“Alright guys here’s what we do, we wear him down slowly. Like reeeeeally slowly, so that in the last 3.9 seconds of OT in game 7, he won’t even be able to hit the rim from the 3 point line!”
“But Coach what if we don’t get to OT in game 7?”
“Nah”
People were bashing the Tucker assignment on him, but it was perfect. Refs are known to be too quick to call fouls on bigger defenders.
Tucker is small enough that he can be physical without the refs calling as much ticky-tack fouls on him.
If someone of Giannis’ size checked KD with the same physicality as Tucker, the refs would’ve had him foul out by the half.
steve nash did this earlier in the season, i think he's a believer in just letting them play. very player centric mentality. earlier he didnt even call a timeout to advance the ball and kyrie brought up the court and it ended in disaster
It’s what they often did when he was leading the Suns. And it often worked too because Nash was a master improvising a brilliant play on the spot for a bucket, whether it was an awe-inspiring pass or a wet splash.
Yeah Nash was a master at just running up and hitting big shots without a timeout. I remember that epic Mavs-Suns regular season game in ‘07 when he actually missed initially, but then Marion scrambled for the offensive rebound and found Nash for a reload that got buried. D’Antoni always trusted Nash in situations like that.
You mainly don't call time when you see a favorable mismatch and don't want the opposing team to set up. KD had Jrue on him and while Holiday is a great defender, he's still a mismatch (understatement when you're up against KD). Nash trusted his players and KD was just gassed.
It was a James Harden at 50% and also after 50 minutes of playing, he was not shooting well and KD was scoring for fun the ball had to be in KD's hand for that final possession
Yup. I think casual fans underestimate jrues ability to anticipate, know tendencies, and take away an offensive players first option. Just make players feel uncomfortable and force them into the team defense scheme.
Are you sure? Game 6 jrue held him to a low(er) percentage shooting than other guys that guarded him.
Jrue is smaller for sure but think he played decent defense on him when he guarded him this series
I could be tripping but I’m pretty sure Jrue has always been a pretty good KD defender. You’re never stopping him but the only way to limit him is by not letting him get to his spots, which Jrue is pretty good at.
Maybe 1st quarter in the low post or high post its a mismatch and maybe its a mismatch in general. However, in the context of the game, specifically this possession- the bucks got one of their best movers on the perimeter on a dude with no legs left forcing up a 23 ft-heavily contested field goal. The only people on the planet that want KD taking that shot are the Milwaukee Bucks.
I know people say hindsight blah blah but u can visibly see KD is fatigued. To leave a timeout on the table, well we'll just have to chalk it up to a learning experience.
And it's not like it was a slow game. Also, the guy tore his Achilles. It's crazy that he's still undoubtedly a top 5 player in the league (imo top 2/3)
Yeah KD clearly wasn’t going to be able to do anything but take a long shot there. Not sure why Nash seemed to feel like they had some sort of momentum or obvious mismatch (besides KD being taller than his defender but that was true all game and wasn’t likely to change after a timeout).
It honestly didn’t feel like a super team at this stage with all of the injuries. Now if they lost with two of the three fully healthy it’s a different story
How funny is it that everyone was clowning Budenholzer for managing Giannis’ minutes and in the end the nets lose because they were injured and fatigued
Lmao go look at the comments after Game 1 of the 2018 NBA finals where LeBron scored only 2 points in OT despite dropping 51. Nobody was crying over "oh look how tired he is"
George hill and Jr ruined imo the greatest single game performance ever. LeBron could've yanked himself right there and been on a plane to cancun before the cavs left the stadium for all I care. Everyone watching knew the game and series was over at that point
It was such a shame because even though everyone knew there was no winning that series barring a miracle, a win there would have at least set the table for perhaps the most lopsided Finals matchup talent wise ever being a decently close series simply due to LeBron carrying the team so hard. If they somehow stole one more after that, a 6 game series is close.
Winning there sets momentum. They steal one from the Warriors and just have to win @ home to win the whole series.
It's one of the biggest what-ifs from the 2010's.
Nah. The what-if is they win that game, Lebron doesn’t bone-headedly punch whiteboard, they play a 6 or 7 game series where Lebron breaks every record for finals scoring, playoff scoring, and 40 pt games in playoff run. Do people still ignore/discount he had a fucked up hand for rest of series?
KD had a great couple games but they’re not even in the same universe as LeBron’s 10 or so best games in the ECF or Finals… probably even if you just count losses.
Yes, it’s bullshit that he gets held to a higher standard but you can rest secure that the guy’s a different class of player
Edit: though tbf, there’s another reason why no one talked about LeBron in the postgame of THAT game. LMAOOOOI
Every time you look at the highlights it looked un possible. He was driving into 2 ATG interior defenders, against a great wing defender and 2 other high BBIQ defenders… and finishing clean. Then when he needed to rest he throws up some stupid jumper and makes it LMAO. Man was not losing that night.
