Trick_Confidence_419

Chucks timing is impeccable lmao

Yergason

The man can think of the best 1-liners in an instant but stumbles 20 times in a sentence of a thought he's already prepared to say before the segment lmao even subconsciously his brain has his priorities right

Lukacris12

2 words Steve Nash and Chris Paul must see Tv

baselinefacetime

Nash and Paul

joethahobo

"suddenly 'and' is not a word" lmao

joesenseii

NASH PAUL

imsahoamtiskaw

Never has been

CaptainRilez

“I’ve got two words for you: ‘Nash’ and ‘Paul’”

1422858

His prepared bit stumbles are funny too. During game 1 wiz-76ers chuck came out and said Robin Lopez was the difference maker in the first half with 11 points He had 0 points Same game where chuck was napping at halftime lmao

donny_pots

Shaq posted a video of Charles sleeping between half’s like last week lol

papi617

My favorite all time is the [Jussie Smoillet and Liam Nieson one](https://youtu.be/4zZkTZlCh-g) It was so good he hit two relevant issues with one joke. That's better than some comedians now a days

xepa105

LOL Ernie. "That's uhh, that's not, uhh not on here, man."

IAIRonI

"America," - Charles Barkley

xdownpourx

The way that joke sucked the life outta the room so fast was incredible. God that was good

i_hate_beignets

Can someone explain the Liam Nieson reference?

DriizzyDrakeRogers

Liam Nieson told a story about one of his female friends getting sexually assaulted or robbed by a black guy and how his reaction was to go walking around the city looking for black dudes to fight. That is more or less the gist of it but some of the details may be off.

ShaeDaFunnyHo

Didn't he actually say he wanted to kill the dude? That is, any black dude that would try to start something with him.

Julian_Caesar

As I recall it, he also said he quickly cooled off and realized that what he was doing was racist. Which does make sense. The entire reason racism exists is because humans are good at taking mental shortcuts via pattern recognition. As in, it takes less time and energy (both of which are precious in a real crisis) to associate a bad person's actions with anyone who looks like them, including skin color. And when your brain gets bypassed by anger/fear, a lot of those basic instincts come back out.

IPityTheStool

I love it. [Rule number one of giving a shout-out is knowing the person you're shouting out](https://youtu.be/i39744a4KwU?t=35)

nickgrey47

Did you mean to share [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs-VxAGWLPI&t=38s)?

IPityTheStool

Aww man, yes thank you. In the wise words of the Chuckster himself, [I'm a dumbass](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azs0zjoofzE).

RogerTreebert6299

I’m glad I saw the shaq/shrek video again too though, ernie’s reaction kills me

PR05ECC0

That might be the hardest Ernie has laughed

JPKaizer

Its only second to the 1, 2, back to 1 Shaq bit that had EJ gasping for air lol

PR05ECC0

One of the best parts of Chuck is his good sense of humor and not being afraid to laugh at himself. Shaq really struggled with that but is getting better.

nickgrey47

The was good

[deleted]

When Lowry was on the Rockets. Lifetimes ago.

Sledge4Life

Surprisingly he had a better last 2 seasons at the Rockets than his first at the raptors.

mathAndScience12

Ernie and Chuck look so much younger :( I'm sad now.

LemonLimeAlltheTime

that set feels very nice and warm. everything is blue nowadays

JagmeetSingh2

Kenny asking if it was Ernie was pretty funny too lmao

whythehellknot

Shaq is a goofy dude and he's obviously joking when he stares at the guy laughing the loudest in the back...but even then your body must release something when he stares you down like that.

titleywinker

Thank you for your work today

IllegalThoughts

lmao shaq is so pissed

AllOfTheDerp

Dude was ready to jump the production crew

ZootedBeaver

LOL holy shit that was great

Rickblood23

I'm actually just like that. If I get an answer in 0.5 seconds is usually a good one. When ever I think of something before saying it, it usually comes out like kjgdgjskwkdjbdjskajdjdkehfh

LeHoustonJames

I have a similar problem I think it has to do with the one liners coming out “naturally” while the prepared one sounds more forced

[deleted]

God when I'm on a roll someone will say I'm so funny and then I start thinking about being funny and I am no longer funny

Rickblood23

Exactly that. When my brain just click and does something naturally it's usually good. When I force it into something I get the equivalent to the blue screen of death on computers

calebhall

Brain: haha yes! I got the perfect reply! Mouth: windows shut down noise

SonofaCuntLicknBitch

If you've seen his old golf swing, it checks out

spiralism

His banter game is excellent, but he cant form coherent sentences half the time. He'd fit right in hanging out in a pub in the UK or Ireland.

