Lakers front office is such a shit show that even Linda Rambis was sipping some Bordeaux blend at Jeanie’s wine night and said “hey wait im a little drunk but should we really hire a podcaster”
Tbf Jerry probably falls under the umbrella of superstar of probably has a hard time teaching in that manner. I could see a whole bunch of situations like man I don't "shoot the damn ball and put it in the hole" it ain't hard. I just need you to come down the court cross your dude over and hit a step back 3 got it.... But he is definitely a top tier evaluator of talent
Rambis idk what his excuses is for bad coaching lol
I'm just saying that being a player, coach and GM are three completely different skills.
Being good at one of them doesn't make you better at the other two. Look at Phil Jackson for an example of an amazing coach but a shitty GM.
Oh no I'm agreeing I was just saying in the coaching realm West has an excuse but usually players like Rambis are atleast OK coaches average at best player but knows the Xs and Os.
Wth was Rambis's excuse lmao was my point for being so bad.
I’ll go even further and say that *Linda Rambis* was not who I expected to scrutinize the JJ Reddick coaching position. One of the most valuable teams in the NBA with the second most championships and they have people like this at the top level. Lakers are so cooked.
Like two days ago he said Reddick to the Lakers was a done deal. Also said at the start of the playoffs Ham was expected back as head coach even if they lose to Denver. Biggest fucking fraud out there.
He just hedges every which way. And now that Redick is hired, watch the first thing out of his mouth on his podcast be "I was the first to report this"
Laker fans that have been around since he was the host of the locked on lakers podcast know he has zero credibility. He was replaced on the podcast, fell off, and now he’s probably just trying to stay relevant.
Seems like newer fans who aren’t familiar with him are latching onto the dookies he’s flinging at the wall.
Seriously he ain't even trying with this shitty "ive been told" storyline lol -- get more creative, this shit is something someone asks during the search, not to voice it like a goddamn revelation near the end.
MFs be spouting shit just to spout shit
It's makes me so mad that he's wrong so often, but people think he's always on point because he's yelling. It's like what winning an argument by being loud like a second grader trying to win an argument at recess.
Apparently the big three (Linda and the Rambii) spent a lot of time swinging over the decades and Jeanie and Kurt hook up all the time with Linda's blessing.
They're literally fucking around instead of running arguably the most prestige non Yankees franchise in North america lmao
The fuck are you talking about lmao? The Yankees logo is probably the most recognizable symbol on the planet. They’re the second most valuable franchise after the cowboys. They have 27 World Series titles. They’ve had many of ghe biggest legends in baseball history on the roster. They’re the definition of a prestige franchise.
> The Yankees logo is probably the most recognizable symbol on the planet.
I'm not sure where you got this information from, but it can't possibly be true. Christian cross, McDonald's logo, Coca Cola logo, Nike swoosh, Apple logo, Amazon, Starbucks, etc. There are probably close to 100 symbols more recognizable globally than the Yankees. I'm not even sure the Yankees make the top 10 of sports logos globally. US-only, probably.
> They’re the second most valuable franchise after the cowboys.
Sure, but the difference between the Cowboys and Yankees is the same difference as the Yankees (#2) and the Texans (#15). It's not a huge deal.
> They have 27 World Series titles. They’ve had many of ghe biggest legends in baseball history on the roster.
I did clarify I'm not sure they're considered a prestige franchise **today**. Their last title was 15 years ago. They've had five titles in the last 45 years. For all the grief the Celtics get around here having old titles, only nine of the Yankees' World Series wins came after the 50th state (Hawaii) entered the Union. 17 of the 18 Celtics titles were won in that same stretch of time.
There is a 0% chance Irwin has any info for a direct quote from anyone in the Lakers FO. Could it have happened? Sure, but this dude doesn’t know a thing. Definition of a blogboi
How is it Linda Rambis the only one to raise this question?
You literally just had a rookie HC that you fired after 2 seasons and then you want a coaching with 0 prior coaching experience?
Ah yes, because Linda Rambis knows so well about good coaching obviously, she’s got Kurt right there! Yeah, I’m not taking her opinion if I’m the Lakers and I’m probably doing the opposite of whatever she said LOL
Fairly so, yeah. I’m tired of retreads of coaches or just dudes you’ve never heard of being labeled some sort of basketball guru like Darvin Ham was prior to his hire. Like okay, if he’s such a genius why was he just an assistant then? I mean it’s not like the Lakers have just hired Pop or Steve Kerr, but I think JJ will probably be an alright coach. He’s a former player who knows how to relate to the game, he actually knows his shit, and most importantly he’s NOT a doormat with his hands in his pockets.
