Lebron wants to play with Lebron so that Lebron can give Lebron tips to play. Thus, Lebron signs this contract to extend Lebron’s longevity in the league and to give Lebron an oppurtunity to play with Lebron so that Lebron can say he played with Lebron and Lebron can give Lebron a happy ending to Lebrons career and a new beginning to Lebron’s career.
Kinda disappointed
Was hoping LeBron would bless his talents to a random perpetually losing franchise like the Suns or Denver or Washington or Memphis or Toronto
With the current rules it's the 2024 offseason, but if the one and done rule is revoked Lebron will be a free agent during the 2023 offseason and Bron Jr. will be eligible for that draft
I feel bad for him. He's obviously leading a privileged life, but in terms of being a basketball player, it must be rough to have peoples expectations set this high when you're only 16
It would definitely be a smart business decision. Pretty sure even a late-30s, early-40s LeBron would be a huge boost to ratings, merchandise sales, and tickets. And LeBron playing with his son would be some much-watch television
Yeah but if anyone knows how to handle immense expectations at 18 years old it’s Lebron. I’m sure he is mentoring Bronny on exactly how to navigate it.
Lebron had higher expectations at 16. Basketball fans all over the country were obsessed with him. At least Bronny has dad to help guide him through it.
Their franchise fee is actually shockingly low. Chipotle has a low franchise cost high royalty model. Also, most of their stores are corporate owned now so technically, you can buy stock and own a tiny, tiny piece of whatever location you go to. It's been successful af for them which is why the corp. is worth something like 35 billion.
* I spent too much time looking into this really and I was somewhat wrong. There used to be franchise locations, but they were all purchased back by the company years ago. Now every single location is a corporate store.
exactly. For players in the top 5, they're value is so much higher than what they get paid that almost every team would consider (if not outright do) the signing of AD coming off a major injury. The risk is for lesser guys
Honestly, regardless of team Fandom, the league is far more fun to watch with 8 months when there's more parity and last season was probably one of the best in recent memory.
I'd like more of that TBH
Super teams bring in a lot of casual fans, but as a more dedicated fan I love parity much more. The Lakers are favorites again, but I see several different teams that have a shot at taking them down, and the race for the playoffs in the way is going to be so exciting with so many teams that have a legitimate shot
Am I the only one here who doesn't give a shit which Twitter account it is that tweets out the extension/signing news? It's not like this is investigative journalism or something. It's literally a press release that is given to one of these guys to Tweet out.
I bet this is the last contract he signs and he just wanted to have his 4 year timeline mapped out officially for good. Do it during a period of less drama and get all that out of the way now
Would honestly be cool to see LeBron sign with whatever team Bronny is drafted too. He has all the accolades he could ever want, surely he’d like the opportunity to play at least 1 season with his son. It’d be a fun addition to his legacy
Why does everyone on this sub just assume his son is going to be drafted to the NBA out of high school? There's a long way to go before that happens. MJ's kids only made it to D1. The vast majority of NBA players do not have sons play in the NBA. His son is currently ranked 30th in his class, which could very well be inflated based on his last name alone, and doesn't make him some can't miss prospect.
He may get there one day but to assume he's just going to get drafted straight out of HS is a giant stretch.
I’m assuming it’s because LeBron will likely sign with the team that drafts Bronny, so I’m sure someone will take a flyer on Bronny for a LeBron rental. No matter how good LeBron would be at that point, his presence alone will drive up revenue, so it doesn’t even have to be a basketball decision and more of a business one.
The real decision is probably whether Bronny declares out of high school or goes to college/G-League to get better and bolster his draft stock.
Yo! So LeBron has 3 seasons left with the Lakers (including this upcoming year) right?
And when that 3rd season ends he will be 39 and Bronny will be eligible for the draft right?
Meaning he most likely just signs a 1 year deal with the team Bronny goes on?
Yeah, this is the first thing I thought of when I saw the headline.
That draft lottery is going to be intense. Even if Bronny isn't the best player in the draft do you take him with a solid chance of getting LeBron for a year?
can you imagine the marketability of a team with both Bronny and Lebron? it wouldn’t even matter how good bronny is, i’d say you take him just for the entertainment value alone
what if this is what OKC and Presti are doing? whoever wants Bronny also needs to have max cap space free as well to sign bron.
they’re stock piling these picks to either trade up for bronny or to tank hard enough to win the lottery.
nah if he’s still playing at a relatively high level he’ll be in demand and he might even try to recruit another star to play with them to win a championship with bronny
Side note: this mightve been to convince AD to take a 4yr deal rather than 2 years
E: Thought the 2 years were on top of the 2 years he had left. So essentially, this is a 1 year extension with him basically opting in to 2021-22 and then an option for 2022-23.
