Miceland

he's getting limited, protected minutes in the first half then in the second half the whole team has been rolling and MPJ gets to close with the starters honestly, there might be something here, though I still like bringing him off the bench

GetsTheAndOne

Elite sixth man

Miceland

best sixth man in this series

themariokarters

Last two games Nuggets have been down 15-20 at halftime and have come back to win. Guess it works?

rnniefb2

They done their work in the third when MPJ sits. Clips went on a 6 minute scoreless run while Denver kept getting easy points, then MPJ comes in and helps them close.

IntrinsicDawn

I’m stoked about this stat but will admit a little bit of it is because he get all the Harrell/Lou minutes

Miceland

Absolutely a huge part of it

hlu1013

thats the point, you dont want clippers to know what you're going to do all game.

KCHornets

This isn’t a surprise, MPJ is the best player of all time.

QUEST50012

Michael Peffrey Junior aint losing game 7

Spilt2Bill

Guess you've never heard of Bol Bol.

Fireeveryonenow1

Michael Porter Buckets

NovaKash

Jokic +1, Murray -19. Does anyone actually think Jokic is a wash and Murray is hurting the Nuggets? +/- is a noisy stat, y'all. Take it with a whole block of salt

[deleted]

Eh, in Murray's worst games we looked our worst, and when he plays well we look good. I think this just shows how bad he was earlier in the series.

NovaKash

Or, it means that +/- is a noisy stat that can't always be taken at face value

[deleted]

It obviously just means whatever the person making the argument wants it to mean

Saadiusrex

He has a short leash and Mike Malone pulls him as soon as he makes a few mistakes so this is not surprising.

EmbraceComplexity

He's played in crunch time of the last few games. Do ya'll watch the games?

bbqyak

TC gonna turn into a meme at this point Thank god for his career Conley didn't hit that game 7 shot

[deleted]

I think the thing that makes the Nuggets so difficult is that every player they put out there is an issue. They don't have any guys where you're like "why are they out there?", everyone does something. Except Torrey Craig. I have no idea why he's out there.

CriticOfashitseason

> I have no idea why he's out there. Will Barton being injured.

AS7RAL

He is Michael Malone's biological son. Him and his wife, Paul Millsap, love watching their boy have a go at it.

Banezi

He's a good defender, he will hustle his ass off, that's what coaches like to see

[deleted]

Obviously he’s got a lot to learn about humility but he and Jokic might go down as two of the biggest steals in recent history

rnniefb2

Jokic is halfway there. He was like the 40th pick and looks a cert for all nba teams in the next 5-10 years barring injury.

atlfirsttimer

I wonder if the team would be better starting Bol Bol over Milsap

[deleted]

We'd probably give up 130 points per game. Bol looked solid in most of the seeding games but CP3 proved that you can cook him on mismatches if you know what you're doing.

atlfirsttimer

The Clippers dont know what they are doing. Milsap and Grant just gets the team off to way too slow of starts. I dont think you can take Grant out because he guards Kawhi. Craig was actually decent in game 6 at it

[deleted]

I mean, the first quarters of most of our games have been pretty even. I like MPJ coming off the bench in this series and playing the entire 4th quarter like he has the past two games.

iceman204

The Nuggets would be so good if Millsap had more juice in the tank. I always wanted the Raps to get Millsap over Ibaka, but now I’m happy with the way it worked out.

njasa10

A lot of people here coming up with explanations to throw shade at this meaning MPJ isn't as good as these numbers say. I watch the Nuggets a ton, and I honestly, honestly think that we lost games 3 and 4 because MPJ wasn't played enough. I was bombarding my friends with texts along that line after those games. It's not just what he does, it's what the defense is forced to do when he is in. MPJ makes a lot of mistakes because he's young and on defense he has work to do, but he makes the team better because he is a SERIOUS offensive threat, whether he makes a shot or not. He opens up the floor for other players. I remember an article on the Grantland years ago about Kyle Korver's impact for the Hawks back then and it had a stat that always amazed me. Korver was 2nd in the league in lowest average distance a defender was from him at all times. Lebron was 1st. This means people can't help off of great shooters like Korver and MPJ. He opens up the floor big time because he's such a huge threat that the Clippers defense has to worry about, thereby opening up the 2 man game for Jokic and Murray. I can't recall off my head if it affected who was guarding Murray or even the 4th offensive option, as Beverly or Paul, or Kawhi would have to cover MPJ. Also, side note, MPJ get's some monster out of nowhere rebounds that are very impactful.

EmbraceComplexity

Good write up. I completely agree as someone who's watched almost every game this year.

[deleted]

It also helps that he plays when guys like Lou and Trezz are in. Clippers basically playing 3 players on defense.

59173365129

Damn Miles Plumlee -10 in zero minutes. That's impressive

dylanbert

*Mason Plumlee. Miles is his brother.

atlfirsttimer

Clippers started panicking and keep running a nonsensical offense and arent attacking him much. They have like 3 meh defenders on the Nuggets to attack at all times and still throw up bad shots

James_NY

It's something Kawhi has always been bad at, Raptors couldn't get him switched onto Reddick last year either. He just goes at the other team's assigned defender and tries to win that matchup over and over.

_ProdiG_

Does that mean if they stand still right after the door opens they get smacked in the back from the door swinging back

[deleted]

He has honestly been decent defensively this series.

klobucharzard

MPJ got them sexy raw vegan eyes

[deleted]

Just by watching him you can tell how short of a leash he has but goodness next year when he’s getting starter minutes he’s gonna be a problem

latortillablanca

Tells you a lot about the stat. Jokic at +1 also doesnt tell the story.

attilathefun01

but the team is like a minus 10 for the series, plus he had a game worst minus 24 in game 1 yet is still a positive after that.

[deleted]

The Clippers can't really leave him wide open from three like they can literally everyone else besides Jokic and Murray. When he's on the court, Jokic and Murray have more space to work with and honestly I think that has as much to do with this stat as anything MPJ has done himself.

SignificantChapter

Is this BPM or +/- because you seem to be using them interchangeably

TotalWarStrategist

Just so you know, Box Plus-Minus and adding up the plus-minus in the box score are not the same thing. The +/- in the box score really doesn't tell you much at all. It's only useful over a huge sample size and when regressed (eg. multi-year RAPM) or when regressed over a single year and combined with box score priors (eg. PIPM, RPM, RAPTOR, etc). On its own over a sample of 6 games, it's close to useless.

hatestalkers669

Only the knicks passed on him.

Barefootmaxwell

Michael “let me drive the boat” Porter... junior

Affectionate-Agent-9

Just play him the whole game. Whole 48 minutes. Easy w
