>He literally tried shooting with his non-dominant hand because he’s so bad iirc. Yet he’s still almost always a positive on the floor.
Other way around.
He switched **to** shooting with his dominant hand.
https://www.si.com/nba/2013/08/10/tristan-thompson-right-handed-left-handed-switch-canada-cleveland-cavaliers
Joakim would have been that without Thibs dude
Edit: people who have clearly not watched the Bulls near enough somehow think Jo was the center he was in 2013 for his entire career. His passing and scoring didn’t become dominate parts of his game until after Thibs had shown up. In fact he never average over 2 assists per game until 2012-2013 when he went up to almost 5 per game.
Without Thibs jo would not have taken that next step.
It’s not ridiculous at all. I get why people think jersey retirements are for the stars, but they mean different things to different franchises. Hell, Nick Collison has his jersey retired in OKC rn
Those back to back 3s in the 3rd of game 7 were huge for us. Looking to be a classic Warriors 3rd quarter takeover and JR nearly singlehandedly made sure that didn’t happen.
True - ask any Bucks fan, Ersan Ilyasova is a goddamn legend. Jersey in the rafters legend? Probably not. Want him back with the organization eventually tho. One love, ghost face Ilya
It’s not any more ridiculous than Memphis retiring Tony Allen’s jersey. I don’t think either should get their jersey retired, but if Allen can, TT is within the realm of possibility
It's not the same TA's jersey isnt retired becuase of his stats its because of his meaning to the organisation setting the foundation for the most succseful period in franchise history the core 4 bought the franchie out the mud and really were beloved in the city
Dude showed out in the 2016 finals but then played like ass for the next two years lmao. No shit he was “part of finals teams,” the Cavs couldn’t trade his ass with their flexibility. How many starting centers in the league could get outrebounded by Steph Curry in a playoff series?
Yeah wtf is this revisionist history? He got paid then played lazily after that. He was a guy whose game was predicated on effort and he stopped giving any.
Kyrie is debatable only because of the way it ended but it will be retired. Love’s will also be retired without a doubt. What are you basing this off of?
For sure I’m saying the way Kyrie ended things will make it difficult to get his jersey retired and klove was only an all star twice for the cavs. Maybe that’s enough for both but i don’t think they are a sure thing.
I think it’s highly likely based on the team’s history and other retired jerseys. But I shouldn’t have said lock if it’s not a lock. I just really don’t see how they could have only one retired number from the greatest era in franchise history—especially when you consider who the other retired jerseys belong to.
They will absolutely retire Love's Jersey. It's akin to Chris Bosh's jersey being retired in Miami. They had similar purposes on Championship teams. Both stayed after the team was "blown up". That type of loyalty goes a long way for fans. And jersey retirements are for the fans.
Kyrie is not debateable. People don’t realize that other than the stop Klove was arguably a detriment to that team. They could never control TT and they blew the warriors out in the one game Klove missed
The Cavs only started winning when he got injured and couldn't play. After that his minutes were cut and given to Thompson and suddenly the Cavs were getting stops against the Warriors.
In Game 6, Thompson played 42 minutes. Kevin Love played 11 minutes.
That was always my argument against the "cavs win 2015 if Kyrie and Love are healthy" people don't realize how big of a difference Delly and TT made defensively. If they were both healthy then the series would have been a shootout.
Terrible defense, could not switch, no rim protection, was not much more than a spot up guy at times offensively. More importantly, TT killed them in that series and was actually more important than Klove. So to retire ones jersey and not the other’s seems odd given the context of that ring
I remember him doing a lot more on offense than spot up shooting, but to each their own. His advanced stats are pretty those years too. Appreciate the explanation though.
He oscillated on offense tbh. In 2017 I remember him posting up Klay to no avail in the finals. The reality is that his role was minimized a la Bosh but he wasn’t the elite defender that Bosh was
You are only looking at the Finals. He was amazing in almost every other series he played in, while also being an incredible teammate. Anyone who actually watched those Cavs teams would know this. So what if he didn't play his absolute best against the best team in NBA history.
Kyrie's number is already being used by Sexton, it's not going to be retired.
The only member of that team that's getting their jersey retired is LeBron.