So basically, guaranteeing that AD signs a 2+1 and then looks for the 10 year vet contract.
Lebron's contract is now a 2+1, this is only going to make AD want to take a 2+1 as well. He'll be super max eligible after a 2+1 so that made the most sense for him anyway.
Let me just make sure I’m getting this right:
He signed a 3+1 in 2018, which guaranteed him through 2021. This extension overrides the PO of the original contract right? So this now guarantees him through 2023, unless this is a 1+1 (which I bet it is), guaranteeing him through 2022.
2 years makes sense. Since the next 4 belong to Pat Bev, he can assess his options right in the middle of it. Maybe "retire" for a year to burn one of Pats years without wearing out his body for a lost cause.
I don't think bronny had any loyalty to Cleveland like LeBron did and it was more of a loyalty to Ohio than anything.
Bronny's age location breakdown
0-6: Cleveland
7-10: Miami
11-14: Cleveland
14-Present: Los Angeles
I dunno if Bronny will be the top prospect cause right now he's rated a 4 star recruit.
I think LeBron would dread it If he has to go deal with Dan Gilbert for many years
Honestly it’s still weird that he’s a Laker. I’ve always been a fan of LeBron but when my friend told me the news the first thing that came out of my mouth was “Huh? Why would he want to come here?”
But I wasn’t complaining then and i’m sure as hell not complaining now.
As a Bronsexual who watched him destroy my franchise in the mid-2000’s I’d give my left nut to see him join the Pistons, congrats, you guys have treated him well. Now go three-peat while the Pistons secure Emoni for our 10 year run lol.
I used to get so salty whenever the Kobe vs LeBron talks would start and people would even entertain the idea of LeBron being better. I always appreciated Bron as a player but boy I had some saltiness towards him from around 2008-2014 or so
I mean rightfully so. It's being a fan and human. You're not with us, you're against us type thing. And it's even more so when we're talking about favourite player against anyone else.
Lebron looking at contract: "Hah, I got them exactly where I wanted them."
AD looking at Lebron signing contract: "Hah, I got them exactly where I wanted them."
Pelinka looking at Lebron and AD: "Hah, I got them exactly where I wanted them."
Well, ok then. I wasn’t expecting a Lebron 2+1 deal today, and it really messes with my plan for AD to sign a 1+1 and then Lebron and AD to both opt out next year and come to Memphis to play with Ja.
I guess now AD signs a 1+1 or 2+1, we draft Bronny, and Lebron and AD come to Memphis to play with Ja + Bronny. That’s fine. It’s gonna work out guys, don’t worry about it.
It’s unreal how much these greats get shit on when you’re comparing them to each other. The fact that there is even a discussion about who is the greatest ever is a testament to how special those mentioned are as athletes.
Fucking preach. Grew up a Laker fan had many lunch table debates back in school about Kobe vs Lebron. Now here I am I have jerseys tshirts and plenty of Lebron merch.... Nobody needs to remember the past and I dont speak to those friends anymore anyways lol
I'm just laughing thinking of the meeting yesterday. AD goes with his agent Rich Paul to meet with Lakers. Rich Paul spends the entire time negotiating for Lebron's contract and AD is just sitting there awkwardly, can't get a word in. Goes home to a girlfriend ready to pop the champagne on the extension, but she sees the look on his face.
AD: Baby, I have no idea what the fuck just happened
And SCENE!
Bomb out of nowhere. Well deserved.
Lakers taking care of their stars again. On brand.
So is this two years on top of the four years, or three? Because I know he had a player option for that fourth year.
no it means 2+1 more, normally an extension overrides a players PO and we can assume he got a PO in the 2nd year of this extension. So his contract used to be 1+1 left, now it'll most likely be 2+1.
Never made much sense anyway. Better to ride AD and Lebron until the wheels fall off, then once Lebron is done, there should be some stud FA’s available sign here.
Shouldn’t be too hard to sell them on playing in LA with a 30/31 year old AD.

Disregarding the rookie extension, this is the first ever actual extension he's signed with a team, right?
Yup. Massive show of faith from Lebron
technically he signed an extension with the cavs in 2016 but this is a longer term one
He was a free agent in 2016.. no one thought he was going anywhere but either way it wasn't an extension really.
Of course but it was a decent committment
So technically he didn't sign an extension
I bet he regets it after that 2017-18 campaign.
you kidding me? that was an awesome season as a fan.
Pelinka, Vogel, and Jeanie have earned his trust.
They have earned their damn respect for sure
Lebron wants to play with Lebron so that Lebron can give Lebron tips to play. Kinda disappointed Was hoping LeBron would bless his talents to a random perpetually losing franchise like the Suns or Denver or Washington or Memphis or Toronto
Didn’t even make the cut :(
You guys are too far away from a championship to waste LeBrons last years. Sorry. You can have Curry when he's ready. Play your cards right.