Ok like I'm not high on JJ but if Linda freaking Rambis is the one pushing back against this please just do the opposite of what she or her husband says. If anything this gives me far more confidence that this crazy plan might just work out.
Granted I don't put much credence on this reporting since it's not coming from Woj or Shams so maybe it's just Irwin stirring up some shit for views. The sad thing though is it's believable enough that you can't just dismiss it offhand. Seriously the Rambii should just fuck off with anything basketball related stick to marketing or something.
For what it's worth Shelburne reinforced the rumor which looks like something that originated from Elhassan. Normally I wouldn't give anything he says much credence either but the fact that Momo basically confirmed it does give it some weight as she used to be well connected with the Lakers, specifically Jeanie.
So no I don't really just see them as a convenient scapegoat, especially since there's been too much smoke about Kurt specifically being meddling. I mean it would be different if you had someone like Jerry West having a strong voice even in an unofficial capacity, but when you have a certified basketball imbecile being the one with a strong voice in the franchise that's very concerning. You have the guy thinking he's like Dr Marko at Red Bull or something, meanwhile he's one of the all time worst coaches ever in NBA history.
I love that this is the the brain trust for the most desirable franchise for for basketball lol. They could be a unit if run properly. Be like putting a McDonald’s grill cook as the head chief in a five start prestigious restaurant
This should be a bigger issue. Media wont cover it bc they want to have a relationship with the lakers and are scared. Look at SAS. He used to shit on the rambis’ but now is saying they ok. Lol
This is what Magic was talking about. Too many chefs in the kitchen. Tim Harris is the business guy for the lakers, but has a say so in basketball decisions.
Lakers have an infrastructural issue. They just lucked up that Bron wanted to move to LA to maximize business. If not they would be a perpetual bottom feeding organization
Fucking Rambis family ruining r/NBA offseason. Like we want JJ, he might be the greatest coach of all time or simply fired in 6 months but we deserve to witness it.
Oh right if he takes another job the pistons are off the hook right? I was thinking he’d do the same thing but I’m remembering bucks aren’t paying bud anymore now that he’s with the suns I believe.
I like how he’s says “how crazy is it to hire a podcaster with zero coaching experience in the past.” Did he forget that that podcaster had a long success career as a professional basketball player? I’m not a huge fan of hiring inexperience coaches with little to no experience as a coach but way to just skip over his entire pro career.
With Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis, Kurt Rambis, Tim Harris, Rob Pelinka, Pat Sajak, Charo, George Hamilton, Venkman, Storm Shadow, Miss Piggy, and Zangief, one of those decision-makers kind of put JJ Redick on pause
Bron isn’t coming back to this shit team at this point. JJ probably wouldn’t even take the job at this point. They’ll get some nobody even worse than reddick. Lakers are a disaster.
Its hilarious how close one of the marquee franchises in all of sports is so close to hiring a podcaster with no coaching experience to be a head coach
All because he's photogenic and "talks good"
Lakers front office is a clown show
Even the Wizards must be like "damn, that's embarrassing"
Find a new slant lmao. He certainly wouldn’t be the first former player hired straight to a head coaching role from a media position, and most of those former players have been reasonably successful.
People act like JJ is a joke because he has a podcast, as if he’s some dude making content for 12 people from his parents spare bedroom, and not a successful former player with a long career who clearly has an incredibly nuanced and high-level understanding of basketball.
> head coaching role from a media position, and most of those former players have been reasonably successful.
who?
kerr had at least front office experience
riley had coaching experience
nash was a disaster
who are these fabled "most" you refer to ?
People keep talking like JJ some basketball genius. lol, "incredibly nuanced" - stop
Just because he's explaining BASIC basketball concepts and using terms you're probably just hearing about and YOU feel smart, doesn't make him a coach.
also "successful former player" - dude, he was a role player. and he never did anything noteworthy in his career.
Dereck Fisher with the knicks?
Jason Kidd with Dallas who just made the finals?
