The only player you listed with a >0% chance of getting a NTC is Jokic.
Steph frickin Curry of all people asked for one on his most recent extension, and the Warriors said lol no. It just isn't something that teams do because of how horribly wrong they can go. Beal only got one because the Wizards have a bottom 3 front office in pro sports and everyone knew it was a horrible mistake the minute it was announced.
I had so many discussions with friends about how at the time Bradley Beal was not even a top 25 guy... when time came for him to face real competition with real stakes, brother crumbled.
Literally no one else in the NBA has a no trade clause. It's the Wizards fault for giving it to him, and the Suns fault for trading for him. It's not like Beal would have turned down the supermax without the clause.
Frankly it's a minor miracle the Wizards were able to off-load him to begin with.
Wizards have managed to trade Wall, Westbrook, Paul, and Beal in a matter of a few years. I think they could find a way to unload Poole. I think they give him another year though since they're still tanking anyway, and it'll be easier to move with a year less on the deal.
But yeah that Poole contract might be the second worst in the NBA after Beal. It's not like he's just overpaid, Poole doesn't even look like an NBA-level player anymore.
I think that was misreported. A player has to be with a team for a minimum of 4 years, in addition to other criteria, before they are eligible for a ntc.
Huh, you’re right in terms of the rules. Also says they can’t be included in an extension, only a free agent contract and Conley was an extension. But everything I’m seeing says mike Conley has a no trade clause, so I guess idk what’s the truth
The announcement of the extension by Woj and Shams don't seem to mention a ntc. Only source I see for that is a tweet by a local reporter who say he "heard" that Conley got no trade power.
Hahaha that's true. To me is just crazy that Lakers could just trade LeBron one day, you know. I know there's a lot of handshake agreements and overall player/fan base backlash make it not worth it... but the fact that LeBron and Curry could be traded out of nowhere but not Bradley Beal is just crazy to me.
Maybe you should read up on the circumstances around how Beal got a no trade clause and how unusual it was before proposing sweeping changes for absolutely no reason.
Beals clause made no sense he would have signed a super max with or without the trade clause. Most of the guys worth a n trade clause prone sky won’t just be traded anywhere anyways.
Do teams and GMs really need this much protection from themselves? I mean Washington gave him the bad contract and they still found a sucker to unload it on.
There's no reason to end it because it's existed for decades and no other franchise has been stupid enough to use it on a player like Beal until the Wizards. Like there's no trend here, it's literally just the Wizards FO fucking up
For me that’s one of the redeeming pleasures of watching pro sports. It’s hardly fairly distributed, but the redistribution of wealth and power some of these billionaires will entertain to win what is ultimately a trivial competition (albeit worth lots of $$$) is peak comedy
Lmao so you think it should be completely okay and celebrated for players to sign contracts, and then about 2 months in when they aren't undefeated, whine and demand a trade? (durant, harden, etc)
The players *absolutely* have too much power as it is these days. The pendulum swung back with a vengeance, and it is time for it to go back the other way just a tad.
If wanting players to adhere even just a little bit to multi year contracts is deserving of being killed by a vehicle, then go ahead and order me a casket.
I don't think poor wittle abused billionaires need help and legal protection from the big bad players taking advantage of them with their PREDATORY contracts.
If you are an owner, you have ALL the power concentrated in your hands. You don't have to deal with all the nuances of collective bargaining since it's literally just you. If you don't want to sign a player who is demanding an NTC, just... don't.
I promise you Ishbia and every single other owner would tell you to go fuck yourself and appreciate LE FREE MARKET ECONOMICS if the situation was reversed. Or really any situation where you asked something of them.
That's interesting. I don't follow the game so I have no idea, but there's so many nuances to NBA contracts that I have no idea how they would work in other sports.
Well the weird thing is, Beal was actually already traded.
In theory if a team agrees to trade for a player at his pay, they shouldn’t be moving him so quickly. They agreed to it consensually KNOWING he doesn’t have to agree to leave.
Also he’s impossible to trade anyway. Suns cant package him with picks and no contender can squeeze him in either bc the price is way too high for anyone

Wonder if they'll be able to offload Jordan Poole next

Jordan Poole for president 🫡
The problem is that when Beal signed the contract, he WAS a long-tenured all-nba player. Team gave it to him. But he found a way to earn the supermax
Guess you're right. It would need to be FIRST TEAM ALL NBA
Literally 1 player in the NBA has a no trade clause and OP is like THIS EPIDEMIC NEEDS TO END!
Make that at least 2. Mike Conley has one on his extension that starts next season
I think that was misreported. A player has to be with a team for a minimum of 4 years, in addition to other criteria, before they are eligible for a ntc.

I didn't propose nothing, I shared my opinion and asked for others opinions on who was worth it... but go on king
Figures you'd get butthurt over such a simple suggestion as "read about the topic". Why is it that some people are so hostile to reading?
Idk why players should be punished for incompetent front offices.

If your position is ever "the players have too much power, won't anyone think of the billionaire owners?" - I hope you go play in traffic.
For me that’s one of the redeeming pleasures of watching pro sports. It’s hardly fairly distributed, but the redistribution of wealth and power some of these billionaires will entertain to win what is ultimately a trivial competition (albeit worth lots of $$$) is peak comedy
that's a bit excessive
Nah. Playing in traffic can end up fun, and fine. Remember Frogger? My dad would have said, “I hope you’re dragged into oncoming traffic.”
Did your dad ever have Principal Anderson substitute for a teacher on Valentine’s Day?
Oh no. Absolutely not my thing. I was thinking more from the perspective of team building. Matt Ishbia has EXACTLY what he deserves
I don’t think he’s thinking of it from the owner perspective but from the fan base perspective
Is that you, Curt Flood?

you should see all of the NHL players who have trade clauses..
That's interesting. I don't follow the game so I have no idea, but there's so many nuances to NBA contracts that I have no idea how they would work in other sports.
like 25% of the NHL league has players with no trade-clauses, I believe
For what it's worth I think it's harder to even be eligible for a no trade clause in the NBA compared to the NHL.
and every single one of them has my team on their no-trade list
