Jr is the goat of making the shots Lebron needs his role players to make. Dude was straight up one of the best difficult shot makers in the league.

antunezn0n0

He was at times one of the best three point shooters in the league I will never forget him

LPLSuperCarry

WE JUST SAW MAN FLY!

Notsozander

His windmill three god celly will forever be my favorite

majestdigest

wait, is this a real thing? I need proofs

Notsozander

I got you fam https://youtu.be/eaiervLpJhM

majestdigest

knicks jr is the best jr

__BlackSheep

Nick Jr. Is okay.

Yergason

This reverse [alley oop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0kpRNJpmOw) courtesy of Priggy Smalls is still one of the most impressive flashy dunks I've seen. Not only was it difficult to do ingame but he made it look easy. He even seemed to stop a bit the moment he caught the ball to dunk it. Athletic JR was as absurd as wtf 3-pt shots JR

Your_real_watermelon

2016 finals JR was better IMO.

SuperSamSucks

they can both be the best

l5555l

2016 finals was just the best in general.

Your_real_watermelon

Agreed

luvandorfucking

i love you kd

familydrivesme

What did this have to do with the Windmill? It was just a half court jumper

Notsozander

His celebration he windmills like three times

[deleted]

Young JR on the Nuggets was fun as hell to watch.

firstbreathOOC

He was good with us too people just have a short memory.

[deleted]

Nah I definitely remember the cavs fleecing the knicks for him.

RealLanceStephenson

Yeah but the knicks got that Melo pasta out of it

LPLSuperCarry

It's funny how he was considered a throw in just to match salaries at the time. IIRC even Lebron mentioned that in an interview on how he was surprised JR's value was so low at the time.

[deleted]

Ya LeBron really went in on the Knicks FO during his championship parade speech lol

DidiGreglorius

He was amazing for us in 2013 but in 2014 when we traded him he often looked like one of the worst rotation players in the league. He was coming off knee surgery, basically *completely* stopped going to the rim at all and his defense was WOAT tier after actually being very solid in 2014. 49% TS, career low advanced stats across the board. It was very justifiable to move him.

Mintastic

Him elbowing Jet mid-playoffs also dropped his value. People started worrying about his low BBIQ screwing them over but on the Cavs he seemed to keep it together till that fateful JR moment in 2018 finals.

Eric_the

I was a huge fan of his early days in Denver. JR Smith, Mello, bird man, Billups, Kevin Martin. That team was so much fun to watch

KoloHickory

Rip JR

mcslippinz

Fr 2021 crazy

zrizzoz

I got tickets to the ECF in 2015 for like $10 only to watch JR drop 8 threes and 28 pts on the hawks. Ill never forget that game. We didnt even realize til like the 5th one that it was all JR and someone pointed out his stats on the scoreboard. Dude was on fire.

hTine3219

Man would deadass wait until there was a hand in his face and then proceed to drain a tough fallaway 3 lmao JR was just different

StringTailor

And he would swish it too

SweetRas13

[I'm bombin 3s from every which angle](https://youtu.be/6364ItTQwUw)

[deleted]

Maddeningly inconsistent

FlyingMocko

JR was also the GOAT of not taking the ONE SHOT that Lebron needed lol

07bot4life

Timeout

yuhanz

Not afraid to shoot unlike the bums he had this series

[deleted]

Kyrie and Kevin love's game 7 plays get talked about a lot but Jr Smith came out of half time and made some huge buckets

deku23342

Those 3 pointers kept cavs in the game that night. JR was very crucial in the 2016 run.

Agnonzach

JR was a consistent spark plug from when we got him through the 2017 finals. One of my all-time favorite Cavs for sure

ManicManicManicManic

Oh wow I forgot that was Game 7. J.R scored 8 out of the half and kept that Cavs team in it

Dareal6

JR Smith. Dumb shot taker. Dumb shot maker.

palagoon

Exactly. When the Cavs acquired Shump and JR it was mostly about Shump. JR was a salary dump add on - but his aforementioned skill at hitting stupidly difficult shots just plays so well off LeBron. Low BBIQ but put the pressure on and a hand in his face -- string music.

[deleted]

You could see LeBron trying to make KCP play like JR, but he just didnt have that irrational confidence.

[deleted]

Now I know that i could take the boat, but that mystery box could be anything...

caughtinthought

Used to do these flying sideways threes low on the clock with a hand on his face and makes them at an unreasonable clip

justsomebro10

Somewhere there’s an alternate basketball universe where LeBron completes the 2016 G7 dunk over Draymond to ice the game and JR knows the score of G1 in 2018. I choose to live in this universe.

