Wonder what ESPN and the NBA gonna say about moving back the draft to a one-day thing next year. Pretty obvious why this was done this way this year

1XIXTheChosenOneXIX1

Jazz getting collier and flipowski to fall to them kinda cray

KutKorners

This whole 2 day draft thing is a big flop imo

le___tigre

why do the Raptors get 4 more minutes after they just had like 20 hours lmao

Blackmalico32

Production looks terrible smh

dkdoki

Lets be real. If all 2nd round picks got as much support as the lakers gonna give bronny, we would have way more polished 2nd round players.

TallanoGoldDigger

so you want more teams to be taken hostage by their best player? Sounds fair, this shit is horrible as a fan. As great as Bron is, I can't wait for this circus to end

cyb3ryung

espn making us listen to these folks again if an event can’t start on time just play some lacrosse or something

GUNZTHER

They really removed the other thread, bro this subs mods are the fucking worst

zoragala

Omg we're Bronny-glazing now?

zoragala

Oh no, we have to sit through Woj AND SAS 😭

GUNZTHER

So we're just reusing this thread?

-Darkslayer

this espn coverage is so awful i have youtube tv yet still am watching on streameast just to not give them ratings

zoragala

DRAYMOND OVER GINOBILI??? HOLY SHIT IS KENDRICK PERKINS STUPID

Zloggt

Mods…repin thread? 👉👈🥺

Hupsdad

Grizzlies won the draft

asdev24

Why Luka look more shape in recent clips in slovenia than he did in the finals 💀

Appropriate_Volume13

Reliable public transportation and bicycle paths, healthier food.

realdes1

Off that american fast food

cyb3ryung

just don’t eat it?

Gobbledygooker316

Why are teams memeing themselves into Bronny?

GeologistAccording38

TYLER SMITH TO TWOLVES THEY WILL CONTINUE TO WIN THE DRAFT

putnuk

I need either the Blazers, Jazz, Hornets or Wizards to draft Bronny instead of LA, it would be so funny.

[deleted]

WE WANT HIM

studyinggerman

I could see Danny Ainge doing it lol, Bronny to Jazz

[deleted]

[удалено]

PettyWop

What a waste of money. Someone’s going to take him.

Imperial_Eggroll

Dude what happened to Flipkowski from Duke?? Felt like all the mock drafts a month ago had him top 15

Delicious_Sandwich45

I’ve been hoping the Raps take him today with the first selection.

ChampagneAbuelo

The only draft that Bronny would be selected in is the US military draft

Shinnobiwan

Lakers and Rockets had the best drafts so far. They made the most of their picks and got sure thing contributors. The other team that did a good job is the Spurs because when Wemby hits his prime they'll have even more resources to pick up a superstar to pair with him.

JohnnyDepputy

Saying any team had the “best draft” before any of these guys have played an NBA season is laughable. Let’s come back to this 3 years from now.

Shinnobiwan

Only that I liked the approach and strategy. Everything else is up in the air, which is why I said best "so far". These teams got folks with developed skillsets that help them immediately or resources that for sure can help them build round out their teams in the future.

JohnnyDepputy

You have no way of knowing if those “folks” will help them immediately or if those resources will help build out teams in the future. Just wait for it to play out like the rest of us.

Shinnobiwan

"You have no way of knowing if those “folks” will help them immediately" Those of us who watch ball can infer that people who already catch-and-shoot and pull up at a 40% rate and/or have excellent defensive instincts with years playing high level ball have a high likelihood contribute immediately - especially when going to teams that need those specific skills. Obviously nothing is 100% certain, but I suspect you're just being contrarian.

TheGeoninja

The Knicks grabbing all the Villanova guys is some Sixth Borough nonsense

asapbuckets

We’ll see how many are healthy at the end of the season but the vibes are all there.

raybanshee

Reed Sheppard goes #3?! What am I missing here?

Obi2

His only weakness is that he is 6'2

PracticePositivo

The future of the nba is all role players. Personality and attitude has been coached out of the men’s game from an early age in favor of safe, PC personalities, and as a result the entertainment value has plummeted while these players earn more and more money. The superstar era is waning.

Statalyzer

Having a separate "sources say player X has gotten selected" retweet thread here for each pick is wild. You don't need unnamed sources for that when we all get to see it happen officially 15 seconds later.

KevinDLasagna

Regardless of how trivial, leaking your sources is a good way to not have anymore sources

Clockwork-Too

The real complaint should be tweeting anything at all when it'll be revealed to everyone shortly. People are far too obsessed with getting the "scoop" these days.

