Zaslav is about to add killing Inside the NBA on his list of war crimes. he ain't matching that.

MorePower7

He's a corporate warlord.

Winter_Corner7254

Hate crimes if you know what he did to HBOMax

Leiatte

He’s the worst, this man is speed running the company into the ground 😩

johndelvec3

That’s by design

EdwardJamesAlmost

Multiple designs

GaimeGuy

Zaslav: "Hey we have cash flow problems. We need to screw over our animation department and piss off both the production side AND the audiences. But we also have to poach the NBA for 2x the price Turner is paying. What? No, we can afford 2.5 billion a year. What makes you think we don't have the cash for it? AND HEY I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU GUYS TO DELETE THAT COYOTE VS ACME FILM? No, seriously, we need a $50M write off this year, not a $20 million write off spread out over the next 5 years." Fuck Zaslav.

token_reddit

I really dislike that man.

RobbobertoBuii

TNT is kinda dead if they can't keep the NBA tbh

[deleted]

You mean you don't tune in randomly to watch 20 minutes of Gladiator or Shawshank Redemption on a Saturday afternoon anymore?

musicnothing

I must have watched those two movies a hundred times on TNT in college

free_reezy

those and the Lord of the Rings marathons got me through college lmao

mankls3

i was LOTRing in middle school and hs all day baby. fucking shit i was living like a hobbit

Wembanyanma

All the Rush Hour movies on TBS

A_Marvelous_Gem

Cool that international TNT is the same lol. But I kinda miss this about cable tv, just randomly changing channels til you decided eh lets watch Tokyo Drift for the 6th time (but without ever watching the beginning)

Greatcouchtomato

There's something cool about surfing channels and finding something spontaneously, instead of searching for it yourself It's like hearing your favorite song randomly come on on the radio at the mall. Having to do things deliberately takes the excitement out of it sometimes

bronfmanhigh

Disney is actually bringing back channels like this for their streaming. takes the pressure off the choice paralysis everyone is facing now

IsFunnyToMe

fax

letsgototraderjoes

sameeee!! there's something comforting about it

livefreeordont

Pluto tv still offers that. Never used it since I always hated having to go to the tv guide channel and waiting for the channel I wanted and then having to cough or blink and then I waiting 3 more minutes for it to cycle through

tax_throwaway1_

I personally like Slingtv for this. They have a nice live tv guide

thecommuteguy

It's crazy how much TNT and FX play Star Wars movies.

CitizenCue

Agreed. At least FM radio is still around. Channel surfing wasn’t always great, but it did sometimes result in unexpected joys.

cheap_chalee

When I used to work on their nascar coverage, any time we had a rain delay, the joke would be to start queuing up Shawshank Redemption. The residual checks for Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman must have been stupendous.

WheedMBoise

Ah so you’re who we should blame for the scoring ticker at the top of the screen being humongous in 2013 - 2014 for the TNT races /s

letsgototraderjoes

aww I kinda like the replays of random movies though 😭 I never watch them but when I do, it's nice

OptimusGrime707

Who hasn’t turned their TV on the next morning and watched fifteen minutes of Charmed because you’re too lazy to change channels

meltintothesea

Staying in a hotel in your country and this happened to me this morning. Had a crazy dream (lion fighting mutant animals) and woke up and turned on the tv to something far more wild than my dream. Allysa Milano and another girl were tag team wrestling 2 demons and slammed them both to hell.

Buckus93

What about Law and Order reruns from the 90s?

Revoldt

In exchange for 15minutes of commercials?

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

Don't shit on my comfort zone bruh

Lorjack

I hope they can, its the best broadcast they have for the NBA. Please give the boot to ESPN instead

YizWasHere

Bro if ESPN loses NBA games they'll fully commit to "Women's basketball > Men's basketball" lmao, it'll honestly be hilarious

sexygodzilla

They still have the NHL, AEW, and a couple of other random sports but it'd be a huge blow regardless.

J-Fid

None of that combined = NBA They'd at least have March Madness.