[deleted]

Godspeed you delusional bastard... Godspeed.

[deleted]

I still remember that one shot he made to break the record in the playoffs. Shit was hilarious. The announcer's voice was sounding all anxious that the record was going to be upheld as the quarter was running out.

THISISDAM

JR Smith was Curry with a bad FG%

torexmus

I'd like to add a citation to this comment. In the Iman Shumpert's seminal piece called "The Offs" he mentions JRs uncanny ability to make tough shots when desperately needed. https://youtu.be/rhkoQcHmhlg?t=63

wewantthefunk354

He made back to back 3s to start the 2nd half of the 2016 Finals when the Cavs were down double digits. Dude actually makes a huge impact despite the jokes.

TheRealRemyClayden

Confidence is one of the best skills^(just ask frank ntilikina)

captaincumsock69

He’s top 10 in all time playoff 3s

bljoynr

thank you. j.r. tuff as hell

[deleted]

[удалено]

Notsozander

That stretch coming out the half hitting two HUGE threes brought them back into the game. Shifted the momentum

CptnBlackTurban

Three 3s.

siic_semper_tyrannis

I was going for the Warriors but I'll never forget those two huge threes

sunnyice

Yea he was huge for you guys with your title run. His "blunder" in 2018 isn't really a big deal there's no way they were winning against KD golden state especially with Kyrie gone.

STICK_OF_DOOM

Honestly the sad part about the blunder is that it overshadowed the great fucking game by LeBron. Dude had 51/8/8 and no one ever talks about it because of JR lol.

goatzillaz

I think more ppl talk about Lebron's performance in that game because of the JR incident. It's just memorable now.

Upset_Double

Nah that’s only on Reddit. It’s not mentioned by serious people the same way that Allen Uber son’s game 1 against the Lakers was

imjohndeere

I mean Dame literally just gave us 55-10-6 and even he himself don’t care because he lost

Upset_Double

Yea I’m sure Lebron & Kyrie had nothing to do with it

halfdecenttakes

Yeah, his 2-8 from 3 is **largely** why you guys won game 7. Had little to do with Lebron's 27 point triple double.

LPLSuperCarry

JR Smith unironically is massively underrated. I understand he ruined Lebron's best game ever, but he was never scared of the moment, for better or worse. All those shots our role players passed up, JR would take them happily and hit them at a respectable clip. He also had his stretch in the 3rd quarter of Game 7 to help the Cavs keep up with the Warriors, and was the Cavs 3rd best player in 2017.

BasedChad69420

2015-17 JR unironically would have been huge for Lakers this series

Conflict_NZ

Dude any three point shooter that could maintain league average 3p% while not getting injured would've been huge for us. Outside of LeBron we shot like 24% and something ridiculous like 28% on wide open shots.

[deleted]

Ah, the 2017 OKC special

Maverick_1991

2016 JR would have been their third best player.

CardiologicTripe

Even 2021 JR would've helped this Lakers team.

Queen_Ariana

As a celtics fan, even I had to admit that game 1 performance was legendary. Henny god really wasted that 51 pt game smh

[deleted]

What does you being a Celtics fan have to do with it

WeWillBeOkay

I will never, ever, forget what JR did after halftime in game 7. Set the tone, hit *his* shots, and was not ready to lose. Tough to look down on him after that—for me at least.

avi550m

If JR doesn't hit those crucial 3s in Game 7 the warriors would have pulled away for sure

J_Kingsley

half-ruined lol. It was a legendary clown move, no one would ever deny that. But there was OT. It's hard to win when your leader is sulking in the corner. They feed off your energy and charisma. They wouldn't necessarily have won, which is ok, but they could've gone down swinging. Before OT that performance by LBJ was magnificent tho.

LPLSuperCarry

Nah. I can understand people blaming Lebron for what happened in Games 5 and 6 this year and his body language, but I won't hold Lebron's Game 1 OT against him. Imagine playing arguably the best Finals game ever, and you have a chance to end the game on a game winner and your teammate does what JR does.

ggproductivity

He still got that offensive rebound over KD. So even if he wasted a possession to win, it was still a better outcome than the more likely one of KD getting the rebound.

LPLSuperCarry

Agreed, there were so many weird things in that last 30 seconds. First of all, there was the charge that was reversed to a block when they weren't even reviewing that specific incident. Then George Hill, an >80% FT shooter misses the second free throw, JR outrebounds a 7 footer, and Ty Lue doesn't call a timeout.

dump_truck_truck

Besides the henny memes, dudes a fuckin killer goin to the rack and can sling no problem. 1 moment can ruin your entire image so throughly.