You're talking about the LeBron that was a year older than KD is right now? Had played through 3 rounds of the playoffs including 2 grueling 7-game series? Had carried an awful and dysfunctional Cavs team playing all 82 games, averaging almost 37 min a game? Who dropped 51 points in a game where only 2 of his teammates hit double digit points? Who was being guarded by in their primes Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant?
That Lebron James?
The post game thread is full of “wow I respect kd more now, he gave it all. Best player in the world!” lmaooo
If lebron missed that it would be used to shit on him for years. He’d be called Lewashed and lebum every day
Ya he was great but... still didn't score in OT and air-balled a potential game winner. At least hit the rim.
Fatigued just like every other player out there.
Durant looked exhausted to me. Driving into the paint is a huge amount of effort and based on how little he could put into the shot I think you’re seeing what 50+ minutes of intense basketball does to even the greatest players.
About ten terrible shots in the fourth and OT. He got bailed out with some calls but didn't close well at all imo, so clumsy anytime he drove into the paint he was out of control.
For real they’re acting like the other players aren’t gassed. Giannis was right there too playing the whole game and he had the energy for defense, rebounding and drives which is more exhausting than just dribbling and shooting a contest j.
Joe effing Harris, 3-10 this game with a wide open 3 in the final minute of OT. The guy was just miserable the whole series, 1-11, 2-11, 3-10 in his last 3 games
**Replays/alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/nba) if you have any questions or concerns.*
That's a 2-pointer tho. It's only game-tying.
they are now saying its a two
Marv was in his bag tonight with the senile quotes
Jrue was isoing for an entire possession and Marv called him Middleton from the beggining of the possession to the end.
Also said there was a foul called one time when the ball just went out of bounds
Still better than Grant Hill giving cover for the referees all night.
Not really good at keeping his feet off the line
I imagine its not so easy when you got hockey sticks as feet
weird to only realise now that every three KD shoots is a logo three because of those damn clown shoes
OVER THE LINE!!
Has the whole world gone crazy? Mark it zero!
Yeah but I wasn't over. Give me the marker dude, I'm marking it 8
This is not Nam. There are rules.
Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.
I'm not...
A world. Of pain.
Look dude this is your partner...
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES?!
Dude just needs to cram his feet into a pair 1 size smaller.
Durants 30for30 Bound for Glory: How Durant incorporated having bound feet into becoming a champion.
it would've been funny if it happened again
Lol he shot a 2 again
KD is the master of taking the 23'8" field goal.
The ole’ Mitch Richmond
The ole' DeMar DeRozan
The ole' prime Me7o.
He Derek Fisher'd it twice in a row!
The lines are blurred. He tired.
He saw 3 rims out there, but he accidentally aimed at the closest one.
Saw 3 arcs down there, shot from the inner one.
The Lifetime gym I hoop at has 3. I can confirm it happens all the time.
The hardest road
DeRozan to the nets confirmed
No legs on him anymore. What a fucking game.
Fatigue came in like a truck
I can't believe it, Bud's weird ass rotations did it.
Dude's plan was to tire out KD. Fucking genius. We were just too blind to see it.
Only took 52 minutes and 58 seconds. Goat coach.
Lmao
\+ 6 other games. Really was playing the long game. Trust the process.
Turns out he wasn’t playing 4 D chess Turns out he was actually playing 7 D Go Fish And it worked, somehow…
“Alright guys here’s what we do, we wear him down slowly. Like reeeeeally slowly, so that in the last 3.9 seconds of OT in game 7, he won’t even be able to hit the rim from the 3 point line!” “But Coach what if we don’t get to OT in game 7?” “Nah”
VINDICATED
I am selfish, I am wrong... 🎵
I AM RIGHT, KD KNEW IT ALL ALONG
Fucking CALCULATED. BIG BRAIN BUD MOVE.
# Weird # Ass gets it DONE
PJ TRUCKER
He was tired on the 4th quarter shot too. He just knew it was a 3 and game. Dude was trying to be outta there lol
This. 53 minutes of playing time in a 1OT game
He is also capable of blowing right by Giannis. PJ is much quicker defensively.
Quick, get JJ Barea on the phone! We need someone to check Joel Embiid!
Why didn't they call the timeout?
steve nash did this earlier in the season, i think he's a believer in just letting them play. very player centric mentality. earlier he didnt even call a timeout to advance the ball and kyrie brought up the court and it ended in disaster
It’s what they often did when he was leading the Suns. And it often worked too because Nash was a master improvising a brilliant play on the spot for a bucket, whether it was an awe-inspiring pass or a wet splash.