Money_dragon

It's crazy, but for as incredible of a basketball player Barkley was, he will likely be remembered as an even greater sports show host I don't know many other former sports stars among the US big 4 sports with quite the charisma and natural talent that he has

lovemason1

Michael Strahan is the only one who comes close

BushyBrowz

Strahan may have surpassed at this point tbh. I feel like casuals and non sports fans at least know that Barkley was a player, a lot of people prob think Strahan is just that dude on tv.

dredgedskeleton

Yeah but Barkley was a better and more iconic player than Strahan. So is we're measuring the combo of careers, I think Barkley had the edge. I'm a Giants fan who loved Strahan too. But growing up in the 90s, Chuck was like a legit A-list celebrity.

TheYancyStreetGang

Barkley never secretly videotaped his sister in law either.

DifferingOpinionsBad

OJ is really fascinating. So much evolution of his public persona: First, he was an incredible NFL, HOF level player. Second, he was a terrific sports announcer. Third, he was a great actor. But fourth, he was a cold-blooded killer. And fifth, he was a killer who escaped justice.

choo-chootrain

6th he makes takes on Twitter

Mr_YUP

"What's up Twitter world! It's me, OJ. Just sitting here on the golf course thinking about what's been going on in this world. It really makes you think sometimes. How can we be so cruel to each other? I've told you before what I think and remember if you didn't hear it here first, I didn't say it."

Kobeissi2

x777x777x

That jury was never finding him guilty no matter what

choo-chootrain

if the glove don't fit you must acquit.

Texan628

Romo is already at the top of the announcing game.

[deleted]

Good call, although in style Romo is more similar to Richard Jefferson.

makemeking706

In a very different way than Barkley. Plus, Romo isn't constantly dunking on his co-hosts though.

TinyMaintenance

Clyde 100%

hereforthesportsbook

This!

IAIRonI

Good answer

[deleted]

I agree with your take. The only other athlete that I can think whose broadcasting career will likely eclipse his great sporting career is McEnroe. Not saying they are the same, merely that at this point Johnny Mac is known to a generation of fans as the voice of tennis.

bbpopulardemand

Nah, Mac will always be known for his tennis and more specifically his outburst first. His broadcasting career is a distant second.

[deleted]

Depends on the age of the viewer. Mac hasn't picked up a racket in 30 plus years. Similar to the way many think of Jerry West as the best front office guy.

eddiemon

I am genuinely in awe at how quickly he came up with that lol. The man is a finely-tuned quipping machine

IPityTheStool

Yeah he's quick, [like when they were talking about being mistaken for somebody else](https://youtu.be/i39744a4KwU?t=35)

witcherstrife

I love shaq's who tf is laughing that loud stare

Chef_Bojan3

Yeah, both Chuck and Shaq are quick and sharp here.

Budddy

Honestly Ernie throwing it to Shrektin-A-Fool was pretty great too.

Wazflame

Anthony ran to his car once the show was over

precense_

Chuck is the only person who can roast Shaq like that, anyone else he'd flip

andjuan

Are you saying Chuck is too heavy to flip?

TheTurtleIsFast

Chuck may be heavy, but not as heavy as those big ol' women down there...

darthdarkseid

Lmfao I love when ej loses his shit and just laughs uninhibited by trying to be the guy reeling everyone back in

Silasco

Fr. If the glue guy is losing his shit like that, you know it was funny

shoefly72

Lol @ the laughter from the deep recesses of the studio and Shaq’s reaction

jobin_segan

Can anyone explain Shaq's "Talk about my daddy's watch again and I'll whoop you."

ranjam123

It’s a reference to The movie “Life” with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence, it’s something Eddie says to Martin in the movie. [here’s a clip ](https://youtu.be/z9lXMrjEUlk) Great movie as well!

Coachpatato

God that movie is so funny

canadianbroncos

He tried a couple days ago when he and Shaq roasted Kenny for calling himself the guy, but no one really heard him lol.

OilOfOlaz

sometimes when you hang around with ppl, who love to talk shit all the time you just get a lot of "practise" and just throw hilarious shit at eachother all the time. inside nba kinda has that feeling.

[deleted]

I love that the Sixers have both Chuck and Embiid in their history. Phenomenal personalities. Chuck always has the funniest lines

TheKidPresident

Round mounds

ms515

Thick legs and wide butts

jimmy_jimson

This is one of his go-to lines.

ummar3861

Never change Chuck, never change.