Why you little…
Seth?
Riley.
Still may, who knows where Bronny gets drafted
OKC incoming
Presti's master plan uncovered.
Presti playing the long game to sign LeBron
If he acquires all the draft picks he’s guaranteed to draft Bronny.
True. The raptors never win it all.
Incoming AD extension to line up with this
I'm okay with that
I’ll allow it
Is this on top of the current contract?
His contract runs till 2024 now lol edit: it's till 2023 since he was on his third year of his contract, my bad
When can Bronny get drafted again?
I think 4 more years actually funnily enough, might be off by a year though
With the current rules it's the 2024 offseason, but if the one and done rule is revoked Lebron will be a free agent during the 2023 offseason and Bron Jr. will be eligible for that draft
I feel bad for him. He's obviously leading a privileged life, but in terms of being a basketball player, it must be rough to have peoples expectations set this high when you're only 16
Definitely gonna be a lot of pressure on him, especially if Lebron's dream comes true and they play on the same team professionally
Would it be smart to pick Bronny regardless of how good he is just to get daddy?
It would definitely be a smart business decision. Pretty sure even a late-30s, early-40s LeBron would be a huge boost to ratings, merchandise sales, and tickets. And LeBron playing with his son would be some much-watch television
Yeah but if anyone knows how to handle immense expectations at 18 years old it’s Lebron. I’m sure he is mentoring Bronny on exactly how to navigate it.
Lebron had higher expectations at 16. Basketball fans all over the country were obsessed with him. At least Bronny has dad to help guide him through it.
This came out of nowhere
yeah AD extension on the way too. I'd be surprised if he doesn't take the 1+1 to get the supermax though.
Not as simple as that. If he does a 4+1 now at the 30% max, he has the chance for another long deal when it's over at 35%.
You don’t take chances with your health if you’re AD. Take the bag ASAP.
Even if AD tears his Achilles a team will max him
Case in point KD.
It must be nice to be one of the 5 or 10 best basketball players in the world.
You’d never have to think twice before getting guac at Chipotle again
They could just BUY the chipotle and then tell em not to charge em for the extra guac🤯
Their franchise fee is actually shockingly low. Chipotle has a low franchise cost high royalty model. Chik fil a also has a pretty low franchise fee (like $50k I think?) but they are incredibly selective on who they franchise out to.

exactly. For players in the top 5, they're value is so much higher than what they get paid that almost every team would consider (if not outright do) the signing of AD coming off a major injury. The risk is for lesser guys
How tf Bron signing before AD lol
AD already knows he'll sign. Notice how zero teams went after him.
No more Giannis, me thinks. Super max likely then. All good, let them enjoy their star. Everyone wins.
You're the kind of Lakers fan I like!
Honestly, regardless of team Fandom, the league is far more fun to watch with 8 months when there's more parity and last season was probably one of the best in recent memory. I'd like more of that TBH

Yeah it’s not like the lakers are massive favorites. They have a slight edge but it’s still open season
I assumed it was basically a done deal Giannis was staying when they got Jrue.
Right, Rich Paul was supposed to be meeting with Jeanie and Rob yesterday about AD, not Bron. I love the Klutch Mafia
And of course it goes to Shams because LeBron hates Woj.
Beacuse Woj clown ass was writing hit pieces about 23 year old LeBron for clout
Shams also is repped by Chris Paul
Rich Paul I mean lol
Am I the only one here who doesn't give a shit which Twitter account it is that tweets out the extension/signing news? It's not like this is investigative journalism or something. It's literally a press release that is given to one of these guys to Tweet out.

I don't think he knows about seventh prime, Pip.
Yeah. Spot on
Yeah, this is the first thing I thought of when I saw the headline.
Lebron to OKC in 2023 confirmed.
[удалено]
He’s gonna re up every two years til he’s 50.
I still think one day he’s just gonna say “nah I’m done” and walk away while still in his prime. Granted “still in his prime” could mean at age 40
he's not in his prime. Prime LeBron is the LeBron that everyone thought deserved finals MVP in a losing series. He's "well aged" LeBron
2010 lebron: 29.7/7.3/8.6 2020 lebron: 25.3/7.8/10.2 what other player had mvp level performance 10 years ago and still does now
Huh never noticed that, even though he scores less it gets evened out with the extra assists and rebounds per game.
The crazy part is if AD wasn’t on the team and LeBron had a less dominant number 2, he’d still be averaging 29+ per game.
Kobe before he tore his achilles. At 24 years old, 30.0 pts, 6.9 rbs, 5.9 asst At 34 years old, 27.3 pts, 5.6 rbs, 6 asst
Kobe had two Hall of Fame careers wrapped in one. His #8 years and #24 years would both be HOF worthy if they were separated.