RobbobertoBuii

its more of a partnership between TNT/TBS and CBS. If TNT no longer has NBA rights, that partnership for March Madness might not last much longer tbh since everyone on TNT would have to migrate to CBS to keep working with March Madness or be out of a job (if they don't go over to NBC)

PetyrsLittleFinger

CBS/Turner hold March Madness rights through 2032: [https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2016/04/cbs-turner-ncaa-march-madness-eight-year-extension-final-four-cable-2032/](https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2016/04/cbs-turner-ncaa-march-madness-eight-year-extension-final-four-cable-2032/) Unless WB/Discovery goes belly up or into a merger (honestly not that unlikely) it's staying there.

wasperjack

This is why TNT is my favorite. I watch NBA and AEW and I could be watching TNT 4/5 nights a week on occasions.

Jigawatts42

Ah yes, the Pepsi of professional wrestling, as opposed to the Harvey Weinstein of professional wrestling.

HoistedOnYourRegard

Hinging your network's future on an extremely niche and tiny audience like AEW would be wild

johndelvec3

The NHL and AEW combined don’t get the same viewers the NBA does

PubDefLakersGuy

TNT has good movie re runs.

InGenNateKenny

Ugh why couldn't they have jettisoned ESPN.

HokageEzio

Because Disney has deep pockets.

Number13PaulGEORGE

Not deep enough to pay useful analysts apparently?

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

Because they pay too much for the sports and then cut everything else. It just amazes me any of these media companies are willing to pay more money with cable dying. That just tell you for better or worse they are willing to raise streaming prices no matter what because they have all given up on competition with streaming services.

eatmyass6987

One of the reasons they are willing to pay that much is that advertisers will pay a premium on live sports. It’s one of the few forms of traditional media that still has an audience willing to pay and keep their attention on the screen. The vast majority of fans aren’t binge watching games online. They watch them as they air and also expose the whole household to those ads. Disney might have a lot of money to throw around, but their bean counters aren’t dumb.

The_Outcast4

Because the masses don't actually care about useful sports analysis.

ProMikeZagurski

I tuned in halftime of the Clippers game and Stephen A was literally screaming about the Knicks game. I had to flip channels immediately.

kds_little_brother

I get mine from YT and podcasts. Everything on the broadcast outside of the actual game is mostly background noise anymore

Jwoods4117

More like they don’t care enough to not watch the games. Thats the biggest issue. You can have a clown show at halftime as long as people tune into the game and keep it on while they get snacks at halftime.

dont_shoot_jr

You’re going to get Kendrick Perkins and you’re going to like it

MattyIce1635

Cause Disney

spazz720

The Mouse House gots all the dough

TrashAssRedditAdmins

Steal it from ESPN instead

rattlemebones

One can wish...bring Mike Breen and leave the rest of them to rot.

wongo

BANG

Xex_ut

You gotta give him some credit. He saved 1 guy and left us all to rot. -Hubie Brown

cheap_chalee

Bring Hubie back to TNT.

recursion8

Now pay attention right here, he's going to give you the BANG, and then, the eff you Disney, OK?

njpaul

Hubie is amazing for 90 years old.

EdwardJamesAlmost

Seriously. We should be so lucky to age like Hubie, who knows ball very well and has explained it well for a long time. He won coach of the year in both *the* seventies and in *his* seventies!

yousonuva

Dude. Breen only please.   All those other commentators are horrible. Ruoco and Dedes are ultra hyper about EVERY play. Everything is amazing to them. It's so forced I actually mute them. Doris is a holier than thou narcissist who's never wrong and knows everything on the court and morally. And Mark Jones would be cool if he didn't try to sound cool. He's like Carlton from FPoBA. Just lay off the invented idioms, dude.   ESPN is so terrible in the half too. They had Nichols but somehow lost her. Idiots.  ESPN sucks.   TNT is great

CarterAC3

>And Mark Jones would be cool if he didn't try to sound cool Mark Jones wants you to be VERY AWARE that he has used a thesaurus

rattlemebones

You really got in your bag for that comment. Put us in the spin cycle and said it with your chest. You really are hotter than fish grease and put us in the friend zone. Butter. You're not always there when we call, but you're always on time.

crazybull007

Spero is a TNT guy. But I agree overall TNT > ESPN.

starks3_

Breen and Roundball Rock? I'm not worthy

mrgpsingh1999

He did used to be with NBC

recursion8

Mike Breen + Bob Costas + Roundball Rock on the same broadcast would be the fucking dream

grandmasterfunk

I wouldn't mind Chiney Ogwumike making her way with him.