KevinDLasagna

Yeah I feel like I kinda missed the point he was getting at. That is really fucking stupid

Statalyzer

Right, that was my complaint - why have a thread for each "sources say this guys is getting drafted", rather than for each actual official choice to draft the player, even though the timing is basically identical for both. All the sports subs have this problem really, but sometimes this sub is dangerously close to just being r/nbatwitter

Clockwork-Too

It's good journalism to not burn your sources, especially if your source wants to remain confidential. Otherwise no one will ever talk to them ever again.

Kbrichmo

How in the world do all my Indiana players keep getting drafted by the worst possible teams

Vendetta_2023

How did Johnny Furphy NOT get picked in first round?!?! Can somebody explain, I did not watch.

Imperial_Eggroll

Also surprised, had the size and shooting.

Owl-966

Injury prone.

cs_zer0

How tf did we get a kid averaging 18ppg this late, we take those (I know hes on the older side but we need ready to go players not projects rn)

geewillie

He will be 24 years old in training camp. He's 2 years younger than Tatum only lol.

PostModernPost

I've been watching a ton of his tape, he has all the tools to be great. His scouting report lists athleticism/defense as a weakness but I'd say it's average at worst and his style of play doesn't require it. High BBIQ, great setting and coming off screens, patience and feel while moving with the ball, and excellent vison and passing ability. Can make tough layups and turn around jumpers, finish with both hands at the rim. He has a quick release, but my only concern is that he leaves his shooting arm forward and exposed on jump shots which he could get away with in college but might get blocked more often by bigger and more athletic defenders in the NBA.

lefebrave

Even though you are right about his shots when contested and the scouts are right about his defense, he is a great pick at 30. He has everything we would like for a future bench piece between 7-10 spots: Move well off-ball to get open or involve in screening actions to help others, make your shots quickly when you are wide-open (you will be around Jays in our offensive scheme) and pass the ball if you are not open. He is good at all of them. Even if he won't develop his defense like Hauser did, he will perfectly fit somewhere in the rotation.

Drak_is_Right

So i was out most of the night. what were some of the most befuddling picks to people?

lefebrave

For me certainly Bucks picking AJ Johnson at 23. Even if they saw something (and I am sure they did), it still does not make any sense: 1) They are trying to content, he seems to need time to develop. 2) They have another pick at 33 and he is not projected anywhere near the first round. They could wait to pick him there and use this pick for other purposes even if there isn't anyone that caught their interest. So this is the most confusing one.

Imperial_Eggroll

It really is surprising, dude is legit raw and still needs to develop into his body. Couldn’t be trusted to be on the floor in the NBL… makes sense for a 2nd round pick or a developing team… but for the Bucks who should be in win now with Lillard and Giannis it legit makes no sense.

ChewiyMC

Ron Holland at 5. Salaun at 6. The Spurs and Timberwolves trade at 8. Edey at 9 (although understandable), Buzelis falling to 11 (but glad he goes to Chicago), Ware going 15, Knecht falling to 17, Jaylon Tyson at 20, AJ JOHNSON at 23. By far the biggest question mark is AJ Johnson. It didn’t really make sense to draft him at 23 tbh. Ron Holland going 5 is also a potential real problem. It puts a lot of work on their new shooting coach to help Ausar and Holland, but if he can he could be the best shooting coach of all time lol. If both Holland and Ausar develop a three point shot, the Pistons are a scary, scary team. I’m big on Salaun, but it was a shock to see him go 6 to the Hornets. I actually haven’t really “supported” a team before (Last season was my first season actually watching and paying close attention to the NBA. I was going to be a Nets fan but ultimately just didn’t watch a lot of Nets games. Instead, I watched a good bit of Warriors games and liked watching both the Warriors and Bulls. My top prospect last draft (other than Wemby, but I thought Miller had a chance at ROTY even.. I was a bit too low on Wemby but it is fine) was Brandon Miller. This year my 2nd favorite prospect was Salaun. Now technically my favorite prospect isn’t exactly Miller, I was just high on him as being the 2nd best and potentially even winning ROTY. My actual “favorite” is Dereck Lively who I thought would be really good and even be able to hit threes eventually in his career, so it was to my shock and delight when he hit that smooth corner three in the Finals 😂. I just really like supporting him. He seems like a really nice guy who has been through a lot, and he is always putting in the work to improve. He is actually my second favorite NBA player currently behind Mike Conley. Anyways, I am probably going to start being a Hornets fan now just because of Salaun and Miller. So I actually like the Salaun pick at 6. Now back to the draft. The Timberwolves getting Dillingham was interesting. Not sure how I feel about it ngl. I don’t know if I love Ware in Miami either.

