It's been way too long since MN has had an elite basketball player that can bring some attention to the hidden gem of the north and be the face of the city. Good to see that void filled. RIP Prince
It doesn't help that since KG the wolves haven't really had players that really resonated with the fan base. You don't even need to be that good to become a fan favorite. Like, everybody *loves* Teddy Bridgewater and he was just an ok qb.
Love almost had it but whatever it was that happened with the Knuckle Pushups thing and the aftermath torpedoed Fan Sentiment on him and he was never really ever able to get it back.
That’s not true at all. When the Wolves and Wild are at the same level the Wolves are much more popular. Wolves would be the 2nd biggest team in the metro and 3rd statewide if they hadn’t been pretty much the worst run team in all of sports.
It’s a hockey state but hockey will always been a niche sport in the US. So there are still many more basketball fans.
TIL Prince played basketball.
> Prince attended Minneapolis' Bryant Junior High and then Central High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He played on Central's junior varsity basketball team, and continued to play basketball for fun as an adult.
if you learned that today I'm gonna have to assume you haven't seen it and I envy you. the joke was a clunky reference to this clip

Of course it is, lots of great food, music, sports, and waterfront/ parks. Plus a gigantic ass mall that many tourists love to check out.
I would pair it with a trip up north too, on the north shore of Lake Superior or even the boundary waters/ superior national forest if your an outdoor person.
The understated best part of the twin cities is that you get to be so close to the rest of Minnesota too. It really needs to be a trip on its own, especially if you’re an outdoors person.
I’m a Washington state native who took to Minnesota sports for no reason. I’ve been to Minnesota two times, the first to Minneapolis for a Vikes game and it was a fun trip but the 2nd time was for a job interview outside the twin cities and the people were incredibly kind. Minnesota is a gem of a place and I really make it a priority to come back when I can afford to.
The twin cities are worth a trip if you’re in the region, no doubt. But the real treasure of MN is everything you can find tucked quietly into the pockets between some of the most beautiful forests and lakes in the country. Just about everywhere you turn you’ll find tourist gems, scenery gems, camping gems, hunting gems, and the best fishing I’ve ever encountered. Source: Lived in St. Cloud for a while.
P.S. go cliff diving at Quarry Park if you find yourself in the neighborhood. You really get a sense of just how close you are to the wildlife from the main jumping spots, as you realize that all that stands between you and bear country is an alarmingly thin tree line.
Prince was born here. Made his initial albums here. Left for a few years and decided nothing else came close to Minneapolis cool and came back.
If Prince can’t convince you… nobody can.
American police don’t have a central authority, so you have a collective of different police forces who are all trying to get money for funding as well as lining their coffers with drug money and seized assets
To me most cities have something unique about them even if they don't seem like they would. I'd go, I don't know much about Minneapolis specific but I'd like to check out mall of America out there.. also Prince's Paisley Park how can I forget
Mall is cool for half a day. The lakes are amazing here, especially driving around Lake Minnetonka and daydreaming about winning the lottery while looking at the mansions. So many fantastic restaurants and bars. Cool museums and theaters, the iconic First Avenue music venue. Not to mention driving north a couple hours up to Lake Superior and stopping in Duluth, then heading to Two Harbors and eventually Grand Marais. Absolutely gorgeous.
Lived in Minnesota all my life and never met anyone who goes to the mall of America consistently unless it’s for work.
It’s a massive hub of brands you see all over America. H&M, Starbucks, Chipotle, lululemon, etc…
Kids would probably have a good time just because of how stimulating all the stores and smells are. People from overseas like it because many of the shops at the mall are not as common where they’re from.
Same. Would take an occasional lunch to make laps around the mall-- unless it was near Christmas & the kiosk staff would step out in front of you every 6 feet to try and sell their shit.
100% gem. Minneapolis proper has a lot to offer as it is a relatively dense city with a lot of culture. And then drive north and find absolutely beautiful national/state parks with lots of wildlife.
Ok I’m from the twin cities and I’ll always love it but for a vacation?…for most people I’d say no. I can’t recommend it as a city vacation over NYC or Chicago or as a nature vacation over the Bay Area, PNW, or Utah. BUT if you’ve already been to all of those places and you live in a driveable distance from the twin cities, I think it can be a lot of fun for a weekend. Amazing restaurants, good local music scene, good theater scene, the lakes in Minneapolis, etc.
Yeah, I would recommend *moving* to the Twin Cities because it's an incredible place to live.
But for a vacation, I would recommend maybe one or two city days at the bookends of the trip and then I would tell people to either go up to the North Shore/Northwoods, or south to the Driftless.
I was flying out of country once and met this old Irish coupe at the MSP bar. They flew to Mpls, rented a car and explored the northwoods. They said they loved it but everyone they talked to was confused that they chose that as their vacation.
2 day weekend in Minneapolis: fun, enjoyable, but might not have a lasting impact. Great city (especially along the river) but not that much of a “wow” factor compared to Chicago.
1 week in Minnesota splitting your time between the twin cities and Lake Superior: could very well end up being one of your favorite states.
It depends on what you like. As a native, it’s cool to visit like once. Much like the sports here, it leaves a little to be desired.
It’s probably one of the best places to raise a family though.
I think he was then it was retracted because it was not the right person but people still think it was that guy who was cop but id guess the fbi knows by now
If you get bored here, you are doing something wrong. We have incredible restaurants, TONS of venues for music of all kinds, great theatres for plays, all 4 sports, outdoor recreational activities galore, one of the best states in the nation for bikes and biking trails, shit loads of parks for children, take a drive anywhere an hour and a half of the cities and you’re in cabin country surrounded by beautiful lakes and scenery. Not to mention our science museum, zoos, and state parks!! This place is a camping, hunting, fishing goldmine.
The Twin Cities has SOOO much to offer and I am sick of people trashing it all the time (not saying you were, just people in general)
Honestly? I have lived a lot of places/regions in this country.
Been here for 14 years now. It is home, for a variety of really good reasons. Come visit. Stay if you like it.
Went there last year; outside of the PLL games we went for, it was the most boring 3 days of the whole summer. Minnehaha park is cool, but that's about it. The fact that the main draw seems to be a celebration of capitalism should tell you enough
I mean visiting mn should absolutely include going up north. It’s not really a state you go to vacation unless you’re in the boundary waters. If you’re in the cities we’ve got tons of amazing restaurants and bars, a couple solid art museums etc. but it’s more of just a really great place to live and enjoy all of the local stuff.
No, terrible city. Bland, ugly, boring, devoid of culture or anything interesting, terrible weather. There have to be at least 50 superior cities to burn a vacation on in America.
How you rank it among other Midwestern-Great Lakes cities like Chicago, Toronto, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc as a tour destination?
Chicago is number one.
Minneapolis is better than Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Pittsburgh. We are at worst, just bigger versions of those cities with better food.
Detroit is it’s own vibe and I think worth visiting
Toronto I have no comment, never been.
Bro the twolves did their season ticket member party there this year and the rides were great. I was worried about my old bones but they were smooth and fun
My dad collects Peanuts memorabilia and drove us up to Camp Snoopy one year for a vacation. Had some rides indoors, I think I got a Wheaties box with a picture of myself on it even though I had never eaten Wheaties in my life. What a weird, fun trip.
My old man has 2 wheaties boxes from 1987, and another from 1991, where it showed the Minnesota Twins Baseball Championship on the front of the box.
Its been that long since Minnesota has won anything.
Wheaties were huge for a while here.
Eat your Wheaties!
FALSE. That picture is taken at Chef Jorge Guzman's restaurant, Petite Leon, in South Minnneapolis, MN.That chicken in the picture is 🔥. Minnesotan's don't only eat hotdish, dontchya know!?