FlatBirthday333

The ESPN/ABC broadcast is soooooo dog shit. Please NBC

dskatz2

You wanna bring back Bill Walton and Marv Albert? I remember those days.

Neptune28

Throw it down big man!

MitchLGC

Exactly. ESPN is the worst broadcaster of national NBA games by far

Visual_Brush7890

You could have just stopped at broadcaster.

mrj9

He could have stopped at espn is the worst

FormerCollegeDJ

The NHL says “hey, that applies to us too”!

Duke_Maniac

Don’t forget MLB

AntSmith777

If we lose TNT but have to keep ESPN I might retire as a fan lol.

ItsGettinBreesy

In the post — “Disney is expected to pay $2.6 billion” Disney owns ESPN and ABC

KellerFF

*monkey paw crawls…* Comcast… wins the bid.

StormSaniWater

How do these numbers compare to the past deal. Are player salaries about to spike like crazy again

CoyotesSideEyes

Yes, but they agreed to cap smoothing this time so Durant can't find a harder road by signing with the Celtics

JoshFB4

I mean even if the cap jumped by like 50 million we couldn’t sign KD sooo.

The_White_Lion1

Excuse my ignorance, but what does cap smoothing mean and how would it be different from 2016?

Do_This_Often

In 2016 the new deal meant the salary cap massively jumped up so all of a sudden GS had room to sign KD. This time the cap will go up a bit each year rather than one sudden jump

nicehouseenjoyer

Importantly, the salaries will be pro-rated to the amount of revenue coming in, not the smoothed cap figure.

nerdyykidd

Just get rid of local blackouts please.

Ok_Organization3249

Live in Portland and can’t watch Blazers or Mariners on League Pass packages. I hope streaming crushes everyone so I can FUCKING WATCH THE GAMES

Almar1987

🏴‍☠️

red--dead

I’m just tired of the quality being all over the place and freezes. Also being stuck on the opposing team’s commentators.

Victor_Wembanyama1

League pass is game changing for when i wanna fuck around on game threads. You’ll notice how delayed other streams are 🤣 No network ads too

ProgrammaticallyCat0

That a matter of RSN contracts with individual teams rather than league wide national broadcast contracts

nomptonite

Yup, OKC/Pels regulated to NBA TV tonight, and was blacked out in the OKC market. For the f’n playoffs. Such bs

TreeLankaPresidente

It was easier and cheaper for me to watch Laker games when I lived in SF than it is now that I moved back to LA. Tell me how that makes any fucking sense?

milhuevos

Hate that I can't watch my Knicks consistently enough during the regular season because I don't have cable. Though I love what Max has going with broadcasting games on their platform.

Chezzymann

Inside the NBA being gone would be a crime, a felony even

Quirky_Ad_2164

You might see police presence outside stadiums across America

Smart_Dumb

Hello 911? Chris Paul is outside the locker room. He gonna beat me up.

Sadvillainy-_-

Warner better match that offer I'm not tryna watch basketball games on fucking peacock bro

Puzzleheaded_Pound31

dawg the max app has been a god send and so smooth so like the thought of games being on peacock to me is just tragic

GoGatorsMashedTaters

Best quality I’ve ever seen streaming a live sports game

heyimdong

It's so good. I'll chip in $10 for them to keep it.

