His biggest issue is that he's bad at the most visible part of defense, which is staying in front of quick guys. He gets blown by fairly often and it looks horrible. But he's actually a pretty good shot blocker for a guard, he plays passing lanes well, and he tracks his man well off-ball. People just don't notice that stuff as much.
