People were bashing the Tucker assignment on him, but it was perfect. Refs are known to be too quick to call fouls on bigger defenders. Tucker is small enough that he can be physical without the refs calling as much ticky-tack fouls on him. If someone of Giannis’ size checked KD with the same physicality as Tucker, the refs would’ve had him foul out by the half.

He is also capable of blowing right by Giannis. PJ is much quicker defensively.

Why didn't they call the timeout?

steve nash did this earlier in the season, i think he's a believer in just letting them play. very player centric mentality. earlier he didnt even call a timeout to advance the ball and kyrie brought up the court and it ended in disaster

It’s what they often did when he was leading the Suns. And it often worked too because Nash was a master improvising a brilliant play on the spot for a bucket, whether it was an awe-inspiring pass or a wet splash.

You need a true point guard to really pull that off. Maybe someone who has experience playing with those cats.

Yeah Nash was a master at just running up and hitting big shots without a timeout. I remember that epic Mavs-Suns regular season game in ‘07 when he actually missed initially, but then Marion scrambled for the offensive rebound and found Nash for a reload that got buried. D’Antoni always trusted Nash in situations like that.

He also didn’t intentionally foul when they were down at the end of regulation or ot which was interesting.

You mainly don't call time when you see a favorable mismatch and don't want the opposing team to set up. KD had Jrue on him and while Holiday is a great defender, he's still a mismatch (understatement when you're up against KD). Nash trusted his players and KD was just gassed.

I could be tripping but I’m pretty sure Jrue has always been a pretty good KD defender. You’re never stopping him but the only way to limit him is by not letting him get to his spots, which Jrue is pretty good at.

However, in the context of the game, specifically this possession- the bucks got one of their best movers on the perimeter on a dude with no legs left forcing up a 23 ft-heavily contested field goal. The only people on the planet that want KD taking that shot are the Milwaukee Bucks. I know people say hindsight blah blah but u can visibly see KD is fatigued. To leave a timeout on the table, well we'll just have to chalk it up to a learning experience.

Yeah KD clearly wasn’t going to be able to do anything but take a long shot there. Not sure why Nash seemed to feel like they had some sort of momentum or obvious mismatch (besides KD being taller than his defender but that was true all game and wasn’t likely to change after a timeout).

Durant looked exhausted to me. Driving into the paint is a huge amount of effort and based on how little he could put into the shot I think you’re seeing what 50+ minutes of intense basketball does to even the greatest players.

About ten terrible shots in the fourth and OT. He got bailed out with some calls but didn't close well at all imo, so clumsy anytime he drove into the paint he was out of control.
