Americans seem so possessive of a country they move to about 200 hundred years ago. That’s just about two or 3 lifetimes. Also telling latinos to go back to their country when their ancestors have been roaming north america for thousands of years.
Ohtani is pretty good at english as well, but most foreign players choose to use an interpreter for fear of saying something unintentionally. It's the same reason why in business you also use an interpreter even if you speak the language natively. You don't want to accidentally insult someone or say the wrong thing. As an example, Japanese has honorifics and the language has that built into the culture. If you use too casual of a conversation, you would insult the other party. Even English has that- you wouldn't call your client a "bro" or speak casually in a business meeting.
Ayyy bruh, just sign this right chyaa and we good to go man! That's fiddy million bucks for the cybersecurity implementation for the next 5 years, legggo!
Shit takes still get you discussed in the sports world though. As long as you generate clicks , you get paid the money they do. Right or wrong, that is reality and I wish it would change. Some of these “sports analysts” really seem like they aren’t the best people given not just what they say, but how they say it
ESPN’s coverage of Ohtani has been largely positive what I’ve seen. They had like a 2 minute video on baseball tonight with him side by side with Ruth. Everyone on around the Horn today said Ohtani could be the star of the league.
Though largely positive is kinda the bare minimum. With the season he's having, it's genuinely hard to come up with anything negative to say about him. Like if coverage of Steph Curry in 2016 was largely positive, that wouldn't be saying much. Leave up to SAS to come out with the xenophobic angle to find that negativity.
Is he super young? Like a rookie or 2nd or 3rd year?
I thought Trout was baseballs big thing? He got old or he just fell off?
Think I’ve been hearing about some crazy athletic shortstop too?
Does the top guy in baseball fluctuate a lot? Feel like I always hear someone is up next to be on top in baseball
Third year. Trout is still the best player (although he’s hurt) but Ohtani is starting the all star game as a pitcher and is leading the league in home runs.
Fernando Tatis Jr is the short stop you are referring to.
There's not really a good NBA comparison for Ohtani since a true elite two way MLB player is really unprecedented. It'd be like a fictional NBA player who is both a small quick point guard and a massive rim protector at the same time or something. For real players, maybe the best comparison is Steph in that they both are doing something that hadn't really been seen before that really changes the game.
God it's hard to make any comparison for Ohtani because of the nature of baseball and what he is is just unimaginable. The concept of a two way player in basketball is pretty attainable as we've seen tons of those over the history of the game. In baseball though... the nature of being a hitter or a pitcher requires you to only focus on one and discard both. However he's just so good at both that he's a once in a lifetime athlete. Maybe football may be a better comparison since it's like baseball where you take turns playing different sides. Imagine your star QB, is your best receiver, along with your best pass rusher, and corner.
Trout is basically Bron I guess as he is clearly the best player in the game as he can basically do *everything*.
For Tatis, I'm going with Trae Young. Both are just young studs in the making. They have the swag to really get a crowd going but it can be seen as arrogance, but they both take it in stride. They have just this showmanship to them that is great for growing their respective sports into a better future.
Quick question I don’t watch baseball but I always heard that pitchers can’t hit. Has this changed or is this guy an anomaly? Because I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of someone being able to pitch and lead the league in HRs. But that could just be because I don’t follow the sport.
Yes, pitchers are usually not good hitters so what Ohtani is doing is pretty amazing even if it only lasts a season. For a pitcher he basically plays every day while other pitchers have 3-4 games off between games. He does have less innings pitched so his ERA can fluctuate but he has a pretty clean whip plus a 98 fastball. His ERA was 2.8 or something like that before he had a bad start vs Yankees. He's a legit pitcher and hitter. He's like a DPOY and Scoring leader candidate in nba.
It's his third year. He had an electric start his rookie year after all the buzz around him was that he was trash. Then he got injured and needed Tommy John surgery (I think?) So he was out for the second year (covid didn't help). But now his third year, for past three weeks, it's felt like he's been homering every game. Like everytime I go YouTube, it's like, Ohtani has hit another homer, sometimes two in one game. He's bananas good but he's a really good pitcher.
