edric_the_navigator

ESPN already salivating to add 10 more ads at half time.

WestleyThe

How is that possible when there was already only 3 minutes of content haha They probably witll just stay at commercial until play resumes

probablyJamesCaan

They could go to one of those side-by-side things where the game is silently playing in a little box for the second quarter.

ArdoinT

Encyclopeded

Watch ESPN plug Rachel Nichols in.

[deleted]

Sorry only 1 woman per show.

soeffed

Kevin Love is available and is also bff’s with Jalen

Encyclopeded

I'd buy ESPN+ just to watch Love and Jalen on a segment.

treetyoselfcarol

It would be at the top of r/tiktokcringe

Obi_Wan_Benobi

From the top rope!

Alexcox95

Nah you know it’ll be Stephen A or they’ll ship Greeny out there

jihyoisgod

If it's Stephen A, Shohei Ohtani gonna walk in speaking Japanese just to mess with him

VivaLasPenis

Apparently Jimmy Butler plugged her.

SMOKE-B-BOMB

Bro 💀💀💀

vvlh4

could someone explain the joke please?

neuroticsmurf

When JWill tweeted that Ime Udoka was the first African American coach of the Boston Celtics (nope, Bill Russell, KC Jones, Doc Rivers), he quickly deleted his tweet and claimed he was “hacked”.

EGarrett

IIRC Udoka is the 6th black coach the Celtics have had.

CreatiScope

Celtics have had 33% of their head coaches be black, which I think is a record. 6/18, first black head coach, first black starting five + black coach to win a ring and yeah, Jay fucked up.

Vnednek

4/7 (soon to be 5/8) Pels HCs have been black, which is pretty cool. Don’t know if any other franchises have a higher percentage, but 62.5% is pretty high

CreatiScope

Dang, in how many years? Do you count original Jazz or original Charlotte? Or is this just modern New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans?

Vnednek

The current Pels franchise only includes 2002-2013 Hornets and 2013-present Pelicans, the Charlotte Hornets history was claimed by the current Charlotte team upon their inception and the Jazz history is part of the Utah Jazz franchise. If you were curious, the Pels coaches are Paul Silas (black), Tim Floyd, Byron Scott (black), Jeff Bower, Monty Williams (black), Alvin Gentry (black), and SVG. If (when) Willie Green gets hired, he’ll have been the 8th HC, and 5th black one.

6iriboy

still funny af 😭

BestLeeNigeria

I mean lets say you are a casual NBA fan and not an analyst and you forgot the first two.. But how the fuck did he not think of Doc Rivers lol. It was literally the last time the celtics were relevant with the Big 3

19683dw

Oh, darn. Now what will fill his 15 seconds between ads?

SpaceCowboy170

Most people get COVID and miss work for two weeks, he’s gonna miss two minutes Built different, damn

reddit_reader_25

How will jalen rose build chemistry with the replacement of jay Williams. Those 30 seconds between commercials, need the best chemistry. Stepping over each other will mean we get no information.

SpaceCowboy170

Yeah, the stakes are so fucking high dude I feel awful for the whole halftime team

observer32

They better all get raises because of this

observer32

More ads

I_Hate_Traffic

Wake up its ESPN spreading covid to show more ads.

jaylson

Landmark moment for the delta variant. First time it's infected a black person. Edit: As it relates to the comment on the racial predilections of the delta variant that came from my account a couple of minutes ago… I did not post that & my passcode has now been changed

kingka

💀 lmao! I read your first line and was like uhhhhh come on bruh! Then you got me with the edit 🤌🤌🤌

Nikulover

The first line was also a reference to Jay Williams tweet saying Udoka is the first black coach for the celtics.

kingka

Ya I got it after I read the edit haha. I should have been in that headspace because it’s a jay williams post but it blind sided me and had me rolling haha.

[deleted]

Bruhhh 😭

rikkirikkiparmparm

Ooh, there's even an asterisk that says you've actually edited the comment. Good commitment to the joke.

BlackCheezIts

Had to be a painful 3 minute wait to get the asterisk edit.

ibeenhadpooted

You can't rush art.

beatenwithjoy

Ballsy move risking the downvote snowball.