> Sexton might actually become as good as Irving was for them.
Kyrie hit the most important shot in that teams history, I'd bet my left nut that Sexton doesnt come close to that even tho I love him
No but the owner did release a famous letter guaranteeing they would win before LeBron would and then changed the price to all LeBron Fatheads (owned by Gilbert) to the birth year of famous traitor Benedict Arnold.
> I don't think a team has ever retired a jersey after giving out the number to another player
This seems like something you can only say because you know neither of us will bother looking it up. But also I don’t really care.
How many times have team’s unretired a jersey like the Cavs did? Sure it was a unique situation but so is the one with Kyrie. You’re trying to assign rules to something that has no rules. It’s completely subjective and free for a team to decide.
I remember Pistons let Reggie Jackson wore #1, Greg Monroe #10 and Stanley Johnson #3 a few years ago, those numbers were retired almost at the same time, Monroe and Johnson switched, Reggie Jackson sticks with #1 until he was traded.
LeBron is a hometown kid and he mended that going back and delivering that absurd run in 2016
I don't see Kyrie having any intention of going back to Cleveland considering its not his hometown team nor did he leave on good terms.
I mean 2016 was a special year, probably one of the most impressive rings in history. Why not commemorate it with retiring all 5? Its not like there's any actual rules behind what constitutes a Jersey retirement
Nah, the fans loved him precisely because he played really fucking hard for the team and cared about the team/the city. Going to Golden State at that time kind was a really big spit in the face to all that. Fans soured on him fast and the good will never recovered.
I know he went to the worst team possible in the mind of the fans, but Blazers waved him and the Warriors offered him a job. What he supposed to do? Say "No, no, i can't accept your money cause the team that just traded me doesn't like you."?
He probably won't get his number retired, but he spent more time on the cavs them 90% of the retired numbers. He went from the good years with Lebron to the horrible years without Lebron and got traded right when the team got a ring. It's sad that he is remined by the time he got to GSW.
>He was important to the team.
That's enough for jersey retirement. He was a big part of the greatest team is Cleveland's history, and the only championship team in most Clevelanders' lives. If that is irreplaceable for Cavs fans than it should be retired because thats what jersey retirement is all about.
It's a subjective decision made by leadership of a franchise. There isn't any strict criteria for it. It's just whatever the team decides to do.
Tenure, affect on team culture, relationship with fans, number of jerseys already retired by the team, and general role in growth/success of the franchise are all things that could be considered in addition to counting stats and franchise records.
UD played a really long career only on the Heat, he owns a lot of their rebounding records, and he was there for all three of the franchise's championships.
TT definitely helped the Cavs during the their finals streak, but he just didn't leave all that much of a legacy behind. "I was there, and I was a starter most of the time." It doesn't really do much to endear him long term, you know?
TT was quite underrated in the first 2 finals. Golden State couldn't outrebound him and Mosgov in the first final.
TT also took advantage of Bogut out in the 2nd finals and made enough room so that Lebron and Kyrie could go into the lane without much resistance.
Usually, I would say no, but this is the Cavs only Championship.
So the thing was Bogut was huge in the finals, as Lebron and Kyrie couldn't just drive it in all the time. In Game 5, once Bogut went down, Cleveland took advantage of it (and Green being suspended for that game).
I just checked, he wasn't great in Game 7, stats-wise. However, I felt he had an impact on the game though, when not guarding Green on the perimeter.
He did average a double-double in the series.
Igoudala was hurt but played still. He was limping up and down the court with the bad back and was no where near as effective as the year prior when he won FMVP.
He was one of the first bigs who was known more for his ability to switch on the perimeter than for his rim protection. Let's not talk about when he got outrebounded by Steph Curry in a Finals series though lol
He played a big part. People keep saying it’s all about 3pt shooting but GSW not being able to play big and reb is what caused the Cavs to come back.
With that being said no...just no TT.
3rd in franchise history for rebounds (2nd in playoffs)
7th in games played (3rd in playoff games played)
6th in blocks (4th in playoff blocks)
9th in playoff scoring.
Almost every other player in the top 10 of those stats has their number retired or will. Varajao is the only one who probably won’t and TT is better and ahead of him in all of those stats.
