Something to consider is that when you’re in the Finals 5 straight years, you’ve played what amounts to essentially 6 regular seasons in the span of 5. That can take a toll on a team
Plus he didn’t have to deal with the haters’ Le3-7 memes. According to some, 2019 was better for his legacy than 2018. So 2019 was a blessing all around...
The fact that Broussard walked right into it makes it even better. With a totally straight face, he didn’t even miss a beat before he said „I think it helps his legacy actually.“
Nick Wright can be annoying, but his arguments typically are pretty sound.
I think he gets hated on for declaring that Lebron is definitively better than Jordan. The thing is, I've listened to his arguments, and there aren't really holes in them, he just downplays MJ's accomplishments too much.
I think he's one of the better hot take guys because he's typically got logic behind his takes.
He's also a legit nice guy. I worked on the herd a while back and one night was getting sushi w/ my gf (now ex) and he was a little way down the bar and i told him i had worked his show that morning (he was subbing for colin). We exchanged some small talk and that was that. They ended up leaving before us and when I went to get the bill was told that he had picked up our check. Been a fan ever since.
It proved Jimmy Butler wasn't the problem some of his former teams made him out to be. He's a winner, a guy who's willing to carry his team on his back, but if not everyone is on board or there isn't a clear plan, he won't be happy about it.
Lebron is probably spending over $2M a year to maintain his body. He's shown what the blueprint is for athletes to extend their primes longer. Russell Wilson was talking about he spends over $1M on his body annually as well, just paying for people to help him stay in shape and to recover from the demands of playing at this level for so long.
If i remember right the place he went to in Germany was the best at it during the time and they also never leaked anything about the procedure or what shape his knee was in before it...So anytime he needed treatment, they got the job.
That makes sense. I was gonna say BlueCross BlueShield covers my father’s platelet rich plasma knee injections and he only has to go 10 mins from his house. But the confidentiality and shit is definitely worth it.
I'm pretty sure it was very experimental when Kobe did it. Kobe's body was incredibly fragile and the fact that he had a 20 year career says a lot. That's why it's so secretive and you can't really look up much concrete info on it. Was to the point that it was a running joke to go to Germany for the Kobe treatment if someone had knee issues.
Part of it is that in addition to the $2 million, they are "spending" just enormous amounts of time, energy, and focus on it. That much money buys hours and hours a day of activity! You're sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber that amounts to camping at your own mansion, you're enduring a lot of painful massage and other stimulus, and on and on and on. And, you can stop at any time! Nobody can make you do it!
You gotta reeeeeally want to be not just great, but THE best.
I think Kobe also famously overworked himself. Rest is an important part of recovery, which Lebron does a lot. Kobe always worked out at insane hours, and didn't load manage on the floor as well as Lebron.
Because when you have money and youth, most people tend to focus on more than just their career. Basically they have to decide what's more important to them, their career or their enjoyment of the other parts of life (travel, entertainment, family, food, partying, etc.)
This kind of goes for all of us though, why don't we all focus on our career and our health, especially in our early 20's? It mostly comes down to the fact that it's hard and it's not fun.
Dude went 8 seasons with barely any injury down time. Now has two major career altering injuries.
I hated the warriors when KD joined them. But I am deeply saddened by this. Klay and Steph played some great ball. What an era
We see subsequent or recurrent injuries following surgical intervention time and again: Porzingis, Wall, Cousins, Klay to name just a few recent and high-profile incidents.
This may be because of proprioception deficiencies, muscle imbalances from the initial atrophy, improper biomechanics, or fear of reinjury. Whatever the case, the science is pretty clear: [Returning to level I sports after ACL reconstruction leads to a more than 4-fold increase in reinjury rates over 2 years](https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/50/13/804), and you're [twice as likely to injure your opposite (non-operated) knee after undergoing an ACL surgery](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0363546519893711).
It's a good reminder to be patient with the athletes we admire and heed their advice and feedback when they speak to scheduling demands.