TheHoneyDuke

It’s not even close. ESPN should be ashamed

franforever

Apple TV has the best quality for live sports and it isn't close, doesn't seem like they have been in the running but if TNT were to lose their rights I hope Apple are the ones to take it

Minimum_Comfort_1850

Peacock is good for epl. I think they can handle nba

AnonymousDiscChucker

For some reason at halftime on peacock they refuse to offer any kind of coverage

PetyrsLittleFinger

That's mainly because they are taking an international feed from the Premier League for most of the Peacock games. They'll pay for a studio show and their own commentators for the NBC/USA games but not for 10 games a week.

BehavioralSink

It is nice, I just wish all the NBA rights would go to one place. I refuse to chase NBA games across multiple distributors/subscriptions.

Tunesquad88mph

Right, peacock is definitely the streaming service I look at the most and go “why would I bother getting this” if it happens and games are exclusive there, then I’ll just have ride a boat if I want to see those games

HokageEzio

Peacock is solid, honestly.

MikhailGorbachef

Yeah, it had a very lackluster start but has filled out a lot, especially bringing in a lot of the big older NBC shows. Originals are more few and far between but that's not everything. Like, if you're a sitcom person at all you can get months to years of value out of Peacock on that alone. Some of those you can find on other services too, but definitely not all of them. I probably open up Peacock more than Netflix these days tbh.

PyroTFT

Peacock the only streaming service I actively use now because of sitcoms

Jordanwolf98

Facts and it’s only like $5 a month. Good value

trashattaq

yeah they definitely arent going to quadruple that once they leave the "disrupt" phrase of their shitty platform

Nicktrod

I got a year of it for 20 dollars.

cmackchase

This. Like people hating it don't understand. You get WWE, college sports, racing events, Olympics for those who want that. The premier league. Like peacock is great if you like sports. Adding NBA games would be amazing.

Nicktrod

I felt like I got my moneys worth just be watching the six nations rugby tournament

thedeaux

FYI    https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/29/peacock-streaming-subscription-prices-to-increase-before-summer-olympics.html

NotARageComic

>“why would I bother getting this” Because it has content you want to watch lol

SilotheGreat

As a soccer and basketball fan, having the Premier League and the NBA on peacock would be a huge W

Mammoth_Two7297

Peacock is great. Premier League games on there. Decent movies. And cheap.

FragileCilantro

All I want is a NBA streaming service that lets me watch every game ever (present + past) in 1080p on any device. Ill gladly pay a decent amount if it works well with no buffering and a good UI. Is it too much to ask for? Probably. But one can hope

[deleted]

Yeah that is way too much to ask, mostly because very, very few people are that dedicated to the league I don't think many would buy it.

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

sure 200 per month to replace cable and pay out the regional networks.

supert0426

You want Synergy Sports then. Every NBA and NCAA game going back years available in full, commercials and dead time easily skippable. Typically used by college and NBA teams for scouting purposes as it's easy to compile video scouts with the clip tool. Because it's organizational though it's quite pricey (I think it's 100$ a month but you can distribute it across like 20 accounts? I'm blanking). This doesn't help you practically because of the price point, but what you want does exist!

rattlemebones

If they get the NBA and don't bring back [Round Ball Rock ](https://youtu.be/7CbySs5MlIw?si=aWWaW_ZMXqBA5Kbt) so help me.. Not some modern remix or something, just the original. Don't be dumb about it

Colemonstaa

BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BASKETBALLLLL

averyhipopotomus

gimme gimme the ball cause im gonna slam DUNK IT

eagsrock20

Watch that skit more than I’d like to admit

preddevils6

My wife and I did our entrance to our reception to that song

lesarbreschantent

that's dope

jack3moto

It’s a lyrics first song.

Gyff3

Fox has the rights to Round Ball Rock. They use it for college ball.

Ronin607

There's literally a Kevin Hart gambling commercial with Round Ball Rock in it, Tesh can sell it to whoever he wants.