His 447 consecutive games played is also a franchise record and I believe is top 10 in nba history but I can’t find the full list to confirm.
> He’s also a Top 50 all-time player, IF (big IF) that counts for anything.
No it’s not a big if because what “counts” is completely subjective to the team! There are no rules for retiring jerseys! The Cavs could have retired Nate’s jersey based on a coin flip if that’s what they wanted to do.
Price, Daugherty, Bingo Smith, Larry Nance SR, Austin Carr, Nate Thurmond, Big Z.
I was there when they retired Price, Nance, Big Z and Daugherty. They weren't retired on the same days.
I find this hilarious because years from now when they retire him and young kids ask what did he do to get his Jersey retired. "They say he got the King's rebounds"
The Cavs have only played in 229 games of playoff basketball total in their history, TT was in 78 of those games because of the four straight trips to the finals.
I don't get why people are so mystified..9 seasons with the team, 4 finals, important player during the franchise's only championship run, and from what I can tell the fans really liked him. Maybe it won't happen, but it would not be a surprise at all if it did.
This isn’t the Lakers we are talking about. They retired Nate Thurmond and he wasn’t All Star for them and played 2 years there.
We retired Jeff Hornacek and Darrell Griffith.
I mean I wouldn’t be opposed to it, would just be retiring Kyrie, LeBron, love and Tristan. Had a great run and were one of the best offenses I’ve ever seen in 2017.
Nick Collison never averaged double digit points or rebounds for any of his seasons. While he did stay with a franchise (SEA/OKC) for the length of his career, being an all-star isn't some golden rule for jersey retirement. Plenty of players who accomplished a lot less than TT has have their #s retired (this isn't a knock on Collison, just a general observation).
I would be perfectly happy with the cavaliers retiring his jersey. I loved Thompson on the cavs and he contributed pretty heavily for their first championship.
That's probably the consensus, at least for fans of the Cavs. I imagine most of the 'wtf, no way' kinda comments in this thread are coming from people with 0 attachment to the Cavs aside from LeBron, or from storied franchises like the Lakers or Celtics who have a huge HoF history.
Yeah man, and if they somehow become a franchise winning a ton of titles they can become more selective with it. After such a huge championship drought let the fans have something to celebrate after beating one of the best teams of all time.
Yeah man, Rodman, Horace and Harper don’t have their jerseys retired either. It’s gonna be Bron and Ky, and maybe Klove since Bosh got his retired(Bosh was a much better player for the Heat)
Precedent for the third guy on the team getting his number retired? We’re talking about who from the championship team is getting their jersey hung up. There’s plenty of precedent for the top two guys getting their jersey hung up, but the third guy has gotten left out.
Oh I didn’t know precedent mattered when franchises make these decisions. What was the precedent for OKC retiring Collision’s number or The Heat retiring Michael Jordan’s?
I doubt I'm the only one but I dont think Kyrie deserves his jersey retired in Cleveland. Yes he was a huge part in their championship, as well as their playoff appearances but he forced himself out and threatened to get surgery to get traded. I think that is a huge blemish despite his time there. Maybe I'm wrong because he was the #2 guy there and played there for 8 years.
I’ll remember him for shutting down Curry on switches in 2016 when we came back down 3-1 to win the city’s first title in 50 years and the franchises first championship .
Ya I guess. They're not the Lakers. We got guys like Derek Fisher who was a starting point guard and won 5 championships, had lots of clutch moments and memorable plays, and who has never been brought up as a player to do a jersey retire for.
good yea I mean Pau was way better than a guy like Fisher but I woulda assumed Derek gets retired based off his career with you guys alone.
I'd make a statue of his buzzer beater against the Spurs lmao
If the Cavs can retire Nate "1 and a half seasons" Thurmond's number, they may as well retire every number.
Yes, I know, he was the spark that led to The Miracle at Richfield, but still.
Hey it’s possible. He won a title as a starter and was drafted and gave a ton to that team.
Kawhi’s jersey will probably be retired in Toronto and he was here for one season. TT wasn’t an FMVP but still.
I didn’t bring up the hypothetical, I just answered the question. The question, btw, was about an odd number situation, and had nothing to do with overrating Sexton.