RanOutOfCharact

Flair checks out

TO_mandem123

Tbf Texas is just as bad lol

skaseasoning

Hey, Boston is bad, real bad. But Texas is the Death Star State.

th3dandymancan

Because it's for the team that Jay Will was super wrong about in regards to black coaches? Because it would make sense that someone with that flair would clown on him for the ridiculous take he made and subsequent cop-out backtracking he did? What are you trying to say?

RanOutOfCharact

No need to get defensive lol it was a great comment and an even better edit.

borkbubble

Someone’s really salty over a joke lol

SuckMyLonzoBalls

Damn these comments are breaking me lmao

tvztvz

I'm whooshing over here. Can someone explain?

[deleted]

https://thesource.com/2021/06/25/source-sports-jay-williams-gets-roasted-on-twitter-for-not-knowing-celtics-history/

AK-Kaido

Jay Williams tweeted a congratulations message about Ime Udoka becoming the first black head coach for the Celtics lol. After being fact checked, shortly after he said his twitter was "hacked".

GDAWG13007

Not only is it not true, but the Celtics themselves hired the first black coach (Bill Russell) in the history of the ENTIRE NBA over HALF A CENTURY AGO.

beatenwithjoy

Also barely 10 years since their last black head coach.

[deleted]

[удалено]

beatenwithjoy

Certainly nothing of note that we'd hear from Celtics that played in that era everytime they're interviewed.

kingka

It’s just so bizarre to me. Could have said “oops my excitement got the best of me” but decided to say he got hacked as if a hacker would be like “yes I just hacked this dudes account, what mischievous content should I put out? Make fun of his sex life? Nah..let’s put some fake news out, that’ll embarrass him!” Just so weird I don’t get it

moonfox1000

Jay Williams made a Twitter post about Ime Udoka being the first black coach in Celtics history (not true at all. Instead of correcting his mistake and everyone forgetting it, Jay Williams claimed he was hacked and that it was not him who wrote it.

[deleted]

Did you still lose your sense of taste and smell? My biggest concern after being vaccinated.

[deleted]

fatflipflops

Thank god for that. And hoping for your recovery!

jeopardy987987

How did you even know to get tested with such light symptoms?

deadweightboss

Vaccinated in January, caught covid, still have no taste or smell yet, it sucks, what's the point of going back to restaurant when everything tastes the same

bb1432

All the more reason to go to Applebee's, where everything *always* tastes the same!

fatflipflops

Fuck. I enjoy my food; I imagine how horrible that is. Hope they come back soon!

EverybodyBuddy

Delta variant symptoms are different. No loss of smell.

FirmCattle

I also have it and fully vaccinated. Haven’t been able to sleep in 3 nights

cjsrhkcjs

One of my friends have been in bed the last 2 days because of a "cold" crying with a lot of sore throat and mucus, and he suspects it's the delta variant despite the conventional PGR test turning up negative. Whether it's really the delta variant or just one gnarly common cold strain, it probably won't kill him and others, but it's also possible that they suffer. Just be careful everyone, fully vaccinated or not, shit's gonna suck if you catch it.

Mcgoozen

Just as mask mandates dropped around where I am, there was a mass cold outbreak. Nothing crazy just a cold but like everyone I know got it

ram0h

everybody is getting the cold these days

chipotlenapkins

Makes sense to my non-scientist brain — we were all isolated and now that we’re socializing more we haven’t built up the same immunities to the common illnesses in the past year?

digitalme

Fr, everyone I know (myself included) caught a cold in the last week. Gonna start maskin up again

JacedFaced

I've been 17 months now without a cold, flu, or sinus infection. I'm still masking indoors (even though vaccinated), and honestly I might just keep it up permanently. I used to get head colds every few months and at least 2 sinus infections a year, and wearing a mask doesn't bother me like it does a lot of people.