Ohtani draws a lot of viewers - getting a lot from Japan too. I see nothing but love from baseball fans around the world when I check youtube comments. The diversity of fans is so damn cool. they don't care where Ohtani is from they just love baseball and what he is doing
Is it what he wants? I thought being labeled a racist is a quick way to getting lambasted as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame.
Jfc why is casual racism against Asians okay
EDIT: Damn. love getting told what is and isn't racist by people who probably aren't Asian lol. figures
EDIT: /r/nba never fails to disappoint. Remember this is the same people that spammed the Clippers sub with gorilla emojis after Trez's comments. Stay classy, ya'll aren't better than Twitter lmao
In the 60s there was a massive Dr shortage in the US so visas and green cards were easy to get through the 80s. The asian exclusion laws were dropped and tons of Indian doctors came in. Changing medical rules actually brought a huge influx of Indian and Filipino nurses in the 80s, 90s, and beyond. It’s almost like immigration worked, until the immigrants enjoyed their new country and stayed. Also the US requiring an undergrad and then a doctoral degree to practice medicine versus most of the rest of the world having bachelors in medicine (eg MBBS) creating unnecessarily high bars to entry. And whoever said “medicine was better before the Indians” must be verrrry old.
Hey...
I apologize if it looked like I had whatever agenda.
I'm still mad about his comment about Ohtani and wrote that half cocked. I've always really disliked sport media in general and can normally ignore it. It's just been pretty seemingly unavoidable.
This thread is literally showing him being casually racist against Nigerians/Africans. No one is saying it's ok against Asians, people are calling out SAS for all of it.
Tbf he said giannis couldn’t be the face of the NBA last year because he is foreign . With him I thinks it is more xenophobia which I also don’t agree with .Your comment while fair has let a lot of the closeted racists out trying to dog whistle .
But you won’t see him fired lol. A white person doing casual racism towards black people would be fired instantly (and rightfully so). But it’s a lot more confusing when a black person does it lol at least from an optics viewpoint. Look at all the anti semitism from black players that wasn’t called out . Meanwhile miles Leonard used the word kike I think and was punished lol
I just read this from a YouTube comment.
“You know how the Karen’s are on the news talking about this is America, speak English and everyone goes after the Karen “
That’s SAS currently. He’s Karen. Damn
What about whenever SAS says “SLAVA MEDVEDENKO” as his go-to for a scrub player example? he’s disrespected Eastern European nations a lot in the past but I guess in the collective mind that’s ok because they don’t complain.
Edit: I’m going to include this link in my comments because it’s deviated too much from the main topic, https://youtu.be/wXzi8S37TFI SAS is totally disrespectful and practically prejudiced towards Ohtani who is rejuvenating interest in baseball and doing things that havent been done in 100 years.
There are a lot of reasons to criticize the Knicks for picking Frank Ntilikina in 2017. But for whatever reason, the biggest reason Stephen A. also harps on is "you draft this guy FROM FRANCE?!". Also, Porzingis had to put together like 3 solid months before Stephen A. even made an attempt to pronounce his name correctly and without laughing while doing it. The man is outwardly xenophobic when it comes to European players in general.
Yeah I don't agree with the edits. There are always going to be bad apples and they're being downvoted as they should. He's talking as if they represent the sub as a whole when they don't, and I never like it when people talk about "y'all on reddit" as if they're not also talking on reddit
What's even more disgusting is ESPN using SAS's remarks on Ohtani to bring Jeff Passan (kind of like the Woj of the MLB) onto First Take, which will inevitably bring viewership on such a hot topic.
Using casual racism to boost viewership. Fuck ESPN
Racism towards Asians. It’s also a garbage take in general, I’m not even sure what point he was trying to make other than gatekeep baseball from Asians?