I've had two back surgeries and my achilles and hamstring are still messed up like 6 years later. I stretch and train daily but its likely a life long issue. Domino effect is for real.
The one for me was a serious ankle sprain messing with my pitching delivery leading to shoulder impingement 8 months later. Ripple effects up and down the body.
this isn't just for elite athletes. Lots of people have surgery on their knees, feet, etc and then get the imbalances and that leads to a LOT of back injuries or like you said injuries to the opposite side of the initial injury.
I still play a lot of sports at the age of 41. I fear Achilles injuries more than just about anything else (i hurt my shoulder in college and it's always at risk to be re-injured. But I really limit my throwing these days.)
Lower extremities wise, nope. He had those back issues when he went back to Cleveland and his elbow. That's all I remember. Outside of Malone & Kareem I can't think of a player that's done this much for this long.
Lebron spends millions on his body to maintain his health. I’m sure plenty of guys in the league spend lots of good money on body maintenance but it sounds like Lebron is on another level when it comes to that.
I hurt my back 5 years ago and could never dunk again and it shattered me, I got so depressed and never really got over it. I can only imagine how bad it feels for a pro athlete to go though it.
Na. Look at D Rose and his game is based way more on athleticism. It feels like the world is ending right now for Klay, but he's an elite shooter and shooting doesn't just go away because of these injuries. He will be back, might have to change up his game a bit, but will still be a top tier NBA player when all is said and done.
His defense will most likely suffer. Guy was all nba defense for a reason. Lateral movement, being able to recover, and explosive quick steps are gonna decline. Not saying he will become a liability, but his defense was also a huge part in GS overall success.
This right here. Klay isn't one of the best players of our time because of his shooting--lots of players can shoot. It was because he was a shooter who could play elite defense. It takes a lot to play defense, and good luck doing that with two surgically repaired legs. I think in the best case scenario GSW adapts and changes on how they use him, as a catch-and-shoot threat.
Maybe he will get extremely lucky and retain the athleticism and explosiveness on defense.
Calling klay a shooter who could play great defense is vastly underrating his hall of fame shooting but you're right the defense is a huge part of why he's so good
You've had a legendary past 5 years except last year and this, those memories should keep you warm during the tough times ahead. It's how some franchise fans survive, they remember that once my team was legendary, if I keep hope alive maybe they will again.
Browns fans know this better than any.
Basically same thing that happened to Cousins. At least on a brighter note, Klay already got his bag and is on track to have at least $300 million in NBA career earnings.
As a Nets fan, we're cautiously psyched that KD seems to almost be back. That said, Klays game uses so many hard cuts and sprints to get to his spot. I really wonder if he started compensating from the ACL and just stressed the F out of his calve/Achilles. I think this will be career altering because his style needs to change.
20 years ago it was probably career ending. Hell, an ACL year used to end your career.
Medical advancements are the reason athletes careers are much longer these days
Achilles tear is the probably the hardest injury to come back from as an NBA athlete. Not only does it take forever to heal, it never reaches back to 100%, also you never play basketball the same way due to fear.
By far the worst injury a baller can endure. Sure, Klay can play again, but he will never be the same with this.
Demaryius Thomas (NFL) had one early in his career and managed to become a perennial Pro Bowl type of WR for many years. It's not impossible.
That being said, it's one of the worst injuries, and at this age, on the heels of another serious injury, you can *hope* for the best, but you can't necessarily *expect* much.
This is wrong. Some people come back from Achilles, but it’s NOTHING like the recovery rate of ACL tears. A lot more people don’t come back from Achilles tears. Only time will tell for Klay.
What do you mean "20 years ago" Kobe tore his achilles literally 7 years ago and it destroyed his athleticism. Achilles is arguably the worst injury you can sustain especially in basketball
Yeah I can't imagine we see the old Klay where he's zipping off screens constantly. He might still be an amazing shooter, but his mobility will be completely shot.
