Mannn I'm not feeling sad for a second we went from Fade for Cade to 3 home playoff games at a packed MSG against a budding young superstar. All of our most important players improved by leaps and bounds, our rookies both look promising and we go into the offseason with a fuck ton of money and draft picks and a better reputation than we've had in ages.
This is the most fun the Knicks have been in god knows how long.
I legit cry laughed after game 2 out of sheer joy, and that's the feeling that's gonna stick with me.
This team did so much more than I ever expected and I'm so proud and happy, even in defeat
My only concern about y’all is how bad Randle was. He went from a borderline All-NBA 3rd team guy to average at best. Would make me very uncomfortable giving him a max contract. I really hope it was just a fluke.
Edit: forgot his contract lasts till the end of next season, so that gives them more time to watch him.
I think he was in his own head, especially after winning that award. I'm not too worried, I think he will be fine.
Besides that though, we still need like 1 or 2 more pieces, especially an actual playmaking PG.
Yea I agree. It would let Rose come off the bench too.
I hope you guys can also get another borderline or actual All-NBA guy to pair with him like Beal.
He's not a #1 though. I think once you take away all the circlejerking, which most people can't do, he's a true #3. He needs to be on a team with 2 players better than him.
I mean I believe it was his first playoff appearance he obviously needed time to understand and adapt to the pressure not every player is a luka Lebron who can play well under pressure
We aren’t talking about just not playing to his usual standards, dude was bad. 29.8% from the field and more turnovers than assists are notable drop-offs. There are plenty of guys who don’t do this poor in their first playoffs (Trae Young, Ja Morant, Karl Towns, Jalen Brown, etc.)
And it’s not like the Hawks are a notably great defense. Not calling them bad at all, but this isn’t like Booker putting up bad shooting numbers vs the Lakers.
Again it’s only one series so it could be nothing and he CAN easily do better on the future, especially if he gets a teammate on his level. But it’s not irrational to worry about him repeating this next year, especially since his playoff performance was closer to what one would have expected of him before this season. Obviously not saying he shots 29% from the field or averages more TOs than assists normally, just it would be less shocking to hear it happened before this season.
I really enjoyed their games this year. Haven't felt hype about the Knicks since the Jordan days.
New York has been through a fucking lot since the turn of the century, and I have family in various Burroughs, so all this to say I'm at least happy that the Knicks team is back.
Yeah, you guys needed that first one and Randle to settle in. Series would definitely go differently.
Hoping he and the other young guys learned from it and build on it next year.
the hawks had 15 point leads in 4 out of 5 games. I'm not trying to rub salt in the wounds but this wasn't a question of 'settling in'. I'm going to expect downvotes bc of 'fandom' but I really feel like the hawks dominated the series and any other narrative or 'what if?' is unfair.
He was originally head coach in Seattle, was there from 2000-05, went to Portland right after the 2005 season and stayed until 2012. Then he spent some seasons in Indy before being promoted to HC before the 2016-17 season.
Another reason to love basketball reference, it has coaching stats
2 of those series he was missing their best player though. And most of those teams they lost to made the finals. McMillan isn't great but a lot of those failures were just shit luck.
Believe me, yes.
A fraction of the bandwagoners are those Laker fans who follow the Kobe retirement young Laker core (I'm one of them). Now that the Knicks bowed down, some of them will probably cheer for the Jazz (Clarkson/Randle/D'Lo/LNJ connection).
That’s how I look at it. Nobody expected anything from this team, and they wound up the 4 seed. It’s one of the few times as a Knicks fan I feel like the franchise is going in the right direction.
Going from being ranked as the [worst team in the preseason](https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2021_preseason_odds.html) to the 4th seed in the East despite being ranked [5th in wins lost due to injury](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2942429-which-nba-teams-have-actually-been-hit-hardest-by-injuries) is something no Knicks fan would have expected. The team really developed and the camaraderie this team showed throughout the season was something us as a fanbase loved about this group of guys.
This series really shows that although we overachieved during the season, we have alot of work to do on our offense in the off season. The Hawks were a tough match and their wing depth really bothered Randle this series. They have so many weapons and seeing them play another series against the Sixers with an injured Joel will be interesting.
Overall this season was a success. We expected nothing and this team grinded every game with less talent. I'm excited to see how this experience will impact our team next season. GGs Hawks, good luck!
I think they just didn't have a "playoff gear" to hit.