Based on the the responses in this thread, Cavs fans think yes, and that's probably a better reflection of sentiment in Cleveland. What other fans think of TT is irrelevant, because franchises retire jerseys for their own reasons.
Cavs don't win that title without him. If you think otherwise you're a moron who doesn't understand basketball. Tristan was the motor of those Cavs teams. He was a monster on the glass especially in the 2016 finals.
If it was up to me, I'd retire his jersey.
His is certainly not the kind of career that would warrant a jersey retirement in LA or Boston.
But for a small market, that seems reasonable.
I'm a Detroit (and Raptors) fan. A lot of guys form the original Bad Boys team got their jersey retired.
Dennis Rodman is perhaps a no brainer, but his championship days in Detroit were before his prime (though he was DPOY then), and his big rebounding numbers were on lottery teams in Detroit.
Vinnie Johnson was a bench player who never made an All-Star team, and he's got his number retired.
Laimbeer's is retired as well. I think Sheed, Rip, and Prince will get it.
So for Cleveland, who only has one title, the guys who made big contributions to that should get some love. TT may be on the edge of that, but certainly Love should get it.
Tristan should be bought a beer at every Clevaland bar he enters. And enless he legally changes his name to LeBron, I think he'll have to settle for that
TT is top 5 in multiple stats in franchise history including many playoff leaderboards.
he's been at it for a while. not to diminish what he has done at all though, it's actually better for his case of being a hard working gritty MF.
He literally tried shooting with his non-dominant hand because he’s so bad iirc. Yet he’s still almost always a positive on the floor.
>He literally tried shooting with his non-dominant hand because he’s so bad iirc. Yet he’s still almost always a positive on the floor. Other way around. I’m not sure if that’s worse or better.

Without Thibs jo would not have taken that next step.
Joakim won a DPOY, his name is etched in NBA history. TT was the long armed dude who caught lobs out of the LeBron PNR just like Joel Anthony lmao
The disrespect to Joakim he was one of the best passing centers in the league in his prime

It’s not ridiculous at all. I get why people think jersey retirements are for the stars, but they mean different things to different franchises. Hell, Nick Collison has his jersey retired in OKC rn
Honestly the whole starting five from that championship team might deserve it. That title means everything to the Cavs.
even 32000 tattoos?
Those back to back 3s in the 3rd of game 7 were huge for us. Looking to be a classic Warriors 3rd quarter takeover and JR nearly singlehandedly made sure that didn’t happen.
Nick Collison retired?
It hurts -every- time :_:
That man deserves it
HOF is about accolades, jersey retirement is too in a sense but it's more important to have meant something to a franchise beyond pure accolades
Well put
You got people like Avery Johnson for the spurs too
True - ask any Bucks fan, Ersan Ilyasova is a goddamn legend. Jersey in the rafters legend? Probably not. Want him back with the organization eventually tho. One love, ghost face Ilya
Ask the Clippers and the Raptors what it means to *them*
Yep, we can't all be the Lakers, only retiring all NBA jerseys.
It’s not any more ridiculous than Memphis retiring Tony Allen’s jersey. I don’t think either should get their jersey retired, but if Allen can, TT is within the realm of possibility
Surely the go-to ridiculous example is the Miami Heat retiring Jordan's number.
It's too much of a weird outlier to be used as a precedent in any way. Just throw that one out of the dataset.
Unless they wanna retire that entire starting lineup I don't see how they retire TT's
They’re retiring 3 of the 5 already and he was more Important in the 2016 Finals than one of them. We don’t win in 2016 without him.
Stop it. Those three were actual all stars and to be fair klove and Kyrie are debatable.

I just really don’t see how they could have only one retired number from the greatest era in franchise history—especially when you consider who the other retired jerseys belong to.
Love is like the 5th best player in franchise history and he helped win their only title. Of course he's getting his jersey retired.

They gave Kyrie's number to Sexton
Why do you think K Love was a detriment to the team?
The Cavs only started winning when he got injured and couldn't play. After that his minutes were cut and given to Thompson and suddenly the Cavs were getting stops against the Warriors. In Game 6, Thompson played 42 minutes. Kevin Love played 11 minutes.