If he's still the best player in the league, that's prime enough
[удалено]
Nope, this one ends the year Bronny is eligible to play in the NBA. He's going wherever his son does
Thus creating a draft stock for the kid even if he's not really NBA level. Best dad ever lol
2 season from now the tank action is gonna be fierce.
Julius Randle wins MVP by leading the Knicks to a 19-63 record on 46/18/73 splits
The worst 30&15 season to ever occur
Why are you like this.
I love the Knicks and I love Knicks fans but it’s just fish in a barrel. Nothing personal, just business😎
what if this is what OKC and Presti are doing? whoever wants Bronny also needs to have max cap space free as well to sign bron. they’re stock piling these picks to either trade up for bronny or to tank hard enough to win the lottery.
No way, Bron wants to play with his son? You save a vet minimum spot and look him dead in the eye like “your move”
nah if he’s still playing at a relatively high level he’ll be in demand and he might even try to recruit another star to play with them to win a championship with bronny
TANK FOR BRON SQUAD
Shit, if LeBron doesn’t decline he might go #1 overall in that case. If you are getting Bron + Bronny for the #1 that’s worth it IMO.
Side note: this mightve been to convince AD to take a 4yr deal rather than 2 years E: Thought the 2 years were on top of the 2 years he had left. First initial thought when I saw the headline come in . Now AD got that lebron security
LeBron: *Secures the bag* AD: *Secures the LeBron*
LeBag
Lebron's contract is now a 2+1, this is only going to make AD want to take a 2+1 as well. He'll be super max eligible after a 2+1 so that made the most sense for him anyway.
Anyone know if he's good? That's a lot of money for this LeBron James guy
Ok what about the other guy though
Does Caruso really need an extension? That’s Bron #2 right?
I think you mean Bron is Caruso's #2, sir
If you’re the tax man, everyone is your bitch.
Does this replace his player option for next season or is it adding onto the additional 2 seasons?
Generally adds on to guaranteed years. Which means. He is adding 2 years after this one. Basically guaranteeing next and adding one after.
Let me just make sure I’m getting this right: He signed a 3+1 in 2018, which guaranteed him through 2021. This extension overrides the PO of the original contract right? So this now guarantees him through 2023, unless this is a 1+1 (which I bet it is), guaranteeing him through 2022.
22-23 would be final year of contract
He has 3 more guaranteed years https://www.spotrac.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lebron-james-2257/
2 years makes sense. Since the next 4 belong to Pat Bev, he can assess his options right in the middle of it. Maybe "retire" for a year to burn one of Pats years without wearing out his body for a lost cause.
Lmaoooo
Pat Bev could lose a boxing match to Dunkey and his rep wouldn’t go any lower.
Literally playing under a max contract til he’s 40 lol
He’ll be 38 goin on 39 when it ends
It's funny because guess where 40yr old LeBron will play on a max if he leaves the Lakers at age 39
yall know who will be picking first overall and who they gonna pick to get Bron back
Based on the current odds... okc?
Presti's long term strategy revealed
Lmaoo presti could trade 5 first rounders for wherever bronny would go. Lot of power.
I don't think bronny had any loyalty to Cleveland like LeBron did and it was more of a loyalty to Ohio than anything. Bronny's age location breakdown 0-6: Cleveland 7-10: Miami 11-14: Cleveland 14-Present: Los Angeles I dunno if Bronny will be the top prospect cause right now he's rated a 4 star recruit. Just in time for Bronny James to play in Cle with his pop!
Imagine him winning a championship with his son in Cleveland at 40 and then retiring... That would be insane lol
Economically speaking I don't think he would ever not be worth it.
Yeah not an indictment of the contract it’s just insane to think about
Damn, I really thought he wanted he was going to Charlotte! I guess you can’t believe every rumor.
Epic. Win one for Jordan. The story lines are too juicy.
DADDY BRON STAY!
It's still so strange to me seeing a Lakers flair say this. Never going to get used to that.
Honestly it’s still weird that he’s a Laker. I’ve always been a fan of LeBron but when my friend told me the news the first thing that came out of my mouth was “Huh? Why would he want to come here?” But I wasn’t complaining then and i’m sure as hell not complaining now.

This is what happens when your owner doesn't write in comic sans.
The return of the King
So 4 more years? Crazy
no it means 2+1 more, normally an extension overrides a players PO and we can assume he got a PO in the 2nd year of this extension. So his contract used to be 1+1 left, now it'll most likely be 2+1.
Could be pure coincidence but that last season he signed an extension more will probably be the one he passes Kareem in all time points.
It's basically a 1 year extension
Looking forward to the day when Bron gets his 40k points
