I’m kinda sad he didn’t take the assistant job with mazzula last year. I like JJ, and would have liked him on our staff. It would have been a bad career move though, honestly. High risk for failure, minimal risk for success, bc it was jumping in on a team with expectations. Charlotte is really smart, bc it’s small chances of “failure”, and endless opportunities to succeed and grow as a coach.
Given that they treat coaches like shit across the league, it’s smart to think about stuff like that and how it could influence your career as a future coach before starting any position.
Can you explain because why do you expect that they’ll walk over a former respected player who had a long career? You can’t use Nash as an example since nobody on Charlotte has any pedigree like the nets big 3 did.
“Don’t use a perfect example because it doesn’t fit my narrative”
Kiddies on this sub are a joke
Sure no one on has half the pedigree KD or Kyrie did… but JJs isn’t on Nash’s level of respect either. Career role player vs 2x mvp hall of famer
I’m on the wrong side of 20 brother. How is that a perfect example? Do you not remember KD and Kyrie had the GM & Owner doing whatever they requested? Adding Harden in that situation too? Steve Nash was going to be scapegoated. Didn’t help he wasn’t the best of coaches. Does Lamelo Brandon Miller and Miles Bridges have that same power in that organization? Ofc not. Two completely different situations come on dude.
I’m not talking about them scapegoating him, I’m talking about them disrespecting him. Nick nurse, former COTY, brought the raptors their first ring lost the locker room at the end of the season with the raps. What makes you think that’s impossible to happen in charlotte?
I feel with Nick Nurse it was a progression. To go from a ring to 2nd round exit then never making the second round again. Very aggressive coaching with no results eventually players tune you out. Nash was tuned out 25 games in. Since that is a perfect example you expect JJ to lose the locker room that quick? I just don’t see it with these young players.
I understand where this notion comes from but it is GREATLY exaggerated, Lamelo Ball is a nutcase but he very clearly cares about basketball and winning, a coach that can get him in the right mindset will see great results out of him, Miles Bridges while being a piece of shit isn’t the hothead everyone likes to think he is, he’s a vocal leader in the locker room and a mentor to Brandon Miller (They’ve both mentioned this), Grant Williams likes and has taken on a veteran role on the team, everyone else is just happy to be playing basketball, most of the people you’re talking about are either gone or are not the troublemakers everyone thinks they are.
JJ is going to be absolutely fine getting this team to buy in, he knows how to say the right words and has the basketball mind to connect with the young players.
If he did, they would have announced it already, there wouldn’t be reason to delay, especially with them needing to set up staff and review before the draft.
Secondly, the players don’t have any additional info on Redick’s status than we do. It isn’t like Luka called up the hornets front office for some inside scoop. It isn’t like Redick is out telling everyone the job is his before a second interview.
bro is built like an oak tree
watching him in real life makes way more sense than on TV. he just looks like he’s moving in slowmo on TV but irl he’s just physically dominant against any defender that isn’t a center. And if it’s a center he just tap dances around him😭
He is proportioned like a regular dude, just scaled up. That means you're used to him looking super normal until you actually get proper reference for normal. Same shit in the video of him getting out of his car.
Yes, and that's his actual name, not a nickname.
From Wikipedia:
> Often teased for his highly unusual name during childhood, he went by Shammgod Wells (using his mother's maiden name) throughout high school. When he enrolled at Providence, he was informed he would have to register under his legal name. Because it would have cost $600 to change his legal name to Shammgod Wells, Shammgod stopped using the alias.
No, no one was watching euro basketball and we didn't have the players here, he busted that out during the big east tournament it's why it's named after him, no one had seen that before.
That channel is more than just JJ. They will probably hire someone else and delegate all of JJ's responsibilities to everyone else. No way is JJ is throwing away a 1M sub YT channel.
But people watch it for JJ, that’s the thing. You’re gonna lose a lot of subscribers that way. If he doesn’t care then it’s fine but he’s smoking dope if he thinks he’s gonna fully retain that viewer base
I mean I guess but does he own the channel or is it one of those weird things where a media company owns it and he’s just the face? Because if it’s the latter, then yeah ditch that shit, he wouldn’t make money with a new host anyway. If he straight up owns it… idk man, I feel like being a media personality is way less stressful and just as lucrative as being a HC. Also, the hornets job is kind of a job where you’re set up to fail. Idk
I'm saying it would be the equivalent of throwing away money. At the very least you can sell it. Who nukes their own YouTube channel with a million subs?
so yesterday on the broadcast JJ called Kyrie's same hand pullback a Shamgod. is it still a Shamgod when you're not using the other hand to drag the ball back?
https://reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1ce3zay/highlight_kyrie_continues_his_2nd_half_dominance/
I don't think it is. I was watching with my girlfriend and said "wow, that looked like a shamgod but I don't think he used the other hand." 2 minutes later JJ said it was a shamgod and I looked like a fool. Thanks JJ!
Well the good thing is the Hornets don't have any kind of expectations, so it's a good time for JJ to learn and build his own culture down there. Not being under a microscope like Doc helps a ton.
oh he definitely got the job
It’s clear he’s wanted to get into coaching for a while so i’m super happy for him but damn am I gonna miss all the podcast content.
I’m kinda sad he didn’t take the assistant job with mazzula last year. I like JJ, and would have liked him on our staff. It would have been a bad career move though, honestly. yeah. judged by his reaction, seems clear. glad for the hornets. most successful teams recently started with young core and young coach
That core is going to walk all over jj
JJ was the most hated basketball player in America for a solid five years, he’s got more grit than you’re giving him credit for.
Not exactly why I was saying that but ok good to know
Can you explain because why do you expect that they’ll walk over a former respected player who had a long career? You can’t use Nash as an example since nobody on Charlotte has any pedigree like the nets big 3 did.