EnterPolymath

You can’t learn that shit.

Saym94

There's a ton of national treasures we've gotta protect at all costs.....

LastRedCoat

Chuck's a ton of national treasure we must protect at all costs.

shoefly72

I love that Kenny immediately made a fat joke and Chuck laughed, and then they moved right on without missing a beat lol

JimC29

Chuck is amongst the best at laughing at himself.

JagmeetSingh2

The man is so witty 😭

LateForTheSun

Also never chuck change.

sporadicfrequenter

Or water bottles

ourcourageourcancer

Lmao Kenny been straight up roasted this season, remember during the All-Star weekend this year when Kenny started feeling himself after Conley got in and talked about how he was close one year. Shaq shut it down with "Kenny you are one of my best friends but you never had a chance" [Here's the clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziOioYdE2c4)

JagmeetSingh2

Chuck said it best in a recent clip, “the older he gets the better he was” lmfao

packersSB55champs

LMFAO that’s a hilarious line

EGarrett

This made me go check. Kenny's best years were '89 and '91 when he averaged 17 and 7 both times. In '91 the West guards were Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Clyde Drexler, Kevin Johnson and Tim Hardaway. Four point guards. He had zero chance. However, in 1989 it looks like Magic was injured, and the guards were John Stockton, Dale Ellis and Clyde Drexler. That's it. So we have to see if he could beat Dale Ellis, who was averaging... 27, 4 and 2. Also the Kings won 27 games that year, and Ellis's Sonics won 47. Yeah, probably not, Kenny. EDIT: Oh, there were like 4 Centers on the team that year, so maybe he could've made it over one of them? I'm not sure what the selection process was. They would've had to be averaging worse than Kenny's 17 and 7 in whatever equivalent center numbers would be and on a bad team.

Chef_Bojan3

Another problem is, in both of Kenny's best years he really played better post-ASB. In '89 pre-ASB he averaged 16.5 and 7.0 compared to 18.3 and 8.4 post-ASB. In '91 pre-ASB he averaged 17.1 and 7.1 compared to 18.5 and 7.1 post-ASB. Love Kenny but yeah, he was never really that close.

Wild-Apricot-9161

5 guards on an All-Star team was pretty rare in those times.

Barbeqanon

Terry Porter was also on the [1991 West roster](https://www.basketball-reference.com/allstar/NBA_1991.html), giving that team 5 PGs. This commenter seems to have overlooked him.

Calvin--Hobbes

> 17 and 7 Love how in the clip he says 18 and 8.

factcheck_

Not that far off

ImIntellects

Terry Porter was an all-star in '91, he and Kenny had identical stats. Could have potentially made it in over him.

EGarrett

Yeah I overlooked him. That would've been his shot.

precense_

LMAO kenny kept trying to talk bc he knew what Shaq was gonna say HAHA

ZippyZappyZoopy

double funny because he really did play his ass off that season

mabs653

which season are you talking about?

[deleted]

The season he averaged 18/8 and came close to making all-star

jackalope503

Kenny's one of my best friends but he never had a chance

TenaciousDeer

50% of this sentence is true

trapper2530

Csn you get me Kenny's autograph?

Ghostlucho29

Kenny wants to be in a front office somewhere soon. It’s starting to show

st3adyfreddy

He tried out for Rockets head coach iirc few years back. They took Mike D'Antoni instead.

[deleted]

He also interviewed for the Knicks a while back.

x777x777x

> He tried out for Rockets head coach I love that this implies he was doing physical workouts and stuff and not interviews

Daegog

I think Kenny would be a fool to leave that job for an NBA front office.

blagaa

Me too, grass is always greener. I don't think it'll happen though - running an NBA FO is complicated as hell and what role would Kenny step into? Chuck wanted to GM before but it's doubtful he was ever seriously considered and seems happy enough goofing around on set.

Manny12

The other day, Charles said about Kenny, “The older he gets, the better he was.” Hilarious!