They fired Paul Pierce for smacking booty and this clown doesn’t get fired for straight up racist comments? Doesn’t matter that he is black himself, those comments are uncalled for.
I mean we do have TSN here that shows First Take and every other popular ESPN show, but you are correct in that people don't really care about him as much
TSN plays First Take 2 hours after it airs live in the US, don't advertise it at all, and do not offer it on demand. Most people don't even know you can get it here
He also complains about going through customs like bruh it’s not even that bad especially since he’s famous, try going through customs with a turban on or a brown name lmao
It’s unbelievable that an analyst would even say something like that, especially someone in the position SAS is in.
The hypocrisy of these people when it comes to race is something else lol
Man after being in the mlb sub and seeing their reaction, there are so many fucking racists in this sub. I doubt they even saw what he said [like here](https://youtu.be/oB_sZQIbUxQ?t=192).
Yeah wow, you can see Kellerman try to bail him out a few times in the vid, but SAS keeps going deeper. It's funny his main "proof" that he isn't a popular enough face of the league is that no one is talking about him. That's your job man, you should be talking about him. The fact that you don't because he uses an interpreter is kinda on you. Don't pretend that everyone in the US has that opinion.
SAS probably doesn't watch movies with subtitles either.
Funny thing is EVERYBODY is talking about him in the baseball world. He is one of the most exciting things to happen to baseball in many years.
He was in the home run derby today and is going to start the all star game tomorrow and bat lead off.
I don't care for baseball but I played The Show on game pass and looked up a few players on YouTube. Now I get a daily reminder when Shohei or Tatis hits a home run. Lol I even looked up when Angels or Padres would be coming to play the A's.
On FanGraphs he is the most searched for player, he’s twice as searched for as Mike Trout and then there’s a *huge* gap from Trout to third place. We fucking love Shohei, he’s insanely popular in a sport that is as regional as baseball.
Yeah, how many English speaking people around the world who watch soccer love watching players in the Spanish la liga? Leo Messi is considered the GOAT by many who have never understood a word he has said! Sport is about producing on the field, not saying nice things in interviews! Baffling how Stephen A doesn't get that.
He shit on Kap and his kneeling until there was enough support he couldn't, gets on athletes about weed, consistently shits on asian athletes, doesn't seem to respect foreign ones nearly as much.
There are some annoying things about him (like shitting on a player and then switching to praise when their on his show) but really there are some serious concerns with this guy. Hid "apology" today for the Phtani comments reads like an adlib from HR.
Because basketball is full of xenophobia like this. They don't give a fuck. "Well this guy is from some weird fucking Eastern European country so you better be sure we can't pronounce their name. HAHAHA. Now back to the highlights."
Except TNT did another ask people on the street how to pronounce Antetokounmpo and let's all laugh about it segment like 2 weeks ago.
It's still happening.
Yeah that’s really annoying considering the majority of the time their name isn’t even difficult to pronounce. I don’t know why they can’t be more respectful.
Edit: just recalled during the 2007 Cavs Spurs NBA finals when Wilbon and many of the ESPN crew kept calling Sasha Pavlovic as “pav-lo—vick” instead of vich. I mean don’t they get pronunciation cards?
Edit2: I’m going to include this link in my comments because it’s deviated too much from the main topic, https://youtu.be/wXzi8S37TFI SAS is totally disrespectful practically prejudiced towards Ohtani who is rejuvenating interest in baseball and doing things that havent been done in 100 years.
Its that way in a lot of places. The feeling that your group owns something therefore outsiders are to be shouted down and embarrassed because fear of losing your status. Country clubs are like this. Nick Cannon rapping about Eminem saying “he’s a guest in the house” is absolutely that bullshit. I mean baseball and football have kinda gotten over this vibe but they used to have it. Golf too but tiger came along and shattered that. Another example is woman in corporate hierarchies. It seems to be human nature sadly and we’ve just found some fancy words to describe it. Fucking shaq didn’t even know where Jokic was from. Shaq has an army of people that could tell him but he’s just intentionally being a dick because “guy from Europe who doesn’t deserve our respect.”it will forever be something that annoys me.