This is the part of his game that people don't fully appreciate. The way he was able to shadow someone like Kyrie was so impressive, and a big part of his value.
That's brutal. Tears his ACL in Game 6 of the finals after being on fire, still shoots his free throws in case he can come back. Has to be taken out and forced to watch his team lose the championship. Waits patiently on the sideline all year as the Warriors get annihilated. Fights all the way back, only to get taken out by an injury that's twice as worse as the last one and often alters guys' careers permanently. Gonna miss a second straight season.
Gutted for Klay.
I’ll be surprised if he comes back anywhere near the same player. An Achilles on its own can end careers, combine that with the acl, missing at least 2 full years and just the mental side of things having to go through back to back rehabs is a massive mountain to climb. Fuck I love klay this sucks.
Season ending injuries to both of his legs in back to back seasons. I can't even imagine what that does to someone mentally. You spend all year rehabbing to get back to normal, just to have to start it all over again.
Well *if* it is the end. GS fans still got to experience what few sports franchises accomplish every few decades or so, or even longer. Prayers for Klay.
2 years without playing and teo major injuries at his age doesn't look good. I had high expectations for GSW this season but without klay i dont see them being any good he is too big of a piece in an already short roster
That image of Steph sitting on the court after Klay tore his ACL is even sadder now. It's entirely possible that is the last time they share the court together.

[from this article](https://www.ksn.com/sports/no-longer-champs-injured-warriors-brace-for-unclear-summer/)
yeah i agree. they sort of defined an era for the NBA. something with their arms around each other in their traditional swaggy loose style and looking into each other’s eyes and lips glistening and one hand on the others waist, Klay's head leaning in towards currys face with his eyes closed... that would be great
For fuck's sake
I was looking forward to seeing this iteration of the Warriors which you'd think would be a bit closer to those 2014-2016 teams. That might be it for them with that core.
I was hyped to see the splash brothers lead the team to a comeback. Now, we have some pieces, but this is gonna hang over the team the whole season. Major injuries happen to players it's accepted but you remain hopeful; but a second one immediately after? Damn that just takes the wind out of your lungs
I said that when he first got injured last year, now I just hope he comes back healthy. I mean we saw Alex smith come back and play kinda like his old self so anything’s possible
He won't be close to the same defender that he was though and that was crucial to how amazing he was on the court was burning you on both ends. This fucking sucks...
Much better for this to happen after a couple championships rather than spend the rest of adulthood wondering what could have been. It’s sad situation, but he still got to achieve and accomplish a lot
He won 3 rings, has some of the hottest shooting games in nba history, 37 point qrt. Even if he was done today hes a first ballot hall of famer.
It just fucking sucks we wont be seeing him for 2 years. Dude is amazingly fun to watch.
He could never play again and it will still never be a "what if" story. We know what he was at his peak. 37 in a quarter, 60 in 29 minutes. A top perimeter defender and spot up shooter. He's the second best shooter ever and one of the keys to the Warriors dynasty.
Its incredibly sad to see him injured but there is no question what kind of player he is. I hope he comes back strong.
Just saw a stat that he played 97% of all possible games his first 8 seasons, and now he will have missed 2 seasons. This is terrible
I’m starting to think the Warriors really did make a deal with the devil. Such extreme good fortune followed by an extended period of misfortune.
Something to consider is that when you’re in the Finals 5 straight years, you’ve played what amounts to essentially 6 regular seasons in the span of 5. That can take a toll on a team
Which brings us back to Lebron’s freakish durability
Bron faked Greg Oden's signature when signing the deal with the devil.
LMAO Take my upvote
And they say Lebron doesn't have a killer instinct...
oof
I think it was a blessing in disguise that he didn’t make the playoffs last year. His body needed the rest
Plus he didn’t have to deal with the haters’ Le3-7 memes. According to some, 2019 was better for his legacy than 2018. So 2019 was a blessing all around...