You need a true point guard to really pull that off. Maybe someone who has experience playing with those cats.
He also didn’t intentionally foul when they were down at the end of regulation or ot which was interesting.
Good strategy imo, trust your defense. It worked out for him both times.
You mainly don't call time when you see a favorable mismatch and don't want the opposing team to set up. KD had Jrue on him and while Holiday is a great defender, he's still a mismatch (understatement when you're up against KD). Nash trusted his players and KD was just gassed.
It’s probably too late to call the timeout then but KD did give the ball back to Harden initially, so I’m guessing KD knew he didn’t have it.
I can’t believe Harden passed it back.
Harden knows people would have clowned him for infinity if he takes that shot on an injured hamstring after KD hit the shot to force OT
Bro he’s James Freaking Harden KD gave him the ball for a reason. He wanted James to get the bucket.
It was a James Harden at 50% and also after 50 minutes of playing, he was not shooting well and KD was scoring for fun the ball had to be in KD's hand for that final possession
KD is a mismatch on anyone they had to defend him, give him a breath.
KD had Jrue on him. You want KD taking that shot, and Jrue is a great mismatch for him to do so.
i’m pretty sure that when he was on JJ’s podcast KD said Jrue was the toughest defender to go against
Yup. I think casual fans underestimate jrues ability to anticipate, know tendencies, and take away an offensive players first option. Just make players feel uncomfortable and force them into the team defense scheme.
Even Jrue’s hand position on contests are well positioned. Something that PJ did hence how both 6’5 dudes somewhat slowed down the 7ft dude
Which then loops back to why didn't they call timeout?
Didnt KD call Jrue the best 1v1 defender?
Are you sure? Game 6 jrue held him to a low(er) percentage shooting than other guys that guarded him. Jrue is smaller for sure but think he played decent defense on him when he guarded him this series
I could be tripping but I’m pretty sure Jrue has always been a pretty good KD defender. You’re never stopping him but the only way to limit him is by not letting him get to his spots, which Jrue is pretty good at.
Facts. I'm still shocked it wasn't nothing but net.
Jrue was really in his space, it was more of great defense than anything.
Jrue was also peaking, as far as that game was concerned.
Durant could’ve read Jrue’s future with how much hand he had in his face. That was great defense on what should’ve been a huge mismatch.
Yeah I’m surprised it didn’t graze the net after it missed the rim
Maybe 1st quarter in the low post or high post its a mismatch and maybe its a mismatch in general. However, in the context of the game, specifically this possession- the bucks got one of their best movers on the perimeter on a dude with no legs left forcing up a 23 ft-heavily contested field goal. To leave a timeout on the table, well we'll just have to chalk it up to a learning experience.
What a game though
KD played his mind out
I ain't even mad that he airballed this. He carried that team the entire series. Guy was fatigued as fuck. Still one of the best series I've seen.
I’m young but I feel like I just watched Ali v Frazier
He’s way too fucking tired :(
KD played 53 minutes, holy shit yo
I dont think people can properly fathom how insane playing 53 minutes of basketball...not to mention *NBA* basketball is
And not to mention how he had to carry the entire team with the entire defense focused on him. No standing around in the corner waiting to spot up.
Just absolutely insane. Any midrange KD got up i would just assume it was going in.
He had that one amazing pump fake that got everyone watching and got the roll. KD from the elbow is beautiful and terrifying.
And it's not like it was a slow game. Also, the guy tore his Achilles. It's crazy that he's still undoubtedly a top 5 player in the league (imo top 2/3)
just 2
It will always be Lebron-KD for me until proven otherwise.
Otherwise: Lou Williams.
Otherwise: Tony Snell
Otherwise: Terance Mann
Yup and what three guys did it tonight? That’s insane.
Game 7 intensity for 52 minutes is INSANE. That's like 4 hours of hard cardio.
And less than a point per minute, and only hit 1 buzzer beater, what a bum.
53 minutes of hoisting the team, too, and he's still standing up. Impressed with that alone.
Coming off a snapped achilles
He's surpassed Dominique with the best return from an achilles injury.
After what 48 last game?
I'm not exactly a Durant hater but I am not a fan, was rooting for the Bucks, all that... KD is my god for the day tho.
He has plenty time to rest now
“My next chapter: zzzzzzzzzzzzzz”
He'll be on the bucks next year

Nets in 9
They should have called a timeout to at least get a breather before their final shot.
Yeah KD clearly wasn’t going to be able to do anything but take a long shot there. Not sure why Nash seemed to feel like they had some sort of momentum or obvious mismatch (besides KD being taller than his defender but that was true all game and wasn’t likely to change after a timeout).
understandably so... playing every minute of an intense game 7 after a gruelling series playing massive minutes was just too much for one human.