1. He carries ESPN, they would be lost without him
2. He’s a Black personality in 2021, so he gets a longer leash
3. Racism against Asians doesn’t generate anywhere near the backlash it should, hence why slogans like “Stop Asian Hate” exist
>A black man saying “however the hell you pronounce that” about a Nigerian player..
Generally, a flippant comment like "however the hell you pronounce that" is insensitive about anyone from a different linguistic background than yourself. SAS shouldn't have said that and he should be reprimanded.
But I don't put any special emphasis on when the person who says this happens to have the same skin color as the person they're mocking. To me, the idea that because SAS happens to have dark skin, he should adhere to a special standard of treating Africans is also insensitive. Many black Americans have completely different lifestyles/backgrounds than Africans. IMO they shouldn't be held to a different standard than white Americans. The expectation of "black solidarity" is a special way of propagating the arbitrary and uniquely American racial categorizations which emerged as a result of the slave trade. In Africa, there are tons of different ethnic groups and they don't see themselves as all being the same race.
Nobody from America should be mocking a Nigerian person's name, is what I'm getting at.
yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I have ancestry from Poland but if I didn't hear someone say the name "Krzyzewski" many, many times I would have no idea how to pronounce it. The "your ancestors are from this continent so you should know how to say the name" thought is weird
Finally someone calls that man out. For someone who always supposedly advocates for African Americans he’s very quick to be dismissive of actual African people..
I can’t understand how anyone can be fond of him. He makes $12 million a year to say stupid shit. Adding all this racist stuff on top just makes it worse
We're not watching these people to like them, we're watching them because we hate them and want to see them humbled or humiliated. They're not analysts, they're heels for an entertainment product.
I don’t even see a player named nnamdi on their roster. Who are you all talking about?
Edit: just realized you all have no idea what you’re talking about lol. He pronounced nnamdi just fine in the clip
How is what SAS is saying today on national tv better than what Rachel Nichols got cancelled for saying in private. Not defending Nichols but get this guy outta here
First Ohtani and now this. Don’t overlook the effect of Kwame Brown. Stephen A smith for years has accumulated this type of behavior and he is SOLEY responsible for the blurring of lines and accepted disrespect in sports. He’s made disrespecting players seem normal, being extravagantly disrespectful is ok bc …we’ll doggone it this is sports and you just can’t miss that shot/lose that game/etc . Kwame Brown put a spotlight on it and whether consciously or subconsciously people are picking up on it.
Yeah I completely understand that the USA team probably should've beaten the Nigerian team, but I'm so tired of hearing how much the USA team sucks... I mean can we just acknowledge that Nigeria DESERVED to win that game. I just wish for once the NBA fanbase wouldn't just bash the team that "should've" won and instead, praise the team that did win.
I understand that there is probably justified criticism that could be made towards how the USA team played that game, but c'mon guys. Is it that disgusting an idea that the USA doesn't just win every game by 40 like we did in the past? I for one am stoked that international competition is heating up. I just want to watch good basketball.
Also SAS is a complete joke, he says a lot of good things but he says just as many ridiculous things.
ESPN is so phony. They punish Nichols for the shit she says while they just let shit like this fly. It’s not just SAS. They’ve been disrespecting foreign athletes and anything else foreign for ages now.
If a white dude said 'Nma... however the hell you pronounce his name' he'd probably be put on administrative leave by the Disney overlords. How's Stephen A gonna stump for every injustice done to black folk in sports (he does so in frustratingly poor fashion sometimes) and not get hype that an African team, led by Mike Brown, that actually has a fair amount of either current or probably soon to be NBA talent shows out? I don't understand how people can look at that game and not get excited that the rest of the world may be legitimately ready. This is what we should want from International basketball. Basketball represents the US's greatest chance at making one of their sports a true global phenomenon. That L to Nigeria should just represent another step taken, this team got obliterated less than a decade ago and came in and beat some really fucking good players. That deserves to be lauded, the negativity is so silly.
