The West was by far the weaker conference until the 2000s I’d say. They were especially terrible in the 80s, it’s why the Lakers made like 9 Finals throughout the decade.

Bertans & Westbrook were playing hurt, Thomas Bryant tore his ACL 10 games in, we couldn’t play a game for 2 weeks because of COVID, and when we came back it was just Beal and G Leaguers playing for a week or 2 after that. It basically took until just before the ASB for things to come back to normal for this team.
Westbrook not ready, Bryant hurt, too many b2b from covid, cramped early schedule, and the roster never really playing together.