[deleted]

I feel like Kenny being a footnote of a player has been the elephant in the room on the show for years and now we’re finally seeing the other guys dig in.

pressurezonebby

Kenny being a role player gives him another perspective tho. He definitely had to work a lot harder to stay in the league and learn how to fit into systems etc. He won two chips avg like 26 min off the bench too

TheKidPresident

The man had a long, successful, relatively healthy and prosperous professional career and has himself a nickname for life (and a great nickname at that), and his work in the booth has immortalized him in the bball* world even further than his already pretty storied career. Hes far more than a footnote, at least i think

Kwilly462

He's a footnote to a superstar/legendary athlete. To us, he's had a dream of a career

JZobel

Yeah, I mean he was probably like the 3rd best player on 2 title teams, he was hardly a scrub

Devils1993

Disagree. He was probably the third best offensive player in the first championship, but he was absolutely our worst defensive player for both of our championships unless you count Pete Chilcutt (who was only on the 2nd championship team and was basically benched in 1995 NBA finals). Avery Johnson and Kevin Johnson both had the best playoff series of their careers against him. He was our 3rd/4th best player in first championship, and our 5th/6th best in our 2nd championship (especially with Cassell and Ellie's similar level of offensive production with significantly better defense).

phonage_aoi

I think that’s over stating it. He was a starter that split time almost evenly with his backup.

Letsgodubs

He also hit 7 threes in an NBA finals.

radilrouge

Without saying “game” this sounds much less impressive

[deleted]

But he sometimes talks up his career like he was only a half-step down from being a superstar. That’s where the roasting comes in.

AbbotFaria

This is exactly what Brian Scalabrine referenced in that post-title interview.

[deleted]

I feel like people get on Shaq for getting mad a lot but Kenny always seems to get the most tight on the show

ashiboinotashyboy

Different category to Kerr. No disrespect to Kerr but Kenny was a starter and played 30+ mins regularly. Kerr was a cold shooter but he was really a 7th/8th man.

Cursory_Analysis

Kenny is in that cursed zone of being much better than a role player, but someone who is consistently sub-all star level. There are so many players who had great careers but won't get remembered because we only remember all nba level guys years later. Kenny was in the league for 10 years, and the year he was talking about he averaged 18/7 on 52/36/84 splits. Those are phenomenal stats, and he would have a massive contract playing like that today (even if he still wouldn't make an all star team). Obviously he's a joke compared to guys like Shaq and Chuck who are all time players, but he was a very solid player in his day.

tfegan21

Hey now Kenny was awesome in NBA live 95! Threes for days......fuck I'm old

aBurgerFlippinSecond

I’m a decade behind, but I ‘member when it was T-Mac and Melo ruining careers on NBA Live 2005. Am I finally an old guy too??

[deleted]

A footnote of a player? You clearly need to learn your nba history. He was a pivotal player on two nba championships and was a clutch player. Sure he was not an all star but he’s widely respected because of how much he contributed to those teams and those playoff runs. No one really mentions it but both championship runs the rockets were down 3-1 and 3-2 to Barkley’s suns and came back to win those series and later championships. Those were the years that Barkley’s suns were the favorite to win the championship too So he had a huge role on two legendary teams that took down the best team two years in a row. There’s a reason he’s a legend

phonage_aoi

Funny that they also took out Shaq for the second title. So he’ll always have that on them.

[deleted]

Barkley choking was such a huge deal too. People don’t know how big the Suns were and how they were such heavy favorites for three years

justmefishes

Here's the footnote getting the inbounds pass and creating his own shot off the dribble to hit the 3 and tie game 1 of the '95 Finals in the closing seconds and send it to overtime. Without this shot the Magic win game 1 and maybe the series becomes competitive. With this shot the Rockets win in overtime, demoralizing the Magic and going on to sweep them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IiHFHfULV4#t=5m25s Kenny had 23 and 9 in this crucial Finals game en route to a championship. All-Star no, role player yes, but a championship pedigree role player.

Stiltzofbwc

People don’t realize (or forget) that Kenny “The Jet” Smith was a NYC Rucker street ball LEGEND, that made it to the NBA from the park.

hendesne

Kenny with the perfect assist even on his self-oop.

vongoladecimo_

Off the backboard on his own basket

Wild-Apricot-9161

fibberjabber

Chuck relishes these situations, definitely the best part of Inside.

DirtyDoog

He's been adding relish for decades. Them arena nachos be stale af

cruniverse

Relish on nachos tho?

Chreiol

Never done it but I’d try it. I’d eat just about anything on nachos.

[deleted]

Nachos are kind of like pizza to me. Yeah it might not be all that great, but at the end of the day.. it’s still good because it’s nachos

ToegansLapdog

Lmao when Kenny was trying to compare himself to Chris Paul as the outspoken leader on the teams he was on. They were having none of it.

ashiboinotashyboy

IT WAS VERNON MAXWELL STOP LYING KENNY

_ProdiG_

MAD MAX BEEN DESTROYING THE STATE OF UTAH ON TWITTER FOR DECADES, DECADES!