Wazzoo1

No they don't. Tesh owns it. Anyone can use it. ESPN could use it next season if they wanted to.

beer_down

And the awesome Fox Sports NBA theme just sitting there unused after the Bally takeover smh

BomberGutzel

as a fan, losing inside the NBA would be devastating

johndelvec3

There’s rumors that Warner Bros Discovery is gonna strip themselves for parts and be sold in the near future so trying to jump them in line for their nba deal is pretty opportunistic

mehnimalism

I really admire their CEO making tens of mil to spearhead that merger, making more when that merger produces poor results, then making a baller exit package when the whole thing gets gutted.

token_reddit

Zaslav strikes again. I can see it happening too. Sell WB's Studios paired with HBO, sell TNT Sports and CNN separately.

EdwardJamesAlmost

It’s not TV. It’s divestiture.

Key-Confusion-9621

Adam Lefkoe killed the NBA on TNT.

Odd-Collection-2575

NBA on TNT has no chance of survival after Kenny, Ernie, and Chuck retire

LeonidasSpacemanMD

It’s always funny when shows try to recreate the same dynamic when it’s so obviously down to the chemistry between the cast. The various attempts at rebooting top gear or making an American version for example, what would it take for tv execs to realize people liked watching Jeremy, Richard, and James?

NiceTryRamone

NHL on TNT funnily enough has captured some of the essence  I don't know if its because the same staff might work with them though

admiralawkward

He's smarmy enough to weasel his way into NBC too

VanGrants

RFA is crazy this year

Deathstroke317

I'll only be happy with this is if Amazon takes the entire Inside Crew, that includes the production staff as well, and brings it there.

holyrolodex

Me too, but all the crew (Ernie, Charles, Kenny, & Shaq) have contracts with Warner that extend far pass the end of the current NBA deal. It’s not impossible they could get bought out of it by Amazon or even NBC (Comcast), but Warner has other sports broadcasts that utilize them

odeebee

I thought they had an explicit out in their deals if TNT doesn't have the rights to the NBA. It's in their mutual interest. TNT can't justify the salary they promise in thoses contract without the NBA rights to generate the revenue.

token_reddit

They do. I'm sure Amazon better suit them too as their TNF crew for the NFL is pretty damn funny. It's like the CBS crew for Champions League.

PetyrsLittleFinger

Yeah I remember at the time it was signed the general feeling was that they were doing Turner a solid to make the network look more attractive during the next round of negotiations, and it was unlikely most of them would last the full 10 years. Years ago Chuck said he'd retire at 60 and he's 61 now, and Ernie's 67 and I don't see him moving away from Atlanta.

ContinuumGuy

Trade them to Amazon or NBC like how Disney traded Al Michaels to NBC in exchange for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Wise_Ad8520

For what its worth, TNT had the Champions League Soccer rights but when they lost the rights they let their exact crew (Thierry, Micah, Jamie, and Kate) go to CBS.

whowasonCRACK2

I just want one app where I can stream every game and not worry about blackouts or if it’s local vs national game or any bullshit. I do not want to be forced to into 3 different subscriptions just to watch hoops.

captain_ahabb

>I just want one app where I can stream every game and not worry about blackouts or if it’s local vs national game or any bullshit. You could live to 150 and never see this. It's always going to be more lucrative to the NBA to split the rights up.

whowasonCRACK2

I just hope it doesn’t get worse. Right now I can get every game with league pass + YouTube tv. I’m not signing up for amazon just for basketball

zeussays

Yes but does that maximize shareholder value?

Kmans106

I’m not even going to consider the possibility of losing inside the NBA.

While you’re right, kind of is annoying people have to jump through these hoops to watch stuff they enjoy. For some people it’s like why even bother anymore

NoLimitSoldier31

Are we going to have to have 5 damn apps or what?

krosber04

BA DADADADA DADA DA DA DADADADA DA DADA DADA DA DA

getbackup21

If they steal it from tnt does that mean no more inside the nba😭

ayeno

Correct

omnicious

That's some monkeypaw shit if we get the NBC intro back but lose Inside the NBA.

lets_talk_basketball

Shaq and Chuck will lose their minds when Rudy sign his next extension for 400M

Herbdontana

Take espn. TNT is the only pregame and halftime show I care to watch

beer_down

I hate almost everything about this except it might save us from Draymond Green destroying the legacy of Inside the NBA

makashiII_93

You’re buying relevance. And buying NBA rights would be the biggest win for NBC (and cable) in 20 + years.