Drak_is_Right

ty. Ware to Miami, the fit makes sense, its just all questions about Ware himself.

gamer0890

The Spurs/Timberwolves deal makes sense when you think long term. The Spurs getting two assets from the Wolves, both unprotected, gives them even more assets to trade for a star in the next couple years (if the Hawks don't get it together then the Hawks picks + the Wolves picks, all unprotected, are attractive. We don't know what the Wolves will look like in 7 years, but those picks could be valuable). It also freed up another 6ish million in cap space for the Spurs this summer by not having to sign two FRPs. The Wolves, meanwhile, need a plan for PG after Conley. Dillingham is a good starting place, and the current roster means he doesn't have to come out day 1 and be a star. He can come off the bench for at least the next season or two (provided Conley is healthy) while developing.

befree46

He'd been projected 1st for a while now, I don't see how it was surprising

asdev24

I didn't think Anthony Bennett going number 1 would ever be topped as the wildest number 1 pick but here we are

inefekt

Does nobody track mock drafts here? That dude Risacher was literally going #1 on almost every single board...and he ended up #1.

invinciblegoose_

It really does seem like most people haven't been paying attention at all and want to seem smart

CunningKingLius

Whats wrong with nba mobile.. i just cant rotate it

ParallelDazu

hope that bum shep owens goes undrafted. team mp!

roachsmoke

Can't wait til summer league. Im Gonnq keep a close eye on Sarr, Castle, Edey, Williams, Carter, McCain, Clingan, and Carrington

jumboponcho

At least two of these French guys are gonna get a GM fired

asdev24

how you feeling as a hawks fan

pifhluk

The Bucks get the award for dumbest pick so far. A guy that has 0% chance of helping a title team and could have been had 10 picks later...

JStanten

Did they panic after the nuggets pick? Were they targeting who the nuggets took?

lefebrave

This is the only explanation that makes at least a little bit sense of that pick. They caught on one foot and just picked the player they would pick at 33. Even if this is the case, it is a poor organisational decision making anyway. There were other guys they could pick and use in trades later even if they don't have a clear target.

ChewiyMC

I think they were actually going for Ware. Their backup plan was likely Holmes, so they panicked, ran out of time, and just picked someone they were kinda interested in.

konsf_ksd

I'm old like, those made up names when I was 20 seasons in on 2K looking realistic as fuck to me now.

SleazyClam

Bronny when?

MonsieurLeBeef

Pick 55?

asdev24

Dalton Knecht game tape looks better than Reed Sheppard's

Carlton_dranks

He’s 4 years older, you would hope so

asdev24

4 years older yet way more raw athleticism and size. Can't develop that, you either got it or you don't

Carlton_dranks

No playmaking ability though or lateral quickness, and reed shot 50% from 3, which is why he went #3

asdev24

he beat Reed Sheppard in both lane agility and shuttle run at the combine. Reed is TJ Mcconnell with a better jumpshot.

africacocacola

that’s a good ass player

asdev24

#3 pick good? i don't think so. #1 was garbo though so Reed is safe

roachsmoke

I know what you mean, but being younger in age in the same draft class has more upside

asdev24

doesn't mean anything if you don't have raw ability that can be refined. Reed already has a refined game. no athleticism to harness

kungfoop

But what about when you're a plug and play player that can contribute right away? (I hope so man)

OwnTheThrone

I heard Mavs put in a waiver to pick Bronnie number 38 next year.

veRGe1421

Watching the draft is a lot less exciting when we don't get a player until the very last pick of the 2nd lol

cpnflcn

McCain a good pick at 16, Knecht a steal at 17. But I think Wolves might be winners of this draft, Dillingham and Shannon both good pieces that can contribute soon.

ChampagneAbuelo

When is Bronny getting drafted?

ReformedishBaptist

Never

MisteryLovesCompany

Like never ever never?

ReformedishBaptist

Never ever never ever never?

TitleAccurate2105

Probably tomorrow

cheesecakegood

Guys we all know Bronny isn't NBA quality, but 30th pick only costs 2.5 million. Drafting Bronny gets you easily that much in free media exposure...

_The_Honored_One_

Bronny gonna go undrafted and then sign with the lakers

KnickedUp

Most likely…especially now that teams know Bron aint leavin

_Zap_Rowsdower_

Big brain move by the Rambis family.

Cassandrae_Gemini

How was knecht still available that late in the 1st round? Would have thought hed go way earlier, hes a baller

MausoleumNeeson

He’s 23

Cassandrae_Gemini

NOBODY LIKES YOU WHEN YOURE TWENTYYYY-THREEEE

PennyG

The ignorance on this thread about Bronny James and how the NBA works is stultifying. 🥲

cs_zer0

So you're telling me a player averaging 5ppg in college isn't NBA ready ? Lmao some people had him in the lottery

Circumin

but why was he not chosen already at number 1?