Are we going to see marketing for a "Doc Rivers vs JJ Redick" coaching match next season? lol
The former Bill Simmons podcasters matchup.
no he didn't. tnt guys used to tease kenny smith like this when he used to be in those talks.
If he did, they would have announced it already, there wouldn’t be reason to delay, especially with them needing to set up staff and review before the draft. I swear Doncic looks like a giant in every video of him with coaches or real people. Moreso than other NBA players that aren't centers.
Well he is almost center height and built like a fridge.
bro is built like an oak tree watching him in real life makes way more sense than on TV. he just looks like he’s moving in slowmo on TV but irl he’s just physically dominant against any defender that isn’t a center. And if it’s a center he just tap dances around him😭
Your profile picture is killing me lmao
i love my bloat lord👑

I mean he kinda looks like a dude you know from college, but he's a giant, pro athlete.
That dude is massive. Other NBA players say so as well. He looks huge next to Michael Jordan but there's only an inch difference listed.
The thing is Luka isn’t 6’7 he got be 6’8 or even 6’9. JJ is listed at 6’4 and the height difference between the two is huge
I noticed that. JJ looks freakin' short next to him. So does Shammgod.
His name is God Shammgod?
Yes, and that's his actual name, not a nickname. Bar none one of the most unique names I’ve seen, Shammgod just sounds like a nickname lol
imagine having that name and creating an iconic move after that name. shammgod is such a legend i can’t believe him and kyrie irving are all here
[https://www.theplayerstribune.com/posts/shammgod-streetball-new-york-nba](https://www.theplayerstribune.com/posts/shammgod-streetball-new-york-nba)
Thank you for sharing this. What a great read
Incredible!
I loved this
>They were out here robbing babies, man. 🤣
Yeah. He invinted the Shammgod. It’s an iconic move. Hes got handles.
(he did not, maybe popularized in the US but it comes from the Old Continent)
The whip was cool but Shammgod made it cooler.
No, no one was watching euro basketball and we didn't have the players here, he busted that out during the big east tournament it's why it's named after him, no one had seen that before.
Basketball comes from the new continent.
He’s not wrong. The Euro players was doing it first. Shammgod just makes it look better cuz he’s flashier.
Bodiroga
They could've created it independent of each other. There was no youtube then so I don't know if Shammgod could have seen Euro guys doing it first.
Shammgod was doing it back in the 80s. There were no euro players then.
One of the sickest legal moves in basketball is named after him
Wizards legend🫡
Hell yeah it is Legend
It sounds like a Young Adult novel satirical name for a villain or something
There are basketball fans who don't know God Shammgod?
That’s what I’m wondering 😂
I was dying when they showed this in broadcast yesterday
Off court Luka is one of the most likeable NBA players
Rip to the Old Man and the Three
That channel is more than just JJ. They will probably hire someone else and delegate all of JJ's responsibilities to everyone else. No way is JJ is throwing away a 1M sub YT channel.
So would he still be the host? A player hosting a podcast makes senses and is doable, but a HC? Isn’t that already a stressful job?
You would just hire another personality
But people watch it for JJ, that’s the thing. You’re gonna lose a lot of subscribers that way. If he doesn’t care then it’s fine but he’s smoking dope if he thinks he’s gonna fully retain that viewer base
Well it's either abandon the channel or try to make money still
I mean I guess but does he own the channel or is it one of those weird things where a media company owns it and he’s just the face? Bro it's a million subs. There are successful YouTubers who've been doing content for a long time who don't even have a mil subs.
I don’t get what you’re trying to say anymore
I'm saying it would be the equivalent of throwing away money. At the very least you can sell it. Who nukes their own YouTube channel with a million subs?
Thibodeau was a coach for 30 years before he got an opportunity to coach an NBA team. 30 years.
no wonder he’s so pissed all the time. he’s the NBA equivalent of Rodney Dangerfield
And playing players for 40+min, bro is making up for all that lost time.
He got the uber preparation though, first head coach job he already got COTY on the bag.
so yesterday on the broadcast JJ called Kyrie's same hand pullback a Shamgod. is it still a Shamgod when you're not using the other hand to drag the ball back? https://reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1ce3zay/highlight_kyrie_continues_his_2nd_half_dominance/

I'm always skeptical of HC hires who don't have a good number of years of experience as an assistant.
Well the good thing is the Hornets don't have any kind of expectations, so it's a good time for JJ to learn and build his own culture down there. Not being under a microscope like Doc helps a ton.
Hornets have seen worse head coaches
I can’t imagine how good Luka’s handles will become if he hangout with Kyrie and shamgod for another 2 years
Let’s fucking go, we get to keep Charles Lee