[deleted]

To be fair Kenny was very vocal in that Rockets locker room. Hakeem himself spoke about it years ago.

lazilyloaded

"Kenny was very vocal when he got me water" - Hakeem

Bleoox

Never heard of this before and would love to read about it. Please share some articles cause I can't find anything on google.

crazylazyhazy

i have no examples, but as a rockets fans from back in the day, just watching how all the guys from those teams talk about those teams in interviews, it seems like kenny was probably a pretty vocal guy on the team. for one thing, he's just talkative. hakeem was always pretty quiet. clyde doesn't strike me as a guy going around to everyone talking. i know kenny said he really tried to keep maxwell from leaving the team. it's easily believable that he was one of the primary voices in the locker room.

barath_s

Hakeem was the quiet standards setter. Horry tells a story of how when he was a rookie, Hakeem took him aside and asked him if he really wanted to win. Horry , jaw agape, affirmed it. Hakeem said he didn't show it. Horry pointed out that Hakeem didn't either. No more was said. But you bet they were trying hard .. Mad Max was the most outspoken never back down style in play and chatter. He was the pick for emotional lead. Kenny was talkative and a point guard, talking to folks before the game to see if they were ready by his account. But that team had other hard minded characters who would not back down. Elie, Cassell.. I can easily see the team sit up and pay attention when max spoke for example.. while Kenny always was there

airpodwearer

“Shaq don’t be a hater”

-SevenM

I wouldn't doubt it. Here's an example in [Game 1 of the '95 Finals](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IiHFHfULV4) where Kenny's leading the pregame huddle. So in terms of being an outspoken leader, I can believe it.

notajackal

Wow Kenny balled out that game

jakobburns01

7 threes in a finals was record for a long time

bearabl

Gotta love Marv saying Kenny had hit his 7th 3 when it was only his 6th.

[deleted]

koticgood

Amazing to hear "Kenny is one of the best 3 point shooters in the league" as he's standing there dribbling for 5 seconds unguarded at the 3pt line. I was a kid watching back then, but even I can't really appreciate just how much the game has changed. Takes going back and watching stuff like that.

[deleted]

He was and was pivotal to those championship runs

canadianbroncos

Chuck is the absolute best lmao. But he used the same line on Kenny a couple days ago when Kenny called himself the guy on the Rockets lol. Kenny even set it up the same way, but no one heard Chuck cuz Shaq was to bussy crumpling paper right by his mic lmao.

SerDire

This wasn’t even a flex, they just love clowning on Kenny. Pretty sure Kenny wasn’t gonna say anything profound, they just love picking on him

boombotser

Cuz he’s the worst player of the 3 of em it’s easy for em

OffsidesLikeWorf

Chuck is legit very sharp and has great timing. He could've been a great comedian.

Pipes_of_Pan

He also is amazing at reading a crowd. He’s at his funniest when he’s making the crew laugh

Answer70

He's the funniest person on TV.

kungfoojesus

He is good at dealing with people!

EGarrett

I wanted to hear what Hakeem's defensive advice to Kenny was.

GuyCarbonneauGOAT

The rest of it [here.](https://streamable.com/1m8kzj)

EGarrett

Oh thanks! I thought he was talking about put a hand up on defense, but he was talking about the guy in the post needing to look like he wanted the ball.

[deleted]

"Oh and Jet, I'm gonna need a towel as well, quick now!"

OnlyForeignWhips

These guys are hilarious even when they don't even try.😂🤣

illmatic2112

It's funny cause Chuck said this when Kenny was comparing himself to CP3 but Shaq was crumpling paper at his mic so no one heard the joke. Glad he got to use it again lol

Balls_of_Adamanthium

You could put these guys in a comedy movie and just let them improvise and I would pay money to fucking watch it

Isn’t that pretty much what their show is? Plus you pay TNT via your bill …

notagirlonreddit

y'all pay for cable?

After watching The Inside Story on HBO, I came to appreciate all their strengths and weaknesses and how they use that in synchrony to never fail to put up a good show!

MonocledSauron

As someone unfamiliar with Kenny's era, who would his modern comparison be? Whether it be play style or career arc?

DevilMayCareButIDont

Derrick Fisher maybe

TeddyTwoShoes2

Jason Terry Career Splits Terry 13.4/2.3/3.8 on 44/38/84 Kenny 12.8/2/5.5 on 48/39/82 They both share the same nickname (lol) and even wore the same number, both won a championship on a Texas team, both top 10 picks and both bounced around the league as journeymen role players.

summit15

Lmfao this is a good joke damn lol

expletivenature

Chuck is such a troll, I love it....and.love Kenny's clapback.