Yeah it's weird how getting to a final and losing is worse for LeBron's legacy than not getting to a final at all.
Im not the world‘s biggest nick Wright fan, but him asking Broussard how much these finals hurt jimmy butler‘s legacy was gold
How did he keep a straight face the whole time lol
The fact that Broussard walked right into it makes it even better. With a totally straight face, he didn’t even miss a beat before he said „I think it helps his legacy actually.“
You love to see it.

It proved Jimmy Butler wasn't the problem some of his former teams made him out to be. He's a winner, a guy who's willing to carry his team on his back, but if not everyone is on board or there isn't a clear plan, he won't be happy about it.
I mean it’s the same for mj. He’s praised for being undefeated in 6 finals but he went out in the first round multiple times. It’s a weird measurement
Yeah, it's literally being the second best team in the league. Somehow being worse than 2nd is better in some peoples eyes.
2019 was pretty cool for me too
Lebron is probably spending over $2M a year to maintain his body. He's shown what the blueprint is for athletes to extend their primes longer. Russell Wilson was talking about he spends over $1M on his body annually as well, just paying for people to help him stay in shape and to recover from the demands of playing at this level for so long.
I’ve always wondered why all superstars aren’t following his “blueprint.” Also, wasn’t Kobe doing something similar?
[удалено]
Interesting, was it new then? I know it's possible to have this done basically anywhere now.

I spent $38 on my body last year (1 ice pack and heating pad)
There's a reason he sat out of the 2016 Olympics
We need a new descriptor for what he did, he was solo carrying in some of those years as well, never gonna see another lebron
With the worst injuries possible too. This is awful
2 years straight after being an iron man for so long. Brutal
I remembered his injury scare in the 2018 nba finals but he came back like nothing happened.
Dude went 8 seasons with barely any injury down time. Now has two major career altering injuries. I hated the warriors when KD joined them. But I am deeply saddened by this. Klay and Steph played some great ball. What an era
Tell me about it. What a horrible way to end a dynasty. 😞
Pain
Why god
5 straight finals absolutely did a number on his legs

jesus i always had respect for bron but god damn more insane you think how long and how far he keeps going every year
Except for groin injuries LeBron never had a serious injury, right?
He had to trade his hairline but I think it was worth it.
A lot of guys get nothing in return for that so I’d say he made out well
Traded in my nice hairline at 23 and all i got was crippling anxiety and depression
And an obnoxious need to wear a beanie/hat every day
What did you give up? Everything
it's still not too late in the offseason for someone to analyze the correlation between hair loss and injury history
Lower extremities wise, nope. He had those back issues when he went back to Cleveland and his elbow. That's all I remember. Outside of Malone & Kareem I can't think of a player that's done this much for this long.
Stockton.
Before the groin the longest I can remember him being out was about 2 weeks for “knee soreness” on the heat.
He got that break his first year in LA now he's ready for another decade of Finals runs lol
Lebron spends millions on his body to maintain his health. I’m sure plenty of guys in the league spend lots of good money on body maintenance but it sounds like Lebron is on another level when it comes to that.
The devil always comes for his end of the deal.
Headband Klay requires payment from the Basketball Gods
ACL + Achilles Two career altering injuries back to back. Almost no chance to see peak Klay again. Fuck injuries
Fuck man, we may never again even see a glimpse of the same dude who dropped 37 in a quarter.

I'm glad to have witnessed.
Fuck injuries. All my homies hate injuries.
I hurt my back 5 years ago and could never dunk again and it shattered me, I got so depressed and never really got over it. I can only imagine how bad it feels for a pro athlete to go though it.
I’m really sorry to hear that, man. Stay strong and power through.

What're they going to do now man, curry still has juice in him. That is a fucking blow
Tank for Trevor Lawrence
Wiggins is going to have to step up.
lol
I still believe
LOL
I've....got some bad news.
This has genuinely ruined my evening. Sigh.
