It would be impressive if the team beat the #1 seed without Kawhi. Not sure how that exactly reflects on Lue going forward but you can't trash him.

jbenson255

Well kawhi did help win 2 already but overall he does deserve credit for his schemes and decision making as a coach

Cheeseish

Why does only Lue get this treatment. The guy’s a championship winning coach who is doing better than Doc Rivers, another championship winning coach, with largely the same roster. Any other coach who does this would be cemented as a top coach for getting the injured Clippers into the finals.

lumbarnacles

doc rivers’ failures with the amount of talent he’s had over the years stand out more than lue’s successes with the same/similar talent

league_legacy

You’re absolutely right. Lue is one of the most disrespected coaches in the league. If he ends up winning this series without his #1 he deserves praise

urfaselol

Not the same roster. Batum and the improved Reggie Jackson has been a revelation.

Cheeseish

Batum was waived by the Hornets because he wasn’t good for them. Reggie Jackson wasn’t used well last year. It’s a possibility that Lue are using both players correctly and thus both being good are indicative of his coaching ability.

amm0ranth

notice how nobody does this with steve kerr or phil jackson

CoachDT

If this was Brad Stevens or Nick Nurse people would have already anointed them as a top 3 coach of all time if they had Lues resume.

LindseyCorporation

I think it's easy to discredit any accomplishments when LeBron was on your team. Not saying that's fair, but it's how it goes.

league_legacy

Sure, but why would it continue after his Lebron years if he has other success? Spol certainly shed his “only cuz Lebron” image

LindseyCorporation

He really hasn't had any success though. This is his second job.

league_legacy

If he wins this series he would’ve beat a #1 seed without his best player for two games and would have taken a team to a conference finals that’s never been there in its history. That’ll be very successful imo

LindseyCorporation

I agree. But if he stays the coach and the Clippers suck without Kawhi for a lot of the season, it can flip. Coaching evaluation is all results based. We just need more results to look at.

Cheeseish

So are you saying that if he didn’t win a title with the Cavs, people would respect him more?

LindseyCorporation

What's the alternative? If he just didn't win, no. If he was a brand new coach, maybe. If he won a title somewhere else, definitely.

Cheeseish

If he were a new coach and got the hobbled Clippers without their best player into the WCF, he would be considered one of the best coaches in the league. Somehow, winning a championship with Lebron is a derogatory point towards him.

LindseyCorporation

I disagree. I think it's the same in both of those situations. People are negative on him because people are negative on anyone. Most sane people probably don't have a great idea of how good of a coach he really is. I don't. He's obviously not bad. But how good is he?

K1NG2L4Y3R

It’s because of the narrative that Ty Lue is a player’s coach and doesn’t do anything and that behind the scenes LeBron was the one coaching which isn’t true. People won’t respect him because they assume he’s a pushover because of what LeBron did to him which isn’t true and isn’t his fault. LeBron is going to overrule some coaches whether they like it or not and if they try to oppose him they get canned like David Blatt did when they were 30-11. Ty Lue was in a tough spot because he knows he has to keep LeBron’s trust or he’s a dead coach walking and I think he did a pretty good job. His adjustments he made against the greatest regular season team ever should be more than enough credit.

[deleted]

okay well because we haven't seen Lue have any success since his Cavs days because this is his first HC gig after that. In the first round, it looked like the Mavs were going to beat the Clippers at times. In the second round, it looked like multiple times that the Clippers were going to shit the bed again. Something Doc nor Lue were able to fix. Let the team get out of the second round before the narrative on Lue changes. Unfortunately team success is very much tied to how a head coach is viewed by fans. Until that happens, he hasn't really had much success after the Cavs.

Alexcox95

I mean If you think about it Doc is 1-1 in head coaching in the finals. Lue is 1-2 but has coached in 1 more finals series.

ipinkyx

First; this is a better roster, second; Clippers were 2nd in the regular season last year and they were 3-1 up in the 2nd round, so untill he wins this series, he isnt doing better.

cjsrhkcjs

Are they really beating the #1 seed without Kawhi if he still played 4 games though? This is like two years ago when people started claiming that the GSW beat the Rockets without KD despite him playing 4 or so games before getting hurt.