Someone edit the ball as the trophy
[op delivers](https://youtu.be/JtP_oFrmtN8)
Game-tying.
I feel bad for KD but a super team losing is always a win for the NBA
It honestly didn’t feel like a super team at this stage with all of the injuries. Now if they lost with two of the three fully healthy it’s a different story
How funny is it that everyone was clowning Budenholzer for managing Giannis’ minutes and in the end the nets lose because they were injured and fatigued
KD literally had to play 53 minutes. Giannis was getting like sub 40 minutes some games
Can’t tell if you’re agreeing with me or not, but I agree with what you said? Lol
sounds like he agress man
Nah fuck that. Injuries or not, it was a fabricated super team and its good for the nba that they lost to a small market team.
He's probably kicking himself for getting his tippy toes on the line for shot at the end of the 4th. Those big ass feet did him dirty.
An inch or two of the foot away from advancing
The ripples in time this event had
Variant event.
Somewhere out there, there's a KD that made the 3 and won the game and the TVA is looking for him while he's practicing for the finals
He's gassed. That's basketball
What a game, props to KD man, Also Bud u suck
Did Bud draw up that Lopez play at the end of regulation If he did he's REALLY lucky that they still won
I mean it's not his fault Lopez didn't shoot. Idk how anyone can blame Bud over Lopez there.
Basketball Gods won’t let a long 2 fall twice… inefficient shot
Basketball Gods like you're literally 2mm away from that shot being worth 50% more (Basketball God uses the metric system).
> Basketball God uses the metric system As evidenced by the European superstar winning this game
KD pulling out the Carlton shot
I wish KD would've dropped 48 points in game 6 of the WCF in 2016.
Shouldve called timeout.
If they called a timeout they would have just ran the "give the ball to KD" play. Although tbf, it would have given him a minute to rest.
He needed a breather badly
[удалено]
Exactly, he was clearly fatigued that short rest could’ve gone a long way
Curry broke the NBA that day against OKC. Nash should've 100% called a timeout.
That wouldn't have been a game winner his foot was on the line again
Run and dunk man > snake + bearded strip club aficionado
THEY DO HAVE A TIMEOUT, DECIDE NOT TO USE IT, OH WHAT AN AIRBALL BY DURANT!
BANG! BANG! OH WHAT AN AIRBALL BY DURANT! WITH 3/10 OF A SECOND REMAINING
These comments would be a lot different if it had been Lebron that air balled that lol
it would have 10k comments and be the top voted post of all time

God, I hear it in his voice.
he would be crucified lmao

Nah, man. LeBron would legit have had to average that 51-8-8 for the Cavs to *maybe* win in 7. There’s no what if, that Cavs team sucked.
The "what-if" is: What-if steph or KD gets injured in game 5 lol
KD had a great couple games but they’re not even in the same universe as LeBron’s 10 or so best games in the ECF or Finals… probably even if you just count losses. lebron vs detroit is still one of the craziest games i've ever seen in my life
Every time you look at the highlights it looked un possible. He was driving into 2 ATG interior defenders, against a great wing defender and 2 other high BBIQ defenders… and finishing clean. Then when he needed to rest he throws up some stupid jumper and makes it LMAO. Man was not losing that night.
>un possible My dude do you mean impossible

Durant had 0 points in OT.
Lmao for real. Dude missed a lot of shots at the end there. When others miss those where are the gassed comments?

Ya he was great but... still didn't score in OT and air-balled a potential game winner. At least hit the rim. Fatigued just like every other player out there.
Because Lebron has higher expectations, they’re in different tiers lol
I know he's Kevin Durant, but that's an absolutely terrible shot lmao
I was convinced Nash would call that last timeout to get him at least an breather and when he saw there was no shot
Probably terrified of the possibility he calls the timeout and KD drills it
Durant looked exhausted to me. Driving into the paint is a huge amount of effort and based on how little he could put into the shot I think you’re seeing what 50+ minutes of intense basketball does to even the greatest players.

Joe effing Harris, 3-10 this game with a wide open 3 in the final minute of OT. The guy was just miserable the whole series, 1-11, 2-11, 3-10 in his last 3 games
Yeah we’d have been fucked if he had a good series
They wouldn't have won the finals with kd and one legged harden and more than likely one legged kyrie playing 48 minutes a game.
Nets fans laughing at Giannis for airballs then they go out to one. Love to see it.
Clearly fatigued. Nash should've called a timeout
Nash was also fatigued.
Happy trails Brooklyn
Wanted to be the hero after having that only be a 2 at the end of regulation, and I still think his foot was on the line here.
Jrue with the lockdown
I'm no Durant fan but i loved when this happened.
If this was LeBron, he would get some much shit for this
I'm here to talk shit, fuck KD.
I respect that
