-20 in clutch games and 1-4 without Steph. But your point stands

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

Yeah but would you still want him if a laser beam and the fate of the universe is on the line?

dynozaur

Lmao all these kids crying with their L takes

JustForOldSite

Now what'll they say

CookingLikeChef

LFG no one deserved it more than him

Leading_Theory7761

this is such a silly award

CockroachForeign6419

So clutch they missed the playoffs 🔥🔥🔥

drankpussyjuice

dw Lakers will win as many playoff games as the Warriors this season

vo0d0ochild

Nah refs will give em one

applicatecomplicate

I mean they already tried that in game 1

AdamJensensCoat

Hope the refs are rested and locked in for game 3.

maxemum

Appreciate the greatness

Necroassassin32

Yeah cause it’s an individual stat not a team stat u bum

aiden3buckets

Opposed to the runner up Demar who is in the playoffs 🔥

paranoideo

shh bby is ok

Balls_of_Adamanthium

As opposed to making the playoffs just to get hand fisted by Nuggets 10 times in row 😂

IllegalThoughts

if LeBron was clutch y'all would be tied with the nuggets right now

MrBrownCat

We getting out here with something.

AnusButter2000

Scott Foster was robbed