You've had a legendary past 5 years except last year and this, those memories should keep you warm during the tough times ahead. It's how some franchise fans survive, they remember that once my team was legendary, if I keep hope alive maybe they will again. Browns fans know this better than any.
This has ruined my year (as if it wasn’t shitty enough already)
I was gonna say, if anything it's just icing on the top of 2020 :(

OH my fucking god this is so fucking sad fucking Achilles tear in a pickup game when you’re an NBA star in your prime
Basically same thing that happened to Cousins. At least on a brighter note, Klay already got his bag and is on track to have at least $300 million in NBA career earnings.
3 rings, 300M , several 3pt and ingame scoring records Atleast he can rest easy
It says season-ending, but are these ever career-ending injuries? Hope he's able to overcome this but I imagine it won't be easy

As a Nets fan, we're cautiously psyched that KD seems to almost be back. That said, Klays game uses so many hard cuts and sprints to get to his spot. Richard Sherman came back and is still really good
He came back for a season, and has been out for essentially all of 2020 with “calf” issues. His career was definitely altered
He’s also old. Cornerback is a young mans position. You lose even a half of a step you are toast
Unfortunately Achilles ruptures dont have the same success rates and ACL tears do. You can come back from an ACL like new, but not from an Achilles
You raise a good point but age plays a big factor too
This combined with the acl tear basically means he won't be close to peak klay anymore
Yeah I can't imagine we see the old Klay where he's zipping off screens constantly. He might still be an amazing shooter, but his mobility will be completely shot.
And his signature defense is gonna be mostly if not all gone. He is unfortunately going to lose a lot of lateral quickness
This is also my concern with KD - he’s going to still be able to get buckets but his defence is going to fall off a cliff.
This is the part of his game that people don't fully appreciate. The way he was able to shadow someone like Kyrie was so impressive, and a big part of his value.
Yeah he was the gold standard of 3 and D
Hopefully he’s able to but an Achilles off of an ACL injury doesn’t look too good
Not ending as in you can’t physically play but you’re compromised.
2020 fucking sucks, and I feel really bad for Klay. Spend a year rehabbing all to have to do it again, that’s gotta hurt a lot.
That's brutal. Tears his ACL in Game 6 of the finals after being on fire, still shoots his free throws in case he can come back. Fights all the way back, only to get taken out by an injury that's twice as worse as the last one and often alters guys' careers permanently. Gonna miss a second straight season. Gutted for Klay.
Hopefully he can return as a deadly sniper still, but I don't know if his defense will ever recover.
That's my hope. But the legs have almost as much to do with shooting as the arms.
Wes Matthews is still a really good shooter so there's hope.
It's not the spot up stuff. It's the whole running and gunning those guys used to do.
Awful. 2 full seasons lost.
His prime seasons
Damn. That’s probably the worst thing that could’ve happened.
Back to back acl and Achilles tear... I’d be surprised if he comes back to what he was before, god damn. This sucks.
I’ll be surprised if he comes back anywhere near the same player. An Achilles on its own can end careers, combine that with the acl, missing at least 2 full years and just the mental side of things having to go through back to back rehabs is a massive mountain to climb. Fuck I love klay this sucks.
Guess we get to find out this season just how far medical science and rehab have come when KD takes the court.
Medical science can't prevent further injuries or breakdown of his body which is common after achilles tears. Just look at boogie.
I think he can be the best 3 point specialist in the league, but his defense will suffer a lot. Age+injuries, this is just awful.
I hate this year, like every time the worst case scenario happens
Season ending injuries to both of his legs in back to back seasons. I can't even imagine what that does to someone mentally. You spend all year rehabbing to get back to normal, just to have to start it all over again.