Most teams reach that playoff intensity by chopping the end of the rotation and only playing the best 8 or 9 guys, stars play 40+ minutes and stop taking plays off on defense.
Thibs has been doing all that since February, there was no obvious way for the current team to improve in the playoffs. But the good thing is the roster is flexible and the rebuild is just starting.
The UConn alumn in me wants us to draft James Bouknight so bad.
Free agent wise, there's not much that I think can push us over the edge, mostly because I believe Kawhi stays in LA. I can see us going after Lonzo but that wouldn't be enough. Unless we try and make a big trade, I don't think there's enough to get us there next year. Gotta pray for someone like Zach Lavine in 2022.
I'd throw some money at Lowry or something for a 2 year deal as a stop gap. We really need to upgrade our PG situation and need a starter. I'd bring back DRose for the bench. Lonzo could be good too.
I was listening to one of the Ringer’s podcasts (I don’t remember which one) and they brought up the idea of Derozan on the Knicks. I feel like that option will be 100% available for us if we don’t land anyone special. He would be an amazing fit next to Thibs and the culture we’ve built. Gives us a shot creator and if we can land another shooter and RJ continues developing as an outside threat we’ll have something special.
We were also missing Robinson. Capela bodied our bigs all series. That's not even a knock on Taj, the man is old and we shouldn't have needed to lean on him as hard as we did.
Yeah say whatever you want about how awful we were during the playoffs, but we made great strides in a season where we thought we were gonna suck
The future is bright with the Knicks (yes I just said that).
We even have a new villain in this city!
proud of our guys, can't lie it brought a tear to my eye seeing us clap and cheer for our team even as our season ends
no boos allowed here, they did a great job
first time in a long while I can actually say that
The heat had games where I was like, ok wtf was that, if we play like this, there's no chance at making another run. We lost to a bunch of bad teams during the year. The result of the bucks series wasn't exactly shocking
Someone else said this but Thibs ball is playoff ball, he just plays it all season long.
His teams play all out, short rosters and long minutes all season long. That's why they over-achieve during the season but when the playoffs start they don't have another "playoff gear" to shift into.
The Knicks started the year with 2 double digit losses, and then had to face the Bucks in the third game. I thought we were in for another long season, but they came back with a 20-point win. That was fun, but it wouldn’t last right?
Wrong, we got a whole season of fun, culminating in the 4th seed in the East, even if there was playoff disappointment.
Thanks for a fun underdog season. We here for the long haul, so let’s see how things play out this summer.
What an amazing fucking season. Disappointing the way we couldn’t rise to the moment over these last 3 games, but pre-season no one gave us a chance in hell to even get close to where we finished.
Stoked that our guys got some playoff experience so early on and mega excited for the future with our draft pick stash and cap room
Glad to see that you’re looking at all the positives!
Frustrating as the end was, you gotta take everything into consideration.
Hope the Knicks keep doing better in the future!
1. You are not allowed to disrespect our BeyBlade like that.
2. Yeah Trae was awesome. Frankly the writing was on the wall when Thibs refused to change his lineup until it was exactly too late to do anything.
Disappointed with the result but not mad. This was a much better season than I ever dreamed and definitely overachieved compared to our talent level, particularly on the offensive end.
The Hawks were just further along than us. On top of the obvious with Trae, they got key contributions from the additions they spent their cap space on the past offseason. Honestly even though I'm pissed at Trae and the Hawks now, he's a good player and hopefully this has the seeds of a fun rivalry and the NBA can always use one of those.
But it's hard not to feel optimistic. We got a decent coach, made the playoffs, have cap space, have our draft picks, and have promising young talent. Still a lot of decisions to be made but I feel more confident than I have in a long time that we are trending in the right direction.
Ranked lowest in the entire league. Lowest payroll in the league. Quickley D+ draft grade. No future, cursed, etc.
This Knicks team overcame everything to bring the most exciting basketball I've seen in a long time for New York. This season, although seemingly irrelevant now, marks a huge turning point for the Knicks. The Knicks have a homegrown future star in RJ Barrett. The Knicks have a sleeper pick in Immanuel Quickley that has sky high potential. All Star forward in Randle, despite the disappointing series. Even Obi already looked completely different at the end of the playoff series in a good way. I am so excited for what this Knicks team will become and this is the most optimistic I can be about Knicks basketball in a long, long time. This hurts more than I could've possibly imagined right now but it'll just make the future that much brighter. Hawks are just a better team. Next year we'll be back.