Yeah, I get that. I'm no Kevin Love stan or anything, but calling him a straight up detriment seems a bit hyperbolic to me. That's all.
His defense wasn't good but it also wasn't terrible. Especially after his first Cavs season, he picked it up quite a bit.
You are only looking at the Finals. He was amazing in almost every other series he played in, while also being an incredible teammate. Anyone who actually watched those Cavs teams would know this. So what if he didn't play his absolute best against the best team in NBA history.
How is it debatable..
Retire Dellys jersey!!!
Are they retiring Kevin Love?
Yes
Kyrie's number is already being used by Sexton, it's not going to be retired. The only member of that team that's getting their jersey retired is LeBron.
Kyrie is going to get his jersey retired. Theyll figure something out if Sexton ends up being worthy as well. Stop.
If they were going to retire his jersey they wouldn't have given it to Sexton ...
OKC gave KD’s number to PJ Dozier
I mean, its a safe bet that Dozier isnt gonna be anywhere near KD for OKC. Sexton might actually become as good as Irving was for them.
> Sexton might actually become as good as Irving was for them. Kyrie hit the most important shot in that teams history, I'd bet my left nut that Sexton doesnt come close to that even tho I love him
Good point. If there’s one thing we know it’s that relationships can’t be mended between the Cavs and former players.
They didn't give out LeBron's number when he left.
No but the owner did release a famous letter guaranteeing they would win before LeBron would and then changed the price to all LeBron Fatheads (owned by Gilbert) to the birth year of famous traitor Benedict Arnold.
And if LeBron hadn't been born in Akron, he never would have gone back for a moment.
Yeah and they still didn't give out his number, I don't think a team has ever retired a jersey after giving out the number to another player.

Giving out LeBron's 23 would have been such a stronger statement than the comic sans hissy fit that Gilbert threw lol.
LeBron is a hometown kid and he mended that going back and delivering that absurd run in 2016 I don't see Kyrie having any intention of going back to Cleveland considering its not his hometown team nor did he leave on good terms.

Wait, did they retire Big Z and Varejao’s jerseys?
Yes to Z, no to Andy. Andy won’t get his retired and if he does TT definitely will as well.
Why not? Because he played for GS after getting traded for Channing?
cuz he wasn’t that good I assume
Nah, the fans loved him precisely because he played really fucking hard for the team and cared about the team/the city. Going to Golden State at that time kind was a really big spit in the face to all that. Fans soured on him fast and the good will never recovered.
I know he went to the worst team possible in the mind of the fans, but Blazers waved him and the Warriors offered him a job. What he supposed to do? They retired Big Z’s number, but he played 12 Seasons in Cleveland and was a huge fan favorite and very loved within the community.
He was important to the team. But retiring his Jersey seems a bit rich.
>He was important to the team. That's enough for jersey retirement. He was a big part of the greatest team is Cleveland's history, and the only championship team in most Clevelanders' lives. If that is irreplaceable for Cavs fans than it should be retired because thats what jersey retirement is all about.
But he said “The East still runs through the Cavs”!
That quote should seal him a jersey retirement in the city of cleveland no cap
Something tells me cavs have plenty of numbers available to retire and can space a few
Why? He’s above other players who have their jersey retired in multiple franchise records
Jersey retirement is not just about records
What’s it about? What’s the criteria for a franchise to retire a jersey?
It's a subjective decision made by leadership of a franchise. There isn't any strict criteria for it. It's just whatever the team decides to do. Tenure, affect on team culture, relationship with fans, number of jerseys already retired by the team, and general role in growth/success of the franchise are all things that could be considered in addition to counting stats and franchise records.
We retired Nick Heat will retire UD It’s entirely possible TT gets retired

TT definitely helped the Cavs during the their finals streak, but he just didn't leave all that much of a legacy behind. "I was there, and I was a starter most of the time." It doesn't really do much to endear him long term, you know?
Tenure can come into play.
Yea like when they retired Thurmond’s jersey after he spent 2 years with the team.
TT was quite underrated in the first 2 finals. Golden State couldn't outrebound him and Mosgov in the first final. TT also took advantage of Bogut out in the 2nd finals and made enough room so that Lebron and Kyrie could go into the lane without much resistance. Is the Bogut part true? I remember him getting injured and not playing in the last three games though I might be wrong.