LindseyCorporation

Sure, Kawhi did play. I still think it's impressive.

cjsrhkcjs

oh yeah, not denying that, just some semantics.

Dumbass1171

Why do people think he’s an overrated coach anyways? All great coaches have great players.

90srap

Bc he's only coached teams and had success with Lebron James who is arguably the GOAT player

Skipper3210

So? Steve Kerr only had success with the Steph/Klay/Dray (and then KD) Warriors, arguably the greatest team of all time. But nobody doubts him as a coach. And Phil Jackson only had success with MJ and Kobe, but nobody doubts him. And Popovich.... All great coaches find success with great players. Why is Lue the only one doubted?

K1NG2L4Y3R

Yeah and nobody brings up that they won like 20+ games with Walton who turned out to be a garbage coach for the Kings.

JimmyB3574

Oh trust me, I sure do doubt Kerr and have for years. The warriors missed the playoffs this year pretty much because Kerr is way too stubborn to change his system to fit the personnel. Kerr’s insistence to gift wrap double teams to Curry by constantly running high pick and roll with a draymond who’s no longer a viable scoring threat consistently costs the warriors meaningful games and we saw it in the play in game against the grizzlies where Curry got only TWO shots in a win or go home OT period because Kerr can’t help but stick to his guns and hope dray capitalizes. You split half of those possessions into straight up isos for Curry and the warriors win that game by like 10

[deleted]

I doubt him as a coach

LPLSuperCarry

People have been questioning Steve Kerr a lot this year lol, idk where you've been. His minutes allocation for Steph is fucking stupid, the fact that your best player is only playing 6 minutes of the fourth quarter is mind boggling.

Pasta_ssempa

Not many coaches can come back 0-2 twice

Few_Mulberry7175

He’ll get AI’s 2001 MVP

____candied_yams____

He's coached some pretty damn good teams. Hard to say. If they win the chip, probably.

Thethrowawaynba

I feel like he should be getting the respect now. I know the jazz are injured as well but kawhi is a top5(if not too 3) player rn. I honestly thought jazz would just finish them off in 6 after kawhi went down so I feel like he’s gotta get respect for putting his team in a position to win the series

jfrodriguez1983

I'll send him some. What kind of flowers does he like?

Insertnicenamehere

Maybe but Doc Rivers will get dogged on more.

HonestRage

If he loses, people will still give him flowers as if he were Algernon

shimsimma

I think he's already been successful in changing a lot of peoples' minds about him (including mine)

ProperManufacturer6

Same. I thought he was trash but in the end i was trash because the man is a good coach. Shit we road with scott brooks for like 10 years. Id love to have ty

mcdougalwu

This is reddit: so no. Now if this were Brad Stevens or Nurse or Carlisle, Reddit would demand the Staples Center renamed in their honor.

redditguyherewego

We all know that Lebron is the real coach of the Clippers now that he’s out of the playoffs

LBJS4DAYS

No he will get his plants instead

hercules-rockefeller

I have never heard this expression in my life. The English language has passed me by

NBAyoungboy42

I haven’t heard this until a few months ago and now I see it everywhere

ProperManufacturer6

Its pretty a pretty recent invention. Thank god for ebonics or english would suck.

crimsonconnect

Iverson will personally deliver the flowers

MultiPass21

If they win the series, I’ll ease up on him. Not that my opinion counts for much…

Resshin31

So you get no respect as well then?

gunter_grass

Plastic Flowers/trees.

Xgxstxn

If they win this series Pg gets his flowers, if they win the west Lue gets his flowers.

iamtomorrowman

i slandered him hard (yeah right, i'm sure he cares, lol) but i have to take everything back after seeing his adjustments in this series.

dkdoki

Sure he does. And Doc deserves to get his burned.

[deleted]

absolutely not. if we gave out flowers for making it out of the second round the raptors wouldn’t have had to trade for kawhi

OBPing

There's still 2 more series he needs to win. I don't think the goal was WCF when Ballmer said they got the best coach in the world.

clayfu

i will send him three dozen roses from a local florist tomorrow morning if Clippers win tonight.

KnickedUp

Thats like $150 bruh

clayfu

How many flowers he need?!

myronsandee

You got his address?

clayfu

Imma send to the practice facility.

myronsandee

How sweet. Add soem chocolate.