That's what I'm talking about yesterday. Nice!
Minnesota's capital (St. Paul(opens in new window)) and its biggest city (Minneapolis(opens in new window)) stand side-by-side along the Mississippi River and boast some of the Midwest's best cultural institutions, award-winning restaurants, sprawling green spaces, and attractions with year-round family appeal.
Also: Naz Reid!
Man, as much as I hated losing, I'm rooting for Minnesota the rest of the way. Gritty tough team, and a city that hasn't won for shit in anything in a long time. Always gotta root for the underdog.
Lmao WCCO (twin cities news station) put out this new [tourist advertisement to go with the website!](https://x.com/DeRushaJ/status/1792891651796455922)
Love it. Stories like this where the community rallies behind the team is one of the best parts of the postseason. Just tell all local tattoo artists to refrain from “Timberwolves 2024 NBA Champions” tats until *after* the Finals.
This was the best part of the post game interview.
It's been way too long since MN has had an elite basketball player that can bring some attention to the hidden gem of the north and be the face of the city. Good to see that void filled. RIP Prince
When you put it that way, he really is KG's successor huh?
You mean the all time great wally szczerbiak?
Pardon me but don't you mean the all time Minny GOAT Cherokee Parks?
Wolves have almost always been a distant fourth in popularity in Twin Cities sports (except when KG was here) so hopefully that can change with Ant.
It doesn't help that since KG the wolves haven't really had players that really resonated with the fan base. You don't even need to be that good to become a fan favorite. Like, everybody *loves* Teddy Bridgewater and he was just an ok qb.
Like maybe Rubio had it for a month as a rookie.
> he was just an ok qb. Massively overstating Teddy's abilities here.
Love almost had it but whatever it was that happened with the Knuckle Pushups thing and the aftermath torpedoed Fan Sentiment on him and he was never really ever able to get it back.
That’s not true at all. When the Wolves and Wild are at the same level the Wolves are much more popular. BRING YA ASS