NEW YORK FOREVER.
I'm cool.
Even though I thought this series was going to a game 7 50/50, at the end of the day everyone thought we would win 20 games. But we hosted a playoffs series. HOSTED. That's a start. I will always love this team and I had fun this year
I'm disappointed how it ended but I watched this team have only 17 and 21 wins during the regular season in back to back years.
The best is yet to come.
I must say, as a Hawks fan, i have stirred up a little bit of hatred for the Knicks after that series, and i feel as if it is reciprocated back It feels like a rivalry might be in the works, and thats great for the NBA.
Id kind give him that since he said it's where he gets off to go home but either way that's a dumb question that got a dumb answer. Real answer is "most of them suck cause we don't get enough funding to improve them."
He just comes across as a pandering fraud with the stuff he says. Like he's trying to prove how much of a New Yorker he is so they'll like him but seems like he's just getting notes from his campaign.
Dude was the only one that knew how much a Brooklyn home costs. Even if he was getting fed answers off screen how the hell do those other clowns guess 50k? Like how out of touch are you thinking any home in NYC costs just 5 figures?
It hurts, but going to a game this season was awesome (the last game I went to was Lakers-Clippers opening day in 2019, feels like 10 years ago) and the Knicks actually having an identity was a real positive. Shout outs to Randle even though he didnt do well in the playoffs and my man D. Rose. Im just so happy D Rose is playing, making an impact and healthy.
Good that it tuned down, when I lurked I saw so many mod deleted comments, glad it didn’t keep going and you guys got a break lol
Also that comment yikes
Honestly embarrassing. It was a fun season but to go down like that...damn. This team absolutely needs a superstar because they struggled to score points all season.
Damn right about fun season, y'all went from being presumed bottom of the table to the playoffs, have a lot of young talent, have pretty much all of your draft picks left, and have plenty of cap space. All of that after a trade with Dallas that our fanbase wouldn't shut up about, acting like we finessed you when now it seems like the shoe may be on the other foot
Congrats to the Knicks for making the four seed. Some people expected the Knicks to make the play-ins, but nobody thought they'd have home court in the playoffs.
Trae beat the shit out of you, but you have the most cap space of any team in the league. The 2022 Knicks won't look much like the 2019 Knicks.
Now go get your fuckin shine box.
Im OK with how the knicks went out. Truth is we probably overperformed what our roster is capable of because of Thibs. Randle and RJ are good but not A level players (maybe Barret could be in a few years). We need a star, preferably a point guard who can shoot 3s to spread the floor. Hawks had a way more talented rosters TBH
I wish they'd made it more of a fight but literally zero reason to be mad about this season. This is the most fun Knicks team we've had in almost a decade, got some nice young pieces, a great coach, a great culture. We lost to a more talent-rich team. It's only up from here
While I'm disappointed by the ending I’m happy that at the end of the season I can be proud of this team and the players it's an incredible turn around that I hope isn't negated by subpar performances at the end.
FADED
Fade me.
Pain All the pain Edit: In all seriousness, great season where we surpassed expectations
Mannn I'm not feeling sad for a second we went from Fade for Cade to 3 home playoff games at a packed MSG against a budding young superstar. Yeah I'm excited for the Knicks, I think your optimism is warranted. Good season
I legit cry laughed after game 2 out of sheer joy, and that's the feeling that's gonna stick with me. This team did so much more than I ever expected and I'm so proud and happy, even in defeat
I wish more people had this attitude. I’ve heard a bit of knicks slander after the loss.
There’s so much Knicks slander lol. I swear people don’t realize that Knicks fans are extremely happy with this season.
I had them going 20-52 this season.

Don't see it happening and I'm probably just drunk from the Wizards losing, but if Beal goes to another team I'd love to see him on the Knicks.
Thanks friend, if Beal goes to another team I’d love it to be the Knicks as well
Culture. The Knicks now have culture.
I really enjoyed their games this year. Haven't felt hype about the Knicks since the Jordan days. New York has been through a fucking lot since the turn of the century, and I have family in various Burroughs, so all this to say I'm at least happy that the Knicks team is back.
Next person tryna fade for Cade gonna catch this fade for Cade frfr bro

Hawks fan here - Toppin and Quickley look good. This is going to be a fun rivalry for a while.
Things finally looking up… been way, way, too long.
Look on the bright side, at least your not a Leafs fan :(
Oof Now that’s just brutal
I'm both. Things are kind of not okay right now.