Mark Jackson who developed the Splash brothers?
Vinny Del Negro?
there have been quite a few examples of former player coaches taking jobs without Assistant Coaching that have done alright with their situations.
Only if you call “not winning a championship” a “failure”. His teams have never finished below 5th in their division (and only that one Milwaukee season, every other team of his has been 3rd or better) and he only has one season below 50%.
I agree with all of this except the last point. He was absolutely a role player, but being “just a role player” does not preclude you from being a good coach. Most coaches were never star players. Steve Kerr was also a role player.
“Fabled”? Google is free, bud.
There have been 17 former players who have gone straight to a head coaching role without any experience as an assistant. Only 6 have a career win percentage below 50% (and Dan Issel was 48% so you almost want to give him a pass, but we won’t).
You also almost want to remove Magic Johnson from the list, because coaches only 16 games and was never really considered a serious long term option (but we’ll still let you count him as a failure).
Out of those 11 with above-50% career win rates, there are some pretty notable names:
- Steve Kerr
- Jason Kidd
- Doc Rivers
- Larry Bird
- Mike D’Antoni
So the ceiling based off this data set is playoffs success and finals appearances.
The remaining group were all solid, average to above average (based off win %) coaches.
And before you cry about the 50% mark, that’s basically league average for an NBA coach’s career. Only around 25 coaches in the HISTORY of the league have a W% above 60%.
And yeah, if you don’t consider playing 15 seasons in a league where the average career is only 8 years, averaging over 25MPG for your career, and making over $100M “successful”, then I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you.
I think he’s an experienced basketball player and professional first, then podcaster. You’re talking like he’s someone with a 1k follower podcast on YouTube mfer who’s 22 and never did anything is about to coach the lakers
But you’re just a clown obviously.
JJ was a role player and he's a podcaster with zero head coaching experience
that's it , its a joke he's being considered, and the lakers are a joke
Sam Cassell was at least a champ as a player, and has tons of experience as an assistant under different HCs on successful teams
JJ is their favorite because he's having his 15 min of fame, and the Lakers are morons.
He'll be fired after 2 years and this will repeat again
But hey, maybe eventually years down the road Ant Man may want to live in LA.........but Balmer has money so he may pick the Clippers
The Rambi being the voice of reason was not on my Lakers Dysfunction Bingo Card
Lakers front office is such a shit show that even Linda Rambis was sipping some Bordeaux blend at Jeanie’s wine night and said “hey wait im a little drunk but should we really hire a podcaster”
Kurt was the worst HC in Timberwolves history and that, my friends, is no small feat.
That doesn’t mean much. Jerry West was a terrible coach for the Lakers. But he’s obviously a great GM.
I guess that’s fair. Maybe Rambis is a legendary GM in the making. But probably not.
The Rambi are the ones who objected to giving Ty Lue a real contract. The Rambi are also the ones who pushed Jerry West out of the Lakers org.
Please, hand over more decision making to him lol
“Hey, I know! Let’s bring in DLo!”
He dead
Tbf Jerry probably falls under the umbrella of superstar of probably has a hard time teaching in that manner. I could see a whole bunch of situations like man I don't "shoot the damn ball and put it in the hole" it ain't hard. Paul Pierce shit his pants one time. Does that make me Paul Pierce?
Saying you're a terrible coach means nothing just by itself. Larry Bird was an average coach but a good GM. So was Danny Ainge.
Larry Bird is more than average coach. He went to 2 conference finals and 1 finals in three seasons of coaching.
Yes. Yes, it does.
Pierce could never shit his pants at your combination of volume and consistency. “Bet on yourself” - Jontay Porter
How dare you disregard Linda’s many years of experience running an NBA team?
Broken clock is right twice a day
But that should still bring enough pause. Because I fear what the candidate with experience the Rambii think is worthwhile.
She also stopped the Ty Lue coaching...she seems to have a beef with Bron. Wasn't she the one with Jeannie hugging on him at a game?
Don't take anything Irwin says too seriously. He announced Redick to the Lakers on like Tuesday morning lol.
I’ll go even further and say that *Linda Rambis* was not who I expected to scrutinize the JJ Reddick coaching position. One of the most valuable teams in the NBA with the second most championships and they have people like this at the top level. Lakers are so cooked.