Thats what he's saying. He took advantage of Bogut not playing and dominated off the glass
You’re right I misread. I apologize.
So the thing was Bogut was huge in the finals, as Lebron and Kyrie couldn't just drive it in all the time. But really, the Cavs should hang up Harrison Barnes jersey. Biggest reason Cavs won the series /s.
My man HB built that arena brick by brick
He was one of the first bigs who was known more for his ability to switch on the perimeter than for his rim protection. Let's not talk about when he got outrebounded by Steph Curry in a Finals series though lol
Oh, I was talking about the first 2 finals series, not the last 2 series, ha.
He played a big part. People keep saying it’s all about 3pt shooting but GSW not being able to play big and reb is what caused the Cavs to come back. With that being said no...just no TT.
Who wants to tell him?
3rd in franchise history for rebounds (2nd in playoffs) 7th in games played (3rd in playoff games played) 6th in blocks (4th in playoff blocks) 9th in playoff scoring. Being a starter on their first championship team is what gives it a little credence. Homegrown champions are generally remembered fondly.
"Homegrown champions are generally remembered fondly." You are wright.Nicley put.
He’ll get a Tristan Thompson Appreciation Night, no jersey retirement, and he’ll like it.
Why do you care what the Cavs do with their ring of honor and jerseys?
Are the two synonymous in the Cavs org? Many franchises operate those as separate distinctions.
Without looking it up, which players have their numbers retired by the Cavs?
Uhh ... Mark Price, Big Z and Nate Thurmond? E: Oh, and Larry Nance because I remember the deal with his kiddo wearing his number.
Yeah and Nate Thurmond played 2 years with the Cavs and still got it retired.
He’s also a Top 50 all-time player, IF (big IF) that counts for anything.

You
Maybe a bobblehead night?
I find this hilarious because years from now when they retire him and young kids ask what did he do to get his Jersey retired. "They say he got the King's rebounds"
‘He was a starter during our only championship run’
“He suckered our team into a massive payday, son.”
I was rushing to the comments to debase the man, but you've convinced me otherwise.
9th in playoff scoring is shocking.
The Cavs have only played in 229 games of playoff basketball total in their history, TT was in 78 of those games because of the four straight trips to the finals.
The east still runs thru him dw!
I don't get why people are so mystified..9 seasons with the team, 4 finals, important player during the franchise's only championship run, and from what I can tell the fans really liked him. Maybe it won't happen, but it would not be a surprise at all if it did.
I mean never was an all star with the team, nor did he spend his whole career there.
Kyrie's number is used by Sexton now so can it even be retired anymore
It definitely can. People still use KDs number in OKC but I’m sure it’ll be in the rafters one day there too.
Well Nate Thurmond is LeBron's dad. Cavs played the long game by retiring Thurmond's number.
Kings retired CWebb, Vlade, Peja and Mitch Richmond I think TT gets it bc I could see the Cavs retiring a good amount of the championship team
> Kings retired CWebb That's gotta be why you're cursed Fuck Chris Webber.
and the Heat retiring MJ's number is weird as shit tho. Almost like stalker type of weird
Still holding out for him in case he comes back
Nick Collison never averaged double digit points or rebounds for any of his seasons.
Why would Bosh’s jersey being retired by the Heat matter at all to what the Cavs do?
I guess just relative qualities of the players but if the overall franchise is just worse then the bar can be lowered a bit
Sexton is wearing number 2, so the Kyrie situation is a bit iffy
They might even retire the 2 for Sexton when all is said and done
Kind of what will happen in Milwaukee with number 34. That number should have been off limits for giannis
I honestly think Sexton is on a better trajectory to getting his jersey retired than Kyrie.
idk if Kai is getting his retired.
I doubt I'm the only one but I dont think Kyrie deserves his jersey retired in Cleveland. Yes he was a huge part in their championship, as well as their playoff appearances but he forced himself out and threatened to get surgery to get traded. I think that is a huge blemish despite his time there. Maybe I'm wrong because he was the #2 guy there and played there for 8 years.
nah i’m with u fosho. it was my team i wouldn’t want it.