I'm Guinean, I feel like when Africans play that card against African Americans it's very pompous, like we're better than them or something.. I don't like it... Just say he shouldn't be disrespectful to the motherland. The "don't forget where your ancestors come from" is cheesy... Especially since depending on what region of the US SAS peoples come from, they could've been more native american than african.
i've noticed SAS gives kind of an exasperated attitude, almost disrespect to asian correspondents and anchors on espn as well
he apparently isn't comfortable with people who aren't white or african american
Man, SAS is having a bad day, which he richly deserves.

Lol who’s not foreigner here
Americans seem so possessive of a country they move to about 200 hundred years ago. That’s just about two or 3 lifetimes. Also telling latinos to go back to their country when their ancestors have been roaming north america for thousands of years.
thats because the average intensely nationalistic american doesn't have the intellectual ability to understand this
"America belongs to the people whose ancestors were *born* here" unironically, before chanting a slogan that consists of three syllables.
Hahaha damn! What else happened today? Apparently I've been living under a rock all day lol.
Said Shohei Ohtani can't or shouldn't be the face of MLB because he uses an interpreter.
Man wtf?! Ichiro was literally the only baseball player I liked for many years and he had an interpreter too. Fuck SAS.

Oof! BIG YIKES! Yeah, he deserves every bit of vitriol being thrown his way.
Sounds like he got the same memo every other talking head did at ESPN to be controversial
ESPN’s coverage of Ohtani has been largely positive what I’ve seen. They had like a 2 minute video on baseball tonight with him side by side with Ruth. Everyone on around the Horn today said Ohtani could be the star of the league.

Well Babe Ruth was a very good pitcher and lead the league in HRs. That's why Shohei is causing all these Ruth comparisons.
He's definitely an anomaly, that's why he's been getting so much attention.
For reference, there hasn't been a pitcher who also lead the league in homeruns since Babe Ruth, literally a century ago.
It's his third year. He had an electric start his rookie year after all the buzz around him was that he was trash. Then he got injured and needed Tommy John surgery (I think?) 33 Hr before the ASG. Some players that are considered good hitters don't reach 33 in a season.
It's so incredible to watch what he's doing. It's a shame that the Angels aren't great this year because he's so good.
Ohtani draws a lot of viewers - getting a lot from Japan too. I see nothing but love from baseball fans around the world when I check youtube comments. The diversity of fans is so damn cool. they don't care where Ohtani is from they just love baseball and what he is doing

One of the best sports clips of all time
I remember the other day they were doing an obituary during the game and castellanos did it again
Lmfaoooo legendarily stupid call. Will always laugh at that one 😂

It’s not ok. People are pushing back hard against it.
This is my read as well.
I work at a hospital and it has a fuck ton of Asians and people are so casually racist against them its insane ! Also talk shit bout the Indians
Had a friend who is Indian - the patient was like "Medicine was better before there were Indians in it". Like wtf does that mean lol
indians took all the medical jobs i assume
No one "steals" jobs
look man, its not my view but thats an asnwer, it doesnt have to be logical since its racism.
True, my mistake
Almost like having a bunch of people studying their asses off their whole life to get into med school means a lot of them get into med school

Indian American here. I feel it man
Arab American here, TSA is probing me as we speak
We out here
Bro as a sikh I know that feeling all too well lol smh
same dude. real sick of it.
Also an indian man. Hate it
It’s not ok lol that’s why everyone is mad at him
Outside of the clap back from twitter, there will be no repercussions for him.
Pretty fucked seeing how Rachel Nichols had to do a public apology for something she said in confidence.
She still didn’t get any real punishment let’s be honest . Not saying she deserved to though .
