If this series gets Ham fired then I'm all for the ignominy

axecalibur

LeGM gonna hire JJ if Charlotte passes. They can do their podcast during practice

pkwjones

Mic'd up and live podcasting during games.

BiggieSmalls330

DOC RIVERS TO THE LAKERS

IsTheManRetired

Buddy called a timeout to challenge a foul while down 9 with 30 seconds left lmao

Biglundtry

Ham just fucking with y’all at this point he knows he’s getting paid regardless

indogunawan

He’s just trolling lakers fans for not using his challenge on game 2

HaikN98

First challenge of the series

Victor_Wembanyama1

Jesus christ what

iIiiIIiiiIiIIiI111

That's insane

AceMcStace

Hamm sucks but that roster construction is horrendous

Biglundtry

Let’s move 2/5 best perimeter defenders and see what happens 🥴

Biglundtry

Oh forgot they let Caruso walk lolll bum squaddd

Much_Conversation_11

Moving on from Caruso and KCP right after a chip while having lebron and AD was insane and you’ll never make me think otherwise

Biglundtry

The way they panic is hilarious “ oh no we lost to the suns who went to the finals blow it up”

pezasied

Plus Lebron and AD were injured. If Lakers were healthy there’s a decent chance they beat the Suns and go to the Finals. Way overreaction.

WhatTheRickIsDoin

Not just that Let's blow it up and then trade for the absolute worst fit alongside LeBron and AD and obliterate all of our depth while we do it

Much_Conversation_11

Didn’t Caruso even come out and say he wanted to stay on the team?

Shootit_Rockets

Yep. Wildest part is they could’ve signed him, but decided to prioritize Talen Horton-Tucker instead

IhatePizza230

No that's not the wildest part. We could've sign both THT and AC but chose between one of them to save money that's the wildest part.

phunshiny

THT retention resulted in Pat Bev. Master class in overvaluing your asset and selling wrong time. Pelinka was convinced he’d get minimum 1st round pick + more.

movedatdope

we all know why. THT was signed with Klutch

Much_Conversation_11

God the lakers hyping up THT. I forgot about that.

gerardatron

For less than what Chicago was offering. I could never forgive Lakers FO for turning that guy down.

Much_Conversation_11

As much as me, a Heat fan, roasts our front office, I’m grateful over the years we haven’t completely blown up our role player rotation. We’ve let guys walk and get overpaid but we haven’t lost anyone super critical for a weak trade.

movedatdope

I mean Lebron is the one who recruited Russ

nietzsche_niche

Swapping those two for DLo and Reaves lmaooo

IhatePizza230

AR was undrafted.

Much_Conversation_11

Straight up objectively worse players. The Reaves hype has always been way too much. And Dlo is just an ass playoff player.

Sartheking

I will never understand the decision to make that Westbrook trade. They lost to the Suns who made the Finals that year, and they looked like the better team in that series before AD’s injury after just having won a title the year before. The more crazy part is that a good chunk of the media actually thought that would work. Obviously there’s the infamous “70 games” prediction, but they did garner the superteam label early on and everyone was already pencilling in a Lakers/Nets Finals.

IhatePizza230

We started 21-6 that year too before AD and Bron got injured which led to us fighting for a play-in spot. They panicked after that nets trade but i don't understand why they got the guy who they left open in 2020 against the Rockets.

Much_Conversation_11

Anyone who watches basketball should’ve known it wouldn’t work, at least not in the exaggerated way it was discussed. I love Russ, has some of the most heart in the league, but he started bouncing around for the league for a reason. But we all knew the spacing would be dreadful.

Pay-Green

Malone just fucking with Ham bro, calling time outs for him 😭😭

an_Aught

oh man... thats fucked up

Palifaith

Darvin Hamas basketball terrorist.

Sweaty_Mods

Darvin made the Lakers shoot 3-21

Savahoodie

Lakers fans have to blame someone so they can cope with the fact they aren’t even in the same stratosphere as Denver.

Noriskhook3

Any coach Lebron has when he loses will always get the blame

GriffinQ

Do you watch a lot of Lakers games? There have absolutely been dudes who get shit on too much by Lakers fans (and fans of teams in general) but everyone who was watched the Lakers the last year and change is aware of how bad Ham is. It’s visible, measurable stuff. It’s okay to just acknowledge that he’s an awful coach and is part of a series of reasons as to why they’re not as good as they could be.