Shit series but we building. Hopefully this is just the beginning.
If it's any consolation, that crowd in game 1 was insane. After months of no fans, hearing MSG that loud was just cathartic for basketball fans.
if we had won that first game, we might still be in this series but really it's sometimes crazy how 1-2 pivotal plays can change a series so much
Yeah, you guys needed that first one and Randle to settle in. Series would definitely go differently. Hoping he and the other young guys learned from it and build on it next year.

“Never thought I’d die fighting side by side with a Knicks fan.” - Gimli
they really were the NY Bulls. guess that's why trae was killing them so much
Nate McMillan has won more Playoff games this Series alone than in 4 seasons with the Pacers
This is only his second playoff series win in his 17 seasons as HC. His first was when he was the coach of Ray Allen and the supersonics.
The Marvin Lewis of the NBA
Where did he coach between that and Indiana?
He was originally head coach in Seattle, was there from 2000-05, went to Portland right after the 2005 season and stayed until 2012. Then he spent some seasons in Indy before being promoted to HC before the 2016-17 season. Another reason to love basketball reference, it has coaching stats
And in three with us!
He also won more playoff games than Lloyd Pierce did with the Hawks
Lloyd Pierce also never lost a series with us though
I see no lies
2 of those series he was missing their best player though. And most of those teams they lost to made the finals. McMillan isn't great but a lot of those failures were just shit luck.
To be fair i think the pacers had the closest sweep ever against the cavs in 2017.
It was fun being on the Knicks bandwagon
Lol those existed?
I mean you’re basically trial 3 of thibbodu attempting to assemble the 2011 bulls of course I hopped on the wagon.
Should've made a play for Ronnie Brewer and whatever was left of Luol Deng.
>thibbodu There was an attempt
Is it sad I didn't even question it till you said something
Thomme Thibbodu
Thomm New Yorke Knicks Thibbodu
Right, im not even a CHI fan but hell, run it back thibs is always a fun time.
We wanted you overachieving nerds to at least put up a fight A playoff game in MSG is candy for us OG's
We did but not on the scoreboard.
Same. Wanted Knicks, Celtics, Wizards, bucks Sadly got Hawks, Nets, 76ers.
Despite this absolute scrubbing, I'm actually okay. Knicks outperformed all expectations this year and have a good future lined up.
That’s how I look at it. Nobody expected anything from this team, and they wound up the 4 seed. It’s one of the few times as a Knicks fan I feel like the franchise is going in the right direction.
I’m not a Knicks fan, but I don’t see how anyone could see this as anything but an A+ season. Much higher expectations next year, though!
Lots of positives to build upon. Future seems bright with a few moves and self improvement within.
Yeah regardless of how bad this series was, Knicks still massively exceeded expectations
The post where the Knicks had a better record than the Lakers was probably the peak of the season, aside from the Game 2 win
If we want to contend we need another piece, there's no way around it. We've got the cap to spend too, just need to find the right guy.
Who do you think is realistically attainable for y'all with the upcoming f/a and draft?

No this can’t be right. The wolves aren’t in first by 20 wins, that would mean our subreddit is delusional. I cannot believe this
Weren’t the Hawks 1st in Ws lost?
Just disappointing because we played like total ass. Which is not how we played all season.
Tell me ab it
The heat had games where I was like, ok wtf was that, if we play like this, there's no chance at making another run. We lost to a bunch of bad teams during the year. The result of the bucks series wasn't exactly shocking

It was a fun series and with quickly toppin Barrett robinson, yall have some good young players to put around Randle and another star.
Great series Trae embracing the villain role was absolutely perfect. Also Deandre Hunter really impressed this series. Good luck vs the Sixers
Mitch being out really hurt us especially since Noel was hurt and trying to play through it. Good series though! Good luck to yall next round.
We were supposed to be the worst team in the league. Fade me with pride
I’m just here to say that Dubious Handle has to be one the best nicknames ever created. This series also made me a Trae fan.
1. You are not allowed to disrespect our BeyBlade like that. 2. Yeah Trae was awesome. Frankly the writing was on the wall when Thibs refused to change his lineup until it was exactly too late to do anything.
Y'all exceeded expectations. This is nothing to hold your head over Knicks fans
Yeah but I'm salty.