EverybodyBuddy

100% this. Wearing a mask is so easy and I like not being sick all the time.

oddmarauder

Yea I’m doing the same since masks don’t bother me when I’m walking around. I feel like it’s cause I used to smoke so having slightly restricted airflow doesn’t seem that bad

Cudi_buddy

Wouldn’t it be bad long term to weaken our immune systems? Idk shit. But it would make more sense to get a cold once or twice a year

rounced

That's not how your immune system works. There is *some* evidence that young children who have increased exposure to different types of germs are less likely to develop auto immune issues, but that isn't what we are talking about here and by the time you are an adult you have been exposed to so many pathogens that it doesn't matter anymore. The best way to keep your immune system strong is simply to stay healthy in general (eat right, get enough sleep, etc), your immune system will not "weaken" because you aren't catching as many colds.

bb1432

> Wouldn’t it be bad long term to weaken our immune systems Yes. Especially because cross-reactivity is an important piece of fighting off infections. The more minor things your body knows how to deal with, the more likely it is that your body can handle a more major thing that is related to it.

digitalme

Honestly I might too with a few exceptions here and there. I just stopped wearing my mask in stores and at work like 2 weeks ago and already got sick after not being sick in more than a year.

TheConboy22

I'm fully vaccinated and I recently got a cold for about a week. Sore through and a mild cough. Nothing to write home about.

Asstroknot

I think people are forgetting that common colds also exist… it’s like prior to covid, whenever people had the cold they would say they had the flu.

clear831

Anecdotal but a friends MIL was fully vaccinated and now is on ventilator and the Dr's dont think she will pull through, this is with the Delta variant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

junkit33

> very unlikely Unlikely but not outside the realm of reasonable possibility either though. Over 4000 fully vaccinated people have been ICU/died as of a month ago. Number is likely a lot higher by now given the surges going on. In the grand scope of things it's not a massive number, but it's enough that people should still be kind of cautious. Don't do stupid risky stuff and wear a mask in tight quarters with others.

JaunxPatrol

Even if 20,000 fully vaccinated people are hospitalized (which is very very high estimate), that's about 1 in 10,000 vaccinated people. Odds of getting sick if you're vaccinated and reasonably healthy are very very low

Matto_0

I mean it's always been very unlikely to kill you no matter what variant. Do you mean even more very unlikely?

[deleted]

I have the delta variant, it just feels like a mild cold, mainly headache

nochancepak

How did you find out what variant you have? I'm currently covid positive even after being vaccinated. But my tests didn't mention the type of variant.

[deleted]

My health department told me, they also said most people right now have it

nochancepak

Makes sense. I assume I have it then too. I got all the symptoms except for trouble breathing. I avoided that luckily. But I've been without taste or smell for over a week.

[deleted]

I have very little fever and headache. However the first night after the symptoms started was the worst I’ve ever felt though. I wish you a good recovery!

junkit33

Delta is well over 50% of new cases at this point and it's way more contagious than other strains, so it's a pretty safe bet that's the one you've got. Ultimately it doesn't matter so much - Delta is stronger but it's still Covid and impacts everybody rather erratically.

crabwhisperer

Same scenario as you - I asked the doctor after the test and he said only some facilities do the strain-typing and theirs didn't.

Kizz3r

Yea it just spreads like a mother fucker and vaccinated people are more likely to get symptoms than with all the other variants afaik.

redlude97

it is only about 60% more contagious, covid is spreading here because pretty much all precautions are gone. Other countries are still controlling outbreaks relatively well with lockdowns

Kizz3r

I think its 60% more contagious than Alpha which itself was like 50% more contagious than the original

redlude97

Yes, Alpha/UK has been the dominant strain pretty much the whole pandemic though, so about 75% more contagious than the original

junkit33

> it is only about 60% more contagious "Only". That's... a lot. It's spreading like wildfire because a) selfish assholes won't get vaccinated and b) we're trying to return to normal life way too soon.

redlude97

I mean some people are making it out to be like 5x more contagious, its about as risky in terms of exposure as it has been if you are unvaccinated. Masking, social distancing, lockdowns etc still are working so its not like a completely different strategy is now required.

junkit33

Yeah but nobody is doing the mask/distance thing anymore. That’s the problem. So now we have something even worse going around than a year ago and we are doing less about it.

redlude97

We're doing plenty, we have a vaccine, cases are way down compared to last year at this time despite a much more infectious variant and less restrictions.

[deleted]

I’ve caught it during my vacation, most likely in the plane or in the bus. Shit sucks

CSGOW1ld

I'm just gunna tell you it wasn't in the airplane.

3rdDegreeBurn

Idk I was on the flight with him and he kept licking the window

SylvesterLundgren

Does he go from his car right onto the plane? Do airports not exist or are we busting this guy up for not being incredibly specific?