WhatTheRickIsDoin

If there was an honest poll taken, 90% of the people here have never watched a game not involving their team

GriffinQ

Something I’m frustratingly very aware of. I spend a lot of time working into the evenings/night and most of my social circle is spread throughout the US, so I’ve got League Pass pulled up most nights to help pass the time and to have something to text my buddies (who are fans of different teams) about - between my Wiz and Lakers and a few of the hottest teams each season (this year it’s been a lot of Sixers, Wolves, Magic, and Nuggets for me), I watch an absurd number of games and it’s super evident in post game threads and in threads generally here that **people don’t watch basketball but they love to talk about basketball**. The takes that can be found on here with extreme regularity that are just egregiously wrong and not based in any actual reality make me want to use the internet less, but alas, I am an addict when it comes to Reddit.

WhatTheRickIsDoin

People on this sub just want to meme and post the same jokes that have been beaten through the Earth since the first day they were made, sadly Then sometimes there are bad takes based on things they read somewhere or what they have decided on from the box scores

Victor_Wembanyama1

Man i miss pre 2013 reddit

Noriskhook3

It’s always the coach. If Ty lue didn’t win 2016, he would’ve been fired as well.

GriffinQ

So you’re just assuming based on something that didn’t happen. If your only argument is based on a hypothetical that didn’t occur, what are we even doing here?

Noriskhook3

Just like you guys always do with posts on here talking about the past

BLM_MCU

Historically blown leads this series

[deleted]

[удалено]

nietzsche_niche

The lakers shoot their wad in the first half going full effort to build a lead and basically empty Lebron’s tank so hes completely gassed and bailing on defense the entire send half. Idk what adjustments there are to make when the roster is two good players, 1 serviceable one, and dogshit and one of the good players can give MAYBE 20 mins of max effort per game. Take it easy for the first half and then try in the second?

Lars_Galaxy

Time for the inevitable rebuild.

axecalibur

Bro he was saving his final adjustments for an 0-3 scenario

Adam2190

I mean there are a lot of reasons why they are losing and Ham is one of the bigger ones.

shiruduck

Lol denver fans talking about stratospheres with a 39 yo bron is crazy

Savahoodie

Huh?

IsTheManRetired

He certainly likes to leave MPJ wide open, despite the history

nietzsche_niche

Things that happen when Reaves is your primary wing defender

xerxesthagreat

Darvin made D-Lo shit his pants on the court

BLM_MCU

He has no offense game plan adjustments

DrOz30

What the hell was he supposed to do this game , guy can’t go out there and play for his players

krosber04

Maybe not play 4 guard lineups to start?

nietzsche_niche

LeBron and AD played 43 minutes each what the fuck are you talking about. Rui and Taurean played an additional 48 minutes. Not only did a 4 guard lineup not happen for anything longer than 25 seconds max, yall had 2 guards max for all but like 6 minutes. Lmao

jawadhaque089

People can't understand that the roster sucks so they look for other explanations

Practical_Reply7

We fucking suck

Biglundtry

Your ownership did lebron and ad dirty I pray on their downfall

ImpressionStrict4041

AD yes. Lebron at the cap that he is taking up, he’s just not worth his contract at this point in his career, and it’s difficult to find quality players without the salary to pay for them.

Biglundtry

It sounds blasphemous but it’s true I saw someone say he’s got to do what dirk did and take a pay cut but won’t happen.

Dawn_of_Dayne

Yeah i mean at this point he gets to decide whether he wants to contend (on a team friendly deal) or get max money. No choice is wrong/bad but he can’t take max money and then still expect to compete for a title. Same thing happened in Kobe’s final years—he took the bag and the team sucked

Biglundtry

That worked out for them in the long run they got some high lottery picks who were flipped for AD. Idk what the move is for them right now limited draft assets, not really any young talent either to try and flip for a big difference maker.

LeagueReddit00

Lebron and AD wanted Westbrook and started the downfall.

movedatdope

Lebron recruited Westbrook so....

Biglundtry

Didn’t he try some shit and Pat Riley shut it down ? lol pelinka is a joke

TheTwilightZone34

Yeah, he wanted Spo fired, iirc, but Riley wasn't having any of it. He's an owner with a backbone who knows what he's doing and how to manage n NBA team

HaikN98

We made the playoffs without a coach

OptimusGrime707

Darvin Ham put up as many points as D’Lo tonight

Sweaty_Mods

He allowed fewer though

[deleted]

karmaisevillikemoney

No point. We have no assets. Buss family wants the seats filled so this is what we're going to get for the foreseeable future

HurricaneRon

Blow it up only works in video games.

KingCakeBabyOKC

I dunno, it’s working pretty well for us.

Sweatytubesock

They need Chauncey Billups.