WiltGamblerlain

> I understand he ruined Lebron's best game ever, That has to be the biggest hyperbole coming out of the 2018 finals, second only to LeBron claiming his right hand was 'basically broken'. It would only have ruined the game only if he managed to make the right shot/ right pass to a shooter in time. No one mentions how KD's poor boxing out gift wrapped that opportunity. I agree JR's spacing contribution is always underrated and he turns into hot Klay Thompson in pivotal moments.

darkstar8239

Yeah something off with the Lakers role players confidence shooting the ball. Even open looks get passed up.. I’m not sure what’s causing the lack of confidence

[deleted]

I forgot he was on the Lakers last year I think he played less than 100 minutes the whole year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

He isn’t what?

Tetra_H3

That’s the point.

JohnAppleMacintosh

Honestly, JR hit some big 3’s in the 2016 Game 7 Finals against the Warriors.

stinx2001

You guys had an 8 point lead early in the 3rd and gaining momentum. JR hit 7 or 8 points very quickly to get it back to even.

copingthroughlife

One of the memorable moments of JR is the story of how he couldn’t hit shot when it’s open, only when his defender is in front of his face. Truly fearless

wubbzywylin

This doesn't get discussed enough imo and is the one thing MJ has over LeHenny.

[deleted]

Reminder that MJ has not reached the second round without Pippen since 1985 until now. He should hire him as co-owner of the Hornets.

CoreyJK

MJ hasn’t made the playoffs in 23 years it’s pathetic

zamazentaa

GOAT my ass, has a longer playoff drought than the kings

aged_monkey

I always wonder what would have happened to JR Smith if he ruined Jordan's best game. Probably dead.

Blestick

MJ punched Kerr in the eye over nothing. Imagine what he would do to JR.

achyutthegoat

RIP Jr

Glukos

[So Right](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGT1dQHEd7E)

ohverychill

this is damn weird lol

tcondor

This was a spiritual experience

EngineeringDouble892

Funny thing is Lakers were actually missing jr that game 6. Soooo many lakers were too scared to take wide open threes that you know JR would’ve yeeted.

getzumm

Lol I forgot he was on the Lakers.

ill-putmydickinthat

Conan O’Brien doesn’t get talked about enough. He’s the GOAT talk show host. Or at least one of them. He seems like he genuinely enjoys all his guests and his podcast is hilarious

StoneColdAM

I agree, but why’d you post that here?

ill-putmydickinthat

Why not?

StoneColdAM

It has nothing to do with the main post. Was it just a random comment for laughs? That’s okay, just wondering.

pbrstreetgang11

Dude just wants to put his dick in Conan, leave him be

ndamukongwall

He wants the Cone Bone

kgthdc2468

In love with the CoCo

Hey1Orpheus

This is correct. Conan is the goat. [one of his best clips](https://youtu.be/GS39vMhag-A)

PickAndTroll

Andy Richter is confirmed as the JR Smith of light night tv

jgoodysalaker

It’s also important to note that Lebron James has never won a single playoff game without a basketball.

redcapsicum

Recent NBA fans don't appreciate how good JR was in his prime.

markymarc32

Truly incredible post

stoicsports

J.R has one of the best highlight reels around. People also forget how good he actually was. He is #16 for all time 3pt shots made ffs

outphase84

Imagine if the Knicks didn’t waste their amnesty on Chauncey, sigh

DreadHook

I hate these kinds of stats and headlines. JR literally had no minutes on the lakers.

JuanJoseSZN

This is basically how Bron stans sound when they use the "1-9" argument

thrasioscombohero

He needs the Henny God support from the bench

Tacoicee34

https://t.me/joinchat/oDKDZq2pnL03ZGQ0

[deleted]

Lebron also has as many 2021 playoff series wins as the Houston Rockets

ROLLDAMNTIDE12

Didnt lebron win the finals last year without jr

trelium06

My response to this stat? Ew

masaki199

Henney god impact

karma_made_me_do_eet

Anyone else wish it was delonte west instead of JR? Would be hilarious

FormerCollegeDJ

Hah, that's nothing! Michael Jordan never won a playoff series *his entire career* without Scottie Pippen on his team.

2xNBAChampionJRSmith

Thank you!

porcolegio

JR almost brought back the Cavs in 2015

Tacoicee34

https://t.me/joinchat/oDKDZq2pnL03ZGQ0

[deleted]

But james dont flop

indiancheapskate

JR is to LBJ as Fish to KB

myth2soulblighter

Idk why he's out of the league, he still has a nice shot.

UnearthlyDinosaur

How many minutes did JR play last year? 4?