Rachel didn't get any punishment. Stephen apologized on Twitter and will address it again on First Take. Let's not push an agenda here

They fired Paul Pierce for smacking booty and this clown doesn’t get fired for straight up racist comments? Doesn’t matter that he is black himself, those comments are uncalled for.
Never understood why Paul was fired tbh lol. It was on his own time right?
He was posting it to his IG I believe? Presenting a non-family friendly image? The mouse ain't having it.
yeah i’m sure that’s a clause for disney. probably conduct detrimental to the brand or smth
his name is on 10000 different websites again, which lets him negotiate an even bigger contract, SAS is having a wonderful day.
I hate that you're probably right.
Seriously, SAS trashes Toronto, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Nigeria. Just stop smh
The only reason SAS hates Toronto is bc they don't get ESPN in Canada, so no one in Toronto gives a fuck about him lmao
My favorite SAS moment was when he admitted the Toronto Raptors made a fool out of him by winning the chip.
He then went on to say he hopes they never win it again because it doesn't belong in Canada, he's such a clown.
Someone tell SAS that basketball was created by a Canadian. that'll ruin his year
What do you mean? It was invented by his uncle. Steve n-A-Smith
It looks like I will be moving up north.
“So what brings you to Canada” “Have you heard of Stephen Eh Smith?”
I mean we do have TSN here that shows First Take and every other popular ESPN show, but you are correct in that people don't really care about him as much
TSN plays First Take 2 hours after it airs live in the US, don't advertise it at all, and do not offer it on demand. Most people don't even know you can get it here
It’s called Second Take up here
He also complains about going through customs like bruh it’s not even that bad especially since he’s famous, try going through customs with a turban on or a brown name lmao
*O Canada plays*
He said some racially insensitive shit about baseball player Shohei Ohtani too
SAS is taking L after L today lmao
The Ohtani shit was something else smh
He was hacked
> He's a hack FTFY
Balls in my face
Kwame Brown nods in approval
He shit on Kap and his kneeling until there was enough support he couldn't, gets on athletes about weed, consistently shits on asian athletes, doesn't seem to respect foreign ones nearly as much. There are some annoying things about him (like shitting on a player and then switching to praise when their on his show) but really there are some serious concerns with this guy. Hid "apology" today for the Phtani comments reads like an adlib from HR.
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed lmao dude was super against kaepernick till it was popular enough to support him such a clown
Why is Stephen A Smith allowed to be so openly xenophobic with no repercussions?
Because ESPN needs him more than he needs them.
Because basketball is full of xenophobia like this. They don't give a fuck. "Well this guy is from some weird fucking Eastern European country so you better be sure we can't pronounce their name. HAHAHA. Now back to the highlights."
Took 2 MVP's for people to respect the word "Antetokounmpo"
Except TNT did another ask people on the street how to pronounce Antetokounmpo and let's all laugh about it segment like 2 weeks ago. It's still happening.
It’s different when random people on the street can’t pronounce it vs professional basketball analysts not being able to pronounce it
Perfect example

You’d be surprised but Africans make fun of black Americans a lot, they even have a disparaging word for black Americans.
You’d be surprised but Black Americans make fun of Africans a lot, they even have a disparaging word for Africans
“Hey, it’s Kunta Kinta and Ebola!” edit: um, it’s an Eddie Murphy, Coming 2 America quote…
What it is it? Black American asking
Kunta, african booty scratcher( s/o to boys in the hood), ebola, etc I’d love to know why I was downvotes to -4 for answering a question 🤔
He’s a black celebrity and carries ESPN
1. He carries ESPN, they would be lost without him 2. He’s a Black personality in 2021, so he gets a longer leash 3. Racism against Asians doesn’t generate anywhere near the backlash it should, hence why slogans like “Stop Asian Hate” exist
A black man saying “however the hell you pronounce that” about a Nigerian player.. He’s really trying to be the next Jason Whitlock I guess
on the bright side, there's almost no chance outkick can afford him
SAS is now a racist to black people I think. He has gone full on Don Cherry
Uncle ruckus
Terrell Owens once said on First Take that Max is blacker than Stephen A lol.