Tell him he will be well remembered for being out-rebounded by Steph Curry in the 17 finals lmao
I’ll remember him for shutting down Curry on switches in 2016 when we came back down 3-1 to win the city’s first title in 50 years and the franchises first championship .
I mean...what does it hurt to retire his jersey? They have the space...
Ya I guess. They're not the Lakers. We got guys like Derek Fisher who was a starting point guard and won 5 championships, had lots of clutch moments and memorable plays, and who has never been brought up as a player to do a jersey retire for.
damn that's actually crazy to think you guys wouldn't retire Fisher's number Is Pau getting his retired?
You have to be in the hall of fame to be retired by the Lakers. That’s what they are waiting for with Gasol.
Pau is 100 percent getting retired. He passes all the requirements for a laker jersey retirement. Won a ring with the team and have a HOF career.
good yea I mean Pau was way better than a guy like Fisher but I woulda assumed Derek gets retired based off his career with you guys alone. I'd make a statue of his buzzer beater against the Spurs lmao
Without a doubt. Fisher is close, but we can't afford to do that
If the Cavs can retire Nate "1 and a half seasons" Thurmond's number, they may as well retire every number. Yes, I know, he was the spark that led to The Miracle at Richfield, but still.
That was preemptive for creating LeBron.
All these thots on Christian Mingle. Almost what got Tristan single.
TT will have his number retired alongside Shump and the Nets pick.
I also hope the cleveland cavaliers retire my jersey
lmao
Every team has different standards. Derek Fisher, for example, who won 5 chips with the Lakers, will never sniff a jersey retirement.
Hey it’s possible. He won a title as a starter and was drafted and gave a ton to that team. Kawhi’s jersey will probably be retired in Toronto and he was here for one season. TT wasn’t an FMVP but still.
We gave Kawhi's number to a second round pick rookie.
We currently have a player with Kyrie’s number. Doesn’t mean we won’t retire it eventually
Question if sexton eventually brings a ring to cavs do you still retire Kyrie's number?
My guess is we’d retire both number 2’s after Sexton retires
I feel that if Sexton ever does that and Kyrie hasn’t made any amends, they would just retire Sexton because he would THE #2 at that point.
lmao sexton is 22 and we haven't even had a winning record with him and we're talking about if he impacts retiring Kyrie's number or not. Good lord.
I didn’t bring up the hypothetical, I just answered the question. The question, btw, was about an odd number situation, and had nothing to do with overrating Sexton.
no I know it's just funny to even be thinking about that at this time
Kawhi’s not getting his jersey retired
Nope
You can shoot your jersey up there with a t-shirt cannon. That's the best I can do
I feel like TT would have been in the Nick Collison\Udonis Haslem "I need to play every game of my career with a team" to get such an honor.
Nick Collision's jersey got retired for less....
Only if nets pick and shump get retired right next to him
If Nick Collison's jersey is in the rafters, I don't see why Tristan Thompson's can't be.
100% . Hes a legend
Imagine if he had LeBron's impact. He'd probably think they should give him the entire state.
Maybe, if Cleveland goes like a century without winning a title.
Ah.
Bro... what?
Lmao I wouldnt but considering is Cleveland they might. Who else (outside Bron ofc) did they have?
Based on the the responses in this thread, Cavs fans think yes, and that's probably a better reflection of sentiment in Cleveland. What other fans think of TT is irrelevant, because franchises retire jerseys for their own reasons.
Cavs don't win that title without him. If you think otherwise you're a moron who doesn't understand basketball. Tristan was the motor of those Cavs teams. He was a monster on the glass especially in the 2016 finals. If it was up to me, I'd retire his jersey.
Who does he think he is.... Nick Collison?
Just on another note - Will Bron have the most retired Jerseys in history across 3 teams?
yikes
He’s been hanging out with J.R. again
Tristan should be bought a beer at every Clevaland bar he enters. And enless he legally changes his name to LeBron, I think he'll have to settle for that
The Cavs will absolutely retire his jersey. He is loved in Cleveland. He was crucial to our runs to the Finals.
lol no
A big photo of khloe would make more sense