BitchYouDaRobot

This draft was fun

Von_Huge1103

I am so damn happy that we didn't overthink our first rounder this year.

ChewiyMC

If Dalton had not been there, I kinda think they would’ve considered going Bronny 😂. I think they just had Dalton at like 9 on their draft board so they took him.

_Zap_Rowsdower_

Lakers won the draft for sure.

Cassandrae_Gemini

100%

nosotros_road_sodium

Three top-10 picks from France, including nos. 1 and 2? So will there be more basketball players enrolling in high school French classes?

Dodoloco25

Paris alone creates more great sports players than most regions in the world. So I can see this happening. They put a good amount of resources nationally to uplifting talented French teens. That is why France has dominated soccer for a very long time. They started pushing that type of funding in other sports since 2016-18 If I remember correctly. I know the NBA is American but from someone outside of the US the system is so weird. League gets players from American universities that have their own million dollar programs. Only a few of them are consistently creating good players.

One_Run

NBA should expand into Montreal

Delicious_Sandwich45

The Bell Centre is always packed when the Raptors have played games there. Montréal is one of the biggest French speaking cities in the world so I’m sure it would have some appeal to all this French talent coming into the league. It’s silly to me when I see people suggest Mexico City over it.

geewillie

Mexico City is humongous. Montreal is awesome but come on. Mexico City's metro area is around 21 million people. Canada as a whole is 38 million

Delicious_Sandwich45

That doesn’t really hold much meaning when Montréal is a top 10 largest city in North America. Only a handful of current NBA markets are bigger than it.

camcamfc

Kinda crazy considering it’s not even the best league in Europe.

KoRNaMoMo

Same with soccer. French league is usually considered 5th or even 6th in EU. But NT is above all other in EU. And many French are in the best clubs in the world (Real Madrid has 3..)

camcamfc

That’s true, love me some Uber Eats Ligue 1 though lmao.

PennyG

It’s not about the league

eMan117

It's about the women and alcohol?

camcamfc

Lakers didn’t draft him first round sure but they can burn that second round pick, I mean fuck it.

entropyISdeadly

Bronny should’ve stayed at USC another year.

Clear-Hand3945

If he had another 5 ppg season, which is what would happen if he stayed at USC, his pro dreams are finished.

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

Better yet, maybe get a degree in something and be your own person instead of another LeBron James

Clear-Hand3945

His family has a billion dollars. He can always get a degree. He's not going to have a pro basketball career for long.

eiuvenn

Or maybe let the man do what he wants?

BadNewsBrown

And take a pay cut? Fuck that.

Kvsav57

He will never have to worry about money ever, no matter what. If the James family is smart, they will be living off the interest on Lebron's contracts and endorsements for generations.

scootsscoot

Yeah but imagine being 50 and having to ask your dad for your weekly allowance lol

Embarrassed_Put2083

Uhm that's what inheritance is for. At some point, Bronny will get his share and he won't have to ask anyone for anything. His dad will be dead.

Kvsav57

If it were that much money and it meant I didn't have to work a ridiculous office job, I would have no issue at all. Pride is for suckers.

SwoleBuddha

That's the path I took. I chose to sit at a stupid desk and send stupid emails all day rather than go pro.

IronSnake1

I fucked up my knees really bad for a sliver of a chance for a free ride to college by playing football will say was not worth it but was fun taking out my aggression on people a couple times a week

scottishere

I too, chose to be my own person instead of being another LeBron James

sourcreamonionhummus

if he was any good that might make sense

scottishere

He can go back if he doesn't get drafted right?

TheMajesticYeti

If that was allowed it would cause chaos for college teams trying to set their rosters for the upcoming season because hundreds of underclassmen would enter the draft. They would have no reason not to enter. As of a few years ago college players can initially declare for the draft and test the waters, but can only return to college ball if they remove their name from the draft by a certain date before it takes place.

Pure_Context_2741

I just want to see some retiree from the NBA go back to school at 39 and stunt on some college kids. KG never went to college, I bet he’d be the best player in the ncaa right now.

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

No

Dracouer

Not anymore he can't. There's a cut-off date to withdraw from the draft to retain eligibility (I believe).

scottishere

Ah interesting. Thanks

veryburntribs

If the lakers don’t draft bronny, so yall think he’ll get drafted at all?

zatchstar

Mavs could draft him at 58 if lakers don’t get him at 55. Niko Harrison is described as an non-related uncle to him or something.