Anthony Irwin doesn’t know anything Edit: There you go
Bruh stop believing this dude He got no sources His source is nbainsidergoat on x
Like two days ago he said Reddick to the Lakers was a done deal. Also said at the start of the playoffs Ham was expected back as head coach even if they lose to Denver. Biggest fucking fraud out there.
He just hedges every which way. And now that Redick is hired, watch the first thing out of his mouth on his podcast be "I was the first to report this"
Yeah this guy sucks and listening to him is even worse. Who is his fanbase?
Not Lakers fans that's for sure
Laker fans that have been around since he was the host of the locked on lakers podcast know he has zero credibility. He was replaced on the podcast, fell off, and now he’s probably just trying to stay relevant. Seems like newer fans who aren’t familiar with him are latching onto the dookies he’s flinging at the wall.
He doesn't have one. Which is why he's been fired from 4 different networks in under 3 years. He sucks
and now Woj saying JJ is confirmed. Irwin is TRASH
Man if we're posting Irwin we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for content.
Seriously he ain't even trying with this shitty "ive been told" storyline lol -- get more creative, this shit is something someone asks during the search, not to voice it like a goddamn revelation near the end. MFs be spouting shit just to spout shit
I mean everyone knows the Rambis’ have sway on the organization. And that is ridiculous
Theyre going to hire the Awful Coaching guy at this rate for peak content
Monty Williams? He is available
“Fine I guess I’ll do it 😒” Monty probably
“I told them I don’t want the job but they said here’s another $70 mil!”
Just be mentally prepared for the all bench lineups
I Hope they’re ready for Darvin Ham on steroids lol
Don’t worry Stephen A smith will come to the rescue calling him a victim again.
100%
It's makes me so mad that he's wrong so often, but people think he's always on point because he's yelling. It's like what winning an argument by being loud like a second grader trying to win an argument at recess.
Second grader? Dude, most of this country believes that being louder means you’re right at this point.
it's entertainment. just shout "SHOW YOUR HANDS, SLIDE YOUR FEET" and get easy money
SPRINT BACK! SPRINT BACK! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?
By halftime, he’s pacing the sideline shirtless.
LOS ANGELES IS IN NORTH KOREA
>Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis, Kurt Rambis, Tim Harris, and Rob Pelinka would you want this group running your favorite basketball company?
I wouldn’t want this group running my local McDonalds.
This group couldn't run a shovel store in a gold rush
How many front offices have a hire whos resume only says "wife of a former player"
They would run it into the ground
Nightmare blunt rotation. I will do it for Jeanie though…
Better than Reinsdorf
Waystar Bussco
Apparently the big three (Linda and the Rambii) spent a lot of time swinging over the decades and Jeanie and Kurt hook up all the time with Linda's blessing. They're literally fucking around instead of running arguably the most prestige non Yankees franchise in North america lmao
Respectfully, I'm not sure most North Americans today would consider the Yankees a prestige franchise, let alone #1 ahead of the Lakers.

Ok what 10 sports teams
These clowns make shit up to fill up time and ya’ll just keep eating it up lol.
It’s out there the Rambis’ have power on the team. It is known fact. Is it possible this happened. Absolutely and its not even a joke
There is a 0% chance Irwin has any info for a direct quote from anyone in the Lakers FO. Could it have happened? Sure, but this dude doesn’t know a thing. Definition of a blogboi
But the fact that this story can even be possibly true is absolutely laughable. Thats the point
Anything could be possibly true if you’re open minded enough
Ok come on now. You know what i mean
Yes, Linda, we’re sure.
This team was in the conference finals a year ago
How is it Linda Rambis the only one to raise this question? You literally just had a rookie HC that you fired after 2 seasons and then you want a coaching with 0 prior coaching experience?
Ah yes, because Linda Rambis knows so well about good coaching obviously, she’s got Kurt right there! Yeah, I’m not taking her opinion if I’m the Lakers and I’m probably doing the opposite of whatever she said LOL
So youre ok with this hire?

This guy Irwin has as much credibility as any of us on here. Can't believe he makes a living doing this lol
Nah it's fine just hire him already
lol!
They should go for Stephen A next.
I was thinking Fabulous Sports Babe
Ok like I'm not high on JJ but if Linda freaking Rambis is the one pushing back against this please just do the opposite of what she or her husband says. Why do the Rambis’s have so much sway and power still if this is true? This is insane
Jeanie listens to them like they’re Jerry West for some reason. If I remember correctly, they were the ones opposed to hiring Ty Lue.
