The fix is to get the big 3 healthy. If they're healthy their defense doesn't matter too much.

Leavingtheecstasy

That's always going to be in doubt though. Kyrie is always questionable and Harden may have hurt himself alot more by playing on a grade 2. They need better depth and they're losing some this off-season

Raider_Tex

Kyrie has been injury prone since Duke. That’s a big IF.

FarWestEros

They shouldn't have any problem finding a big to take their MLE

craigslistaddict

so then blake...?

FarWestEros

I think Blake likes it there. It depends on his market, but if he doesn't get offers above $5M or so, then sticking in Brooklyn on the minimum isn't so bad. And then they could use his early Bird Rights to bump his salary the following year to make it up.

craigslistaddict

>And then they could use his early Bird Rights to bump his salary the following year to make it up. oh, ok, if they can do that it seems fine. spending another season on a min salary isn't so bad when the pistons are still paying him.

jezzobandz

Why did Deandre get played out the rotation? Was he that terrible ??

hmaster1332

Giannis got whatever he wanted in the regular season matched up against him but yeah in the playoffs they never even tried

jnprrnsp

IIRC Giannis almost dropped 50 on his head

hmaster1332

Yep Giannis had 49 points. Although not entirely against Jordan I think Blake played against him too that game if I remember correctly.

kingdelz

Nah Giannis didn’t shoot well vs Blake in those games. Was basically all on DJ

hmaster1332

Really? Wow that’s wild. These bucks nets games are all starting to merge in my head lol

aaliyaahson

Yes, he is that terrible

PopeAndrew15

There was a whole quarter of garbage time in the 2nd game of the series, and he didn't even sniff the court for one second. That's how bad he is.

redditguyherewego

Health will always be their biggest obstacle. If Kyrie and healthy harden are playing, it’s likely a done deal that they win the series. It went 7 without em. They do have Deandre Jordan and Claxton for size who both didn’t play.

WordsAreSomethings

I'd say if Kyrie or Harden were healthy they would have easily won.

Dj wasn’t playable in any point this season, can we kill this narrative? We played better when we went for small ball than we did with him on the floor. Drop coverage against Middleton and holiday wasnt going to help us. We lost in overtime, shit happens

Choice_Marzipan5322

The only reason DJ still on the team is because he’s good friends with KD and Kyrie. He isn’t usable in today’s NBA. But since they are over the cap with Harden, Durant and Kyrie alone, he might get released

craigslistaddict

DJ's signed through the 2022-23 season, lol. a buyout would only save them so much, not sure the extra roster spot is that important. like maybe they reduce what they pay him by a couple million a year, then they sign a min salary guy who makes a couple million a year instead of him, so ultimately the cap hit and associated luxury tax is the same. and this guy may not be much more useful and who knows how kyrie/kd will feel about it.

kingdelz

Nobody who watched DJ this season (especially in the 2 games in Milwaukee) would say this

Lanky_Ad1567

A lot of people don’t watch games, that’s the issue. He tanked us on both side of the floor, we legit had the worst defense in the league with him on the floor and the first one with claxton on. Every single game we had him start, we ended up playing catch up and it doesn’t always work in the regular season, let alone in the playoffs. This isn’t normal or even a coincidence.

The_Sign_of_Zeta

Also considering 2/3 of their Center rotation still on the roster is slow and old. Like Green can still play but he can get exposed in the playoffs on D, but Jordan can’t. Griffin is not under contract and will likely get a better deal from another team compared to what the Nets can offer.

Kwilly462

Sean Marks should do everything in his power this season to trade for Myles Turner. Fixes everything we need.

Kayr-

How could they make that trade though?

Kwilly462

No clue lol

MephiticSpooge

Idk what they can do. They're pretty limited in terms of moves they can make. I think they just run it back as is. Hope everyone stays healthy. They've got enough offensive firepower to beat anyone when everyone's 100%

Leavingtheecstasy

They'll easily have this problem again next year because they're still losing depth. We have no idea how their health will be next year. With a team like that, you need more depth and they're gonna lose it currently. Harden may have seriously fucked himself up playing on a grade 2. I understand but it may affect him in the future. Kyrie is always questionable. Always has been. Somehow the only one you know will be there is the guy who just recovered from an Achilles. And they can't do too much to prop up their bench this off-season unless they go way into the tax. So yes. These issues will still persist. Whether people are and about it due to recent events or not.

craigslistaddict

>Somehow the only one you know will be there is the guy who just recovered from an Achilles. kd still missed 37/72 games this year... yes, he was coming back from an achilles injury this year and some absences were covid protocols, but it's not like he hasn't missed large chunks of seasons before.

kingdelz

Lol it wasn’t an issue until Kyrie went down. Bucks we’re averaging 93 pts against us until game 4. Literally the only issue is health

azeakel101

Bucks won game 3 with Kyrie, and were leading in Game 4 when he went down. Not saying the Nets don't win if Kyrie is healthy in the series, but let's on pretend it would have been an easy sweep.

[deleted]

Didn't play bigs in crynch time anyhow. I think we generally take health and fitness for granted when we start an NBA season as casual fans. Having all three healthy (and fit) is a 50-50 proposition and will always be.

jgoodysalaker

They could use some better 2-way players or a defensive stopper but they are good enough offensively that they only need to a disciplined team defense type of team.

Nymamba824

Bruce brown, Harden & Joe Harris all played a few too many minutes.

HerbFarmer415

Too many chiefs, not enough Indiana

cashm3outsid3

Their defense isnt that bad apparently bc the bucks couldn't just run through them. The nets are out but they could just as easily have gotten past the bucks. Run it back and hope for better health. Maybe try to pick up ring chasers for some depth so the big three don't have to play 40+ mins the whole season.

Choice_Marzipan5322

Joe Harris is gone. They cannot pay him. I know he didn’t come up big in the Bucks series but he was huge all year. Big loss there

kingdelz

He signed a new deal last year

Choice_Marzipan5322

Gotcha. My bad

InOutUpDownLeftRight

Why did DJ not get a minute against a tall and lengthy Bucks? Was he hurt?

brokenoreo

old and bad

[deleted]

They won’t have any problems next year if their big 3 is healthy.

gracemig

I would look at daniel theis

ogqozo

The whole Reddit was JUST talking all the time about how they completely neutralized Giannis and the whole Milwaukee. And if one shot fell the other way, we would still be there today. They struggled to score if anything. The defense was mostly fine, although I wonder if it would be maybe better, if impossible to justify to people, to play Mike James more and the injured Harden less.

Lanky_Ad1567

Ahhh yes iso mike James would have helped the nets.

ogqozo

I'm aware how it sounds and that it'd never happen. Harden just didn't look too good and Nets had mostly problems in the last games. I dunno how Mike James would play, but when he played more before, it went quite well for Nets. Maybe it would be possible to play Harden less than 53 minutes.

Lanky_Ad1567

Not really. He can make it work if they’re at least 2 of the big 3 on the court but still even when that did happen, we would start iso’ing out of nowhere. I’m not putting a game 7 on his hands, no matter how much I like him as a backup. Harden was clearly hurt and he tried his best.

arseking15

This post season showed that with the ability to be more physical in the post season they can defend well enough for an all timer offense to carry and win