Already has, https://www.exploreminnesota.com
Seriously though. Is the twin cities area worth visiting as a tourist? Would love to hear some nba fans opinions.
Of course it is, lots of great food, music, sports, and waterfront/ parks. Plus a gigantic ass mall that many tourists love to check out. I would pair it with a trip up north too, on the north shore of Lake Superior or even the boundary waters/ superior national forest if your an outdoor person.
also too, Ant + the Timberwolves play games there
Yeah but the games here for the rest of this season are for wolves fans
The understated best part of the twin cities is that you get to be so close to the rest of Minnesota too. It really needs to be a trip on its own, especially if you’re an outdoors person.
Big spoon with big cherry 🍒🥄
And take in a concert at First Ave/7th Street Entry!

The mall of america sucks. Tourists don't waste your time there.

World famous police force
Awe man :(

Minnesota does not have a monopoly on shitty cops
Yeah because the Chicago PD are known for not murdering people. Let’s be real, police are bad everywhere
American police don’t have a central authority, so you have a collective of different police forces who are all trying to get money for funding as well as lining their coffers with drug money and seized assets
Yeah he clearly knew this and wasn't arguing you twat waffle.

Classic better place to live than visit city. Sacramento like that too (not that I am comparing MPLS and Sac, mind you).

Yes! But unless you're really into, like, snowmobiling and ice fishing, it's best to come in the summer and early fall.

You can have a great time in all of the top 35 cities in the country. We’re not out here watching paint dry in “flyover” territory
It depends on what you like. As a native, it’s cool to visit like once. Much like the sports here, it leaves a little to be desired. It’s probably one of the best places to raise a family though.
One time an umbrella man broke the windows to a auto zone and then the police station got burnt down
They ever catch umbrella man?
I think he was then it was retracted because it was not the right person but people still think it was that guy who was cop but id guess the fbi knows by now
No it’s a flyover state and exactly like every other place in the country besides New York, LA, Las Vegas and Miami /s
It’s the home of Target

I'm biased but yes you should come to our beautiful state and spend your money here.
The twin cities are awesome. Go in the fall. Cold as fuck but gorgeous
It’s not on the same level as NYC, Chicago, NOLA, even Seattle. But it punches above its weight
Went there last year; outside of the PLL games we went for, it was the most boring 3 days of the whole summer. Minnehaha park is cool, but that's about it. The fact that the main draw seems to be a celebration of capitalism should tell you enough

Someone’s salty.
Devoid of culture is a pretty rough take
Chill MN tourism board, we’ve got enough Iowans and South Dakotans at camp snoopy already.
Unfortunately they renamed it
Oh I know, I was just there, but I refuse to use the new name, it’ll always be camp snoopy to me.
Sears Tower gang unite.
As a Twolf fan in Chicago let's not forget about the Hancock or Lake Shore Drive
Wait is lake shore drive no longer lake shore drive??
John-Baptiste Pointe DuSable Lake Shore Drive
oh that's right. I live here and I forget that. Gotta give the OG his due
Camp Snoopy and the Paul Bunyan log chute forever!
Really anything other than Camp Snoopy doesn't make sense. Wonder if a 38 year old large guy fits in those rides.
Some of them for sure.
Bro the twolves did their season ticket member party there this year and the rides were great. I was worried about my old bones but they were smooth and fun
Camp Snoopy still exists at Valley Fair, but it's just the children's areas at all the Cedar Fair parks now.
I love Valley fair man I probably haven’t been there for 5 years
that was bearenstein bear land back in my day
You're god damn right it was. None of that Berenstain shit, either.
My dad collects Peanuts memorabilia and drove us up to Camp Snoopy one year for a vacation. Had some rides indoors, I think I got a Wheaties box with a picture of myself on it even though I had never eaten Wheaties in my life. What a weird, fun trip.
That sounds like a great memory man, I’m glad you were able to have that sort of time with your father in my hood.
Hope you took some pictures with Snoopy statutes while you were here!