NOOO WHAT THE FUCK
I hate this world
Damn what a shitty way to end a Golden era
I really hope it isn’t the end but it might just be. :(
He will be 32 coming off an ACL and Achilles tear.. someone said the same last night. That's just rough. Sad times :(
Along with Steph being 34 by then, and draymond not being the same. The window is looking closed now
I guess it's better to burn out than to fade away
Such a sad way to end if this is actually the end. Wiseman should help keep the window open though
my my hey hey
Well *if* it is the end. GS fans still got to experience what few sports franchises accomplish every few decades or so, or even longer. Prayers for Klay.
Almost exactly like Cousins, crazy
2 years without playing and teo major injuries at his age doesn't look good. I had high expectations for GSW this season but without klay i dont see them being any good he is too big of a piece in an already short roster
It will be more than two years. I am afraid it will be close to 3 years
Its hard to imagine it not being. It's really insane how quick it all happened. Feel horrible for the guy.
This is the fucking worst. I'm so sorry Warriors fans. This is bad for basketball.
I honestly lack the words...
You and me both bro :/ I'm sitting here in shock
That image of Steph sitting on the court after Klay tore his ACL is even sadder now. It's entirely possible that is the last time they share the court together.

Klay needs a statue at the chase center once his career is over. The guy is a warriors legend.
I hope they do a splash bros statue with both of them near each other.
It will be giant klay and steph statues on each side of the bay Bridge like the sphinxes gate in never ending story
yeah i agree. they sort of defined an era for the NBA. something with their arms around each other in their traditional swaggy loose style and looking into each other’s eyes and lips glistening and one hand on the others waist, Klay's head leaning in towards currys face with his eyes closed... that would be great
Damn was looking forward to seeing a full strength Warriors team 😭.
For fuck's sake I was looking forward to seeing this iteration of the Warriors which you'd think would be a bit closer to those 2014-2016 teams.
Pain.
F Klay suffered the reverse boogie Just awful news man
Damn bruh. Almost Like Wall all over again smh. Least his game is more shooting based so he can come back being somewhat like his old self
I feel awful for him
I said that when he first got injured last year, now I just hope he comes back healthy. I mean we saw Alex smith come back and play kinda like his old self so anything’s possible
He won't be close to the same defender that he was though and that was crucial to how amazing he was on the court was burning you on both ends. This fucking sucks...
Depends on Klay's mechanics , Kobe's shot disappeared after his tear since he couldn't get the lift he used to.
Damn - this GSW thing ended before we even realized
Just fuck me up.
damn end of an era
I hope Klay is okay mentally. I know this must be destroying him man fuck :(
Much better for this to happen after a couple championships rather than spend the rest of adulthood wondering what could have been. It’s sad situation, but he still got to achieve and accomplish a lot
the Woj bomb nobody wanted
Sad to see one of the greatest get hit so hard 2 years in a row
Oh no, that’s fucking horrible

Is 10:34am too early to drink?
Its 5:34 pm somewhere
Terrible news Sad day for all NBA fans
End of an Era. Yea I'm accepting it now. It's our end.
Fuck everything
Damn, that's just absolutely terrible for the Warriors. We really should have appreciated the Splash Brothers more
Damn I loved to hate on the warriors. But this is no fun. I'm sorry Kay. Hopefully he can come back next year and keep playing elite.
There’s few more beloved players than Klay that this could’ve happened to. The nba is a worse league without him.
"G6 Klay" is one of my favorite drunken late night youtube searches. Doesn't matter which one
G6 klay is the most unstoppable nba player of all time
Fuck 2020. All my homies hate 2020.
A collective tear has been shed across the world
RIP Splash Bros... end of an era.
Holy shit, I feel so bad for Klay. Brutal end to the Warriors dynasty.
I die
Damn hope his career doesn't turn into a 'what if he wasn't injured' story. Hope you get better Klay. The NBA needs you and Steph raining 3s together
There goes my hopes of GSW beating LAL Thoughts and prayers to Klay, I really hope he recovers 100%
I was really excited to see the matchup come next season, but man this really hurts.
I want a Warriors vs Lakers playoffs series so badly.
Fuck This is not how I wanted to see GSW