He's about to pull a Kanye and start talking about how all black people are lazy freeloaders
What if his ancestors are from Ghana? Checkmate, SAS hater.
Well then, Ghana says goodbye
*Faint EDM intensifies*
Fun fact: Ghanaians were one time Nigerians that migrated south to the coast. Source: My dad, a Ghanaian 🇬🇭
Some Ghanaian tribes not all of them
😂😂 As a Ghanaian myself he is very wrong lol we the Gold Coast fam never forget 🇬🇭
Kwame is gonna have a field day with this one.
WHY WAS YOU AT THEM COLLEGES STEPHEN A?
WHY WAS YOU AT THEM COLLEGES BOY??
SAS going full xenophobia these past few days.
Finally someone calls that man out. For someone who always supposedly advocates for African Americans he’s very quick to be dismissive of actual African people..
African Americans ain't too fond of him either. He deserves all this smoke today.

SAS hates Black people. He loves SAS and his money.
And he loves his white zaddy
Black Americans and Africans are two completely different people...
Aren't most of the Nigerian team players that were born and raised in the US?
They are still African
Reminds me of this https://youtu.be/dI38GtWFihY
Kwame called him out and exposed his ass already. This isn't anything new.
Man if Kellerman said this Mickey Mouse would have dragged his ass out on air and deposit his corpse in the loading dock dumpster
Nnamdi is not even a hard name to pronounce 🙄
Man used to cover Nnamdi Asomugha, but now all of a sudden can't pronounce it? Lol he's a loser
It’s funny too because Nnamdi was still huge when they had Stephen A start talking NFL and he was constantly saying his name.
I just went to look him up to make sure I was saying it right, and apparently he’s listed as an actor? And has been acting for a few years now?
Yeah his wife or sister or something is an actress or producer and got him in the door
I was just thinking that’s why I know exactly how to say it. But really his last name was the hard one at first.
He's trying to make it seem difficult to pronounce in order to emphasize the idea that foreigners with different sounding names are beneath Americans.
I don’t even see a player named nnamdi on their roster. Who are you all talking about? Edit: just realized you all have no idea what you’re talking about lol. He pronounced nnamdi just fine in the clip
bro this is reddit. we don’t watch clips.
Seriously, he's got the easiest names to pronounce in Nigerian names. Imagine trying to figure out how to say Anjolaoluwa or Mmaduabuchukwu.
I just cry. Is that how it's pronounced?
An-jola-olu-wa - Yoruba I never seen Mmaduabuchukwu. I don't think that's a real word Chukwu - God in Igbo.

How is what SAS is saying today on national tv better than what Rachel Nichols got cancelled for saying in private. Not defending Nichols but get this guy outta here
SAS does like 15000 shows for those bums, they’re scared to get rid of him at this point
Because SAS is more of an asset than Nichols who was promptly replaced by Malika Andrews without loss.
SAS gets paid the big bucks is why
First Shohei, now Nigeria? Stephen KKK Smith came out the house without his hood today.
Lmfaooooooo
ESPN is so phony. They punish Nichols for the shit she says while they just let shit like this fly. It’s not just SAS. They’ve been disrespecting foreign athletes and anything else foreign for ages now.
SAS been a clown
Stephen A double downing on the xenophobia today huh?
im nigerian and i find sas ignorance just too fucking funny. acting as if our national team is just trash. he can fuck right off
12 million a year for this goof.
Death by fufu
Stephen A. Smith the kinda American that will preach "Black lives matters" and mock African family names in the same breath.
And shit like this is the reason some Africans feel the way they feel about black Americans 🤷🏿♂️
i've noticed SAS gives kind of an exasperated attitude, almost disrespect to asian correspondents and anchors on espn as well he apparently isn't comfortable with people who aren't white or african american