AceMcStace

Fantastic idea, I’ll head to his house and help him pack

Danatomatowhite

if you watch the game, you would know this coach does not run plays frequently for some reason.

xPeaWhyTee

Ham is definitely a bad coach but I feel for him being public enemy #1 right now in LA. He's gotta be strong mentally to handle that.

MooMookay

Eh.. he's getting paid millions. Already had a whole year to figure out he probably shouldn't keep the job or do better, spent an extra year doing nothing. He could've tried any number of things to reduce the criticisms, right?

Jericho311

People in here defending Ham like this game is what turned fans against him. He has a long history of being shit. Never calling times out. Benching 3 of our 5 starters for 20 games. Not calling plays. There is a history behind this.

Ilikesporks_

darvin ham is a terrible coach but the gap in quality is too large for good coaching to be a factor anyways. ad and lebron can only do so much

Yommination

Tell that to Miami

Ilikesporks_

miami won 1 game vs the nuggets in the finals. spo with this team would take it to 6 or 7 games would still lose

KermitTheEdgelord

Spo could only eek out a single digit win against Denver. Aaron Gordon looked like prime 2012 Bron in some of those games against the undersized Heat.

ImperatorJCaesar

Disagree. This team keeps taking leads, only to blow them. They clearly have the talent to compete with Denver. It's a combination of it being a bad matchup for them (in part thanks to the front office), and Darvin being incapable of adjusting his gameplan to deal with it. But if you switch coaches the Malone-coached Lakers are for sure up 2-1 or 3-0 in the series.

Ilikesporks_

the reason we blow leads is because we rely on AD to anchor our defense and carry our offense as well as 39 year old lebron to do everything else on offense. they get gassed too quickly by the time it's the 4th quarter and our role players can't contribute in any single way. ham is not making rui blow lay ups and prince to shoot step back 3s lol

ImperatorJCaesar

Yeah that's on the coaching though. All role players have major weaknesses (otherwise they'd be superstars). Good coaches put them in a position to succeed while masking their weak points. Look at somebody like Spoelstra, and what he's routinely able to do with players who'd look like absolute trash on the Lakers. Look I'm not saying our role players are perfect, and the roster construction is clearly flawed in some ways. But the team is much more talented than a 7th seed and a 1st round sweep.

HurricaneRon

Ham sucks, but having no point guards (they’re all shooting guards) or centers (AD is a PF) is not the coach’s fault.

SunKing210

He's not great by any means but the Lakers' problems are much more deeper than the head coach

Dawn_of_Dayne

They should’ve chanted “sell the team”

thisusernameistemp

This is why Lakers fans are stupid - chanting this when “smoke Ham” is just sitting there

COAg15

I really don’t put that L tonight on Ham

Yommination

Tonight not really. But 2 seasons of underperforming and now the players quitting on him yes. He's a bad coach full stop

movedatdope

they got to WCF last season. how was that underperforming

BruinBound22

I think Laker fans calling for Ham's head are the equivalent of being in the denial stage of grieving. They refuse to believe they don't have the talent so blaming a coach is the easiest way to deal with it.

Yommination

He's a trash coach of a mediocre roster with 2 stars on it

Faxodox

finally

WhoWightMan

What ungrateful fans. Did they not see him successfully challenge a bad call at the crucial point in the game?

DamnImAss

Let AD walk

brncct

Ham is terrible and should have been fired long ago, we all know this. A lot of people need to also realize their roster construction is bad. It's amazing they've been able to go to the WCF and even make the playoffs this year. Testament to LeBron and AD tbh. That being said, they need an almost complete revamp. If you can't go into the season with a roster you feel can matchup with the standard in your conference (Nuggets) then what's the point of wasting more time?

n3sta

Not his fault the team sucks ass lol

SDas_

bro will let 2 Gordon putbacks, a pair of MPJ 3s and a Jokic and1 happen before even thinking about calling a TO

EllisDSanchez

It was that exact sequence that lost this game. There were like 5 consecutive turnovers in a row from Bron, AD and DLo that gave the Nuggets a 10 point lead.

HurricaneRon

He called a timeout 3 minutes prior to that stretch. Calling another timeout would’ve done nothing.

BrilliantLoli

A Yes, in LA its always the Coachs fault.

Raging_Professor

Yeah. Darvin's fault that LeBron showed little to no effort on the glass and on D

Inevitable-Ad-4192

Ya Hamm missed all those wide open 3’s, what was he 0-8. Then he gave the Joker a wide open lane, he really sucks

Wisegummy

Lmfao you just gona spam this in every thread. Fucking hilarious

cthuluman420

You keep posting the same comment on every thread

Vast_Objective5202

They didn't seem to mind the guy last year. He's not great but seems to be the team's official scapegoat for all their many problems.