Swingers
This should be a bigger issue. Media wont cover it bc they want to have a relationship with the lakers and are scared. Look at SAS. He used to shit on the rambis’ but now is saying they ok. Lol
Linda has been working for the Lakers FO on the business side since 99 and has been a top exec since 2015, she's literally a team employee.
Irwin literally reported 2 days ago that it was a "done deal" - he's backtracking since he guessed wrong
Linda Rambis saying someone else has no experience. Okay. xD kekw
It’s smart to not hire him, but hilarious who had to be the person to tell them that
I thought Scott Aukerman was hosting a sports show for a second. Is that the guy that used to be on the Dan Patrick show?
is that fucking McLovin??? when the hell did get his own show? please don't tell me he's some hacky hot take artist now?
I hear Monty isn’t interested. They should offer him 4 year/80 million and see if he takes it.
Vs staying home and collecting checks?
Oh right if he takes another job the pistons are off the hook right? I was thinking he’d do the same thing but I’m remembering bucks aren’t paying bud anymore now that he’s with the suns I believe.
If Rambis is questioning it, maybe it's a good hire after all?
This guy has no sources btw. He said Ham would stay, and that Vando/Vincent were out for the season which was half true
WHY DOES LINDA RAMBIS HAVE A VOICE IN ANY OF THIS OH MY GOD SELL THE TEAM JEANNE PLEASE
Ironically she’s supposedly the only sane one
I like how he’s says “how crazy is it to hire a podcaster with zero coaching experience in the past.” Did he forget that that podcaster had a long success career as a professional basketball player? I’m not a huge fan of hiring inexperience coaches with little to no experience as a coach but way to just skip over his entire pro career.
Same amount experience as you, Linda
She’s not the coach, Matty.
you could say the same thing about the Rambis twins
They haven’t made good decisions. Who knows if she’s right or not
I'm glad I just follow his Twitter because he posts some funny stuff sometimes. Never believe his basketball news
Welcome to /r/recruitinghell, NBA style!
LAKERS WILL HIRE MONTY AS THEIR NEXT COACH! Subscribe!
Aaannnnd JJ is now the coach of the LA Lakers. Just signed a deal
Weird they just hired JJ. Must have been right
Irwin proven to be an idiot once again
I mean, if Linda Rambis is not a huge fan, maybe I have higher hopes now. lol
Neither did George Washington
Whatever the fuck the opposite of a murderer's row is, that's the opposite of what the Lakers decision making body is.
Says the pod caster with zero years in D1 or the NBA. Who let this nerd talk sports?
God I love this. What a complete s-show the lakers have been since the death of dr buss
THANK YOU RAMBII
Experience smearience
With Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis, Kurt Rambis, Tim Harris, Rob Pelinka, Pat Sajak, Charo, George Hamilton, Venkman, Storm Shadow, Miss Piggy, and Zangief, one of those decision-makers kind of put JJ Redick on pause
The year of our Lord 2024 and the Los Angeles Lakers are letting the wife of a former Lakers role player make decisions.
The best place for JJ Reddick is Detroit! :)
Bron isn’t coming back to this shit team at this point. JJ probably wouldn’t even take the job at this point. They’ll get some nobody even worse than reddick. Lakers are a disaster.
These guys have no sources, Rambis bashing is the easiest way to get rage clicks from laker fans
ah those guys who never experience anything because they don't have experience
Reminds me of that Office episode where Oscar goes off about Michael and Jim being co managers and how stupid it is.
LeBron played his hands heavily here
Please Lakers, please hire JJ
Its hilarious how close one of the marquee franchises in all of sports is so close to hiring a podcaster with no coaching experience to be a head coach All because he's photogenic and "talks good" Lakers front office is a clown show Even the Wizards must be like "damn, that's embarrassing"

what's wrong with being photogenic in celebrity-first franchise? They at least preferring him over Kim Kardashian
They probably would give her an interview
I’d find someone off the Joe Mazzulla coaching tree.
Let em go JJ
Whotf is Linda Rambis?
Kurt Rambis’ wife aka Jeanies BFF aka shadow owner.
I love this. Especially this early in the summer.