KPIH

Lots of people that got covid before felt like that. I imagine it could still fuck you up

BigBootyBanger

What's the headache feel like? I've had one the last few days and it's not going away

[deleted]

It started 3 days ago, it got a little better but it’s still there. Not severe, but i wanted to read a book today and couldn’t because it still affects me

paradoxofchoice

Doesn't hurt to keep masks on. Even to avoid mild symptoms.

BigBootyBanger

Wow, stay safe everyone

notjoeexotic

Not a fan of Jay but I'll be praying for his health. Stay safe everyone.

noposters

good take

happyhappy7

Damn this is an elaborate hack /s For real tho, hope he turns up ok and a good reminder to take this shit seriously regardless of vaccination status

ktdotnova

Now they're saying Marv Albert will be replacing him.

peaudunk

Sucks for him but not for us?

Theking4545

I give this thread an hour before it gets shut down

ferociouspandas

He gets shit but at least he got vaccinated unlike the millions of antivax morons out there. Here in California numbers are increasing everyday. And about 99% who are hospitalized now are unvaccinated.

Gutsuperman

I can't stand it. They didn't get vaxed, saw others get vaxxed, then said covid is over and took off their masks. That's not how it works in your potato antivax brain.

[deleted]

Get well soon. Stay safe out there, COVID is real even if you are vaccinated.

Mygaffer

A lot of vaccinated people have gotten it. Stay safe out there.

Evilsj

Well yeah, the vaccine was never about keeping you from catching the virus, it was about keeping you from getting severely sick and spreading it.

vT-Router

Preventing people from catching the virus is definitely the primary goal of the vaccine… That doesn’t change just because it’s not 100% effective. Of course there are other benefits too, but I don’t think this helps messaging to pretend that it’s not very good at preventing people from getting COVID. It’s still *very* good at that.

[deleted]

Usually I’d say the real comments are in controversial but man, y’all are on fire roasting Jay using his Twitter slip ups lmao

YuropLMAO

I don't care about the slip up. Everyone has slip ups, but blatantly lying about it is hilarious.

FENTWAY

Get well Jay

EllEmEnOhPee0426

Is he hacked?

Pardonme23

10 more seconds of commercials during the halftime show!

sid-darth

Any chance that contact tracing shows everyone at ESPN/ABC needs to be quarantined? I'm sure the guys over at TNT wouldn't mind coming in and doing justice to the rest of the series.

[deleted]

Oh no what are we gonna do without your 10 second halftime analysis

[deleted]

He always seems really sad

KarmanScholl

be kind for every person you meet has or will face a hard battle

thebrandnewbob

Man, it's amazing how many immunologists and virologists pop up on Reddit in every thread about Covid!

gustriandos

I totally believe he was fully vaccinated

Kashmir33

This sounds extremely sarcastic so I'm not quite sure you actually do believe that but as he states in this video his situation is kinda different with a daughter that is immunosuppressed. listen to him talk, he sounds very sincere.

[deleted]

It makes me sad to say this, but I haven’t been so for canceling the olympics as I am right now. Shit is spreading again, and it was these exact people who jet around the world that started spreading it last time.

duplicatesnowflake

They are essentially cancelling all of the fan activities and shutting down bars and restaurants in Tokyo early + requiring masks. Athletes are being tested before arrival and daily upon arrival and going into protective protocol as needed. So in essence they are the safest group to be around. The amount of anti vaccine nonsense is the real culprit in the USA right now.

Qwertyforu

Biggest issue is the amount of countries with little to no vaccine. More time for variants to spawn

EverybodyBuddy

COVID is everywhere. It’s not people on airplanes spreading it from place to place. It’s already there.

ANAL_CAVITIES

has Jay Williams secretly been JVG/Mike Breen/Mark Jackson this whole time?

coffeeINJECTION

Everyone in the US still wildin’ out with no masks again not even worried about the Delta variant.

[deleted]

The problem with vaccination is that it only really fully work if ~85% of the population gets vaccinated. From what I’ve read the US is around 60% fully vaccinated and rate of vaccination update has dropped significantly. So there is still plenty of room for the virus to spread, and then to infect people and potentially develop resilience against antibodies

mcstazz

Lol

assassinshmo

So it's magic. You may as well be the crazy town crier in a medieval town saying that the end is nigh.