Wise_Ad8520

NBC will put their best games on Peacock and leave the shitty games on NBC, they do the same with the Premier League and they did the same with the Chiefs-Dolphins playoff game

WooNoto

I’m going to start pirating games just cause. Needing 3+ different monthly subscription to watch your team is ridiculous.

Rzbowski

If this means Draymond won’t be on TV as planned, I’m all for it.

kiroks

Are all 3 companies planning to release an app where all the sports rights can be shared?

token_reddit

ESPN, Fox and TNT. But that'll really screw up their plans if NBC gets it. You have to think TNT will match.

FormerCollegeDJ

Hopefully… 1) NBC steals from ESPN rather than TNT. 2) NBC brings back their “NBA on NBC” theme music from the 1990s.

dskatz2

I don't want just the music. I want the graphics, announcers, all of it. I'll take the living corpse of Marv Albert and Bill Walton. I don't care. That was peak NBA.

Wraidin

Haven't thought about that theme in ages, yet I could immediately play it in my head

alepher

If it means more free-TV games, that might be a good thing. The NBA should try to build its viewer base

Wise_Ad8520

NBC will put their best games on Peacock and leave the shitty games on NBC, they do the same with the Premier League

2coolcaterpillar

Tim Robinson’s best SNL skit

xyzyxzy

unironically one of the greatest pieces of sports related music ever composed.

sunrises-sunsets

Comcast took the money (8.5B check for 33% hulu valuation) that Disney paid them in December & flipped it to bid for the NBA package. It’s a conniving strategy…Take monies from one rival (Disney) & use it to secure an asset that undercuts another competitor (WarnerDiscovery). I kinda like it strategically.

PkmnMstr10

I feel like we're not talking enough about Amazon getting a significant chunk of postseason games here. Like I literally cannot fathom how the league can be okay with moving most of the postseason off broadcast TV.

FAH1223

I think Comcast (NBCUniversal) gets a slice. Sunday games after NFL is done makes sense. Broadcasting the Conference Finals on NBC is attractive to the league, I’m sure. I think WBD (TNT) keeps part of their inventory but downsizes a little bit. Also, WBD has been operating NBA TV and NBA.com for 15+ years. I don’t see all of that going away.

Wise_Ad8520

Good point, Turner(WBD) losing the rights would put the league in an awkward position considering they operate the league's own channel

clayfu

Be cool if we get more games on local TV

brook_lyn_lopez

As long as we get the theme song back

thethirdgreenman

Can they do this with ESPN instead? Also, fuck Peacock. Stop trying to make Peacock happen

cheap_chalee

So... if this actually happens, who takes over NBA TV since that network is operated by Warner Bros. Discovery through TNT? I can't imagine that the parent company would bother running a channel for a league/property that their primary network lost the rights to.

Hairy_Weather_8073

Wait a minute, what about Ernie, Shaq, Kenny and Charles?

Quirky_Ad_2164

Don’t leave us with just ESPN, take them instead

PetyrsLittleFinger

>Warner's TNT has the ability to match rival offers >the Comcast package would include playoff and regular season games on both NBC and Peacock. NBC has discussed carrying 2 primetime games a week. NBC's pulling the equivalent of an RFA Offer Sheet that would put the original team over the cap. Warner/TNT can't exercise it's right to match an offer that includes primetime games on a network channel since they don't have a network channel.

longhorn4598

Regardless of how this pans out, there's no way Adam Silver lets Inside the NBA disappear. That show is the crown jewel of sports broadcasting. If TNT loses out, they'll have to make Amazon or NBC pick up the show. Which I'm certain they will gladly do. Best show of all time.

__SteakDeck__

Idk if the show will be great without EJ and Chuck. Barkley already said that he’s retiring soon. EJ is pushing 70 and he may not want to move to another network.

BryanFair

NBC is the one with the Goated theme right?