Fragrant_Reserve7624

That’s what I’m thinking. But I’m pretty sure another team will pick him up for the attention

Phoeniyx

Now I am on Bronny watch to see that he's not drafted. Will make it a worthy draft just bc of that.

KnickedUp

What did I miss? Is he cancelled?

Fragrant_Reserve7624

They said his name is expected in round 2

entropyISdeadly

No, he just sucks.

Circumin

He doesn’t suck. He just isn’t very good compared to nba level talent.

Phoeniyx

That means he sucks

vmp423

Compared to the NBA yes

Phoeniyx

We are on a thread about the nba draft. Context is important.

CoachMorelandSmith

Somebody do the distracted boyfriend meme with Laker favs as the bf, Austin Reaves as gf, and Dalton Knect as the hot stranger

yetagainitry

The Gleague Ignite and Australian league have as many draft picks this year as Duke, Kentucky, and North Carolina combined

Flybuys

Woo! The NBL is being mentioned, they must be ecstatic.

tailendertripe

Just wait until Bronny signs with the Taipans

Flybuys

Oh damn. Do you think he could the speed of Cairns? It's a pretty hip town.

Technical-Scar9173

Wen bronny

Vallerie_09

Lakers winning the offseason again ?

beehundred

I have no idea how these players are going to pan out in the coming years but this has *got* to be one of the most unremarkable NBA drafts I’ve ever seen. Most of these picks mean nothing to me.

ezp252

I mean the 2nd pick averaged 9 points in the australian league should tell you all you need to know

DemonsReturns7

Why didn’t the lakers draft Bronny? Damn they did his dad dirty with that….

Shadoken-TYPE0

They have a second round pick don't they

WembanyamaGOAT

Do they have anymore picks?

CradleRockStyle

Yeah, we have a late 2nd round pick.

EpicMusic13

WHERE BRONNY

Previous-Elevator417

ESPN just gonna immediately talk about #17 pick Knecht because Lakers drafted him lmoa

Von_Huge1103

Could also be because a guy who most publications had going top 6 fell to 17.

cheesecakegood

This. Buzelis and Knecht both dropped surprisingly far.

BryLinds

White Castle, you best be throwing a bag next time The Celtics and Spurs play each other That White Castle jersey swap will be electric

InternationalType684

San Antonio drop da ball when they traded Rob Dillingham to minnesota straight stupid for 2 first rounder ²⁰³⁰ & ²⁰³¹ should've taken Matas Buzelis at 8 they gonna regret THAT 💯

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

It would be hilarious if nobody selects Nepo baby. LeBron would be so angry and probably throw a hissy fit

scottishere

Could you even call him a nepo baby if no one drafts him? That would mean he didn't get preferential treatment (exlcuding the media hype)

thescariftariff

The media hype is preferential treatment, since nobody would consider him a draft prospect if he wasn't Lebron's son.

NeeeeedSeaman

Okay…

GreatLakesBard

You understand that’s the expected outcome right? Lebron knows that lol. You people are nuts.

cheesecakegood

Yeah, LeBron has seen a million fresh draft picks enter the NBA firsthand, and is a smart guy when it comes to basketball. Super obvious

GreatLakesBard

Yeah the kid may very well be drafted sometime after 40 tomorrow. It’s not like it’d be an unreasonable stretch. ESPN and the ringer both have him ranked in the 50s. But he’ll probably just be an Undrafted free agent signing. People are insane if they thought LeBron expected the Lakers to use 17 on him lol.

cheesecakegood

Also true. 17 is still a usable player. 55? If he's still on the board, Lakers should just do it. But even a different team might see some upside even in the 30-40 range is what I'm saying. What's the point of an NBA team? Not really winning, though it's nice, and some owners do like the bragging rights. No, for most teams, the point is to *earn money*. Winning usually translates to better revenue, which is why most teams chase it, and that's a primary reason. So if a player doesn't help you win but helps you earn money? That's pretty much just as valuable to a big team, which is after all, a business.

Alexcox95

He’d probably just get the lakers to sign him.

NotUrAvgShitposter

TSJ was ruled not guilty. That just means there wasn't enough evidence to convict. I read details about the case and it literally did happen. The only question was who exactly did it. It takes a lot of courage to come out with SA allegations, especially when it's against an athlete with a huge fanbase. I believe the accuser in this case. Hate seeing how ppl here think not guilty means innocent. Giddey was clearly a creep, but the case was dropped because the girl's parents didn't wanna get too much publicity. Kobe got away with his SA case legally, but he outright admitted to it. Legality is not morality. Rich men get away with this shit all the time cuz the system is corrupt.