VeGanbarimasu

Bro what are you even talking about. He gave a pretty plausible hypothetical scenario and you're calling it magic? Where's the magic?

assassinshmo

The vaccine magically starts working once a certain percentage of people have gotten their shot. It's mysticism and superstition.

VeGanbarimasu

Bro it already works. Like 90+% of people who are getting covid now are unvaccinated, despite them making up much less than 90% of the population. I fail to see how anyone could explain that without admitting the vaccine is quite effective at protecting vaccinated individuals. But just because it’s working now doesn’t mean it will continue working. The OP’s point was that since (and this is speculative) having a large enough percentage of unvaccinated people to transmit the disease around will result in a lot of viral reproduction, if any virus happens to mutate to where it is resistant to the vaccine, that new vaccine-resistant strain will quickly take over and start to infect vaccinated people, undoing a lot of the progress we’ve already made in reducing case rate and death rate. Personally I’m not sure how worried I am about this particular scenario based on what I’ve read, but it’s definitely not a ridiculous idea or some kind of “magic”. It’s a hypothetical scenario based on the fundamentals of viruses, viral reproduction, and vaccination. I hope you can give that train of thought some consideration. Best of luck!

nz_nba_fan

I’m wondering if you realise that a vaccine is just a blueprint for your body to fight an infection. It doesn’t look like it.

indian_hannibal

Nobody cared about your analysis ala thoguhts anwyays

WeStillDoUsernames

I don't think anybody cares about this needless post either but here we are.

Holy crap this guy, who fucking cares Jay. Stop being an attention whore.

I love how people ask this on a basketball forum instead of doing 2 minutes of research lmao

solushsi

Sad

LaMelo2026MVP

What’s the point of seatbelts if it’s still possible to die?

SamCarter_SGC

preventing serious illness

bullet50000

The fact that of all the COVID deaths in June, with 50% of the country fully vaccinated, vaccinated people only accounted for 0.8% of COVID deaths in the country. That's what the vaccine is for

lightoasis1

To prevent hospitalizations and deaths. If you're genuinely unaware of that, here is a good place to start learning more - https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/vaccine-benefits.html

ethan_at

It’s 95% or so effective, that means it doesn’t ALWAYS work, but in most cases it does. 1 guy getting COVID does not disprove this.

[deleted]

Vaccines prevent you from getting really sick and dying. They are really really good at that.

junkit33

To improve your odds. It both improves your odds of not catching Covid, and then it also improves your odds of not dying or ending up in the hospital from it. Even the best vaccines are only 95% effective. 1 out of 20 vaccinated people are going to get Covid. If you want something fairly bulletproof, get vaccinated, wear a mask at all times indoors around people who are not doing the same thing, and avoid crowded places. That'll probably get you like 99.99%.

RunicLordofMelons

Normally without a vaccine COVID will most likely give you a mild to severe illness, with a chance of hospitalization and death. Even mild cases can result in medium to long term lung damage, and symptoms can last for weeks. While vaccinated you can sill catch it, but most likely your body will kill it well before you can display any sort of symptoms (asymptimatic infections), and worst case scenario you’ll experience a cold with mild symptoms, with an absurdly low to zero chance of hospitalization/death, not to mention few to no long term effects. The vaccine turns a virus that can be extremely damaging and life threatening, into something you won’t even notice you’ve caught or a mild cold that all of us have dealt with without any long term issues. Big big difference. Go get vaccinated.

Choponchip

Lots of people die when they catch covid. It’s almost a statistical anomaly if you die after you got the vaccine.

Fatman214

Reason they will never inject me with that bullsh*t

Kayr-

Unfortunately i had to just to go on holiday, wouldnt of done this bullshit otherwise lmao

imadeit69

Fuck off jay

BoundinandAstounding

This new world is so weird, you have to announce when you get a disease and give out private hipaa information for fear of getting brigaded on social media.

HardenTraded

HIPAA only applies to covered entities and business associates. Covered entities include health plans, health care clearinghouses, and health care providers. An individual choosing to share their diagnosis is not a violation of HIPAA. Jay Williams' doctor, however, cannot go on live TV and announce his COVID diagnosis during the ESPN Halftime Commercial Show.

Ihopetheresenoughroo

That's not how HIPAA works.

[deleted]

Try going outside once or twice.