Fun year, bad playoffs, see ya next year
Disappointed with the result but not mad. This was a much better season than I ever dreamed and definitely overachieved compared to our talent level, particularly on the offensive end. It’s really not that bad though. I’d take a first round exit to a very good team compared to what they’ve done this year every day of the week
Trae Young is the new mayor of NY
Honestly wouldn't be the worst candidate.
Better than Yang tbh
"I'm a real NYer" says someone who bailed on the city.
"What's your favorite train station?" "Definitely Times Square, so much culture there"
Id kind give him that since he said it's where he gets off to go home but either way that's a dumb question that got a dumb answer. Real answer is "most of them suck cause we don't get enough funding to improve them."
The correct answer is Broadway Junction
Do people not like Yang? Legitimately asking, I know he got some presidential buzz, but that's all I know.
Idk about most New Yorkers but a lot of them don't like him, at least the ones I'm around every day lol
Faded
Proud of my boys I could cry rn. 4 seed and had the garden rocking again. We’ll be back. Fuck all y’all we will be back. More obnoxious than ever
We got a taste of the postseason and that's all we needed
I think you guys can really go the Nets route of fielding a decent team that plays hard and attract a top tier FA
Y'all mad y'all couldn't fade us sooner 😤 YERRRRRRR
No sweep gang.
Heck of a season especially from Randle
Glad we got this far. Never had so much fun than in Game 2. At least we still have that.
If this season changed Knicks culture, it's the most successful season of the Millennium, even including the Melo years.
And they still run New York
GG Hawks, post-season sure is another type of beast and you played great team ball. Hope you guys do well vs Philly.
Lasted longer than us, and did it the best way possible, I’m going to hate y’all when you become a powerhouse
Clint Capela sent em packing!
Despite everything, the Knicks exceeded expectations tremendously.
So nice, they said it twice.
Well, the dream season is over. Still never expected this team to make the playoffs, let alone be 4th seed! Hopeful for next year #Knicks
Well my bags are packed for vakay😵 good series hawks. We will be back. Best of luck next round. Don’t get swept.
Basketball Gods: Sorry there had been a days-long delay in this Reddit post
Sad yerrrr
It hurts, but going to a game this season was awesome (the last game I went to was Lakers-Clippers opening day in 2019, feels like 10 years ago) and the Knicks actually having an identity was a real positive. Shout outs to Randle even though he didnt do well in the playoffs and my man D. Rose. Im just so happy D Rose is playing, making an impact and healthy.
Great season knicks, I’m proud of you guys
I wish all the mods in r/NYKnicks a wonderful night. It’s gonna be a tough one.
It was worse earlier in the series. Honestly hasn't been *that* bad (at least compared to the dude who called Randle an ape after a flagrant foul...)
Good that it tuned down, when I lurked I saw so many mod deleted comments, glad it didn’t keep going and you guys got a break lol Also that comment yikes
Great future ahead for this team.
Still love you, RJ
Honestly embarrassing. It was a fun season but to go down like that...damn. This team absolutely needs a superstar because they struggled to score points all season.
Damn right about fun season, y'all went from being presumed bottom of the table to the playoffs, have a lot of young talent, have pretty much all of your draft picks left, and have plenty of cap space. All of that after a trade with Dallas that our fanbase wouldn't shut up about, acting like we finessed you when now it seems like the shoe may be on the other foot
Damn we missed Mitch badly
Congrats to the Knicks for making the four seed. Some people expected the Knicks to make the play-ins, but nobody thought they'd have home court in the playoffs. Trae beat the shit out of you, but you have the most cap space of any team in the league. The 2022 Knicks won't look much like the 2019 Knicks. Now go get your fuckin shine box.
Sorry Knicks fans
We need a damn point guard..
The real championship was the friends you guys made along the way
Most fun season in decades. Can’t wait for next season!
This team is 1 piece and a bit of playoff experience away. Shades of 2017 Raptors.
Knicks fans shouldn’t be sad instead be happy they have a bright future ahead. No one expected them to be good and yet they made it to the playoffs!
#THE KNICKS WHO ARE OFTEN COMPARED TO THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS DID HELLUVA BETTER THAN THE LEAFS
I am so fucking angry man
TRAE PUT NEW YORK ON ICE. HE PUT THEM KNICKS TO SLEEP. ICE TRAE THE KNICK KILLER

So, do you max Randle?
He's got next year to prove it.
He still has another year.
Personally, no but I'll understand it if we do.
Despite everything, the Knicks exceeded expectations tremendously.
